Eco dalle Città pubblica il rapporto ambientale contenuto nella vittoriosa candidatura di Rio de Janeiro per le Olimpiadi 2016.
Ad un’analisi della situazione attuale della zona della metropoli Brasiliana si aggiungono progetti per la gestione ambientale dell’evento.

Si va dall’utilizzo del bioetanolo come combustibile per i mezzi “olimpici” (con sensibile diminuzione delle emissioni di gas serra), al rispetto dei principi di bioarchitettura e di risparmio energetico nella costruzione dei nuovi edifici necessari, alla selezione degli sponsor in base a principi di eco-sostenibilità, ad un piano completo per la mobilità durante la grande kermesse sportiva.

Rio de Janeiro a câştigat cursa pentru găzduirea Olimpiadei din 2016, învingând capitala Spaniei, Madrid, în ultima rundă a votului. Aceasta va fi pentru prima oară când Jocurile Olimpice vor fi organizate în America de Sud.

Aproape 50.000 de oameni au primit cu maxim entuziasm ştirea pe plaja din Copacabana. Oamenii au început să sară în sus de bucurie şi să aplaude, într-o atmosferă de carnaval. Petrecerea este de aşteptat să continue toată noaptea, iar oficialii estimează că vor ieşi pe străzi peste 100.000 de oameni.

Preşedintele brazilian Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva a declarat: “Cred sincer că este vremea Braziliei. Din cele mai puternice zece ţări din punct de vedere economic, Brazilia este singura care nu a găzduit Olimpiada sau Jocurile Paralimpice”.

Protams, ja bmx freestyle tiktu iekļauts Olimpiskajās spēlēs, tas paceltu šo sporta veidu augstākā līmenī un vairs nebūtu tik nievājoša attieksme, ko esmu dzirdējis no dažiem indivīdiem, ka šis sporta veids nav nekas vairāk kā, citēju – “sētas aizpagalma gala NEsports”.

At the closure ceremony of the Beijing Olimpic Games, we saw how London was introduced as the organizer of the next Olimpic Games through a show in which we watched some of the stereotypes related to the city, one of them being the typical two-stages bus. In this act, several people run to get on the bus, even running over a man in a wheelchair. That’s politeness! Is this was the time to show the best of them and they treated a disabled man like that, how bad could it be in reality?

Me puse a buscar a ver si había algún comercial para promocionar Londres 2012 y me encontré con el logo que se va a utilizar.

Honestamente me parece más un logo de un concierto de rock que unas olimpíadas. Las tipografías poco claras, los colores, es como que generan un ruido que no termina de transmitir, amistad, deporte, compañerismo, competencia.

No se… no soy un especialista del tema pero no me gusto

Vuelvo de vacaciones y como era de esperar tras el ”paro biológico” veraniego encuentro el buzón del reader con un montón de noticias y artículos muy interesantes que me apetecería comentar y que iré haciendo poco a poco en cuanto vaya aterrizando.

Uno de los temas del verano, como es lógico, ha sido la celebración de los Juegos Olímpicos de Beijing. Quienes seguís este blog (tengo que agradeceros a todos vuestra fidelidad) sabéis que es un tema que me atrae particularmente y al que suelo dedicarle mucha atención. Justo es por ello que le dedique esta primera entrada postvacacional.

Personalmente los Juegos de Beijing me han parecido extraordinarios. La organización ha estado a una gran altura, cosa que era de prever porque el gobierno chino no ha ocultado nunca su interés en utilizarlos como un escaparate para dar al mundo una imagen de modernidad y capacidad organizativa. A esta buena imagen ha contribuido también el acierto de los recintos deportivos contruidos para el evento. El “Nido de Pájaro”, el “Cubo de Agua” o el Velódromo han maravillado al mundo por su majestuosidad y su vanguardismo. Además, el nivel deportivo ha sido impresionante, con dos figuras que han destacado sobre el resto: el estadounidense Michael Phelps (ocho oros y siete récords del mundo en natación) y el atleta jamaicano Usain Bolt (tres oros y sendos récords mundiales en 100, 200 y relevos 4×100).

Claro que no todo ha sido positivo. En el debe de estos Juegos de Beijing quedará el lógico desencanto de quienes pusimos (me incluyo; qué le voy a hacer, uno que es ingenuo) excesivas ilusiones en que su celebración supusiera un aperturismo democrático para China. Pronto el gobierno chino dejó claro que no iba a permitir ningún conato de apoyo a la causa tibetana poniendo en marcha una maquinaria de represión que abortó cualquier intento practicar durante los Juegos el peligroso ejercicio de la libertad de expresión. El otro aspecto negativo a mi juicio, y ya en el ámbito deportivo, ha sido la sombra, demasiado alargada por desgracia, del dopage y con él el intento de adulterar la competición. A los casos de dóping detectados y convenientemente sancionados hay que sumar las sospechas de dopaje generadas en algunos deportistas, en ocasiones con acusaciones veladas de los propios rivales.

