Apparently, today is the most important day of the year for females in America: The opening of New M

Apparently, today is the most important day of the year for females in America: The opening of New Moon, the second movie in the Twilight franchise.

Sadly, I actually had a moment where I was watching a commercial, and thought to myself “Whoa, this actually looks kind of cool.” I mean, it had guys turning into wolves and fighting vampires. On the surface that seems like a good basis for a movie. But then I realized that if adolescent (and well past adolescent) girls are so into this, the ass kicking scenes are probably a very minor part of the movie. If I were to watch the movie, I’d probably miss the cool scenes because I would have clawed my eyes out from all the dreck in between.

It’s kind of like if they marketed The Terminator as a great love story. Sure, the relationship between Kyle Reese and Sarah Conner is very touching, but if anyone went to see the movie to see a romantic drama, they would be quite surprised by what they ended up seeing.

It’s kind of like when they kept showing commercials for Marley and Me during football games last year. They were advertising it as a fun, guys movie. “Hey guys, you like Owen Wilson! Well he’s doing funny stuff and there’s a dog!” I’m just wondering if it’s possible for someone to make a movie based around a dog where the dog doesn’t die in the end? Aren’t movies with dogs supposed to be fun and uplifiting? So why do they always end on a sad note???

One good thing about the Twilight movies is that they have done a good job in bringing out the latent perviness of women. For years, women have criticized guys when they talk about how hot an underage actress is. Yet, all I hear my girl friends talking about now is how hot the guy in Twilight is, and how they wish he was of age. Girls, just know this is how guys felt about the Olsen twins back in the day. (Not me, of course. I find them both to be kind of repulsive. I imagine it’d be like f***ing a skeleton) And I want you all to keep this in mind the next time guys start discussing Miley Cyrus’ “Party in the USA” video. (This deserves a blog of it’s own. I mean, if this is considered wholesome entertainment for children, then I shudder to think what my kids will be watching)

Also, can any women out there explain to me why Robert Pattinson is considered hot? Apparently, being unattractive is now the standard for hotness in America? Makes me glad to be married since I apparently have no clue what women are after.

Anyway, I’m sure this movie is going to do great business. And remember, if you like the movie, you can also buy these related products:

The worst trend in writing

Reporting on celebrity fashion trends requires absolutely no knowledge of celebrities or designers.

Reporting on celebrity fashion trends requires absolutely no knowledge of celebrities or designers. Or at least if you write for Yahoo! Shine, knowing how to spell the names of celebrities and designers is purely optional. In fact, knowing how to spell anything is purely optional. Case in point: Shine’s feature “The Thread.”

The writer doesn’t bother spelling Angie Harmon’s name correctly:

A misplaced apostrophe is a relatively minor offense when it happens once:

But when it happens again, it’s bound to rile some readers:

Also? Using that to refer to real human beings isn’t considered wrong, just “impolite.” Omitting any kind of punctuation around a movie title (like “Twilight”) isn’t impolite; it’s just wrong.

Again ignoring the journalistic convention of correct spelling, the writer hacks up Leighton Meester. (Or maybe I should say, the hack hacks it up):

The pronoun them has no visible antecedent and using who’s instead of whose is the kind of mistake you might expect from a fourth grader.

If you’ve read this far, you shouldn’t be surprised by a missing word and a misspelling of Claire’s:

Let’s hope this is just a typo and that Amanda Peet wasn’t actually wearing Mischa Barton:

I’m not the only one who cares about good writing, you know. I think the Olsen twins might care about how their name is spelled:

Shoes like platforms are usually sold in pairs:

Betsey Johnson is one designer whose name doesn’t require spelling accuracy. Same goes for celeb Taylor Momsen:

As for the funky characters that appear to be two hyphens? God knows what that is supposed to be, though a period or semicolon would be correct.

No surprise here. Another punctuation problem: Lindsay Lohan needs an apostrophe and an S:

Is this a new trend in writing on Yahoo!? Or just an especially egregious example of a longstanding acceptance of horrible writing?

I could live in slouchy white tees every single day and still constantly be on the lookout for another star of the same family.

The Teamo tees for La Dama are très beau. Especially the Kate Moss handsketch; but of course I’m biased. Nothing Kate could go too bad, no?

The thing I like about slouchy tees is that you can wear them in whatever way you want, without giving too much thought into it. Seeing as how I practically live in my sizeable collection of leggings every single day, tees work right up my alley.

It’s also great on dreary London mornings when your brain doesn’t want to go into overdrive because it’s enough of a pain to have to roll yourself out of your warm bed.

Ingenious! Tee scarf ftw.

