Can’t believe you’ve not subscribed to our ITUNES PODCAST yet? Me neither. Right that wrong right now and CLICK HERE TO SUBCRIBE

After a quick hop across the pond to our new HQ of Berlin, we’ve been trying to catch up on all the cool stuff while brushing up on a bit of Deutsch. Needless to say, the Deutsch ain’t so good right now so we’ll stick to the cool stuff for the time being.

Anyway, onwards with the next in line of globally renowned EHP mix series, we’ve reached EHP009, mixed by young Danish producer, PAXTON FETTEL, whose productions are as clean and tasty as the fine-cut bacon exported from his homeland.

How and where was your mix recorded?
With ableton, I haven’t got a deck at home, which is sad but every time I have money for music related things, I end up spending them on gear for my studio instead, but it’s definitely on the wishlist. I would not consider my self a DJ, I am a producer, however I like DJing no matter how big a newbie I am.

Can you pick out some of your favourites and explain a little behind some of your choices?
With only 30 minutes every single track in this mix is a favourite.

The Kylie edit from norwegian Olle2000 is a fantastic track in my opinion, such a naughty take on that track.

Calveras remix of my own track I’m not turning back is one of a kind, really deep vibes and psyked out percussion. Not really sure if it will ever be released. This will probably forever be a rarity. But I just had to share it.

Soundstream. What can I say, he is brilliant. Same goes for 6th Borough Project & Mosaik. Lovely stuff.

Paxton Fettel is one of our favourite names for a producer, how did you come up with it? Is it related to the computer game?
Yea, I guess it is inspired by the brain feasting figure from the F.E.A.R. game. Basically because i think it sounds plain awesome.

How would you describe your sound?

It is really hard to describe my sound, I have no aim for a certain sound, it is just what I feel is right. For example Fitchpork which is the last track in the mix, is really a piece I like because it just came out of nothing. Just playing around with some synths, and suddently i had the whole track done. My sound varies a lot, and I like it that way.

There’s an incredible lightness of touch to your production style – soft horn stabs, airy piano, warm bass beats, nothing harsh sounding – is there a particular reason for this?

Well it’s a hard question, but I usually start with the melody if I wanna make a track that is driven by the melody and the chords. But if i wanna make a more housy dancefloor minded track, I usually start with the kick and the bass. That being said, I have no rules and everything can come from nothing, but basically it’s all about getting a good idea, which can come when I’m on the bus, listening to other music or while browsing through my sample library.

What else can we expect to hear from you in 2012?
Some remixes coming out really soon, and then a release on Liebe * Detail later this summer, which I am really looking forward to. I am, as always, working on new stuff and experimenting with sounds and production techniques.
