folgt noch ein Nachbericht, sobald ich den Film gesehen habe
Jedenfalls ist der Trailer gut und einigen Cine-Kritiken nach auch lohnenswert. Für mich war ohnehin klar dass ich den neuen Eddie Murphy sehen muss.

update nach dem Film -
Erster Eindruck so kurz nach dem Film, sehr unterhaltsam, sehr gut geeignet für ein Familienabend oder Filmabend mit Freunden.
Ein paar sehr gut gelungene Slapsticks und Lachsequenzen.
Ein Eddie Murphy der sich mal vor seinem Boss und Kunden zum Affen oder Abends in der Fußgängerzone zum Clown macht.
Die teils Baby-, teils Kiddiesprache bei den Prognosen oder An/Verkaufsempfehlungen sind ein sehr schöner begleiteffekt und sorgen immer wieder für Lacher.

Die Story wird dabei nicht ins kitschige gezogen, dafür Sorgen kurze Einlagen mit Ernsten Phasen ob mit der Ex-Frau, dem Rivalenkampf mit dem falschen Indianer oder die Einsicht, dass Vater (oder ein Elternteil) sein mehr Wert hat, als nur die Karriere-Geilheit.

Meine Drei Lieblingstellen sind sicherlich,  die Phase im Büro, als er erfährt das sein Zuarbeiter und gefördertete Mitarbeiter die Seiten wechselt und Eddie Murphy die Unterlagen nicht findet zum 11h Termin was aber vorverlegt wurde und seine bezaubernde Tochter diese Unterlagen, auf geheiss der imagineeren 3-4 Freundinnen verziehrt mit Buntstiften, Glitzerzeug … dekoriert hatte und seine Stimmung schon am überkochen war.

Jetzt fehlte nur noch die Pointe dieser Szene und die folgte zugleich als er sich dem langjährigen Kunden und dem Rivalen im Konferenz-Zimmer anschliesst und erleben muss wie aus seiner Sicht alle den Verstand verlieren und er scheinbar von allen verkauft und verraten wurde .. da tickt er dann vollendst aus, ohnehin schwer geladen durch die Total unbrauchbaren Unterlagen setzt er über zum Angriff und ist voll im Element …

die Zweite Szene spielt sich im Kinderhort bzw in einem Spielzeugland für Kinder ab. Als er kurz zuvor erfährt, dass sein Boss in Rente gehen will und der oberste Boss (gespielt von Martin Sheen) einen der beiden Topleute zum Nachfolger ernennen will. Durch die ominöse Zauberdecke der Tochter mit allerbesten nicht zurückverfolgbaren Insiderinformationen mittlerweile auf dem gesamtem Investment- und Finanzsegment in aller Munde, erkännt er nun sein Dilema, in 17 Stunden müssen beide Rivalen eine Dossier voller Aufgaben abarbeiten um sich des Postens würdig zu erweisen. Ein Wettkampf gegen die Zeit und reifem Menschenverstand ..
Im besagten Hort trifft er erst auf seinen Freund, der Ihn mit aller Macht daran hindern will die Decke an sich zu reissen, da niemand vom Geheimniss von Eddie Murphy und seiner Tochter eingeweiht sind, sein Rivale der Ihn beschatten lässt eine Ahnung hat aber keinen stichhaltigen Beweis, ……
und dann kurz darauf die im Trailer teils zu sehende Stelle als er dem Jungen Bargeld und die Kaffeekarte anbietet … einfach geil.

Die Dritte Phase, ist dann im Anschluss am gescheiterten Versuch spätabends im Haus seines Freundes, wo sich die Kinder nach der Geburtstagsfeier wiederfinden und übernachten. Der Weg vom Garten bis zum Trampolin wo er sich dann über den Ast ins Haus schleichen will ist einfach genial gemacht mit vielen Lacheinheiten, fast schon der Stil wie bei “Kevin allein zu Hause” …

Für mich wars ein toller Filmabend und gut gelacht ist besser als schlecht gelaunt

If you’re over 21, you can now play slot machines based on two of your favorite shows, “American Idol” and “Sex and the City.”

Both slots were new releases at the 2009 Global Gaming Expo in Las Vegas. In “American Idol,” slot players can trigger a bonus round that lets them become one of three judges — Simon Cowell, Kara DioGuardi or Randy Jackson — and then plays video clips of past contestants, good AND bad.

