Offhand, I can’t think of anything I hold sacred.  I think everything and everyone can be made fun of, but some things can still be inappropriate.  An example is a bit of useless knowledge I saw today:

Now, I’m not a fan of the Mormon faith, but that was an inappropriate cheap shot.  It’s also misleading.  “More than many” would seem to indicate that a sizeable number of Mormons have over 100 wives.  Plus, I think by the time you’re up to 100 wives, you’re no longer a part of a recognized religion, you’re clearing into cult leader territory.

My quest to quit my day job has led me to this system. I have been working on this 10 step punting system for quite some time now, and finally it is time to prove to myself and hopefully other punters that my system works.

The goal of my system is to enable me to save up enough money in the bank, so that I can quit my boring day job and use the free time to spend with my daughter.

Like they say, proof is in the pudding, so before I go live with the system, I am first and foremost going to prove to myself that it really works.

Everyone has a favourite number. I’m partial to probability- and its counterpart- improbability;

I wonder who you are reading these musings of mine…this blog has 754 hits- so someone’s reading these snippets of my mind. What do you think/feel when you see/read?

The odds of you being here out of our 6 billion fellow humans make you rather special- to me.
Throw in the fact that we don’t know each other- if there is more than one degree of separation between us, you’re even more special!

If you think about it, everyday events and the banality of life seem rather miraculous. Existence aside, random collisions in both space and thought are so very improbable!

Oh well- Imma just say thanks- for sharing thoughts and discovering this little piece of virtual space I call my own.

Whilst thinking about what people are buying for each other, and seeing all the usual Christmas tat in the shops (why, oh why, do they start filling up the shops with rubbish from October …), it was interesting to receive a catalogue of ‘alternative gifts‘ through the post.

Fancy buying some chickens for a family in Uganda?  What about water for school children in Ethiopia or even just ensure that children are correctly registered with the state, so they get what they are entitled to?  And how often could one consider training a teacher for £180?

When you think of the destination of most of the tat we’ll end up buying over the next few months, how long those cheap plastic things will last, its interesting to consider how long the legacy of one of these alternative gifts could last.  For some, it may be life changing.

A curious thought.

As digital brings us new tools we use every day, we occasionally find the need to use something other than our standard letters and numbers to maximize a tool’s effectiveness. The web brought “:” and “/” into far greater prominence, as evident in any URL. Email made the atsign the obsolete alphanumerics’ best rags to riches story. “@” then got a second huge boost as the symbol of replies and retweets on social media sites. Hash tagging by Twitter Nation gave “#” street cred that far exceeds its previous claim to fame as a telephone pound sign. Speaking of street cred, emoticons don’t carry much, so parentheses and colons need not apply.

Ice, I like those.  I like Green Bay more than I do Seattle.  I know Seattle is at home, but that doesn’t hold the same weight it used to.  Detroit sucks yes, but Seattle aint that good either.  That being said, you know I’m a big fan of history and trends — both of the Seahawk wins came at home against the two terrible teams you mentioned.  It stands to reason then,  it will be the same story this week against the Lions.

Here’s a surprise — I love the Falcons at home this week.  Atlanta is 3-0 at home. Washington is 0-3 on the road.  The Falcons are coming off a tough loss last week, almost pulling out the victory on the road against the NFC best Saints.  They will be out for blood this week.  And, the Skins blow.  Enough said.

All the other games to me are a toss-up.  A lot of 3 point spreads this week.  It scares me.  I did like the Dolphins, but I’m beginning to think its a sucker bet.  They are turning into the sexy pick of the week, and I don’t like it.  Our beloved Bears take on the Cards at home.  The Bears are 3-0 at home, while the Cards are 3-0 on the road.  Stay away from this game.  I could see Houston making it a game in Indy, but I’m not confident enough to wager.  Chargers and Giants.  Chargers arrow is pointing up, Giants on a three game losing streak heading the other way.  Stay away.  Both the Cowboys and Eagles are on a roll.  This is always an emotional game.  Again, could go either way.

So in my mind there are four possible picks:  Packers, Seahawks, Dolphins, and Falcons.  I suggest parlaying the strongest two.  I know which way I’m leaning….

This led to her appointment as an X Factor judge and her subsequent performance, and in its turn to her contract as the face of L’Oréal.

But it is more than just marketing. Cheryl is not just a pretty face and a perfect body. She possesses a warm and intelligent personality that wins people’s hearts. She is authentic and solid, honest and real.

Given what she has achieved so far, it is not surprising that there is much talk of her acting abilities. Recently there has been talk that she is being sought to be the new Dr Who assistant, but now that has gone further. There is speculation that she will be the next James Bond girl.

Brett “The Grim” Rogers will step into the cage with Fedor Emelianenko on Saturday.  Rogers says he was dubbed “The Grim,” because Rogers would always say, “I’m gonna kill him” when asked how his next fight was going to go.  Brett Rogers is physically imposing at 6′5″ and 280 lbs (cuts weight to make 265 lb heavyweight limit); he was raised in Chicago, Illinois and currently trains with Ambition MMA in Eagan, Minnesota.  He is 10-0 with 9 wins coming by way of knockout and the 10th coming by way of submission due to strikes, and Rogers is currently the #8 ranked heavyweight in the world by Ares MMA.  Rogers’ last win was his most significant; he stopped Andrei Arlovski, former UFC heavyweight champion, by knockout in the 1st round.  Coming off that win, Rogers has been afforded the opportunity to fight the #1 heavyweight fighter in the world, Fedor Emelianenko.  The odds makers have made him a 4 to 1 underdog in this fight, but if you ask him how this fight will go, Rogers will say, “I’m gonna kill him.”

It seems everybody wants a piece of Cheryl Cole these days.
