I went through a very difficult journey the past few days.  I was dealing with old energies from my childhood. I made some unhappy realizations like my inner child is so far incapable of believing that being molested didn’t ruin her and that she is absol-freaking-lutely TERRIFIED by masculinity. I had no idea…. I had to work with some very painful emotions and energies and I know I’m not done, just out on another spiral of my journey. It’s hard.

As if to make me feel better after that, I was meditating and was climbing Yggdrasil, the World Tree, when it suddenly turned into a bridge I was walking across… and into Asgard. I met with Odin and Thor and they helped me with my fear and my pain and told me what I needed to hear and then they blessed me. I fell in love with Thor all over again, recognizing how my deep love of thunderstorms is all part of my love for him. That was a surprising and blessed experience.

Now, on a completely different topic, if you don’t mind me self-selling a bit, I have self-published my first book of poetry, called Truth, Love, Blood and Bones. You can read more about it on my other blog, if you’ re interested.

I got a chance to see “Canstruction” last week at the World Financial Center. They had artists make sculptures out of CANS for charity … Check it out:

I loved it! It was awesome to see what they created.

I (obviously) made that out of an old doll. My grandma it to gave me… I’m not sure why she’s still giving me dolls, but I think it put it to good use, don’t you think? Hahaha

Als de Goedheiligman anno 2009 zou hebben geleefd, dan stond de oude baas zeker bovenaan in de Quote500. In vroeger tijden was de gulle gever al megapopulair. Als heilige stond hij eeuwenlang met stip op de tweede plek. Maria was namelijk de absolute nummer één. Zelfs in de tegenwoordige tijd is de Sint ontzettend populair. En dat ondanks het oprukkende geweld van de kerstman. Sinterklaas is in dit Jaar van de Traditie zelfs gekozen tot de belangrijkste traditie van Nederland. Heel binnenkort is het zo ver: dan breekt het ‘heerlijk avondje’ weer aan. Het is nu écht aftellen.

Appeltjes van oranje
Over Sint-Nicolaas bestaan veel verhalen. Onderwijzer Jan Schenkman zorgde er in de negentiende eeuw voor dat wij Sinterklaas vieren op de manier zoals we dat nu doen. Hij verzon de Zwarte Pieten, de stoomboot en de appeltjes van oranje. Hij bedacht ook dat de Sint uit Spanje moest komen, dat rijmde namelijk goed op het oranje van die appeltjes. Schenkman kwam ook met een oplossing voor het vertrek van de Sint na 6 december: de heilige zou per stoomtrein – in de tijd van Schenkman erg nieuw en modern – terugreizen naar Spanje.

Nicolaas van Myra
Wat de Sint in Spanje moest gaan doen, is overigens onbekend. De Sint die wij met z’n allen kennen, heeft immers niets te maken met Spanje. Nicolaas van Myra – zoals Sinterklaas officieel heet – komt van origine uit Klein-Azië, het tegenwoordige Turkije. Hij werd ergens in de derde eeuw na Christus geboren. En hij overleed op 6 december 343. Ons Sinterklaasfeest wordt dus officieel gevierd op de sterfdag van Nicolaas. Later zijn we dit de naamdag van Sint-Nicolaas gaan noemen. Heel waarschijnlijk werd voor het overlijden van Nicolaas al een Germaans offerfeest gehouden. Dit cadeautjesgeeffeest moest voor voorspoed in het nieuwe jaar zorgen. Elementen van dit feest zijn nu nog steeds terug te zien in ons Sinterklaasfeest.

Botjes naar Bari
Het graf van Nicolaas kun je nog steeds zien in het Turkse Demre. De bisschop ligt er echter niet meer begraven. In verband met de steeds verder oprukkende islam en de daarmee samenhangende spanningen rondom de kruistochten in de elfde eeuw zijn de botjes van de bisschop door Italiaanse zeelieden naar Bari gebracht. De zeelui waren erg bang dat de islamieten het graf van de megapopulaire heilige zouden vernietigen. De botten van Nicolaas werden in Bari begraven. Rondom dit graf is een kerk gebouwd: de basiliek van Sint-Nicolaas.