There’s also a Teamo twino version of the tee starring the Olsens. But it would have been cool if Baez had handsketched them as Michelle Tanner – I loved the Olsen duo best in those magic Full House years.

Now days been a celebrity is not enough. Many celebrities realized that by using their name and fame

Now days been a celebrity is not enough. Many celebrities realized that by using their name and fame is they can sale many products, with many of the opting for fashion. Here is a list of some of these celebrities who added to their resume fashion designers.

Jennifer Lopez-

Besides acting, singing and dancing she is also a fashion designer sense 2001. Honestly I’m not a big fan. Beside using real fur her cloths are not really my style. But you can always check it out at ShopJLo.com

Jessica Simpson

Jessica Simpson really knows how to branch her name. She has a shoe line, handbag line, make up line; sunglasses line even a hair line, just to name a few. OMG and actually her stuff are not bad at all. As a hand bag addict her bags are pretty good and cute and also are her shoes.

Beyonce

In 2004 Beyonce and her mother, Tina Knowels, started this fashion line called House of Dereon, later Beyonce and her sister Solange, created Dereon line, the more affordable line for younger people.

I do like House of Dereon line; it is the more high-end line of the 2 with many gorgeous dresses. As for Dereon… again not my style but you can check out both at houseofdereon.com and dereon.com.

Olsen Twins

There extremely rich girls added fashion to their resume. They started with their kids’ clothing line a HUGE hit. Now they are creating The Row, a high fashion line, as well as Elizabeth and James (named after their sister and brother), a more affordable options styling. I actually like both line, they are very simple but at the same time what makes it sophisticated. You can find them at Niemen Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman.

Gwen Stefani

In 2004 Gwen Stefan started the fashion line called L.A.M.B. (Love Angel Music Baby). She is definitively one of the most stylish musicians and luckily many of her collections reflect them. I L.O.V.E. this line!!!!! Is definitely funky but soooo cute. One of my favorites. You can find them at Nordstrom

Heidi Klum

She is the host/ head judge of one of my favorite shows “Project Runway”, oh and lets not forget she is also a supermodel. She has done a jewelry line for Mouawad, sandals for Birkenstocks and clothing for Jordache, not to mention working on the Victoria’s Secret lingerie line name after her “The Body” and a makeup line with her name.

Lauren Conrad, Lauren Conrad Collection and LC Lauren Conrad

Her first line, the Lauren Conrad Collection was not really big success, mostly because of the not so well made quality and very high price. This fall she is bringing a new more affordable line named LC Lauren Conrad. For the price they are not bad! You can find it at Kohl’s stores.

Nicole Richie

Every one notice how maternity changed Nicole Richie. She helped design a stylish maternity line called A Pea in the Pod. In 2008 she launched House of Harlow 1960; a line of 60s and 70s influenced jewelry. Recently she is adding a contemporary clothing line for babies and women. Both her clothing line and her jewelry line are extremely cute. It is a great option for pregnant women

Penelope Cruz

Here is something you might not know about Penelope Cruz, she has a twin sister name Monica ( <3). Here is another thing you might not know they both created a line of jewelry and handbags for the Japanese chain Samantha Thavasa. Later they created a clothing line for Spanish retailer Mango. Unfortunately I haven’t had the chance to see any of there merchandise so I honestly don’t have an opinion =(

Rachel Bilson, Edie Rose

Black, white and yellow are the colors of this line. In collaboration with DKNY Jeans, the actress’ line of mod dresses and menswear-inspired pieces. Named after her grandmother (Edie) and fiancé Hayden Christensen’s grandmother (Rose), the line was available in the junior’s department at major department stores. The line is very cute and very in style with today’s fashion

Victoria Beckham

One of my favorite fashionistas. The New York Times writes more than any other designer, Posh is “the personification of her brand.” Her dvb line is gorgeous and sophisticated and very in.

Whitney Port

Out of all “Hills” stars with a fashion line Whitney Port is definitively the one with the more sophisticated line. She created the Whitney Eve line of party dresses in 2008 with friend Adrienne Baravetto. She also has the more casual line Eve & A, featuring convertible dresses and jackets. The line is very girly and feminine… and I like it.
1987 was another big year in my life that I don’t remember a single moment of. It’s safe

1987 was another big year in my life that I don’t remember a single moment of. It’s safe to assume that I took my first steps and spoke my first word (duck) in ‘87. My brother, Scott, probably began implementing his 18+ year plan entitled “Kill (or seriously maim) Sarah” in this year as well.

Aside from these great strides, 1987 also saw the birth of the vast majority of my friends, Baby Jessica’s infamous well incident, and La Bamba was the biggest hit single of the year (it was pretty weak).

