Though it was cold outside Essex Arena Tuesday night, such was definitely not the in case inside. Indeed, it was a very heated battle between Essex County’s two powerhouse Junior C franchises as the visiting Belle River Canadiens took on the hometown Essex 73s.

From the get-go there was an intense atmosphere – much like one would expect in the playoffs. The place was nearly sold out, the players were flying, and the men in black and white were the target of several verbal taunts. Old time hockey in a new time building.

” It’s the battle for first place so that has a huge impact on the game,” explained Canadiens forward Brett Hickey. “We want to be the team on top and so do they.  We’re both battling to be the team to beat.”

“Also, you got friendly rivalries, most of the players on both teams know each other from minor hockey or other leagues so you’re always trying a little harder to out-do them. This alone makes the game more competitive.”

And competitive it was. Both teams took turns with the lead, both ran into penalty trouble, both suffered from occasional defensive miscues, and both ‘tenders recorded stellar saves.

So when 60 minutes solved nothing, overtime was needed. And when the extra frame had expired the game that couldn’t get any better did – with a shootout.

Hickey says shootouts – under the watchful eye of a loud and raucous crowd – can be nerve-wracking. “You definitely hear the boos going into your shootout shot, so you get nervous because you know that if you miss they will be all over you,” admitted Hickey. “But if you score you’ll shut them up and they’ll have nothing to say to you.”

Hickey did just that scoring on his attempt; so too did teammate Justin Brown. Unfortunately for the Canadiens though, all three 73s shooters also scored.

“Our shooters did an unbelievable job in the situation they were put in,” said 73s defender Anthony Iaquinta. “They were calm and relaxed and simply did what they always find a way to do…score goals.”

With the win, the Essex 73s take over top spot at the Christmas Break. It’s a spot Iaquinta hopes his team can hang onto for the balance of the season.

“As rewarding as it is right now, we realize how good of a team the Belle Rivers, Wheatleys and Wallaceburgs are, and how important the rest of the season really is for determining who gets first place.”

The stairwells used to be open with marble stairs, in fact, they still are in the back staircase, and I’ll have to take photos of that sometime. Ohhh, I know, I’m sooo exciting.

Eric Noel

They scored early and they scored often. And so it is that the LaSalle Vipers head into the Christmas break with a very impressive 7-0 win over a short-staffed Wheatfield Blades. Eric Noel led the way offensively for LaSalle with three goals and an assist.

Said Noel afterwards: “It felt great to get those 3 goals in our win. But, if it wasn’t for Turner and Baldwin who set me up, those goals wouldn’t have happened. They were a big key definitely to my success in helping the team pull off the victory.”

Veteran Connor Lyons faced fewer shots than usual, but stopped all of them just the same.

Waterloo’s relentless forecheck kept the Hurricanes on their heals most of the night and this created many scoring chances for the Siskins in their 4-2 win over the Guelph Thursday night at The Sleeman Centre.

Except for 10 minutes in the 2^nd period, the Siskins were aggressive in taking the play to the Hurricanes.  

If it wasn’t for the stellar goaltending by Chris McDougall who turned away 40 of 44 shots, the score of this game could have easily mirrored the score in their last outing when Waterloo beat Guelph 8-0.

In the opening period, Waterloo fired 24 shots at McDougall and jumped out to a 3-0 lead on goals by Scott Nagy, Ryan Dilks and Andrew Csumrik.

Tyson Theaker pulled the Hurricanes within 2 with a goal 17 seconds into the second period.

Waterloo’s Tony Blyde restored the Siskin’s 3 goal lead 2 and a half minutes later.

The score stayed 4-1 until Peter Soligo scored on shot from the point after Siskins goalie Will Sibley stopped Nic MacEachern and Mike McFarlane on a 2 on 0.

The Hurricanes pulled their goalie late in the game but couldn’t get another one past Sibley.

Final Score: Waterloo (now 18-5-0) 4, Guelph (now 8-16-2) 2

The Hurricanes take to the road for their next 2 games, Saturday in Cambridge and Sunday in Elmira.

Guelph’s next home game will be next Thursday December 3^rd against the league leading Brantford Golden Eagles. Game time is 7:45 pm.

1. 전 안드로이드 전문가가 아닙니다. 안드로이드라는 단어 듣고 들여다 보기 시작한 지 이제 겨우 갓 한 달 갓 넘은 초보입니다. 너무 어려운 질문 하기 없기.
2. 전 기술적인 백그라운드가 전혀 없습니다.  기술적으로 잘못 적은 것 있으면 알려주세요.