Wonderbaarlijke verhalen
Met de komst van de botten van de Sint naar het Europese vasteland kwamen ook de vele wonderbaarlijke verhalen over. Deze verhalen werden mondeling overgeleverd. In de loop der eeuwen zijn ze aangepast, gewijzigd, aangedikt en aangevuld. De verhalen vertellen over een kleine Nicolaas die al vanaf zijn geboorte wonderen verrichtte. Zo kon de Sint direct na zijn geboorte rechtop in zijn badje staan, de handen ten hemel geheven. Verder wilde hij op vastendagen niet van zijn moeders borst drinken.

Jongetjes in het pekelvat
De heilige-in-spe werd priester en later bisschop. Hij zegende een zeeman die hem wilde bedriegen, hij redde zeelieden in de storm, zorgde er voor dat de drie dochters van een arm edelman niet tot de prostitutie werden gedwongen door hen een bruidsschat (een gouden bol) te geven en voorkwam een hongersnood door zakken met graan te vermenigvuldigen in de haven van Myra. Het meest bekend is echter de legende van de drie jongetjes in het pekelvat. De drie knapen werden door een herbergier vermoord, in stukken gesneden en in een pekelton gestopt. Nicolaas krijgt het vlees in handen en brengt de drie op een miraculeuze manier weer tot leven. Door dit wonder werden de herbergier en zijn vrouw meteen bekeerd.

Vikingschepen en pelgrims
De kruistochten zorgden er voor dat de Nicolaasverhalen van Oost naar West en van West naar Oost gingen. Er werden allerlei zaken aan toegevoegd. Sinterklaas werd steeds meer een superheld. De Sinterklaasverhalen kwamen uiteindelijk voornamelijk via Vikingschepen en via pelgrims naar het Heilige Land terecht in het Noorden en Westen van Europa. Daar had weer een vermenging plaats met lokale, Germaanse legenden en verhalen van oppergod Odin of Wodan met zijn magische paard Sleipnir. Vooral de banketletter, de pepernoten, het paard en de roe hebben we aan deze Germaanse god te danken. Door alle verhalen bij elkaar te scharen onder de vlag van Sint-Nicolaas, ontstond in feite een feest met Christelijke, Oostelijke en Germaanse invloeden. Nicolaas bereikte hierdoor de absolute sterrenstatus.

Sint in de ban
Het feest werd vanaf de vroege Middeleeuwen gevierd. Al in 1360 zie je dat er voor het eerst schoentjes worden gezet. Dat gebeurde in Dordrecht. Toen was het al een kinderfeest. De feestdag ontwikkelde zich op een rustige manier tot aan de reformatie. De protestanten hadden niet veel op met die populaire en katholieke Nicolaas. De Sint werd in de ban gedaan. Voortaan was het verboden om in het openbaar aan Sinterklaas te doen. Het feest dook in de zestiende eeuw ondergronds. In huiselijke kring werd het nog wel gevierd, zelfs bij protestanten.

Kop boven het maaiveld
Tijdens de Franse Tijd – eind achttiende eeuw – stak Sinterklaas in het openbaar weer zijn kop boven het maaiveld uit. De katholieken mochten toen hun geloof weer in het openbaar vieren. De eerste helft van de negentiende eeuw verschilde niet veel in vieringen van de voorafgaande eeuwen. Pas rond 1850 veranderde de boel dankzij onderwijzer Schenkman. Hij schreef het boekje ‘Sint-Nicolaas en zijn knecht’ en legde hiermee de basis de manier waarop we nu met Sinterklaas omgaan. Zo bedacht hij bijvoorbeeld de intocht van Sinterklaas, terwijl er nog nooit een intocht was geweest. De eerste échte intocht vond pas plaats in 1888 in Venray. In 1934 wordt Sinterklaas voor het eerst in Amsterdam binnengehaald. De Sint werd toen begeleid door van de boot geplukte Surinamers die dienst deden als Zwarte Piet. Ook Zwarte Piet is een bedenksel van Schenkman. Nog steeds borduren we voort op de creatieve invallen van de onderwijzer uit de negentiende eeuw. Wèl zijn er allerlei commerciële zaken aan toegevoegd.

