Apologies for the late weekend mixtape but i’ve been a busy boy. As many of you will know, this Wednesday past happened to be the 9/9/09. I was going to make a special mixtape up on the Wednesday to commemorate this once in a lifetime date. Well, my lifetime anyway, unless i somehow live till September 2109. Anyways, i couldn’t get round to making the mix up on the Wednesday due to more important matters, ie. getting drunk and watching the Scotland vs Holland game round the local watering hole. So i thought to myself “i’ll make it on the Thursday”….but i was too hungover. Friday? Went and seen a friends band playing in Stereo (i’ll post some stuff soon). Saturday? Couldn’t. It’s a long story.
But!……… But! Today i finally got the time to make it. The theme of the mix takes on a 999/Accident & Emergency vibe, so bands and songs that were included had to have that kinda slant to their name. Things along the lines of Police, Ambulance, Criminals, Fire, Accidents etc. Hope you enjoy!

Just for Kicks-Newsletter beim ersten (Rein)Hören überzeugt.

The Vital Might ©10trecords

Immerhin löblich, dass Andy Milk »Take me, don’t take her« singt.

Links farbig: Red Planet :: Rechts invertiert: diagramma

Alt + Strg + i?

Album: Effloresce

Otras canciones del album, bastante diferentes entre ellas son: You Wish, Woman Who Love Men Who Love Drugs y Long Forgotten.

Tracklist

Is there a single band that defines the term ‘fucking terrifying’ better than Kong? No.

Is there a single band that defines the term ‘fucking terrifying’ better than Kong? No. Visit their myspace, look at their videos (particularly the live ones) and slowly you will be sucked into their warped, angry world. Donned in red shellsuits and semi-transparent masks (with make-up), their ‘making-of’ videos mostly consist of the singer wandering round the house making the kind of noises you hear on buses post-sunset. They’re intimidating, wholly unnatural, and we haven’t even got to the music yet.

Snake Magnet, essentially, is a fifty-minute horror show. There’s no other way to put it; it really is fucking terrifying. The album should come with one of those health warnings you get on rollercoasters – “Not for pregnant women or people with heart conditions”. Opener Leather Penny pulls no punches from the off, erupting in grumbling bass and dirty, grimy garage-rock guitar noise that’d make Jack White all kinds of green with envy. Following on is the bafflingly insane Whet Your Knives, diving frantically between Sabbathian riffing and indistinguishable screaming. This assault just doesn’t let up, only dropping the riffs to replace them with droning synths on Good Graphics – a result that is probably what you’d hear if you played your Super Nintendo on dodgy ’shrooms.

The madness has long buried it’s way into your skull by the time we reach album closer K(l)ong (for me, it was at the Dalek-style screams at the end of Nih that really sealed it). Suddently, it all goes very quiet, shuffling drums over barely-audible bass. It’s almost like the end of a horror chase; seeing the way out of the madness that’s preceded. Right before the end though, they have one last surprise; a truly sudden jolt of the beefiest, noisiest riffing on the whole album, to truly finish you off once and for all.

So it can probably break you mentally, and could probably cause an impacted (or at least heavily loosened) bowel.
Of course, none of these health issues will detract from the fact that Snake Magnet is AMAZING. The neighbours will think you’ve lost it, your family will probably try and get you sectioned, and you sure as hell won’t get anyone sitting next to you on buses. But then, who cares when insanity sounds so good? Turn it up and let the madness in.

Well it wouldn’t be a new UK festival unless one of the main bands pulls out would it?

In a somewhat ironic turn of events, it would appear as though Limp Bizkit’s addition to the Sonisphere bill has caused Machine Head to drop out of the festival altogether.

In a statement on their website, Machine Head have announced that due to Limp Bizkit being given “their” third slot on the bill, they will no longer be playing the festival at all. They claim that they turned down Download 2009, where they would have been higher up the bill than the Bizkit, to commit to Sonisphere but now they can’t play third they are quitting.

Oh come on guys, you were already playing a festival headlined by Linkin Park, what’s the big difference? Their statement says that they “we felt a closer kinship to the bands performing this year.” I will give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that they are only talking about the bands on their day, because as they have left it they are suggesting that they feel a closer kinship to Linkin Park than Slipknot… (Maybe it’s the dodgy rapping?)

Sonisphere responded by stating that they had offered Machine Head more money and a higher slot on the second stage but that they were turned down. Oh, and that Machine Head are still happy enough to play at three other Sonisphere festivals in other countries.

So only the UK fans who already bought their tickets to see Machine Head will be let down. Brilliant.

The irony of it being blamed on Limp Bizkit’s appearance is of course because the last time Limp Bizkit were around the UK festival scene prior to 2009, they cancelled their headline appearance at the first ever Download back in 2003. It didn’t exactly damage Download’s reputation, time will tell about Sonisphere’s.

In other news, Thunder and Oceansize have been added to the bill. It will be Thunder’s last ever gig.

