Liverpool FC are playing Debrecen tonight in the Champions League, and unfortunately, with our fate not anymore in our hands, we are unable to decide who goes through, and who goes out. Liverpool need a miracle to qualify, just like they needed a miracle against Olympiakos, but this is alot less ’simpler’. If we beat Debrecen tonight, Lyon have the fate to decide who will qualify. If Lyon lose against Fioreinta, then that’s it for Liverpool. We only have the UEFA Cup to play for. On the other hand, If Lyon win in Italy, there is still a chance of qualifying if we beat Fiorienta at Anfield.

With Liverpool struggling also in the Premier League, this may be a season to forget for all Liverpool fans.

Recently promoted Kavala’s impressive form in the Superleague has continued after they managed to get a late win against AEK. This win means that Kavala has managed to take points from each of the big three (a draw against Olympiakos in Karaiskaki and a home draw against PAO).

Though Kavala’s first goal came off of a penalty which was a clear dive and a few calls weren’t made in our favour, Kavala were clearly the better team. Even though we managed to hold on to possession for much of the game, we rarely managed to create any chances and most of our chances we did create came from free kicks or corners. Kavala was actually the exact opposite in fact. Every time they had the ball players would be making runs in every direction opening spaces and getting the ball dangerously close on a number of occasions.

Leonardo was terrible. I really hope we don’t see him play much more. I hate to say it, and I know he isn’t doing it on purpose, but he just can’t perform on the pitch. He does have some good ball control but his passes are absolutely terrible and ends up being an absolute waste of space on the pitch.

Gentzoglou was our best player yesterday, and while that wouldn’t necessarily mean much when he was surrounded by mediocre players at best he really was quite fantastic. Aside from scoring the goal for us (it seems our centrebacks are scoring more goals for us than our strikers) he made a critical and perfectly timed tackle from behind to stop the Kavala player from having an easy one on one with Saja (who was not playing his best today). The kid has massive potential and is improving each game (he is only 19 years old by the way).

Karabelas also had a good game again before having to come off for an injury and along with Gentzoglou he is improving every game.

As we are seeing every game now we missed some incredible chances but Kavala’s keeper was just to alert for us.

Its too bad really, I would have loved to see us beat Psomiadis’ team (just to remind you all, that is the a– h— that stole 12 million euros from us and should be in prison right now). Before the game he said he didn’t want to give AEK tickets because he was afraid we wouldn’t pay him back. He has a nerve, considering he is the reason we are where we are financially. In the end though (after Original threatened to buy regular tickets and sit with the Kavala fans) we finally got tickets for our supporters who made the long trip (over one thousand of them).

Really not much more can be said. We simply aren’t good enough. Though the referring was not the best, and though we missed some fantastic opportunities, Kavala were simply the better team.

We are still fifth, but that could change depending on what happens with the PAOK-Aris derby tonight.

Olympiakos were up 2-0 (away) against PAS Giannena but PAS managed to come from behind and ended up with a draw! Just one small thing that we can smile about this weekend

So, some news about the deal with Kozonis. During the week, someone (they are trying to find out who or at what level) released the papers to the press which stated all the details about the deal(the debts and any other information), even before Kozonis’ lawyers received it. Clearly, someone withing AEK is trying to prevent the deal from happening. Kozonis said he is still determined to get the team and make it a big team once again. Hopefully it will happen, but I won’t believe anything until I see it (though I still remain optimistic).

Ok, to be honest, I was expecting a loss for AEK here. Aris were considered favorites for this game and I think that’s somewhat justified. Bearing that in mind, I’ll take a draw here. Its never easy to win away against Aris, even on a good day.

I wasn’t able to watch the match since it was satellite. Hopefully one of the other members or one of our regular comment posters managed to watch it so we can get some more feedback.

I’ll try to say what I can based on the highlights below and what I’ve read on other sights.

So, this game apparently saw two different AEK teams. One, in the first half, which was utterly terrible (as if AEK wasn’t actually on the pitch) and one in the second half, which some claim was the best AEK all season (fine, not exactly a difficult title to earn, but pleasing nonetheless).

Aris’ first goal came early, in the fifth minuet. As you can all see, a simple principle of football, defense, was not applied therefore giving Aris a very simple goal to score. A common feature of any amateur team’s defense is having someone on either post, ready to clear any balls near there. While this may not be applied so often at professional levels, it is still common sense to have an eye on both the near post as well as the far post. On the Aris corner, the whole right side of the box is empty except Abreu. With no pressure, he barely even had to move his head to tap the ball in the net.

Like with a goal scored by PAO against Larissa a few weeks back, simply having someone marking in that area would have avoided the goal entirely, or at least reduced the chances of it scoring.

Saja, as is clear in the video, played a good game. How some can be calling him to leave the team is something I cannot understand. The first goal at the BATE game also was not his fault. With those conditions, it is likely the same would have happened to any keeper.