Als blutiger Anfänger des Glaubens-Hopping stellt sich die Frage: Wo fange an? Gleich ins kalte Weihwasser springen und alle heimatlichen Zelte abbrechen, um als Rastafari beim rituellen Cannabis-Konsum zu debattieren, oder erstmal ‚lauwarm’ loslegen und einen kleinen Voodoo-Schrein im Schlafzimmer aufbauen? Und was lohnt sich überhaupt? Da war doch diese Religion mit der Polygamie – Islam… dazu gehört allerdings auch, 5x/Tag Richtung Mekka zu beten. Zumindest an den polygamischen Tagen ; )

Letztendlich hängt die Frage, mit welcher Religion starte ich, auch immer vom eigenen Typ ab, und da hat mir der Facebook-Ratgeber quittiert: Mir stehen alle Glaubensrichtungen offen… Was sagt also mein kleiner Helfer „Best of Gott“ dazu?

Als Lebemensch sollte man die Vielgötterei nach nordeuropäischem Vorbild ins Auge fassen: Odin und Thor geben sich überraschend spaßbetont und stehen Saufgelagen sowie One-Night-Stands mit Bürgerlich-Sterblichen alles andere als ablehnend gegenüber. Diesen Vorbildern zu folgen, sollte für den ein oder anderen unter uns nicht schwer fallen. (Foto: CC PinkMoose, Flickr)

Natürlich gibt es noch die klassische Variante, der die meisten von Haus aus nahe stehen: Den Monotheismus mit the one and only… Mr. GOTT. Um den Zahn gleich zu ziehen: da gibt es zwei Steintafeln mit einer Menge Regeln drauf. Übertragen auf heute sagen die uns: In der Einkommenssteuer die Einnahmen aus Geldanlagen korrekt angeben, kein Blick mehr über die Hecke, wenn Frau Nachbar ihren Body in die heiße Sonne packt usw. Auf der anderen Seite weiß man beim Monotheismus, woran man ist: Hier gibt es genau einen Gott für alles und es kommt nicht zu Kompetenzstreitigkeiten bei Opfergaben o.ä.

Es bleibt die Qual der Wahl… ich schlage vor, auf dem Blog hier abstimmen lassen, welche Religion als erste in der Praxis auf Herz und Nieren getestet werden soll. Ich bitte um zahlreiche Votes!

Eu deveria fazer uma página completa só pro Nine. Cara, que banda foda (eu sei que sou morta de suspeita pra falar, afinal de contas meu namorado e meu cunhado são da banda ¬¬) , não consigo parar de ouvir o Snow Borne Sorrow, o álbum todo é ótimo, putz não tem uma musica ruim. *.*

Steve disse numa entrevista recente que estava escrevendo mais coisas, talvez para o seu próximo album solo, ou para o Nine, dependendo de como as coisas se desenvolverem…eu já estou na torcida não só por um álbum novo do Nine, como zilhares de vídeos de studio, ao vivo, clip se possível – embora eles não sejam chegados a mostrar a carinha linda deles – e, se possivel, turnê.

E meninos, venham para o Brasil. Senão minha futura viagem a Londres vai ganhar outro motivo: socar vocês. xD

Se bem que, depois do sonho do JT, e da RCM, o sonho do TP e o outdoor pode até, quem sabe, ser um sinal.

Normaal is Odin best wel rustig. Maar bij mijn ouders voor hebben ze een enorm weiland. Waar al jaren geen koeien meer instaan. Het is ook een wandelpad. Maar de inwoners van gulpen hebben het lekker omgetovert tot een onoficieel losloop plek voor de honden. Heerlijk is dat. Het is altijd wel pret daar omdat ze zo ontzettend veel vrijheid hebben, maar zeker met Mac erbij is het feest en verranderd mijn rustige Odin in een echte rAussie Heerlijk om ze dan met zn 3tjes te zien racen.