Como es natural, a lo largo de estas últimas semanas se han prodigado en la blogosfera artículos muy interesantes sobre el tema de los Juegos Olímpicos de la Antigüedad y los Juegos Modernos y que me gustaría reseñar:

Para conocer aspectos relativos a los Juegos Olímpicos en la Antigüedad puede consultarse Ancient Olympics , un sitio en inglés muy interesante y con abundante información.

En Tropaion, un artículo de Nikolaos Markoulakis da pie a reflexionar sobre el hecho de si los Juegos Modernos respetan los principales ideales que han caracterizado desde siempre a los Juegos Olímpicos. La Declaración Olímpica proclama que “El Olimpismo es una filosofía de vida que exalta y combina equilibradamente las cualidades del cuerpo, la voluntad y la mente. Combinando el deporte con la cultura y la educación, el Olimpismo se propone crear un modo de vida basado en la alegría del esfuerzo, el valor educativo del buen ejemplo y el respeto de los principios éticos fundamentales universales”. A partir de esta declaración, júzguese si se cumple este espíritu en los juegos Modernos.

Aunque el tema no es nuevo, en Gilgamesh aprovechan la actualidad de los Juegos para traer a colación la hipótesis de las influencias de Mesopotamia sobre los orígenes de los Juegos Olímpicos griegos. El autor, David Chibo, afirma que los juegos arcaicos griegos fueron inspirados por la Epopeya de Gilgamesh y señala haber encontrado once paralelismos entre los concursos de atletismo orientales y griego. Así, se señalan como paralelismos las pruebas de atletismo celebradas, el ser en julio/agosto, el celebrarse en honor e los dioses, la adjudicación de coronas o el terminar con una victoria-banquete.

En Reuters puede leerse un artículo con un título muy sugerente y actual : Dopaje en los Juegos Olímpicos Antiguos. En él se sugiere que en la antigua Grecia y lejos de la imagen clasica de deportividad, los atletas en ocasiones recurrían a las trampas, al soborno a los rivales y a extrañas pociones para garantizar la victoria. De todo ello tratabamos recientemente en esta entrada. 

Por último, dos enlaces con temas curiosos sobre las Olimpiadas: Un artículo en Público donde se habla de las reminiscencias en la antigua Grecia de jabalinas, pértigas y discos y se señala el origen del caballo con arcos en los ejercicios militares de la época clásica, y una infografía en The New York Times sobre la evolución de las antorchas utilizadas en los Juegos Olímpicos Modernos.

Para terminar, una pregunta:  ¿Quién aparece representada en las medallas que se han entregado en Beijing y sobre qué estadio aparece?. Comprueba aquí si has acertado.

Kyle Bennett of Conroe suffered a dislocated left shoulder in a multi-rider crash on the first turn of Wednesday morning’s (Tuesday night CDT) BMX cycling quarterfinals, but he was able to ride his bike off the track and qualified for the semifinals Thursday morning.

A USA Cycling spokesman said team medical personnel were able to put Bennett’s injured shoulder back in place. He was taken to the track medical center for treatment for cuts and scrapes, but he is expected to be able to race in Thursday’s (Wednesday night CDT) semifinals.

Alicia Sacramone, Olympic gymnast, may have taken most of the blame for Tuesday night’s loss to China after two notable screw-ups.

Yet Sacramone has gained a legion of new fans, apparently not for her athletic talents but for her looks. Call it the Anna Kournikova effect.

The flexible athlete spent much of Tuesday’s NBC broadcast in the spotlight, though not for the proudest reasons, and viewers took notice.

Immediately after the women’s gymnastics competition, the phrase “Alicia Sacramone is hot” shot to No. 1 on Google’s hot trends list. Hordes of web surfers scoured the depths of Google for information on and photos of the athlete. (Psst! Right over here.)

Facebook groups sprang up overnight for fans ogling the Olympian. One was created Wednesday morning around 10 a.m. and has already netted 400 members. Group creator Tyler Herrick, a student at the University of Maryland, wrote on the message board: “Dont worry fellas ill put some pictures of her up when i get home from work. So you can imagine whatever dream youve got going there.” Later, he made good on his promise.