So, basing on what I heard, Aris were pressuring quite a bit the first half, while AEK was doing little.

Things changed in the second. AEK were suddenly dominating on the pitch. We had a number of chances (including a post from Blanco) but just couldn’t get the ball in the net (for anyone who say the Roma match today, the exact same happened, chance after chance, but the ball would not make it between the posts).

Scocco scored our goal, but apparently refused to pass on a number of occasions which could have led to goals and instead decided to shoot. Scocco is a great player, got MVP of the week last week, but we have to see him play more with the team. We all know he has great technical abilities, but we must win the game as a team. With players like Nemeth and Blanco waiting to score, there is no reason for him to be ignoring them.

Araujo played well from what I heard, but other than that, everyone else played an average game. Not bad I suppose, at least nobody played a particularily poor game.

PAO beat PAOK 2-1. Normally I would be cheering for PAOK at this one, but right now, I want PAO to be at the top, or anyone really, except Oly.

Speaking of Oly, they barely got away with a win yesterday, at their own home against Ergotelis, who have been impressive so far. Ergotelis went up first, but Oly tied it. Ergotelis then had a few incredible chances to score and take the lead, but failed to so. In the mean time, Olympiakos was playing some of the most boring, unimpressive football I’ve seen in years. Of course, as is typical, lucky Oly, they got a fluke goal, which had Daskalakis been more prepared for would have saved with ease.

So, tomorrow, an announcement is expected with regards to Kozonis becoming the new Owner of PAE AEK! His representatives are in Athens now looking through the financial books, making sure there aren’t any suprises, and it everything goes well, the deal will be sealed. I am confident this will be good for AEK in the end.

Hasil matchday ke-3 sangat mengejutkan. Hal ini semakin membuktikan bahwa bola itu (memang ) masih bundar dan dalam sepakbola… semuanya bisa terjadi!  Dan data statistik cuman berlaku diatas kertas saja, di lapangan… Si David pun bisa membantai Sang Goliath. Disitulah letak asyiknya sepakbola.

Apa hendak dikata, klub-klub mapan semacam Barcelona, Bayern Munchen, Real Madrid dan Liverpool  di matchday ke-3 ini harus menelan pil pahit. Sementara MU dan Juventus harus berjuang keras untuk memenangkan pertandingan. Hanya 1 goal yang bisa mereka lesakan ke gawang lawan-lawannya, yang notabene masih dibawah mereka kelasnya.

Inter Milan dan Arsenal cuman bisa bermain seri. Hanya Chelsea saja yang memperoleh hasil yang sangat meyakinkan.  4 goal yang mereka sarangkan ke gawang Atetico Madrid itupun sesungguhnya juga merupakan sebuah pencapaian yang sangat mengejutkan. Bahkan saiya rasa Ancelotti sendiri ndak bakalan nyangka kalau tanpa kehadiran Drogba di lapangan,timnya masih bisa menang dengan goal sebanyak itu. Lalu bagaimana dengan saiya…??

Terus terang saiya katakan bahwa saiya juga sangat terkejut dengan hasil yang ditorehkan oleh AC Milan. Kecompang-campingan tim besutan Leonardo yang  hanya bermodalkan pemain udzur plus seorang anak kemaren sore yang bernama Pato, ternyata mampu menenggelamkan Real Madrid di kandangnya sendiri. Hebat. Ndak nyangka saiya. Dan harus saiya akui kalau prediksi saiya kemaren salah total, khususnya dibagian yang mengatakan bahwa Real Madrid akan memenangkan pertandingan minimal dengan selisih dua goal.

Jahh…, ternyata bola itu memang masih bundar dan dalam sepakbola… semuanya bisa saja terjadi. Agaknya kedua mantra ini memang tidak boleh dilupakan setiap akan memprediksi sebuah pertandingan sepakbola. Dan disinilah letak kesalahan saiya.

Selamat buat para pendukung AC Milan, sampiyan semua memang layak untuk bersuka-cita.

Ennesima delusione europea per l’Inter. La squadra di Mourinho pareggia in casa per 2-2 contro la Dinamo Kiev di Andriy Shevchenko. Al 5’ ospiti subito in vantaggio: respinta goffa di Zanetti che fa carambolare la palla sui piedi di Mikhalik, il quale con un rasoterra infila Julio Cesar. L’Inter è in bambola, non riesce a reagire e rischia il tracollo quando Shevchenko manca il raddoppio con un colpo di testa che esce di poco. A dare la sveglia ci pensa ormai da un pò Stankovic al 35’: contropiede nerazzurro, uscita disperata del portiere e goal del centrocampista. Passano solo 5’ e Lucio sugli sviluppi di un corner va in goal con un colpo di testa: peccato che la porta è quella sbagliata. San Siro ammutolisce. Mourinho cambia le carte ed inserisce Suazo. Von Wafer made his return to the states and I just wanted to tell all you Rockets fans who fell in love with this guy last year that he is not even starting for Greek team Olympiakos. He had 11 points against the Spurs and he didn’t even get into the game against the Cavs!