 

 

 

Idag oplevede vi noget meget mærkeligt…
Men det hele starter med det sentationelle fund de har lavet i Lejre. Der har de fundet en lille bitte model af Odin, der sidder på sin tronstol “Lidskjalv” hvor han kunne skue til verdens ende og hvor ravnene “Hugin” og “Munin” sidder på armlænene og fortæller ham om det som sker i hans rige, og hvor han har guldringen “Draupner” om sin hals, den ring der hver niende nat dryppede otte nye ringe.
(Det eneste der mangler er Odins ulve, Gere og Freke, som begge dele betyder den glupske, de åd allt der blev stillet foran Odin, fordi han selv levede af vin alene)

Den er udstillet på Roskilde Museum, Og da vi ikke har været på det museum så var det da en god tur at gøre. Vi ville også ind og se Domkirken, nu hvor vi var der.
Da det er søndag så er der gratis parkering, ikke langt fra Domkirken og Museet ligger heller ikke langt derfra.

Vi begyndte at gå mod museet, hvor vi begge to stopper op samtidig og udbryder:
-Her har vi altså været før, her har vi gået.
Men vi er stadigvæk sikre på, at vi ikke har været på museet og prøver på at komme med en masse forklaringer til hvorfor vi har gået her. Den eneste gang vi kan huske at vi har været i Roskilde, var da vi besøgte vikingeskibs museet. Men der stoppede vi ikke inde i centrum.
Da vi træder ind på museumet er vi sikre, her har vi alltså været før. Nu kan vi ikke komme med nogle undskyldninger. Det var en lidt spøjs oplevelse at glemme noget så fullstændigt og at vi begge 2 gjorde det.
Til vores store overraskelse var det gratis. Så det var jo rørende billigt. Men det vil jeg også mene at det er ellers. Det koster vist kun 25 kr.
Det er et rigtig godt museum. Lejre, som ikke ligger langt fra Roskilde, var jo en af hovedbyerne i dk i Vikingetiden, så der er masse spændende historie at læse om.
Deres oldtid sektion er virkelig anbefaleses værdig og rigtig spændende.

Før vi gik i domkirken ville vi lige på cafe og få noget at drikke. Og da vi ikke kender cafeerne i Roskilde gik vi bare ind på den første bedste vi så, og det var cafe vivaldi. Den vil ikke få mange rosende ord. Det var pisse dyrt og den Chai latte jeg fik smagte ikke særlig godt.
Skal jeg derimod anbefale nogle steder, hvor de laver en forrygende Chai latte så er det:
-Bar2k På Sønder boulevard på Vesterbro i København
-Bings ligeledes på Sønder boulevard.

Men tilbage til Domkirken. Den havde jeg jo heller ikke været i, men den fandt jeg også ud af at det havde vi alltså. Det kostede 25 kroner at komme ind. Og det er jo ikke så galt. Desværre er der stillet stilladser i store dele af kirken, det er noget arbejde der skal foregå ind til sommer næste år.
De fleste af Danmarks konger og dronninger ligger begravet her. Der ligger også nogle få regenter i andre kirker, men efter Christian den 2. blev det besluttet at alle regenter skulle begraves her.

Vi fandt det rigtig spændende at finde ud af at Harald blåtand ligger begravet herinde og at Svend tveskeg også ligger der et eller andet sted. Man har egentlig ikke fundet dem, men man ved at de er blevet begravet der. Harald skulle være blevet begravet i den kirke der lå på pladsen før domkirken blev bygget.

…und ich bin nur bedingt zufrieden.

Chris Hemsworth kann ich mir schon mal schwer als Thor vorstellen. Er ist mir einfach viel zu jung und wirkt auch nicht so ernst wie Thor. Seh ich ähnlich kritisch wie den Typen der Gambit gespielt hat (und Gambit hat mir in Wolverine nicht gefallen) Aber immerhin wird er bei dem weiblichen Mainstream-Publikum punkten…

Tom Hiddleston als Loki find ich hingegen genial. Ich glaub der hat zwar bis jetzt nur TV-Rollen gehabt (zumindest hab ich ihn noch nie in einem Film gesehen) aber der hat schon dieses knöcherne und verschlagene Aussehen das ein Loki braucht.

Ja, ich glaube dass wir uns hier alle einig sein werden, dass Anthony Hopkins Verpflichtung als Odin den Film natürlich ungeheuer aufwertet und der Knüller schlechthin ist.

Natalie Portman als Jane Foster geht ebenfalls in Ordnung.