아이폰과 안드로이드의 전쟁은 이미 시작되었다.

지금 세상에 나와 있는 모든 스마트폰 중에서 가장 잘 만든 것은 아이폰입니다. 그것은 부인할 수 없는 사실입니다. 모토롤라의 드로이드가 잘 만들었다고 하나 아직은 아이폰에게 약간 밀리고 있다고 외신들은 전하고 있습니다.

개인적으로 ‘무조건’ 아이폰보다 안드로이드가 잘될 것이라 예상하지만, 지금 여기 적는 것은 ‘안드로이드가 왜 잘될까?’가 아니고 ‘왜 안드로이드가 잘 되었으면 좋겠는가?’에 대한 글입니다.

저는 다른 OS, 다른 제품들은 안중에 없습니다. Symbian, Windows Mobile, Bada, Limo, WebOS 전부 안될 것으로 생각합니다. 딱 하나 싸울 상대는 iPhone 밖에 없다고 생각합니다. 아이폰만 제끼면 만사형통, 무사태평일 것으로 봅니다. ^^

그럼 아이폰을 왜 지지하지 않느냐.

App 말고 (기술적으로) 더 할 수 있는 것이 있나?

아이폰이 시장을 지배하면 한국의 모바일 개발자들이 너무 가여울 것 같습니다. 할 수 있는 것이 그야말로 ‘App Store’에 내놓을 Application 만드는 것 말고 할 수 있는 것이 뭐가 있나요?
OS를 건드릴 수가 있습니까, UI를 건드릴 수가 있습니까, 아이폰 위에 얹을 수 있는 플랫폼을 만들 수 있습니까..

App말고 만들 수 있는 것은 주변기기와 App과 연동한 서비스 정도일진대, 둘다 개발자의 몫은 아닌 것 같고..

안드로이드로는 뭘 할 수 있냐고요? 다 할 수 있습니다. 맨 아래의 OS부터 해서 맨 상단의 App까지 모두 건드릴 수 있습니다.

할 수 있는 일이 줄어들지 않을까?

기업 전용 앱 만드는 것도 쉽지 않은 일입니다.
알려지지 않은 이야기지만 국내 굴지의 한 생명보험회사에서 보험설계사 업무용으로 아이폰을 일괄구입해서 지원하는 걸 검토했다가 사업 검토 후 철회한 적이 있죠.  기업의 업무시스템과 연동하기에 쉽지 않다라는 판단에서 그런 결정을 내린 것으로 압니다.

군사용 폰을 독자개발할 수도 있을 것이고, 여성분들을 위한 폰들을 독자개발 할 수도 있을 것입니다.

국수주의자라 할 지 모르겠으나

App Store에 올리면 30%를 애플이 가져갑니다. 안드로이드 마켓은 30%를 이통사가, 70%를 개발자가 가져갑니다. 전 외국으로 나가는 30% 아깝습니다. -.,-;;

우리나라에는 삼성, LG가 있습니다. 팬텍도 있고, SK텔레시스도 있습니다. 저는 이 회사 다들 잘 됐으면 좋겠습니다.
제가 지금 블랙베리에 아이폰만 들고 다니는 이유는 그들이 내가 원하는 멋진 스마트폰을 내놓지 못해서이지 그들이 미워서는 아닙니다. 국내휴대폰 제조사가 애플보다 좋은 제품을 내놓았으면 좋겠고 전 현재 안드로이드만이 대안이라 보고 있습니다. 더 좋은 제품 내놓으면 무조건 삽니다.

일단 이 정도입니다. 또 다른 이유들도 있을까요?

전 아이폰을 처음 본 순간 푹 빠졌었습니다. 지금도 어디 갈 때마다 항상 들고 다니지요. 명품이죠. 많은 사람들이 아이폰에 빠지는 이유에 대해서 잘 알고 있습니다. 저는 애플의 제품은 좋아하지만 그들의 철학은 좋아하지 않습니다. 처음부터 끝까지, HW부터 OS까지 자신들이 전부 통제해야 하며, 앱스토어에 등록되는 모든 SW들은 자신들이 등록해 줘야 등록이 가능하다는 그들의 일방적인 태도는 그리 마음에 들지 않습니다.

전 안드로이드를 지지합니다. 오픈소스 기반으로 무료로 배포되는, Open Handset Alliance의 협력으로 만들어 가고 있는 안드로이드를 지지합니다.

This week we are exhibiting with our distbributor, BlueStar, at the OHA (Ontario Health Assoc) show in Toronto, Canada.  With all the debates over healthcare, without a doubt, it can be concluded that it is truely an industry that embraces technology. Obviously, it must to continue the advancements in patient care, but it also embraces IT and automation for the workers on the back end.