According to Sphere.com, Paula Abdul was the lone holdout participant even BEFORE she announced she was leaving the show. Innnteresting.

Meanwhile, the “Sex and the City” slot machines are subtitled “Change of a Dress.” Clever, no? They feature bonus rounds that include video clips of all four women plus Mr. Big.

International Game Technology spokeswoman Julie Brown told Sphere, “There’s shoes and purses and lots of bling and big bonuses and the music track, and it’s a very interactive game.”

Speaking of Mr. Big, Chris Noth helped unveil the “Sex and the City” slot machine in Las Vegas. Video below.

So, starting today, we’ll look back at the making of the movie’s wardrobe with costume designer Tish Monaghan. First up: Edward (Robert Pattinson) and Bella (Kristen Stewart).

BEGINNING THE PROCESS
“There was already a particular look in place, so the first thing I did was find out from the studio and the director, Chris Weitz, if they were happy with the looks of the characters,” recalled costume designer Tish Monaghan. “Were there things they wanted changed? Once I got those instructions — there were only minor adjustments to be made.” Bella’s presentation from “Twilight” was kept consistent. “[The studio and Chris] liked that she was a tomboy and that she was in earth tones and was a little bit out of place. So I picked up on all of those comments, and when I did all of my purchasing for her, I stayed more or less in that world unless there was something specific that was required in the script.”

During a interesting (to say the least!) double “date” with Mike (Michael Welch, left) and Jacob (Taylor Lautner, right) Bella wore the “Signe Smocked top” by Joie and American Eagle jeans. But the most notable part of her outfit is her token accessories — the turquoise bracelet and moonstone ring, which, according to Tish, were the very same trinkets Kristen wore in “Twilight.”

The debut opening of Roy Petley’s gallery in London caused an uproar in the West End, with people seen queuing down the street to get in. In fact, that wintry October night saw so many people in the gallery that the fire department responded four times to heat alarms going off in the building.

This dream of an art gallery began many years ago by a boy abandoned to a children’s home. Trapped in a dark and dreary world, even the beatings by his guardians could not curb Roy’s irrepressible spirit. “My escape was painting and drawing, the reality was horrible. I quite liked the fistfights but I didn’t like the beatings,” he confides. Becoming the first ever to receive a scholarship at the children’s home at the tender age of sixteen, Roy left for Brighton University but after his first semester he decided to go to Florence in the arms of a beautiful woman. His thirst for the foundations of art, well-drawn, well-coloured and well-painted works naturally drew him to the Italian masters of old; Leonardo da Vinci, and Michelangelo. Several years later, after living through his work in Italy, he returned to his homeland, England. There, he exhibited on the Green Park railings, a then melting pot of would be artists.

A chance meeting with the Duchess of Kent was the beginning of a lifelong friendship with the British royal family. The late Queen Mother and the Prince of Wales are collectors of his works, the late Queen Mother being particularly fond of his Norfolk landscapes. A whirlwind romance with an adoring public commenced, with sell-out shows following him wherever he went, from London to Barbados, Dublin to Dallas.

To satisfy his love of beautiful sports cars, three Alfa Romeos, engine red Ferraris and an E-type Jaguar once decorated his backyard. He even appeared on Good Morning Texas, flanked between William Shatner who “was on before me trying to promote a video game for Star Wars”, and a piano-playing-pot-bellied-pig who refused to perform. “It wouldn’t play the piano because it was camera shy”, Roy deduced.

Roy’s rags to riches story caught the eye of both the BBC and Sky Television, resulting in documentaries on his life and his art, and forced a change on his outlook on life. “I used to have people lining up to buy my work – but once the BBC did their documentary on me, they ended up banging on my front door trying to buy a paintings, it became a nightmare!” he exclaimed. Once dubbed the Best Dressed Man in London, this sort of major publicity was not in line with Roy’s solitary nature. In the early nineties, he chose tranquillity over fame and moved to a lonely farmhouse in the south-west of France. “I left England to become an unknown, to have a peaceful life”, he said. He quickly applied his energy to rebuilding his new-found home, which was soon to be featured in House & Garden, Homes & Gardens and Interior magazine.

An impressionistic painter, he finds inspiration in his surroundings. In the summers, he is often found by local fishermen knee-deep in water, drawing models draped in flowing white dresses and adorned with wide-brimmed hats that Roy is known for collecting, or painting his neighbour’s children licking ice lollipops in his rose garden.