“Oh mein Gott! Ein Schwarzer spielt einen Weißen” Neee, Idris Elba als Heimdall ist fabelhaft gewählt. Seht euch mal seinen Blick an…

Na versoffen sieht Ray Stevenson schon aus, aber wird der Volstagg jetzt wirklich ausgestopft und 2/3 seines Gesichtes mit nem Bart verdeckt? Kann mir das gar nicht vorstellen.

Bei Stuart Townsend als Fandral habe ich halt wieder den Einwand dass er zu jung ist. Aber hier kann man wenigstens mit nem Bart noch was kaschieren…

NaJa, auch wenn mir Thor und seine Kumpels viel zu jung gecastet wurden, muss man sagen, dass es viel schlimmer hätte werden können.

2. Terrified that a waiter will/won’t take/leave your entree/salad? Learn the silent service code.

The silent service code is a way for a diner to “talk” to servers during a meal without saying a word, mainly to tell them that the diner is finished. This will prevent any embarrassing situations where the server would take a meal prematurely. To tell a server you are finished (only a cut of meat is ‘done’), place your napkin to the left of your plate, and place all your utensils together in a “4-o’clock” position on your plate. Utensils crossed on a plate signify that a diner is still eating. If you must leave during the meal, you should place the napkin on your chair to avoid any confusion.

Norse mythology has its roots in Proto-Norse Iron Age Scandinavian prehistory. Brickman and Campbell coined the term “Hedonic Treadmill” in their essay “Hedonic Relativism and Planning the Good Society” (1971), which appeared in M.H. Apley, ed., Adaptation Level Theory: A Symposium, New York: Academic Press, 1971, pp 287–302. The theory has consequences for understanding happiness as both an individual and a societal goal. The concept was modified by Michael Eysenck, a British psychology researcher during the late nineties, to refer to the hedonic treadmill theory which compares the pursuit of happiness to a person on a treadmill, who has to keep working just to stay in the same place. Humans rapidly adapt to their current situation, becoming habituated to the good or the bad. We are more sensitive to our relative status: both that which we recently have and that which we perceive others to enjoy.

Según comenta Luis Benshimol Chonchol, parece ser que Kenneth Branagh director de la adaptación se toma una pequeña o gran licencia cambiando al personaje de Heimdall y dándole un toque afroamericano de la mano del actro Idris Elba. Este personaje es el dios de la luz en la mitología nórdica. Es hijo de Odín y de nueve gigantas que lo nutrieron con sangre de jabalí. Además, Natalie Portman será el interés amoroso de Thor, Jane Foster. Actores como Jaimie Alexander, Colm Feore, Samuel L. Jackson y Stellan Skarsgard completan el reparto de esta cinta que será la adaptación a la gran pantalla del cómic del mismo nombre, Thor, un superhéroe de las historietas de Marvel que fue creado por Jack Kirby y Stan Lee inspirándose en el personaje mitológico.

Met vlag en wimpel! Verbazing wekkend waren petra met gizmo en ik met odin de enige cursisten die besloten om ook het “examen” te gaan doen. De rest zal wel last hebben van faalangst  Dat vonden we helemaal niet erg alles kon snel achter elkaar waardoor we de aandacht niet kwijt raakte en de hondjes zich niet gingen vervelen. (dit gebeurde wel eens in de lessen) Gizmo en Odin hebben allebei alleen maar plusjes en het ging dan ook super goed. I never, ever, EVER thought it’d turn out this way. EVER.

I have a cat. A chick cat. Her name is Ellie.                           Back off – my wife named her.

I’d have called her Fang or Conan the Mouse Destroyer.  Or Magnum. Or T-Bone. Or Thor.  Or I would just plain never have a cat.

Am I hater? No. I’ve always tolerated cats. Tolerated. Had a roommate with one and he stole some of my records – the roommate, not the cat. But you know that a guy who’s a cat person is more likely to swipe LP’s than a dog guy. Seriously. Unless it’s a foofy dog guy, and then you’re not really a dog guy.

Anyway, cats are fine – other people’s cats.

Me? Dog guy – absolute, total, complete, 110%, no-two-ways-about-it dog guy. Need proof? Look at this blog’s header. THAT’S A DOG. D-O-G. And it’s my dog. Odin. His name’s Odin. You name dogs Odin (or Magnum or Thor), not Ellie. Chick dogs are Lucy or Trudy. Or Thor.