EMR is one key example. Star has developed small printers specifically for the prescription end of EMR. The TSP800RX has been certified by the major EMR software companies for use with the various applications and wireless handheld devices. This allows doctors to wirelessly (or wired) send the patient’s prescription to a secure 4″ printer. The 4″ printer eliminates pharmacists trying to decipher a doctor’s handwriting as well as save papers compared to doctor offices using a traditional larger-sized laser printer.

Both local Junior B clubs split their week with one win and one loss. LaSalle now sits in sixth place in the Western Conference with 22 points. Leamington, meanwhile, finds itself in eighth place with 13 points through 24 games played.

The Vipers took out St. Mary’s on Wednesday by a final score of  5-4 in the shootout. “It was a battle that we were going to win” said forward Chris DiNatale, “We just had to break the slump we were in.” D.J. Turner and Drew Palmer were the offensive stars for LaSalle recording 4 and 3 points respectively. On Saturday night, however, the Vipers came out with the short end of the stick losing 7-6 in overtime to the last place Lambton Shores Predators. Said DiNatale: “Our team got into penalty trouble for the majority of the game. No matter how many shots we got, the momentum was always in their favour.”

From the Flyers’ point of view, Thursday brought defeat at the hands of the high-flying London Nationals. It was a rough game with more than seventy minutes in penalties being called. Saturday’s game story was altogether different thanks to goaltender Ryan Malinowski who stopped 56 of 59 shots to secure Leamington’s 4-3 win; a feat which earned him first star honours.

For the upcoming week, the Vipers host Strathroy on Wednesday and then hit road to face Sarnia on Thursday. The Flyers will also play a pair of games this week. First up is St. Mary’s at home on Thursday and then on to Strathroy for a Saturday night contest.

Chris MacDougall braces for the shot

According to the script, the Guelph Hurricanes were to earn their 8th victory of the season with a win over Kitchener. But unfortunately, someone forgot to inform the Dutchmen who defeated the Canes 5-3.

Kitchener jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first 4 minutes of the game.

They stretched that lead to 3-0 by the end of the first period.

The Hurricanes got one back in the second making it 3-1.

Each team exchanged a pair of goals in the 3rd, making it a 5-3 final.

Not only did the game feature several fights including a tilt where the Hurricanes Nic MacEachern (5-10 178lbs.) took on the Dutchmen’s Alex McCaffrey (6-3 246 lbs.) and held his own.

But the game also featured a scary scene where Dutchmen’s defenceman Brant Nicolson bolted out of the penalty box after a loose puck in the Hurricanes end lost an edge and fell ackwardly head first into the boards.

The trainers from both teams were quickly on the scene (which reminded me of the Rangers Ben Fanelli injury a couple of weeks ago).

Based on the fact that he hit his head the trainers and EMS staff were cautious and treated Brant as if he had a spinal injury.

The game was delayed 20 minutes as he was taken to hospital for further tests.

Although the game didn’t turn out as the script maker would have liked it to be, The Hurricanes made good on their promise by giving free tickets to an upcoming game to fans that purchased their tickets at the game.

The next Hurricanes game is Friday Nov. 20th when Guelph travels to Waterloo to take on the Siskins.

Then the following night, Saturday Nov. 21st the Hurricanes host the Stratford Cullitons. Game time is 7:30 pm at the Sleeman Centre.

Coming off a nice 4-3 road win in Strathroy Satuday night, the LaSalle Vipers wanted to put on a good show and a similar effort against the visiting – and league leading – London Nationals.

“Our game plan going into today’s game was to keep our play simple, to out work them through the entire 60 minutes, as well as staying disciplined.” said Vipers blueliner Mike Souligny. “Staying disciplined was a big factor for us, knowing that they are very effective on the power play.”

And, for forty minutes, they did. Up by two heading into the third period, the Vipers looked poised to close their weekend with a second consecutive win.

It wasn’t to be, however, as the Nationals forced overtime and eventually prevailed in the shootout handing LaSalle a 4-3 loss.

Said Souligny, “We were playing very defensive in order to maintain the lead but a few minor defensive breakdowns in our own end and some penalty trouble allowed them to pot 2 quick goals and send the game into overtime.”

D.J. Turner and Ryan Baldwin both netted two points in the defeat. Goaltender Connor Lyons stopped 35 of 38 shots; his record now stands at 11-8-1-1.

This week the Vipers have three games on tap including a home and home set with Leamington and a road game in Chatham.