Album: Snake Magnet
Label: Brew Records

The masked troubadours of Kong, who may or may not be connected in some way to Oceansize, have finally released their debut album. Let’s get one thing clear before we delve into Snake Magnet. Kong are demented. Not bad demented, the kind where you go on a murder spree to prove to that one special person how much you love them, but the good kind. Think of them as the musical equivalent of The League Of Gentlemen, just with less cross-dressing, a sizeable chunk of vociferous vocals and a diabolical amount of tortured guitars.

Information on the band is notoriously sketchy, with most of it that is out there revealed with tongue firmly in cheek. But despite their mysterious roots and frankly terrifying masks, the band has put together an album that immediately sums them up. ‘Snake Magnet’ is full of oddball moments that cause you to question the sanity of everyone involved, including yourself, and yet somehow it still does a grand job of remaining damn likeable.

With a singer who, at points, jabbers away like Father Jack Hackett (‘Wet Your Knives’) and a rhythm section that is so in tune with each other it could possibly be the work of the holy one himself, there’s almost nowhere to go to in order to find a slight bit of sanity. Even the lyrics defy explanation; that is when they’re coherent enough to be understood.

It’s like listening to your brain slowly unravel itself in front of you. ‘Leather Penny’ stretches the rough and ready sound production to its limit, sounding as if the whole track is being recorded on a five pound microphone from Argus by its conclusion, but instead of detracting from matters it just seems to make sense. The intro to ‘Wet Your Knives’ meanders and sounds generally lost until it’s stabbed all over the place with the precise jabs of snares and cymbals.

It’s the way the band manage to consistently keep you on your toes for the duration of the album that leaves the biggest mark. Even repeated listens don’t help too much, as songs go from one tangent to another without any thought for the poor listener being tossed every which way. Case in point: ‘Good Graphics’, an instrumental ode to what I can only assume is the blissful tunings of 8-bit gaming, which seems at odds thrown in the middle of the rest of this album.

For some ‘Snake Magnet’ is just going to be too much. It dances around that fine line between insanity and genius, as if the Joker formed the band for his own entertainment. But, despite being near fully-blown insane, at its heart it has nothing but a genuinely true rock and roll spirit. But for an album that sounds as if it’s been made to torture the average rock music fan, everything comes out rather peachy. The riffs are there, catchy and dominating, and the vocal turns are actually interesting to listen to, rather than suffer. Take the stunning conclusion to ‘Sport’, one of the best vocal endings to a song I’ve heard since Truckers Of Husk and their track ‘Panther Party’ (a must hear).

With their debut Kong have revealed themselves to be ringleaders of a rather bizarre circus. As challenging as it is to listen to at times (this certainly isn’t hangover music) ‘Snake Magnet’ is one of the most interesting and unique things to come out of British music for a long time. And after all, isn’t innovation what us Brits tend to do best?

I haven’t made many mixes for friends as of late. Actually, it’s been seemingly quite a while actually since I did, so I figured recently now was as good a time as any to roll one together. It is always a challenge making them for other people because you have to compensate for their taste in music while trying to express your own and carry whatever them you are trying to convey through building exciting highs and breathable moments of reflection in it. I always tried to work in a little extra of a (hidden) theme to them as well, though, I’m not sure how this one actually came out, but it was really fun to try and make one of these yet again … and, for anyone else who happens to check it out, enjoy!

So I haven’t written in awhile, just catching up I guess. I’m on the quest for new music

So I haven’t written in awhile, just catching up I guess. I’m on the quest for new music and I discovered a couple new bands today that I feel the need to share.

The first is “Reel Big Fish”, omg it’s so fun and up beat i just feel like dancing everytime i hear it! acctually my favorite thing to do in the morning at school is sit outside the band room and listen to them play. And the music from Reel Big Fish is very similar to my school band, so there you go…

The second band is the “Russian Futurists”, I love the music video for Paul Simon. So many people just dancing in the streets. Woot for random dancing. i also like how the vocals aren’t on top of the instuments, it’s lon the same level. It almost becomes another instrument, it’s really cool.

One that i downloaded today but haven’t listened to really indepth yet is “Minus the Bear”. The music here seems to be really mellow, but at the same time not mellow at all. I know that makes NO sence, but like i said no in depth listening!!!! more on them later.

One more that I have only listened to one song as of yet is Oceansize. i’ll talk more on them later. But let me know if you have any suggestons on related bands or songs!!!

so new developments as far as personal apperance are concerned.
1) i’m working towards a new “do” if you will this one here i’m thinking –> Pic 1 Pic 2 Whada ya guys think? let me know.
2)I’m SOOO not happy with my physical appearance, so, I’m going to spend from now until September getting svelte, sexy and hot! 1 thing that i hear is great for core muscle strength is yoga… so I’m gonna give that a try. I’m aiming for some non-conventional “get-fit” options and stradegies. so also if you got anything LET ME KNOW!!!

that’s all i have to say today… hopefully i will blog again tommorow… yeah

Peaced As Bru!!!!