I even started a company that makes stuff for dogs: OllyDog. When you’re done reading this go buy a bunch of their stuff, I still own 10% of the company.

Oh good lord. Here’s the cat. Rubbing her head on my computer. Only a matter of moments until she starts trodding on my keyboard. Don’t worry – I won’t have one of those jumbles of letters that keyboard trodding cats generate and are then followed with “My kittie wrote that! ; )”

Okay. Back to what matters. I – obviously – am a dog person now cohabitating with a cat and it’s working out great. Until she walks on my head in the middle of the night. Effin’ HATE that. But otherwise? I’m into having a cat.

Me? HELL no. Not enough Thorazine in the world to get me to wear this shirt. If for some reason you see me clad this way, I've been lobotomized. Pull a Chief Bromden on my ass ASAP.

And to any of my dog-people friends who think I have betrayed The Order – Step OFF. You are way out of line.

So. I’m into having a cat. Why? Cuz I’m waaaaaay NOT into having mice.

And we had a shitload.

Sure they’re cute, cute until they start crapping inside your toaster oven. Cute until they start eating your delicious baked treat you bought at Mother Trucker’s (that’s our local store) and were saving for the next morning. Cute until they gnaw through the wall – the WALL – just so they can access your kitchen’s bounty. Vermin. Not cute.

Cute? Sure. Until you crap on my clean dishes. Bad move. Now you're VERMIN and the PREDATOR'S gonna getcha...

So it’s war. Game over. Mice must go.

But try getting rid of mice when you live on 20 acres of bushes and trees and grass. It’s mouse heaven. Then they find the inside of the house – oooooh, a cushy, better heaven – and start gnawing into your heater ducts, and have themselves a mouse superhighway running to every vent in every room of your house. Crap.

Tried to get rid of mice nice: peppermint oil, plugged up all the little holes, put wire mesh in the ducts, even used catch-and-release traps. Worked. For about a week. Went nuclear – traps – worked for about a week and a day. Waking up every morning to a dead mouse – one that you killed – really sucks and gets the day off to crappy start. Except for the emotional surge that comes from victory. But that’s short-lived.

The dog would just watch the mice run across the floor – “man, those little things are fast. No way I can catch that. Guess I’ll just keep lying here.”  Of course he chases the cat – Ellie – every chance he gets.

So now there’s this cat. Ellie. Second day she’s here I wake up to a mouse next to the bed. YES! She’s a MOUSER – she’s a PREDATOR! So totally awesome.

Now I’m thinking that I’ll be waking up to dead, mauled mice every AM for a while. I’m ready for it. It’ll be worth it. But guess what?

We haven’t seen or heard a mouse or sign thereof since she brought the sacrificial one to our bedside.

The mice are gone – GONE. Packed up, adios, not to be seen – outta here. I don’t know if Ellie paid them off, shook them down, used Jedi Mind Powers, or just walked around smellin’ like a predator, but those rodents are sayanora-ized.

Cat – Ellie – best power tool I’ve ever owned. But I still hate the walking on my head in the middle of the night thing.

Hi. Hey there. Hello. Try as I might I couldn’t get a moment to sit down and write yesterday. The day was pretty busy, if you caught my twittering, you know I was at city hall listening in on some decision-making about a project in downtown. Big fun, I KNOW!

I know that I needed the time to meditate on the Tarot Journey, but I’ve been in more of an observation versus doing mode so meditation really hasn’t helped much. That sort of be still, regulate and deepen breath, count down through-alpha-into-beta-space, where I can play with my own mythic imagery has eluded me and you can tell by the contents of my journal. BLANK.

Then I pulled Wodin… The Hanged Man. The sacrificial deity, or more commonly for me, “giving up the run-about for some necessary contemplation.”

Hmm go figure. (Talking to myself here). “Alright mind, so why are we so anti-meditative?”

*brain storming*

Hanged man. Sacrifice. Letting go and looking / listening. See the world from another perspective. Standing on my head. I am not upside down, the world is? The world is not upside down, I am?

