La diseñadora madrileña Ágatha Ruiz de la Prada causó admiración por su compromiso con la ecología, y nos hizo quererla aún más cuando declaró su amor por Chile y lo mucho que cambió su vida luego de la primera visita que hizo hace algunos años. Todo esto en marco del lanzamiento de su nuevo perfume Oh La La.

Pero lo que la trae a Chile no es una simple visita de rigor, más bien es por motivos personales, para festejar nuestro bicentenario, vino a inaugurar este sábado 24 de octubre un mural de 364 m2 ubicado en la fachada de la estación del metro Bellas Artes, la diseñadora comentó que espera y desea que la gente sonría cuando pase por el lugar y mire su mural.

Entre sus actividades en nuestro país participó en una ceremonia de donación de la “Beca de Arte, Ágatha Ruiz de la Prada” a la Universidad del Desarrollo, y un workshop con artistas emergentes, en el Barrio Lastarria.

Oh lá lá! es un céntrico bar de copas, localizado al lado de la popular iglesia de Santiago de Vigo, es un local impresionante por sus dimensiones y, sobre todo, por la profundidad que le proporcionan la altura de sus techos. Con una magnifica decoración, muy elaborada, sirve de punto de encuentro para un público divertido que puede disfrutar plácidamente de la conversación o entregarse al baile que propone el dj’s de turno.

Para los que ya no somos unos niños, ni tampoco unos carrocillas ( o sea , que estamos en un limbo raro) es el local ideal. Mon Dieu!  C’est déjà septembre!  Où le temps est-il allé?

Mon Dieu! Ma dernière note dans ce blog était au mois d’avril!  Oh là là!  Mais je suis heureux de dire que je a été très occupé cet été avec le travail et l’étude française.  J’ai un examen oral très bientôt (le 14 sept) puis j’irai en Syrie pour mes vacances avec mon mari – j’ai impatient d’y aller!

Après mes vacances dans le Moyen-Orient, j’aurai un autre examen le 13 octobre mais cette fois il sera l’examen écrit.  J’espère que je pourrai pratiquer de parler et écrire en français au cours de mon séjour en Syrie!

I can’t post a recipe tonight for the delicious cupcakes I baked for dessert but I can post a few photos and offer a description.

Strawberries are summer. They are the many varieties of jam Granny Norton made from the fruit harvested from their stony grey Monaghan soil. They are the sugary jam in the white porcelain jars my Granny Tyrrell used to make every summer before Wexford berries were less plentiful and her time less constrained. They taste like late night barbeques with cool wine and chargrilled burgers. They smell like the night moving in on a warm Midland’s evening, grabbing blankets from the house and talking about everything, anything and almost everyone.

I wish I could say that these berries are Irish. But they’re not. Like most other berries I see these days they’re Dutch. Grown in a greenhouse and unloved by the air outside. I’m becoming increasingly worried about where my food is coming from. Yes, I want fresh, new red onions but do I want them to arrive from New Zealand? Yes, I’m sort of keen on cherries but California? Really?

I wish I could reconcile all of my issues with shopping. I want to shop locally, really locally. I’d prefer not having to step inside an major supermarket chain unless necessary. I admire local shopkeepers and the courage it takes to remain competing in a market that is closing in on itself. But I want my food to come from somewhere closer to here, too. I want to know that each onion I chop doesn’t account for five times its weight in carbon emissions. It’s not easy, this conspicuous shopper business.

For now I’m avoiding the Peruvian asparagus and the Californian cherries. I’m searching out Irish grown fruit and vegetables and trying not to wince at the price difference.

My cupcakes are chocolate base, with vanilla buttercream frosting adorned with fresh strawberries tossed in vanilla sugar. They taste dark and light and fruity. They taste like my heart versus my mind, they taste like a battle of conscience.

Kemaren, tepatnya tanggal 5 Juli 2009, komunitas blog Bandung Blog Village ngerayain syukuran hari jadinya yang ketujuh. Syukuran tersebut diadain di Taman Hutan Raya Ir. H. Juanda, Dago. Syukuran tersebut diisi dengan acara potong kue, makan-makan, jalan-jalan ke Gua Jepang, perkenalan member baru dan yang ga mungkin ketinggalan, tentu aja, foto-foto! Hehehe.

Bagian yang menurut gw paling seru adalah pas kita ngerebutin doorprize dari Rendy dan dari Ayam . Untuk nentuin pemenangnya, maka diadain game tepuk tujuh. Dan ternyata, gw jadi salah satu dari tiga pemenangnya ! Gw dapet kaos dari Qwords, tempat HP ama pin Chickenstrip. Jangan pada ngiri yaaaa, hehe. Sebenernya sih pengen kaosnya, tapi pin juga lumayan lah, daripada lumanyun.