Self-taught, Roy experiments with all mediums, disclosing how he changes “mediums when I want to change my mind-set”. At his leisure, he moves effortlessly from pastel to oil, watercolour to sanguine. He speaks of each medium with equal passion, stressing on the ability to draw well being essential when working with any medium, particularly watercolour – “There is no changing it…there is only one chance”. He continues on saying, “watercolours are my reference for my oil paintings, an oil painting becomes a fuller version of the watercolour on a canvas.” He describes how Degas used to work with charcoal before drawing in the pastel, but prefers himself to draw with colour immediately. He is also is quick to illustrate that “pastel is a dusty medium and after a short period of working with it, I am always happy to return to my natural medium – oil.”

The subjects of Roy’s works are as varied as his mediums, drawing upon inspiration from anything and everything – portraits, still life, cityscapes and landscapes have all felt the touch of his brush in his paintings. “I usually have an idea of what I want to do before I begin, I see the world through my paintbrush and palette – all that remains to do is to recreate the image that I see in my mind.”

Whether it be landscape or still life, light and shadow are the basis of his works. There is a certain light and youthfulness, a grace and joyfulness that emanates from his paintings. He depicts an untouchable innocence that is reminiscent of childhood and days gone by. Although it may seem an old-fashioned and romantic world, this is Roy’s world as it exists today. Each painting draws you in, engages you with its subtle colours and soft lines.

It is said that once you have had a show in Cork Street, you have made it in the art world. Having exhibited in galleries on the street for over a decade, Roy had reached a point in his life where he wanted to give something back. In his youth, Roy himself had approached gallery after gallery, carrying his portfolio, and had been turned away. In later years, the same galleries would beg him to exhibit with them – he wanted to provide artists with the opportunities he never had, with “a gallery they can trust, where artists feel comfortable”, where the open doors and laid back atmosphere would encourage artists – especially the younger ones. In the autumn of 2003, he did just that. “I started up the gallery because I was really fed up with how artists are treated”, he explained.

Petley Fine Art sets itself apart from other galleries because as Roy proudly states, “this is the first time an artist has owned a major gallery promoting work other than his own”. True to his word, Roy has raised the bar for the whole area by filling his gallery with only the finest paintings and sculptures from an international pantheon of artists. “We have famous artists, infamous artists, and also young artists just starting out in their careers – regardless of where they are in their careers, it is their talent that attracts us to them.”

It is this refreshing concoction of artists that gives the gallery its lively character and explains why artists enjoy exhibiting there. Neil Forster, an artist of Petley Fine Art and an established portrait painter whose sitters include The Prince of Wales, speaks highly of the gallery. “I thought this gallery opening in “the” art street of London and offering art with no over-intellectualizing or posing, is so refreshing that it must in time be one of the most visited galleries in London.”

Roy is also quick to point out that a lot of effort has been made to ensure nothing distracts from the paintings. His long-standing motto being, “the art is foremost, the gallery secondary and all emphasis is on the artists”.

Filled with boundless energy and enthusiasm, Roy floods his gallery with the same vitality he fills his paintings. Now with three galleries spread across Europe, Petley Fine Art seems to be going from strength to strength. As for Roy, does he miss the good old days when he was a struggling painter? “Well,” he laughs, saying, “I have artists ringing up at 4 AM telling me their problems with their wives who are jealous of their models. One artist calls up and says can I come see you now? I think, what’s going on here?”

I’m sure most of you are familiar with these images that have been circulating the blogosphere:

First, let me point out that Al Gore has failed at proving that Global Warming exists. That’s like trying to prove that Santa exists. Sure, wouldn’t it be dandy? But facts are facts and fiction is fiction. So, what does a has-been politician do when his life’s work has been proven time and time again to be a fraud? Well, if this has-been politician is Al Gore; he resorts to Photoshopping “evidence”. I mean, Photoshop trumps science, right? Wrong. Sorry, Al. It doesn’t. Just like whining about pregnant chads doesn’t win an election. YES, we all remember your whiny ass complaining about pregnant chads and dimples on ballots.

In the images above you can clearly see that several massive hurricanes have been Photoshopped. It’s been proven that hurricanes are at a 30 year low. Here are some graphs I found at Watts Up With That:

Both Northern Hemisphere and South Hemisphere AND therefore overall Global hurricane activity has continued to sink to levels not seen since the 1970s. Even more astounding, when the Southern Hemisphere hurricane data is analyzed to create a global value, we see that Global Hurricane Energy has sunk to 30-year lows, at the least. Since hurricane intensity and detection data is problematic as one goes back in time, when reporting and observing practices were different than today, it is possible that we underestimated global hurricane energy during the 1970s.

