All right! Let’s talk about the East this time around. The East seems a lot better this time around compared to previous seasons. There were a couple of surprises so let’s go and discuss them all.

Didn’t Make It!

Legendary 7

I really didn’t get it why Enoch was allowed to reenter ABDC again. First of all, he already reached 2nd place when he was still with Status Quo. 2nd, he is the face of Status Quo. I remember watching a video about Beast Mode auditions, that ABDC told them that Taeko is not allowed to participate since she still represent Fysh n Chicks even though they are no longer together. So how is this different to Enoch? 3rd, isn’t he the reason why Status Quo broke up in the first place? The best crew for me isn’t just the best on dancing and stunts, it’s also about the relationship of the crew. Legendary 7 is sort of an upgraded Status Quo but is still the same formula. Stunts, stunts and a bit of dancing. I will admit that the helicopter and Enoch backflip which landed on he’s knees is pretty cool. But there’s just not enough dancing. Also you can literally see Enoch barking orders to his crew members so I don’t really see them getting too far.

Draztic

I actually like this crew compared to Saltare. Because they are a true dance crew compared to Saltare who is more of a jump rope team. Their routine is pretty good but as JC said, there’s nothing in the routine that stood out. Since this is the 5th season, crews must really impress the judges and the audience.

Crews that made the nationals!

Static Noyze

They are actually pretty good. Sort of a reincarnation of Fanny Pak. I didn’t get it why Omarion didn’t like this crew. They put in a little drama on their routine at the beginning which is actually pretty nice.

Saltare

Their routine is sick! It’s hard enough just to do jump ropes. But they did it while dancing. My only concern is how they will adjust to the challenges later on. Also I’m not sure if they have a lot of dancing in them. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

Blueprint

A funny comment came from Omarion saying ‘The girls outdanced the guys’. I say it’s funny because there is actually an explanation for it. Blueprint is actually consist of only the girls originally. They just added the guys a couple of years back. So the girls have been dancing together for quite a while already compared to the guys. Yeah they are the best of the east, but a lot of people argue on where they came from. Or maybe other people are just insecure that a Canadian crew made it and is doing great compared to other crews. As Li’l Mama said, ‘They got the highest mark on the East Auditions!’. That basically says it all.

Can’t wait for the West regionals. A lot of great crews comes from the West. Just check out the previous winners of ABDC. And one particular crew that I can’t wait to see is Poreotics(Poreotix). Technically, Poreotics is the true America’s Best Dance Crew last year because they got 1st place on USA Hiphop Internationals. But I’m waiting to see how they handle the challenges in ABDC. I’m a bit worried that Omarion might not like this crew seeing his reaction to Static Noyze.

Alright ABDC is back on it’s fifth season, and it’s looking good so far compared to the previous season. I am not trying to take away anything from We Are Heroes. Don’t get me wrong. WaH are good, but they definitely benefited from weak competition from last season. Right now the competition made a little change and is now doing the regionals per episode, ala American Idol. Let’s talk about the 3 teams that will now represent the South, and the 2 teams that were not so fortunate. Let’s start with the 2 that didn’t made the nationals.

Xtreme Motion

Compared to other girl groups from past season, they were kinda soft and too girlie I think. JC said that they are generic and I agree. I felt that there is nothing new with their routine and so it didn’t stand out. They were the weakest among the 5 crews.

Ghost

I actually think that their first routine was good. They brought a dark dimension to their number and their moves are on beat. But for some reason, they didn’t bring it on the battle. Their battle routine was kinda just ok and is not memorable.

Now let’s talk about the teams that made the nationals.

Royal Flush

Personally, I think Ghost is better than them choreo-wise. It’s just that they really nailed the battle with stunts and Ghost’s routine was just… uhhhh… My concern also is that since they tried out for ABDC every season, are they still the same crew? So what’s their identity now? Unlike other crews who will say ‘We’re not gonna change our style because this is who we are’.

Jungle Boogie

I like their energy. But I thought that their routine was just ok. Nothing new, nothing special. And are they gonna keep doing that jungle moves? Because it’s gonna get old after a while.

Swagger Crew

Probably the best among the five. But still nothing really stood out for me. But at least they were better than the other crews. Looking forward to see them taking on the challenges.

My feedback about Omarion?

Well I think he’s ok. What I like about him is that he looks for the passion when dancing and not just looking for stunts as a direct contrast to Shane Sparks. If Omarion was the judge of Season1 and 2, Kaba Modern and Fanny Pak would have made the top 2. Remember how Shane keeps backing the stunt crews and the judges eventually saves them? Well at least they got Season 3’s top 2 right. Season 4 should have been a We Are Heroes, Rhythm City finale… but oh well.

While the New Year progresses Llolyd a.k.a Young Goldie is continuing to make strides toward making 2010 his biggest year yet.

In a recent interview with HipHopWired the soulful singer spoke on his plans to do just that and while not divulging details on any new releases, Lloyd says his ultimate goal for the year is “to live more in the moment.”

“My goal is to live more in the moment, to capture more moments that I live in. To take advantage of more of the opportunities that are in front of me and really learn how to really be in that moment.”

Keeping in line with his new goal, Young Goldie’s been busy in the studio putting together arrangements and making new hits.

His latest concoction is a remix of his soon-to-be Young Money family’s current anthem “Bedrock.”

Calling it “Bedrock Part 2”, Lloyd blesses the track with a new spin on his vocals in between verses from Lil Wayne and Drake.