Look, I’m not posting this to get at Von Wafer or to throw him under the bus for leaving for more money; I would’ve done the same thing. It’s just that I’ve been hearing a lot of people saying that “we” need him this year and “we” should have paid him. That’s absurd and I stick by my original statement that he will become a real basketball player while he’s over there, rather than a single-minded athlete. (The only thought being, of course, shooting the ball.) 

Just wait until he comes back – if he does – and you’ll see a new and much-improved Von Wafer.

 I know, I know. Shouldn’t have friends who support Utd. But they are good people, apart from the fact that they support Ferguson’s cronies. Honestly. And they’ve shown it haven’t they? If they heap praise themselves on our team’s performance, you know we are doing something right.

Hopefully those who speculate on Cesc’s Arsenal future will stop, for now at least. He didn’t even need to kiss the badge when he got the 4th Arsenal goal. Critics point out it was a fortunate volley. You what? How many times have you see a fortunate volley? For me his left foot cut across the ball, that is a valid technique and deserves much more credit than it received. It was also a fitting reward. Not content with supplying two, scoring one, he set up Theo (Oh look an ENGLISHMAN scores for Arsenal…) And look where he started it, from the edge of our defensive box, perhaps an example that Cesc’s ability to play box to box is underated.

Our finishing today was outstanding. Criticised for not being clinical enough against Olympiakos (even though we won by the most comfortable margin compared to the other British clubs in the CL), our finishing today was of the highest order. There wasn’t one scruffy Arsenal goal. And I include Cesc’s as well obviously.

Four left foot strikes, two off the right foot. We only needed a headed goal then, perhaps a diving header. Can’t be that greedy though, but it would have been nice.

The best left foot strike was Vermaelen’s easily. Not that Van Persie’s and Arshavin’s efforts are simplistic. They were very crisp finishes as well.  I rate this strike from Vermaelen more however, even compared to his left foot curler against Wigan. It woke every Arsenal fan in the stadium after our sluggish start.

You can blame Vermaelen for allowing Zonzi time to head the ball for the Rovers’ first goal, point the finger at Mannone’s positioning. But the main point was that we weren’t in gear to begin with. Until Vermaelen scored. And then against the run of play, Blackburn’s scored again. Their second was an optimistic, fortunate counter attack. Dunn’s finished the move, a deflection off Gallas.

I rate Dunn very highly and had he maintained a better fitness level he would have certainly made it at a bigger club. When he was subbed for McCarthy, another injury prone fella, I breathed a huge sigh of relief. You could say, Blackburn’s chance of getting anything from this game was Dunn and Dusted. Sorry. I had to bring that in!

Ironically, McCarthy himself got injured few minutes later. Farcical? Perhaps. Sympathetic? Certainly. We only need to look at our treatment room for some perspective.

Allardyce’s unholy alliance with Ferguson means I’m not a fan of him. And when he says “We haven’t got what we deserved”, he is wrong. Apart from the first half hour where Blackburn profited from our sluggish start, they had virtually contributed nothing towards the balance of the game. We pressed them constantly when they had the ball and used our possession well to create a heck of a lot more chances than them.

 The challenge on Dunn perhaps merited a penalty, but we always looked like scoring one more than Blackburn. They just didn’t have the water tight mentality of Allardyce’s Bolton team. Then again Arsenal are now familiar with Blackburn FC in general.

This was the third time in a row we’ve scored more than four in a game. And the 6-2 scoreline was a repeat of the 2006 match at the Emirates. Less than half of that squad for that game remain at Arsenal. The personnel changes,  but the sentiment of playing an entertaining brand of football remains.

Wenger timed his substitutions extremely well. All three who came on, performed impressively in their cameos. It was good to see Theo back, his goal was very well taken. He looked more stronger, confident and determined. Will be interesting to see how he develops. His pace is an asset we will need in many a match. Bendtner is always better as a sub anyway, he had the same drive as he normally does. He too looked determined to score, it seemed a day that had the game go on for 10 more minutes, I think even Clichy and Sagna would have had opportunities to score. Blackburn just caved in towards the end.

Ramsey’s cameo was very, very impressive. He is very much a Cesc clone when he is in the middle for me. Considering Denilson will miss two matches, I hope Ramsey is given a start in the odd game. Then again, it will be hard considering how well the 1st team performed today! 

Only Sagna didn’t start the game against Olympiakos. I was quite surprised at the lack of changes, perhaps Arsene didn’t want to break the harmony of the side that tore apart the Greeks. And 90 minutes later, how it showed. Even a couple of Utd supporting friends appreciated the Arsenal. And much of the credit should go to the symphony orchestrator Arsene, 13 years and counting. Football is definitely better for the fluent harmonious Arsenal sides you’ve produced.
