Popphoto.com (AKA Popular Photography) has a poll running right now for 2009’s best cameras.

I find it interesting that 2 out of the three cameras are a bit out of reach for most hobbyist. None the less, they are great camera s0 even if you can’t afford them.

The cheapest camera in the top three, the olympus E-P1 is a winner though, if your looking for a compact SLR. I currently use it myself. I do have some mixed feelings regarding that camera but you can’t help but notice its charm. Sometimes the auto settings work really well (better than many auto settings on cameras), able to pick up great detail is low light. And sometimes its sooo off that all photos turn to crap. There is a learning curve and I have seen some amazing photos from other people who really understand the camera and its settings.

The other cameras are the Canon EOS 7D, which has the BEST low light photos I’ve ever seen for a consumer grade camera, retailing for $1,700. And, the Nikon D3x, which just looks scary to me with its $7,600 price tag.

An so einer Kamerabörse war ich schon immer interessiert, konnte mich aber bisher nicht wirklich dazu bewegen da mal vorbeizuschauen. Heute war es soweit, ich besuchte die Kamerbörse in der Mensa der TU Darmstadt. Das erste was mir aufgefallen war, ist das Alter der Besucher. Meistens Männer in einem Alter ab 45-50 Jahre. Das Angebot war zu über 90% analoges Fotoequipment, von alten Rolleiflex über historische Kameras bis hin zu SLR-Gehäusen und Objektiven. Ich hatte eigentlich vor unter umständen eine Olympus Pen zu erstehen, es war aber nur ein Apparat in zweifelhaften Zustand vorhanden. Überhaupt waren Olympus Kameras nicht sehr zahlreich vertreten, meistens OM Gehäuse und insgesamt sehr wenige OM-Objektive. Für einen Fotogbegeisterten ist es natürlich interessant mal zu stöbern aber was wirklich Interessantes zu einem guten Preis habe ich dort nicht gefunden. Stark vertreten war dort auch die Leicafraktion. Also wer auf alte Leica M modelle steht, sollte dort mal vorbeischauen und vorher den Geldautomaten ausnehmen. Wenn man schon mal dort ist, kann man auch in der Mensa was essen, dachte ich. Allerdings war die Mahlzeit geschmacklich und ästhetisch etwas grenzwertig. Arme Studenten, hat mich an meine Uni-Zeit erinnert. Insgesamt gesehen ist so eine Kamerabörse eher was für Sammler und Analogfans.

Begini. Kamera digital gue yg mereknya Olympus ini sudah setahun belakangan nge-hang m’lulu. Makin lama nge-hangnya makin parah. Jadi setiap kali motret, error, tombol apapun gak bisa dipencet, dan gak bisa ke layar awal. Udah gitu ngabisin memory internal dan memory card.
Tadinya mau di-service, tapi katanya harus dibawa ke Jakarta dan baru bisa selesai 3 bulan kemudian. Wuiihhh.. lama bangett!!
Kalo ada acara yang berkesan, gue mo foto2 pake apa? Kamera HP hasilnya gak akan memuaskan.
Alhasil dengan pemikiran itu, kameranya gak jadi di-service, dan menimbang2 utk beli kamera digital yang baru.

Datenglah gue ke BEC untuk melihat2 kamera. Bingung juga karena banyak macemnya.
Gue gak mau beli Olympus lagi karena di Bandung gak ada service centernya.

Pilihan pertama jatuh pada Canon yg sebetulnya selalu menjadi favoritku. Gue coba Canon A550.
LCDnya sih gede, tp blurry. Warnanya juga kurang terang. Dan tombol2nya susah dimengerti. Berat lagi.
Mungkin tipe2 A— laennya sama.

Jadi gue nyobain yang Canon Ixus.
Tampilan luarnya sih okkeee bangeet.. Elegan, dan tombolnya nampak lebih mudah dioperasikan ketimbang yang gue coba sebelumnya. Tapi ternyata… hasil fotonya selalu blur. Gak peduli ampe harus nahan nafas buat motretnya supaya tangan gak goyang, tetep aja blur. Oke, itu mungkin krn gak ada IS-nya, tapi yg ada IS-nya itu muahhaall.. Gak worth it juga ah..

Lanjut lagi, ditawarin ama pegawainya, kamera merek Panasonic. Katanya krn pixel-nya lbh rapat, jadi ketajamannya pun lbh jelas.
Tipenya umm.. kalo gak salah FX-10 or something.
Lagi2 dengan LCD yang gede gak menjamin liatnya lbh enak. Tetep blurry. Tp memang, kalo dibandingkan dgn Canon, jauh lbh tajam dan terlihat jelas, warnanya pun lbh terang (kalo di LCD).
Hampir saja kubeli kamera itu (lumayan, dgn harga 2 juta, bisa dapet kamera sebagus itu), lalu gue minta dicoba di komputer buat liat hasilnya.
Ternyata oh ternyata…. nyaris semua foto blur, meskipun udah pake flash (pdhl kalo liat di LCD gak blur).
Dan hasil foto yg terlihat terang dan tajam di LCD, sama sekali tidak terlihat di layar komputer.
Misalnya warna merah. Di LCD-nya, gue ampe kagum, di monitornya, merahnya pudar.
Gue bersyukur bisa liat hasilnya di komp, jadi gue gak jadi beli ‘ntu kamera.

Lanjut lagi, gue ke toko laen.
Tadinya pengen nyobain Casio/Samsung/Sony Cybershot, tapi katanya hasilnya lebih jelek dibandingkan Canon, wah, gak jadi deh.
Pilihan jatuh ke Nikon. Gue lupa nyoba merek apa. Tapi hasilnya jelas tidak bagus sama sekali.

Akhirnya setelah coba2, memang gak ada yang memuaskan.

Gue jadi inget kamera2 digital zaman dulu. Bagus2.
Temen2 gue yang punya Canon zaman dulu, hasil fotonya oke2 semua. Meskipun difoto ama gue, hasil fotonya gak blur.
Nikon juga sama. Puas deh.
Sekarang…??

Balik lagi deh jadi ke HP kamera dimana HP kamera sekarang gak sebagus dulu.
Intinya sih kalo mau beli kamera digital, dicoba2 dulu.
Memang di tangan profesional yang jam motretnya tinggi, hasilnya mungkin akan terlihat lebih bagus. Tapi kalo seperti gue yg msh awam harus belajar demi memotret sebuah moment saja, rasanya merepotkan. Apalagi kalo meminta temen ato orang laen, gak mungkin kan harus diajari dulu supaya hasilnya bagus.

Terus selaen itu, megapixel gede gak menjamin kualitas foto pun semakin baik. Kamera2 digital dulu yg cuma 5 megapixel masih jauh lebih baik drpd 6/7/8 megapixel.
Dan perhatikan juga selama apa dr mencet shutter button ampe foto jadi waktunya. Ada yg lama banget.
Ada juga kamera yg susah fokusnya, jadi dipencet gak mau foto.