Back in 1993 or 4 I was meditating on the Hanged Man. I remember this clearly now. I think I had been stuck on him for several days, that and contemplating Tiphareth. Forgive my geek-talk but I know they are maybe not traditionally connected but the symbolism of the heart, the sun and the aura / glow around his head had me drawing lines in the sand.

Walking along the street with friend Kat and Todd, it struck me and I energetically flipped… That is I was simultaneously there, in my body but also up and over my head. Two of me, crowns touching, aware of both, not separate.

Spirit and flesh.

A dream. I remember a dream back around that time. In it I am in a dark city. Bad things are happening all around me and I am running, hiding, running again. Pursued by men in uniforms (meow!) I arrive at an intersection, and an older gentleman over the side of the fence says to me, “How long are you going to do this?”

I stare at him bewildered and then the feeling strikes me. “Two worlds” and I am only in one. There is this flash of sensation and light in my heart. The imagery of the dream, the world there flickers like a film reel that has caught and stuttered. There is this brightness and then I am no longer in that place, pursued. I am in the world of light.

The hanged man. The light around his head. The world flips upside down. What does he see? How does it look with the ground where the sky had been and everything moving in the heavens instead of down below his feet.

Speaking of that, the little bit of leather, worn and tied to his foot, suspending the hanged man to the tree which still grows, what is below him now that his foot faces the stars? Is that a path? Is he grounded in a spiritual sky and channeling the earth and all things in it?

And if he is channeling, what is coming through? What does, or will it say? Will it be like the Runes, the Furthark, cast on stone, made of blood, eye missing; Raven laughing? Will it form letters, numbers or words?

How has it become such a wonder to find myself in the place of the sacrificed? Am I grain? Wheat? What is reaped?

Suddenly I feel pretty meditative.  :)

I’m going to set myself a task, to have none (things to do) for a few days and “hang out”.

Meanwhile, my DJ is spinning “up side down”.

Golden Globes will have 5 films nominated for best animated feature this year. They changed their rules to read: “Eligible films must be feature-length (70 minutes or longer) with no more than 25% live action. If less than eight animated films qualify, the award will not be given, in which case the films would be eligible for Best Picture. If less than twelve animated films qualify, the category will be limited to three nominations per year.”

So I guess films like Avatar may not qualify. But I have a question: Are there really 5 feature-length animated films that are worthy of being nominated this year? I don’t think so.

New Images from Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland! I think this will be one film worth seeing in 3D. I imagine it will be quite trippy…

I’m not sure about the Mad Hatter’s look. It’s a little too creepy and weird. Nice caterpillar, though.

The queens look cool. The Queen of Hearts having an over sized head will be weird. Is it a reference to the characters on cards? Do they sometimes have big heads?

The Cheshire Cat’s smile is awesome. And I think I’m scared of Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum.

Zondag 15 nov zijn we met Jola, Odin en Mac naar een workshop treibball geweest. We hebben er enorm van genoten. Ik stond ervan te kijken hoe snel Odin leert. Nog sneller dan Mac en Jola terwijl hij nog geen half jaar oud is. De workshop duurde erg lang maar Odin heeft het bijna de hele tijd volgehouden met aandacht! Ik ben trots. Dit was zeker voor herhaling vatbaar, we hebben ook zo’n mooie bal mee naar huis genomen dus kunnen we flink gaan oefenen. Leuk vinden de doggy’s het in ieder geval.

Onze foto’s waren helaas allemaal mislukt ik heb wel een paar filmpjes die ook het kijken waard zijn. Hopelijk komen er nog wat foto’s van andere bij die nog op de site van de club komen.