Omarion is mad because he wasn’t invited to starr in the GRAMMY tribute to Michael Jackson tomorrow which includes: Usher, J. Hudson, Celine Dion, Taylor Swift and more.

Look what he said in Vibe Magazine:

The R&B singer tells VIBE that a tribute without himself, however, wouldn’t be the same. “If I’m not a part of that, then that’s not… I’m not gonna say it’s wack,” he says. “But I’m just saying, everyone knows what I do, so if you gon’ have an MJ tribute…”

Still, a lighthearted O, who recently released his solo album Ollusion, acknowledged that since so many artists were influenced by MJ, the options are plenty. “I take that back because Stevie [Wonder] did an MJ tribute. Everyone loved Michael. I’m not gon’ say that,” he says. “I’m just meaning the performance [aspect]. How you gon’ have a Michael tribute without the playboy? [Laughs]. That’s my only thing, and I mean this in the humblest and the most competitive way. I’m competitive — that’s what the game is about.

“Especially after Mike passed away, I feel like the stage, it’s more important now. It’s a responsibility to me when I hit the stage to not play with it,” O continued. “If you walk back and forth that’s cool, too. If that’s how you entertain, that’s cool, but for the performances and for the dances and for the people that look up to Michael in the fashion I look up to Michael? I hope they bring it. Because if they don’t, then I will.”

he’s turning into a little Kayne w/ all this bitchin’ & complainin’

As you’ve no doubt heard, Entertainment Weekly has made the first announcement of the roster for crews for America’s Best Dance Crew Season 5. Although opinions of the show have been mixed within the dance community, we’re always proud to see its members represent on the show. This season, we’re very proud to see The Hype & Poreotics repping for the West, but let’s see who we have from the EAST COAST (entries from MTV, from Entertainment Weekly):

Saltare
Hometown: Raleigh, NC

These professional jump ropers are seeking exposure for their sport while at the same time conquering the dance world. They have walked away from their college degrees and steady jobs in pursuit of a dream: to become professional jump ropers and pioneers of a burgeoning sport.

All six members are a part of the USA Jump Rope All Star team, which only features the best of the best in the country. Saltare comes to America’s Best Dance Crew to expose the sport they’ve dedicated their lives to, challenge themselves in a different arena and prove that jump rope is more than just child’s play. Now they must incorporate their unique skill set into major dance performances. With America watching, will these jumpers be able to transition their trademark jump rope into viable dance routines on the America’s Best Dance Crew stage?

Blueprint Cru
Hometown: Montreal, Canada

This Canadian crew is out to storm the home of hip-hop and demonstrate a level of synchronicity not seen before. Being the first-ever foreign crew to compete on America’s Best Dance Crew, Blueprint has a lot to prove. And for this crew, the name Blueprint is more than a title: it’s a creed. Precision, precision, precision, that’s their motto. Every move this crew does, they do as one, moving together. This dance crew is run like an army, training hard to look like one unit, to learn the origin of the move, and then striving to perfect them. This perfectionist crew doesn’t believe in tricks and stunts, they believe in unified movements down to every minute detail.

In the six years since the group started these Montreal natives have become the premiere crew in the Canadian dance world. But making a name for themselves in the country where hip-hop was born would be the ultimate barometer of success.

Legendary Seven
Hometown: Boston, MA

Legendary Seven are proud to call the hard streets of Boston home, and are quick to tell you they are one of the last true street crews from Bean Town. Their performances revolve around breaking, krumping, and popping but most importantly, big tricks.

Crew leader “E-Knock” Phillips and fellow Legendary Seven member Darius Rutledge are no strangers to Americas Best Dance Crew. They were both members of the Season One crew Status Quo which finished second only to Season One winners The JabbaWockeeZ. This time around losing is not an option. This means their tricks are even bigger and more imaginative then before.

Static Noyze
Hometown: Cambridge, MA

Static Noyze has always felt like the outcasts, never really feeling like they fit in with anyone but each other. Bored with what they call “stock hip hop” routines and moves that they’ve seen before, this off-the-wall group of dancers promises to shake up the America’s Best Dance Crew stage with their distinct style of dance. They consider themselves to be innovators of dance and describe their dance style as hip-hop with a contemporary twist. What makes them truly unique though, is that they use their routines (which they refer to as their “creations”) to convey offbeat stories told through cutting edge moves and costumes.

Leading their style brigade is crewmember Peter, a makeup artist by day and drag queen by night. As a drag queen he’s known as Baby Gaga. But even in this world he feels like an outcast saying, “there aren’t a lot of short Asian drag queens in the world.” Static Noyze does not mind being called odd. In fact, they embrace it. These eccentricities are what make Static such a unique group and they hope America finds their unconventionality charming, and become Americas Best quirky Dance Crew.

draZtik
Hometwon: Providence, RI

Predominately self-taught from music videos, draZtic is set to prove you don’t need major street cred to hang with the big dogs of America’s Best Dance Crew. Being one of the only dance crews in Providence, RI, they do not garner much respect. However with choreography that is an innovative combination of contemporary and ballet fused with popping and hip-hop they plan to earn respect. Because they are all skilled in different styles, draZtik adheres to an unconventional philosophy of leadership by committee. Each member plays an equal role in the design and choreography of every performance. Although this philosophy can sometimes lead to tension amongst members, draZtik feels it ultimately gives them an edge over other crews.