Using a well-accepted metric called the Accumulated Cyclone Energy index or ACE for short (Bell and Chelliah 2006), which has been used by Klotzbach (2006) and Emanuel (2005) (PDI is analogous to ACE), and most recently by myself in Maue (2009) , simple analysis shows that 24-month running sums of global ACE or hurricane energy have plummeted to levels not seen in 30 years.

Why use 24-month running sums instead of simply yearly values? Since a primary driver of the Earth’s climate from year to year is the El Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO) acts on time scales on the order of 2-7 years, and the fact that the bulk of the Southern Hemisphere hurricane season occurs from October – March, a reasonable interpretation of global hurricane activity requires a better metric than simply calendar year totals. The 24-month running sums is analogous to the idea of “what have you done for me lately”. During the past 6 months, extending back to October of 2008 when the Southern Hemisphere tropical season was gearing up, global ACE had crashed due to two consecutive years of well-below average Northern Hemisphere hurricane activity. To avoid confusion, I am not specifically addressing the North Atlantic, which was above normal in 2008 (in terms of ACE), but the hemisphere (and or globe) as a whole. The North Atlantic only represents a 1/10 to 1/8 of global hurricane energy output on average but deservedly so demands disproportionate media attention due to the devastating societal impacts of recent major hurricane landfalls.

If you look at the second image I posted; the one with the faux-hurricanes… you’ll notice that the Arctic has magically disappeared! Funny, since the Arctic ice is currently at the SAME levels as 1979. The good people at Daily Tech pointed this out.

so i know it’s american thanksgiving today, not canadian.
(we had our hay day a few weeks back when the october days were still lit.)

but i never got around to posting what our thanksgiving looked like, so i thought no better time than when the holiday is at least being celebrated somewhere.

since neither emily or i was going to be around the matheson dinner table in edmonton, the holiday could pretty much be whatever we wanted. 

turkey on the beach sounded awesome, so that’s what we did.

we went down to granville island that bright sunday morning to pick out a lucky chicken (when turkey decides to be a non-dry meat, maybe i’ll convert back) and some fresh vegetables.
upon arriving home, we fired up the oven and a few hours later, out came our feast. yams, beans, stuffing, o my. 

our good friend ellie, another thanksgiving orphan, came to snatch us from our apartment and after a stop at the gas station to get some firewood, we fumbled our way with bags full of trimmings down the trillion steps to wreck beach.

we scoped out the perfect spot and there we sat.
on english bay.
stoking a fire and eating our homemade glory. we even had whipping cream for the pumpkin pie.

about 20 minutes in this homeless dude came over to warm his hands. we offered up a plate and he joined us for dinner.
half hour later, after the sun had retired, a bunch of his homeless friends joined us and we all got to talking over empty pots and a half empty bottle of wine.

it became something we didn’t expect, but what a blessing. to be talking about life with dudes who had called the beach their home for years. i think one guy counted a dozen years. a dozen years.

if you let it, life can be something significantly greater than what you thought.

Hello!

This is just a cheeky little update explaining my absence on this blog lately. I have been rewriting some old poetry and working on new material and I haven’t really taken the time to upload it yet, as I feel it isn’t good enough yet.

I have been active on DailyBooth and Twitter (both accessable trough the tabs above). I am planning on taking the pictures to match my texts and placing them there.

Staffordshire University rugby union team showed their dominating form yesterday, that has led to the top of the league table. After beating Wolverhampton University 76-7 yesterday. Their victory stands them at the top of the league table with 240 points scored with only 40 points cored against them. Even though the stoke campus of Staffordshire university is the second team the Stafford campus are currently fourth in the very same league. When the two teams played earlier in the season Stoke had a clear victory of Stafford with 46 points to 7.

After some fowl play by the away team stoke stamped their authority on the game and ran their way to an easy victory.

Due to the lower quality of game play from the Wolverhampton side, the referee was forced to make the scrum uncontested. This meant the team who put the ball into the scrum, win the ball, this is because the opposition were not allowed to hook the ball back to their team.

After the game yesterday this leaves Staffordshire University (second team Stoke campus) Undefeated leaders of the championship.

The Number Of Showings In October 2004 Was 22 Giving A Weekly Average Of 5.0 For A Per Listing Average Of 2.4.