Existing Facebook groups saw increased activity as well. The Alicia Sacramone Fan Club has more than 5,300 members, gaining 1,000 recruits since Wednesday, and experienced a jolt of activity on its message board. A similar effect took place on her official fan page. And there’s hope for those who may have written off gymnasts as potential mates after seeing the baby-faced Chinese competitors. The description for “Guys (or Gals) with the hots for Alicia Sacramone,” a clear competitor to Herrick’s Facebook group, reads: “SHE’S 20, so she’s not jailbait!”

Outside the social networking realm, the Alicia Sacramone’s Fan Site servers seem to be getting hit pretty hard. Pages were taking considerably longer to load Wednesday than they did Tuesday night when some of us were looking for pictures of … uh, never mind.

A YouTube video of the gymnast, who’s been garnering loads of media attention for being “hot,” has surfaced of Sacramone delivering a knock out of left hook to a fellow Brown University student, who appears to have asked for it.

I would like to say congratulations for Indonesia Badminton double men’s pair, Markis Kido and Hendra Setiawan for their achievement in Beijing 2008 Olimpic Games. Because of them our nation get the first gold medal in Beijing 2008 Olimpic Games.

In final match, Markis Kido/Hendra Setiawan beats China double men’s pair Cai Yun/Fu Haifeng in three sets 12-21, 21-11, 21-16. Lose in first set Kido/Setiawan revived in the next two sets and won the final match against Cai/Fu.

This victory is special, because a day later -August 17, 2008- is the independence day of Indonesia. So I think Kido and Setiawan has gift our nation special reward (first gold medal for Indonesia team in Olimpic 2008). Although now I am rarely play badminton (or maybe just ‘never play Badminton again’) but I am still Badminton fans, especially for Indonesia team.

I hope this is not the only one gold medal for Indonesia in this Olimpic Games. Once again, congratulations for Kido/Setiawan and keep fighting guys!

Può lo Sport superare gli ostacoli politici ed ideologici?

   Venerdì 8 Agosto 2008. Finalmente è arrivato il giorno tanto atteso.

     Mesi e mesi di preparativi, polemiche, contestazioni, minacce di boicottaggio hanno preceduto l’inizio di questa nobile manifestazione del genere umano. Ma alla fine lo sport ha vinto e ha trionfato su tutte le opinioni politiche e non, che hanno tentato di avvelenare il clima del grandioso evento mondiale.

   La scelta di Pechino come sede delle Olimpiadi non è piaciuta a tanti e le motivazioni addotte sono tutte riconducibili al mancato rispetto dei diritti umani che ancora vige in quel grande Paese.

E’ vero. La Cina deve ancora dimostrare che insieme al processo di progresso economico, tanto efficacemente avviato, sta lavorando anche ad una revisione democratica dei diritti sociali e umani.

Il resto del mondo civile, ora più di prima, sta osservando con attenzione i fenomeni di trasformazione che stanno interessando il grande popolo cinese.

  La vetrina delle Olimpiadi, così meticolosamente e onerosamente preparata, si trasformerà in una clamorosa debacle se il Governo di quell’immenso Paese ricco di storia e tradizioni non darà subito dei chiari, efficaci e duraturi segnali di cambiamento.

Libertà e diritti sociali simili a quelli di cui godono, per fortuna, tanti di quegli atleti che in questi giorni si confrontano e vivono fianco a fianco coi loro colleghi cinesi.

  Abbiamo assistito ad un fantasmagorico spettacolo di apertura. La storia e le tradizioni cinesi sono ricche e chi ha avuto la possibilità di visitare la Cina, lo sa bene.

E’ veramente inaccettabile che un popolo con un passato così ricco debba continuare a subire gravi limitazioni dei suoi diritti.

Il pensiero di noi tutti va immediatamente ai fatti del Tibet.

  Ci auguriamo tutti che lo sport riesca a fare molto più di tanti trattati, embarghi ed interventi diplomatici.

Bisogna approfittare di questa grande vetrina delle Olimpiadi per strappare alle autorità cinesi dei precisi impegni per la concessione di tanti diritti negati.

Bisogna evitare che a riflettori spenti tutte le buone intenzioni finiscano nel dimenticatoio.

Tutti i potenti della terra, che hanno fatto bella mostra di sé durante la cerimonia di apertura dei giochi, devono adoperarsi per ottenere certezze dai loro colleghi cinesi e nei mesi a venire devono vigilare affinché vengano onorati gli impegni presi.

  Ci auguriamo che queste Olimpiadi ci regalino una valanga di nuovi record e risultati eccezionali, ma soprattutto ci auguriamo che vengano ricordati come i giochi che hanno aiutato il popolo cinese ad ottenere quei diritti e quella libertà per troppo tempo negati.