Setelah maen game, selanjutnya kita berpetualang ke Jepang, tapi guanya doang. Perjalanan ke Gua Jepang lamaaaaa banget. Bukan karena jauh, tapi karena tiap lima langkah, pasti aja ada photo session. Hahaha! Tentu aja, karena gegedugnya adalah teh Achil ama teh Rani.

Dan sambil nunggu keberangkatan para ekspatriat kembali ke Jakarta, kita ngadain lagi afterparty di Ciwalk . Tadinya sih mau nonton Ice Age, cuman takut keburu berangkat, jadi acara nontonnya diganti ama acara makan-makan. Pertamanya sih di J.Co, cuman gara-gara ga nemuin colokan, jadi pada pindah ke Oh La La. Disana kita nge upload foto ke Facebook sambil ngetag ampe pegel, hihihi.

I am on my last trip to Paris with my parents living there and it being officially home.  Therefore I am trying to embrace everything I love here, and focusing on how I can bring those things back into my United States life.  There are many things I associate with Paris, and many images/sounds/stereotypes that pop into my head when I think of Paris/France/the french.  Georges Brassens perfectly fits one of those stereotypes.

Les Amoureux des Bancs Publics was one of the staple songs of my childhood.  My father, having lived in France for eight years in the 80s and being bilingual, has always admired Brassens’s impeccable enunciation of every part of every word in this song.  I grew to love it more after I moved away from Paris to begin university because of what it represented.  The song itself, its lyrics, the way he sings in general is just utterly French: the Parisian lovers PDA-ing in le parc, the older French women who give those lovers judmental looks.  You can almost hear him smoking a cigarette (truth be told he always used a pipe) with his magnifique mustache.  He has the most typical but beautiful way of pronouncing his words, and listening to this always puts me back in the smoky cafés, the glasses of red wine, cigarettes, snobby waiters, the chairs and tables outside of restaurants, and the beauty of our city.  This is the rich part of French culture: the richness of food (two hours and plus for lunch), of art, of music, of life.  Paris was the place I discovered how to live richly, with feeling and effort into everything.  Being here, one cannot help but transform simple acts into indulgences. I have taken many things for granted by calling Paris my home (such as riding the metro, croissants, museums).  However, living richly prevents aimless walks, coffee after dinner, wine at every meal, and countless other daily activities from ever becoming mundane.

Be French for a night: put on a striped shirt, pour a glass of wine, spread some cheese on a slice of bread, brew coffee, and listen to Georges Brassens.  Be this stereotype for a few minutes and discover how wonderful it is.

I går vart eg dratt opp av senga litt vel tidleg av mi co – locatrice for å få med meg 1. mai demonstrasjonen. Me troppa opp nesten presis. Men det var sjølvsagt ikkje naudsynt då franskmenna har ein tendens til å vera seint ute til alt. Då det endeleg byrja å flytta på seg var det både studentar og foreldre med ungane sine på slep å sjå. På slep er nok eit litt misvisande uttrykk i denne samanhengen då fleire av ungane ivrig delte ut brosjyrar for alt som foreldra deira protesterte mot. Me deltok fyrst i studentane sin del av demonstrasjonen, som gjekk frå universitetet og ned til sentrum, der me hang oss på alle dei andre 15 000 menneskja som hadde møtt opp. Må innrømma at eg nesten var litt skuffa over oppmøte til studentane. Men det kan ha noko med å gjera at dei byrjar å verta lei av å gå i demonstrasjon ettersom dei har gjort det nesten kvar dag dei tre siste månadane. I sentrum var det full 17. mai stemning, med haugevis av folk i godt humør som helste på andre menneskjer dei ikkje har sett sidan i fjor. Det kom herleg diskomusikk ut av høgtalarane ( noko som førte til at me ikkje høyrte diverse talar) og det einaste som mangla var bunadar og is. Nasjonalsongen vart songen i form av ”Internasjonalen” og det var god stemning blant alle dei ulike parti – og fagforeiningsfanene. I staden for ”Kløve Skule det er oss” – ropet gjekk det meir i ”assez, assez, assez cette société” ( me har fått nok av dette samfunnet). Godeste Sarkozy fekk sjølvsagt gjennomgå ein del, men det gjenstår å sjå om han faktisk tar noko av det til seg.

I had to post this…So singer/model  Cassie has decided to shave half of her head…Honestly, I dont know why artists do this, I guess it’s a new PR move.  I am not really feeling this hair style at all…I usually like Cassie’s fashion sense because her style is edgy with a nice feminine touch…however, when it comes to Hair it can break or make an outfit!!!!  So, Do you Loveit or Hate it?