2005 Saw 52 Showings In October Which Represented An INCREASE Of 136.6% For The Same Period Of The Previous Year. This Gave A Weekly Average Of 11.7 For 3.1 Visits Per Listing.

October 2006 Recorded A MASSIVE 413.5% More Showings Compared To The Same Period Of The Previous Year. 267 Was The Total Number Of Showings Giving A Weekly Average Of 60.3. Each Listing Received An Average Of 4.2 Visits.

The start of IT Parks in Tier-II cities was a manifestation of the consistent progress Tamil Nadu has been registering in software exports, the Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin said on Thursday.

Laying the foundation stone for the IT Park at Navalpattu Special Economic Zone here, Mr. Stalin said software exports from Tamil Nadu during 2008-09 clocked a 29 per cent rise to reach Rs. 36,680 crores, involving a workforce of 2.8 lakh. Tamil Nadu, he said, was obliterated from the economic stagnation elsewhere owing to the Government’s keenness to generate employment through industrial progress.

Mr. Stalin emphasised that in the DMK regimes since 1989, the women SHG movement and other empowerment initiatives, including accordance of inheritance rights, provision of marriage assistance, and priority for women in appointment of teachers in elementary schools, were being accorded a fillip in keeping with the resolution for women’s emancipation adopted at the self-respect conference of Chengalpattu under Periyar’s leadership.

Out of Rs. 11,132 crores forwarded as loans to SHGs across the country, a sum of Rs. 2,124 accounting for 20 per cent was given to the groups in Tamil Nadu. Mr. Stalin cited instances of the lending for SHGs by Indian Bank and the Indian Overseas Bank to the groups in Tamil Nadu to the extent of 65 per cent and 45 per cent respectively. “This signifies the high credibility enjoyed by the SHGs of Tamil Nadu owing to their prompt repayment.” Applauding the SHGs for making the State proud, he urged them to take up entrepreneurship in right earnest.

Referring to the Tiruverumbur Taluk he inaugurated on the occasion, Mr. Stalin said the long-persisting demand that was ignored by the previous regime despite forceful pleas by the Tiruverumbur MLA K.N. Sekaran was discussed purposefully in the last assembly session and a GO was passed on Wednesday.

The Deputy Chief Minister laid the foundation for 1,838 works worth Rs. 68.73 crores, commissioned 940 projects to the tune of 29.8 crores and distributed welfare assistance under various schemes to the extent of Rs. 28.73 crores.

Mr. Stalin spent about one hour and ten minutes after the function to handover in person the cheques for revolving fund and working capital to 3,004 SHGs, allotment letters to nine IT companies, and patta documents to 100 residents of the Malligaipatti Samathuvapuram.

The best performing banks to receive honours for SHG financing were in the order of Indian Overseas Bank, Tiruchi District Central Cooperative Bank, and Indian Bank. Among the branches the Lalgudi branch of IOB stood first. Mr. Stalin also honoured the Lead District Manager Ramdas in recognition of his meritorious services to SHGs.

Presiding over, the State Transport Minister K.N. Nehru attributed the sanction of various projects to Tiruchi to the efforts of Mr. Stalin. The Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment D. Napolean, State Ministers N. Selvaraj and Poongothai Aladi Aruna, the District Collector T. Soundiah, IT Department Secretary P.W.C. Davidar, ELCOT Managing Director Santhosh Babu, and MLAs spoke on the occasion.

திருச்சி அருகே உள்ள நவல்பட்டில் 400 ஏக்கர் இடம் தேர்வு செய்யப்பட்டது. மொத்தம் 9 நிறுவனங்களுக்கு தொழில் நுட்ப பூங்காவிற்கு இடங்கள் ஒதுக்கப்பட்டு உள்ளன.

தொழில் நுட்ப பூங்காவிற்கு அடிக்கல் நாட்டு விழா நாளை மாலை 4.30 மணிக்கு நவல்பட்டில் நடக்கிறது. அமைச்சர் கே.என்.நேரு தலைமை தாங்குகிறார். அமைச்சர்கள் செல்வராஜ், பூங்கோதை, மத்திய மந்திரி நெப்போலியன் முன்னிலை வகிக்கிறார்கள்.

