My deepest, sincerest BIGGEST apologies about the delay in this entry! Kinetic Gal was caught with stomach upset (very bad stomach upset) following the huge bout of parties over the weekends, resulting in which Kinetic Gal even with her mighty magic powers could not get out of the bed at all!

Anyway, I’ve recovered finally (hurray to the advanced medical sciences) so here i am to post about the behind the scenes for the filming on Friday!

As you would have known, Kinetic Gal was on the OKTO-Live program on the OK-to-Learn Segment to teach everyone some juggling skills! Unfortunately the timing was really short so we had to squeeze a lot of stuff in there! We had a few rehearsals before we went into the live shoot. As it was live, the atmosphere was pretty tense! We had to keep to the timing while make sure that everything went well.

Wai Kit and Sharda are really great to interact with and they are really a fun loving bunch of people! They are really quick learners too… Whereas most people would have trouble learning to release even the third ball, they had no trouble releasing AND catching three balls. BRAVO!

After this segment, they did a little challenge where they had me juggle eggs! Unbeknown to everyone, Wai Kit handed me a slightly cracked egg during the segment. That really had me sweating but, thankfully i managed to get it off!

Last part where i juggled blindfolded… they had me do balls instead of clubs as there was not enough time to introduce another set of juggling equipment!

Well, you might just have caught the trailer of yours truly while watching OKTO – the channel has a special focus on the kids and arts communities, and on User Generated Content (UGC). I’ll be appearing on OKTO’s oktoLIVE series 2, to teach everyone some juggling.. and of course, demonstrate the skill too!

It was pretty much a surprise when the producer for the program approached me and asked if i could do it. They thought it would be cool that Singapore’s only female magic juggler could teach some juggling on the show. And i thought so too! In fact, they told me they had originally intended for me to teach juggling + magic, but were worried that this being an invited guest segment, my appearing two times might not be appropriate. Oh wells!

The program starts from 630pm to 7pm on OKTO channel, and my part is somewhere nearer the ending of the program. I think they have some sms segment where you can send in sms-es to ask questions so do shoot if you have questions too! *grin* And of course, the host of the program, Wai Kit and Sharda will be learning how to juggle too… can they succeed?

Danny and Walter are two brothers who barely get along even while driving their parents to distraction as their older sister (Kristen Stewart) tries to ignore them. Despite their squabbling, the brothers manage cooperate enough to play an old mechanical board game named Zathura. However, after their first move, they find that the game has apparently flung them, their sister and their entire house into outer space. Furthermore, the brothers surmise the only way to return home is to finish the game. However with almost every move, new dangers arise as the siblings find themselves learning to cooperate in ways they never expected as they realize what they mean to each other.

Remember Christy Smith from yesterday’s post? Well, today’s photograph is of his daughter, Zora. She’s a singer, a dancer and she also does movies. She’s currently featured on “One Minute of Fame” on Okto and will be singing in the finals this weekend. Be sure to watch the show. There will also be an interview taped by Media Corp which will be played at 11am on Saturday. Go Zora!!!

i just got these uber cute wire hooks on monday, and daddy just helped me drill them in earlier in the evening! yay!

finally i have a wall where i can hang stuff, and it’ll also be my “photography” corner for the clothes stash i need to clear!

Nicht-Wiener kennen Okto nicht. Die meisten Bundeshauptstädter vermutlich auch nicht. Und hätte mir im Herbst nicht Otto Tremetzberger (Freier Rundfunk Freistadt, Ex-Radio FRO) davon erzählt, wäre ich wohl nie auf die Idee gekommen, Okto zu recherchieren.

Was finde ich? Auf Okto läuft vieles. Nicht ungewöhnlich für Public Access TV. Gemischtmedienladen. [Hier allerdings, zugegeben, auf gutem Niveau.] Doch dann stolpere ich über Al Bird Gores ”Österreichfilm”-Serie der Sendung “Tempo Lectri“. Da hüpft mein Retroiker-Herz.

Auf Flohmärkten zusammengesuchtes Super8-Filmmaterial, geschnitten zu Songs legendärer Wiener Bands. Den Start macht Novak’s Kapelle (1967 – 1980) mit “Hypodermic Needle”. Weiter geht’s mit The Meadows, Extrem, Worried Men Skiffle Group, The Hubbubs, The Tramps und Molto Brutto. Vom Feinsten. – Doch genieße selbst:

Dear OKTO,

I absolutely love the new channel. Yes, the whistling may be a tad annoying but you’ll get used to it after awhile. Besides, the programmes make up for it.  Life with Derek tops my list because gawd, Michael Seater is SO hawt. And iCarly is really quite intellectually stimulating (ahem.) Overall, great job on the 8pm and beyond programmes. Because they cater to people like me, people who-don’t-really-go-for-ben-10-but-who-really-misses-their-childhood-and-needs-a-serious-hormonal-injection. I would really like to applaud you for that awfully interesting documentary on virtual adultery the other night as well – I didn’t know such people existed. The opening specials were great. I especially adored Hoodwinked. One of the best animated films I’ve ever watched.

The whiney host of hosts is really something. You really ought to get new faces. I mean, okay sure. We are sick of Kim already. No offence, she’s bubbly and all but she’s been with the programme ever since the 18th century. WE NEED NEW PEOPLE! Of course, I’m always willing to help out. But unfortunately, I’m subject to availability.

That is all I have to say. I just thought I’ll let you guys know. And beef up on the oktoriginals. They are a tad boring.

Second in my mini-Oktoberfest-off is Widmer Brothers Okto Oktoberfest.  This hearty ale has a good mix of malt and hop, coming in a bit heavier on the hop side than the previous contender, Samuel Adams Octoberfest.  This isn’t necessarily a bad thing… just a matter of taste.  Definitely more of a meal, Okto has a similar head, darker color and heavier body than Sam Adams.  It does have a smoother finish, although no more complex.  It actually leaves you with a relatively moist feeling in your mouth, not taking that with you as it falls into your gut.

Overall a beer that is well put together but the final, full package just doesn’t really do it for me.  Certain parts are good to great but others are not fully developed yet and so I have to give this one a Middle of the Road.  In this mini-Oktoberfest-off, Sam Adams comes out the winner in my book.

Singapore, 25 August 2008: This ‘oktober’, viewers in Singapore will get another Free-To-Air TV channel offered by MediaCorp to catch their favourite programmes. okto will begin transmission on Sunday, 19 October 2008.

Okto represents the number ‘8′ in Greek, and will broadcast 105 hours of programming each week, a leap from its predecessor, Central. Hoping to retain the strength of Central’s programming, the channel will showcase documentaries with world acclaimed films, and also showcase new anime series never seen before on Central.

Viewers can start tuning in from Friday, 19 September onwards. Details on how to tune-in will be shown on the various MediaCorp platforms as well as on the website www.okto.sg.
