Defense Secretary Robert Gates stated that the administration cannot afford to, ’sit on our hands’ on the decision over whether to send more troops to Afghanistan. However the White House and John Kerry believe that troop levels should be based on political stability. John Kerry (D, MA), chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, bluntly said it would be “irresponsible” to commit more troops before the election is resolved. To some of the Democrats credit, many state that a stable Afghan government is critical but should not be the basis of military strategy. Republicans universally agree that more troops are needed, consistent with General McChrystal’s analysis.

This is another instance of Obama being either a wimp or an inconclusive, or worse yet, not caring about what his commanders say on the field. This goes to the instance of Obama attacking Fox while undecided about Afghanistan. Governing is tougher than it looks isn’t it Carter 2.0? When he was out campaigning, Obama attacked Iraq and those who got us into Iraq. He promised to fight the good fight and win the ‘right war’ in Afghanistan. He said he would send additional troops and listen to his commanders on the ground. Remember that Obama?

Political posturing is all this man knows. He doesn’t know how to govern other than through his force of personality which apparently the press and liberals can’t see through. Why do you think he’s always on campaign trails even after he’s been elected. His speeches still play to people’s emotions rather than the facts and he looks like he’s campaigning for re-election rather than trying to get something done. From his days with Acorn all the way up to voting present as senator more than anybody else, Obama knows nothing about decisions.

So while Afghanistan burns, our commander in chief twiddles his thumbs.

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. To show support for victims, survivors, their families, and the search for a cure we will have a non-uniform day Tuesday, October 20^th.

On October 20th, Themselves (Jel and Doseone) will release their third full-length, CrownsDown. Below, you can hear the sixth track from the album, titled “You Ain’t It.” Following the release of the album, the duo will spend the latter half of November and the early days of December out on tour with Eyedea & Abilities, the dates of which can be seen after the jump. I’ve been waiting awhile to see Themselves, and their tour will be stopping by The Middle East Downstairs in Cambridge on November 28th. Seeing Eyedea & Abilities (one of my favorites) with them will make the night all the better.

Hey all you wonderful Vinylites! Today marks the beginning of our glorious and much needed fall break. There won’t be a post every day form now until Sunday but expect some updates over the weekend to satisfy your musical cravings. From what I’ve heard around campus there is going to be a free, yes it costs nothing, James Taylor concert on Monday the 20th here at UNC on Fetzer Field. The pickup point for required free tickets is at Morehead Planetarium, where you can also vote early (hint, hint). So since Sweet Baby James is going to Carolina in perosn and not just in his mind, do the right thing like Spike Lee, and vote…or die!

October 20th has been secured by Nintendo as the official US release date for Wii Music. Sadly there’s no word as of yet regarding a European release date.

Hello Everyone!

Last night, Rochester Recreational Club for the Deaf graciously hosted Rochester’s first Tent City Rally, hosted by Pam Conley. We had 9 keynote speakers, ranging from concerned parents of current (and future!) Gallaudet students, RIT/NTID Faculty, Gallaudet Alumnus, and concerned people of Rochester.

We also have the opporunity to video the speakers and their reasonings, and will post on this website shortly as soon as I can manage to transfer the videos from an 8mm video casette to a computer format. Give me at least until Wednesday, hopefully. Pictures were taken, also, and is now in the process of resizing so we can give you an variety of pictures for you to enjoy.

I would like to take the time to thank Barb DiGiovanni for her essays, titled “Two Strikes in selecting the wrong President by the Board” and “Say NO to SCARE” which I have already posted in the new Written Works Section shortly. I also thank Pam Conley for her PowerPoint presentation on the reasoning behind the Gallaudet Protest which was posted online with some modification (adding the video we watched during her protest to the presentation) in the Written Works section. I will also add some links to videos and websites that was brought up during the discussion and the question & answer session (namely, Mosdeux, “Gotcha Jane” Vlog, and where to buy Joe Kolash’s shirt) in an page dedicated to the Q&A section.

I also added A LOT of links to various websites– they are all attached on your right side. If you want an specific Rochesterian perspective on the Gallaudet Protest, I highly recommend Diane Plassey Gutierrez and her excellent blog. If you are more interested in the current status of the protest, I refer you to Elisa Abenchuchan, Mishka Zena, and Ridor’s blog (Ridor is well-known for his controversial perspective on the protest).

I have already contacted all of you for your participation in the Tent City rally that will take place at RRCD tomorrow night.

The purpose of this rally is trifold: to support the FSSA with relevant talking points, to have a Q & A session to educate ourselves, and to collect money to donate to the FSSA. I got an email from Greg Livadas who has expressed an interest in attending, but will be out of town. Right now I’m trying to contact the WHAM-13 news hotline to secure an assignment reporter.

The tentative order of presenters will be as follows:

Please wear anything red at this event to show the general public that we’re “bleeding for Gallaudet.”