முன்னதாக நாளை (22-ந்தேதி) காலை 11 மணிக்கு முன்னாள் எம்.எல்.ஏ.வும் திருச்சி மாவட்ட தி.மு.க. செயலாளருமான அன்பில் பொய்யாமொழியின் மகன் பொ.உதயநிதி-அஞ்சுகம் திருமண வரவேற்பு நிகழ்ச்சி திருச்சி கரூர்-பைபாஸ் ரோட்டில் உள்ள கலைஞர் அறிவாலயத்தில் நடக்கிறது. இதில் துணை-முதல் அமைச்சர் மு.க.ஸ்டாலின் கலந்து கொண்டு மணமக்களை வாழ்த்தி பேசுகிறார்.

இந்த நிகழ்ச்சிகளில் பங்கேற்க மு.க.ஸ்டாலின் இன்று மாலை திருப்பூரில் இருந்து புறப்பட்டு திருச்சிக்கு இரவு 9 மணிக்கு வருகிறார். அவருக்கு பெட்டவாய்த்தலையில் திருச்சி மாவட்ட தி.மு.க. சார்பில் தாரை, தப்பட்டை முழங்க உற்சாக வரவேற்பு அளிக்கப்படுகிறது.

இன்று இரவு சங்கம் ஓட்டலில் மு.க.ஸ்டாலின் தங்குகிறார். அதன் பிறகு நாளை நிகழ்ச்சிகளில் கலந்து கொண்டு விட்டு இரவு விமானம் மூலம் சென்னை புறப்பட்டு செல்கிறார்.

திருச்சிக்கு மு.க.ஸ்டாலின் வருகையையொட்டி அவரை வரவேற்கும் வகையில் பிரமாண்ட வளைவுகள் , டிஜிட்டல் பேனர்கள் வைக்கப்பட்டு உள்ளன. திருச்சி முழுவதும் சாலையோரங்களில் தி.மு.க. கொடிகள், அலங்கரிக் கப்பட்டு உள்ளன.

This post marks week 3 of a three-part series on the coverage of the Boston-based WBUR program Here & Now during the month of October 2009. As the previous post in the series focused on Here & Now’s national news coverage during October, this week I will discuss the program’s coverage of local news and events.

In analyzing Here & Now’s local news coverage, one can see that the only thread that ties the stories together is the fact that they discuss an event that happened in Boston or they feature a local expert being interviewed about a topic.

This broadness means that stories can range a home genetic test developed by a Boston University professor to a new documentary about a local woman who died from AIDS.

Most of the time, these local stories are saved for the second half of the broadcast—especially if they also fall under the “arts” category. This scheduling means that, according to the structure of the program (as I described in a previous post), that Here & Now covers most local stories as secondary features, giving the headline spot to more widespread international and national news the feature spot.

However, there was one exception to this pattern, when four small town New Hampshire teenagers were arrested for allegedly killing a woman and brutally injuring her daughter while they slept. On October 7, Here & Now led its news coverage with this story, which included an interview with the editor of the Nashua Telegraph, a newspaper that is published in a city nearby to where the attacks occurred.

This story was the only coverage of a local event that was presented as “breaking news.” The other local stories illustrated the newsworthy aspects of prominence, proximity, meaning, and human-interest, rather than the importance and timeliness aspects that a homicide embodies.

Because of these weightier newsworthy aspects, Here & Now made the right choice in placing the attacks in Mont Vernon, NH, as the headline story. While many of the other local stories covered the lighter side of news (such as the arts or “Halloween science”), this story was much more serious and therefore capable of grabbing an audience’s attention—exactly what a headline in any news publication or broadcast should do.

Diwali, the Festival of Lights, is a religious event for Hindus, Sikhs, and Jains, it takes place between the end of September and ends in October.  The festival is celebrated internationally around the world by people of religious backgrounds and those who are interested in learning and participating in different cultural events.  In some countries with large populations of Hindus such as India, Malaysia, Singapore, and Guyana Diwali is an official holiday.

In Canada, Diwali is celebrated by the Hindu, Sikh, and Jain communities as well as by others who may have an Indian heritage or want to celebrate the beautiful festival of lights.  On October 9^th, 2009, the Rogers Centre hosted an event for the public to come and celebrate a part of Diwali known as, Mahautsav; the dome was transformed into a marvelous array of lights.

Diwali receives publicity and promotion through word of mouth, religious groups, leaders, followers, and charities.  Diwali has been celebrated for thousands of years and does not really need media promotion and publicity, however, at such events that took place on October 9^th at the Rogers Centre media will be present and there will be pre promotion from supporters and sponsors at such events.