The stand-out of 1987, to me, was the beginning of the television series Full House. If you were born in the 1980’s you’re lying if you try to tell me that you never thoroughly enjoyed an episode of this fine Vin di Bona production.

I adored Stephanie’s mature policing of almost situation with, “How rude!” (and thought I was really cool because I owned at least 2 sweaters that she wore), and once D.J.’s hair calmed down she was totally the cool older sister I looked up to. My first celebrity crush was on Uncle Jesse (the only other is a current Kate Walsh obsession: I’d do her in a heartbeat and you would, too) and I dreamed that he was singing “Forever” to me.

I loved Full House. I watched it religiously as a child and I’ll still gladly watch it in syndication over half of the crap daytime television options. As a 6-year-old, there was nothing not to love about Kimmy Gibbler’s antics, Danny’s neurotic behavior, and Joey’s impressions. Besides, how could anything be cuter than this?:

Speaking of Michelle, she was probably the most noteworthy character on the show. Michelle is Mary-Kate & Ashley’s real claim to fame, and she spawned what can only be called an MK&A obsession in my life (and the life of every other girl my age). I wanted to be them. I wished I had been born a twin. I played Mary-Kate & Ashley games with my friends at recess and owned what can only be called a disgusting number of their Adventures home videos. I sang along with their sing along tapes, I wrote them letters, I would have thrown myself in front of a bus to meet them.

In hindsight, the obsession was out of line, and Full House really kind of sucked. But, it represents a kind of family sitcom that just doesn’t exist anymore. You could count on every problem to be solved within the half hour, complete with swelling music and a heartwarming lesson from Bob Saget. I was left with a false sense that everything would turn out okay, and that if it wasn’t okay, Joey would at least be there to make me laugh.

If you haven’t seen an episode in a while, why not give it a try?

Once scary, now stylish, skulls are trendy—and not just at Halloween
Skulls, once seen as sinister symbols, are now used on everything from children’s shirts to underwear. Sara Dickerman of Slate takes a look at how the trend developed:

In the 16th century, artists like Albrecht Dürer were still using skulls to remind people of their mortality.

French Pirate Emanuel Wynn was the first to use the skull-and-crossbones logo on his ship’s flag.

As skulls came to symbolize bravado, fighters—from US special operations to the Nazi SS—used them on uniforms.

Mourning jewelry was fashionable in the 19th century, and the “look” lived on thanks to bands like the Grateful Dead and Loree Rodkin, who launched a line of Goth jewelry in 1989.

Mexican art of smiling, dancing skulls, used to celebrate Dia de los Muertos, helped skulls become more widely accepted.

The skull became an icon in 1970s London counterculture, where Malcolm McLaren and Vivienne Westwood launched a series of skull-inspired punk gear.

Skulls became truly fashionable thanks to Alexander McQueen, whose scarves have been spotted on Kate Moss and the Olsen twins.

I was reluctant to write about Mary-Kate’s and Ashley’s collection for JCPenney. I agree

I was reluctant to write about Mary-Kate’s and Ashley’s collection for JCPenney. I agree with my friend Clare’s opinion regarding the new collection and the designers behind it. Clare stated the following, “Mary Kate and Ashley are forever making these lines of crap clothes. If I remember correctly they used to (or still do) have a clothing line at Wal Mart (or K Mart) or the something. However, these girls just commission cheap designers to make cheap clothes, slap their name on the tag, and then sell them to masses and make millions off of them. These girls have like 16 “clothing lines” but I doubt either one of them can sew on a button.” and I just couldn’t agree more. I can’t imagine trying to become a designer today. Or anything in a field that requires originality because celebrities have submerged themselves in every single industry. They’ve submerged themselves in to the music industry, acting industry, design industry and the modeling industry just to name a few. It’s getting so old.

Anways, the twins announced that they were designing a junior’s collection for JCPenney. The collection will be titled “Olsenboye” (that’s such a weird name!? but according to NYMag it’s their Norwegian ancestral name) and should hit stores nationwide in the upcoming months. Below are some photos of the twins at Union Square yesterday:

I’m sorry if I lack enthusiasm regarding this announcement.

Two of my personal favourite fashionistas, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, have announced that they will release a capsule collection of tween garb in collaboration with JC Penney on November 6th called Olsenboye. Judging from the video promo on their website Olsenboye.com the juniors collection will feature vintage inspired shoes, hats and accessories as well as casual wear like hoodies and loose-fitting tees outfitted with the Olsenboye logo (a peace sign). Prices will range from $20 – $50 US.

Though there aren’t any JC Penney’s in Canada yet, you can still order from the Olsenboye collection on their website starting November 6th.

