Probably one of the best ninja movies of all time backed up by an awesum storyline as well.

This one is not a new thing, but I love it!! Way more than the real Kamen Rider Decade series…. it sucks until the one before last episode.
I still have expectation for the last episode which will be aired this Sunday…

I’m glad the actor for Kuuga ( Joe Odagiri ), doesnt return as Kuuga in Decade series. Decade is made for kids with simple and not too heavy plot which I find boring after 5 episodes… and Kuuga is made for teenagers to adult with heavy and complex plot which never gets old to me… and it’s still normal… there’s no gay stuff included yet… different with Decade, there are too many gay stuff there. They even made 2 gay episodes ” Decade travelling to Amazon world “….
I’m beginning to lose my interests on this franchise…

Joe Odagiri and Masami Nagasawa have been cast in co-starring roles on a TBS drama series next season. Tentatively titled “Boku no Imouto,” the drama is based on an original script by writer Shunsaku Ikehata.

Odagiri plays an elite surgeon, while Nagasawa plays his younger sister. Unlike her brother, Nagasawa’s character is poor in academics to the point of being called “miraculously stupid,” but her strengths lie in her good nature and power of living. However, she also has a bad eye for men, and in the first episode she is discovered to be having an affair with a married man, leading to a big fight between the two siblings. But because they lost their parents when they were young, they grew up with a strong bond despite their constant conflicts.

“Boku no Imouto” will air on Sundays at 9:00pm, starting in April.

Ça s’annonçait bien : Odagiri Joe (belle gueule du cinéma nippon et accessoirement pas mauvais acteur) + Une adaptation d’un anime/manga assez atypique + Otomo Katsushiro à la réalisation (précisons pour les imberbes de la culture pop japonaise : l’auteur-dessinateur d’Akira, entre autres).

Synopsis rapide :
Notre héros aux cheveux blancs (comme dans le morceau, que vous pouvez chanter aussi à condition d’avoir un balais espagnol sur la tête) voit les ectoplasmes des forêts qui tourmentent les hommes…il se trimbale une caisse de bois remplie de poudres de perlimpinpin pour les guérir, ou autre chose, après tout le film reste évasif…aussi bien il y cache ces godemichés en jelly violette assortis de poils de brosse à dent vibrants si chers aux érotomanes insulaires locaux.

Bref…C’est pas un boute-en-train, et il rencontre des gens qui suintent de l’oreille sans écouter Van Halen, qui ont les cornes qui poussent sans même avoir de conjoint et qui ont des tatouages amovibles bien mieux que les sales trucs cancérigènes au henné pourri, salamandre de l’aine ou papillon des reins, tribal des plages et kanji à l’envers…passons.

Mais chaque héros se doit d’avoir une enfance difficile, et un présent frappé du sceau du destin, patati-patata.

L’image est léchée, la musique discrète et donc sympa, le jeu pas mal, l’histoire pas inintéressante…voilà tout le problème. C’est pas seulement fade face à l’anime, c’est un peu fade tout court: pas de gros morceaux de bravoure.

Visuellement, c’est bien quand même, faut dire ce qui est : ultra graphique, très “animation” dans les découpages. Mais le jeu d’acteur est sans grande conviction hélas : ça assure le steak, mais pas sur la garniture…quoique vu le coefficient de verdure du film, mon image tombe à l’eau (croupie et hantée comme de rigueur)…C’est un peu le Cinéma Flunch : des trucs pas dégueu à volonté, plutôt équilibrés, mais pas le souvenir mémorable.

Peu de relief, dommage…le film est agréable mais l’attente plaçait la barre plus haute. À voir avec un œil vierge, ça doit être bien. 3,76/5

Jo Odagiri has been my favorite Japanese actor for while now. Those eyes, that face, that “look”. He makes films about gay retirement villages and plays ghetto-doctor-playas with cornrows, and does musical period samurai movies with Zhang Zhiyi. And then he turns up at the press conference, smiles, runs a hand through his latest avant garde hairstyle, and shows off an outfit straight off the streets of Harajuku. He is sexy in a way that no male Hollywood celebrity is, or even could be, because his appeal is in his elegance- handsome, suave, stylish…a whole way of being for men, a mascultinity, that has just about vanished in the West.

Although of course, such things can never last. As with Shingo from SMAP and Kenji Sakaguchi before him, his face is starting to take on that fleshy, wornout look that Japanese high-rotation celebrities get after their third or fourth year of constant exposure. Perhaps they just got that little bot older, or did one too many commercial this week, or we just saw their face that one too many time….

Still – he has done well from it. His wikipedia profile contains not only the usual info about hometown and film projects, but startlingly, a year-by-year breakdown of his income. How do they know????????? In 2004, he took in 35 million. In 2005 that jumped to 100,000,000.  And since he has picked up the account for promoting the Canon IXY Digital Camera (taking over from the similarly stylish Nakata), his earnings have presumably surged again.

At the moment Canon is opening a “Jo Odagiri Cafe” at Roppongi Hills -a coffee shop decorated with pictures of the actor, and the photos he (supposedly) took around Greece and Italy with the aforementioned camera. It wont be there long so…enjoy it while it lasts.