Odin out

Odin vind dat hij bij alle bekende honden zijn plek even moet duidelijk maken. Mac vooral die staat inmiddels al onderaan de ladder. Maar volet zich hier helemaal prima mee. Odin gaat bij iedere kans die hij krijgt boven Jola of Mac staan. Legt de hele dag lang zijn kop in hun nek. Wil er ook op maar probeert dit met zijn nekspieren (geen gezicht) en zo gaat dat niet natuurlijk afzetten met achtepoten…. nee daar heeft ie nog niet van gehoord. Daarstraks ging Odin boven Ma staan die lag op de grond. Mijn zus en ik stonden er gezellig naar te kijken en Ma dacht hey leuk aandacht! Waardoor hij opstond. Odin is nog net niet groot genoeg en dus hing hij over Mac heen terwijl Mac gewoon ging lopen bleef Odin daar lekker hangen. Allebei keken ze erbij alsof het de normaalste zaak van de wereld was. Ik moest zo hard lachen dat ik helemaal vergeten ben om er een foto van te maken. De rest van de keren worden Odin rangorde bepalingen beantwoord met spel hieronder een aantal foto’s van ons gezellige duo:

Tonight, Eugene is experiencing high winds, gusting up to 40 mph–much higher than what’s usual here. (In fact, the blustery gale-force winter winds are one of the things I’ve missed about the east coast.) We became aware of this after having watched a couple of episodes of Dr. Who (my winding-down period after a long day at my mundane job), at which point the roaring of the wind outside became progressively more insistent and harder to ignore.  It sounded like ocean waves pounding the front steps of the house.

I went to the back door to look out, and all of our deck furniture had been overturned.  The umbrella was lying halfway across the yard. I went out to close the umbrella so it wouldn’t get blown around even more, and started laughing uncontrollably, the wind making me giddy. Despite the fact that I tripped and hurt my knee on the deck in the course of getting back into the house, I decided that I had to go sit outside on the deck for a while. So I did, putting on my poncho and talking a glass of red wine to toast the Hunt with (and leaving the porch light off to avoid disturbing our neighbor).

It had occurred to me, a few days ago, that tonight was the new moon, but I’d had nothing specific planned. Yet how much more perfect an observance could there be, for me, than welcoming the Hunt as it rode into town? I sat and opened myself, pledging myself once again as Their Gate into the physical world, while the giants who live in the trees sang and roared and danced in the wind, and the wind played with my hair. I toasted the Hunt and their Leader, and–at Odin’s insistence–myself as Their Gate, and then poured out the rest of the wine as a libation on the grass. I sat there, head tilted back, arms spread wide, feeling  the wind sweep over me and through me.

And then I heard it, high above: hunting horns, coming from everywhere and nowhere. And the thin piping of flutes, mingled with with the raspier sound of pan-pipes and the steady rhythm of drums. The music of the Hunt–ghostly, haunting music–heard with my physical ears (or at least, so it seemed to me)…even though it wasn’t physically there at all.  (I went upstairs afterwards and opened the bedroom window to see if I could still hear it…but the moment had passed.)

I have fought and I have dragged my feet, and I’ve been complaining the past few days that I haven’t felt like I’ve made much progress at all since Hallows…But tonight I know it: this is the year everything changes for me. This is the end of one seven-year cycle (in December, I will have been married to Odin for seven years, so far) and the beginning of another. This year, I can finally begin to see all of the groundwork laid over the past seven years, and the path that has been laid, shimmering, beneath my feet. The work isn’t done–I still have to walk the path–but this year, things reach a whole new level.

More to come in the next few days about the future direction of this blog (including a name change).

A friend forwarded me the link to this post.  Apparently, two months ago someone found a silver figurine of a person seated on a high seat surrounded by raven-and-wolf trappings and identified the piece as Odin…until someone else pointed out that the figure is wearing a dress and a necklace–in other words, obviously female.  A new ID of Freyja has been suggested, though for the record, my vote is that it depicts Frigga instead.  Grimnisal specifically states that She was the only one allowed to sit at Hlidsjalf besides Odin Himself–and if this is Her, how exciting, since there are so few images associated with Her, either ancient or modern.

(Yes, I know, in Skirnismal Freyr sits at Hlidskjalf–but He isn’t “officially” allowed to, even in the context of that lay, and positing Freyr would fly in the face of the conclusion that the figure is female.  I know the theory that this is Odin-in-drag will have its proponents too, but I’m sorry, I refuse to believe that the definition of ergi is that stupidly simplistic.  And Freyja is never mentioned, ever, as sitting in Odin’s high seat, which is what the raven-and-wolf trappings make pretty clear this is.)

Of course, it could just be depicting a regular human seidrhkona.  In that case though, this is clearly an Odin’s seidhrkona…which is just as exciting, from my point of view.