Last night I had a really strange dream. Okay, so everybody has really strange dreams, but I’m going to tell you about this one. It was oddly vivid.

As with most dreams, as vivid as it may have been, I can only remember certain aspects of it. I remember it was set up like a movie… but it wasn’t so much as I was IN the movie, but more like I was the camera. Like, it was like I was watching it, but I was also THERE on the scene… does that make sense? Nobody interacted with me, though. I was just watching.

I remember Billy Bob Thornton. I guess he was the bad guy in the movie. I don’t even remember why. I also remember a little girl… I think it was one of the Olsen Twins, like Michelle from Full House. She was about that very young age, too. Young but smart. There were many others but I cannot remember them clearly enough. I remember a scene where the girl was in a room, and I think she was being held as a prisoner of some sort… or something… some kind of oppression. Billy Bob was in there, and he was yelling at her or maybe just talking, but it wasn’t nice. I’d say the strangest part was that he was totally naked. Yeah.. and you could see everything. I averted my eyes but it was like one of those surprise scenes in a movie where once you realize what’s on the screen and look away, it’s too late… you saw it. Scarred for life.

So there were many, many scenes in different places with lots of different people, but I only remember scenes where someone was trying to get the little girl to say something about that guy being naked in front of her, so as to get him in trouble with the authorities. It’s weird though, because for some reason she couldn’t just GO to the authorities, she could only talk to him and she’d have to say it when someone important was in the room listening. She’d have to say something like “I wonder what they would think if they knew you were in the room naked with me!” and then I guess someone would have to be like “OMG” and then he’d get in trouble or something. Anyway, eventually she did say something like that but unfortunately all of the other people in the room were his henchmen or something and didn’t care…

I also saw Will Smith and I was able to say hi to him but he was not a major part of this movie. He was just sitting at a table.

I think I should be careful what combination of meds I take before going to sleep.

Olsenboye: the Olsen Twins' first attempt at cross-dressing. by Mars Riley Some things you shoul

Olsenboye: the Olsen Twins' first attempt at cross-dressing.

by Mars Riley

Some things you should know about me: I am not a teenage girl. I rarely wear branded clothing. I do not shop at J.C. Penney. I dislike cupcakes. And I am not a fan of the Olsen Twins (Although, I do think one of them is kind of cute, but I’m not sure which one it is).

The reason I am pointing these things out is to make it clear that I am plainly not the demographic for the new Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen clothing line, Olsenboye. It’s all about girls, but we know what girls think about all the time so they got that word in there. Actually Olsenboye is apparently an olde Olsen family name and the immigration officer at Ellis Island probably dropped the -boye because it took another two seconds to write.

The “O” in the logo is a brush-stroked Aldermaston peace sign. But we’re not talking nuclear disarmament at J. C. Penney. It merely points to a “travel theme” with each season being inspired by the youth fashions of different cities from around the world.

“Mary-Kate and I watch current trends and see our partnership with J.C. Penney as an opportunity to add something unique to the marketplace,” says Ashley Olsen. The mix-and-match collection includes jeans, dresses, skirts, shorts, jackets, handbags, and shoes, and will retail from $20 – $50 with sizes ranging from 0 to 15.

“It’s very fun, fashion driven, trendy and wholesome at the same time,” Liz Sweeney, executive vice president of J.C. Penney, said. “It’s really important that Olsenboye serves lots of girls.”

Since the target demographic is “wholesome” girls, Olsenboye and J.C. Penney have geared their promotional campaign directly to them. This week in New York, they are promoting the brand with an Olsenboye “treat truck.” Customers will be able to be the first to purchase select merchandise and will receive a cupcake, balloon and pin. Oh My! They will then be asked to participate online by posting photos on the Olsenboye website of themselves in Olsenboye clothes. There will also be a huge push on FaceBook, Twitter and the jcp.com/teen website.

The Olsen girls get around. They had a line at Walmart that tanked, but they picked themselves up to sell two high-priced fashion lines, The Row and Elizabeth and James, to Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus, respectively. And to put the icing on the cake, they were recently inducted into the Council of Fashion Designers of America (a rare achievement for celebrity designers, the only other one being Diddy/Puff Daddy/P Diddy/Sean Combs/…). Way to go girls.

The time is fast approaching. It’s our annual night of party-hopping and candy-groping, and wouldn’t you know it? A virtual feast of dark treats and magical fashion suddenly appears right before our eyes! If you haven’t gotten your haunting ensemble pulled together yet, here are some images that might scare up some inspiration.

Lucky for us, the recent runways were full of dark fashion. Couture or costume? From zombies, vampires and ghostly spirits to a Gothic Alice in Wonderland, the looks were all represented:
