Introduction

Now that we have the B7610 OmniaPRO running on the much-awaited Windows Mobile 6.5, we’re finally up to speed. Omnia smartphones have a pretty wide reach already and they are known for their WinMo customizations and feature-rich specs sheets. The B7610 OmniaPRO however was the first family member to sport a full hardware keyboard and by the looks of it, Samsung have done a great job.

Side-sliding or not, the B7610 OmniaPRO is definitely a capable device in both hardware and software equipment. The QWERTY keyboard however is a convenience tool usually reserved for the competition’s high-end offerings, so you can bet the OmniaPRO will have to tackle some really capable contenders. But you can easily tell, it a tough nut to crack as well.

Samung B7610 OmniaPRO at ours

Who is the OmniaPRO is a multiple choice question. And there is more than one correct answer. The original Omnia has produced such an offspring choosing names became a problem. They even had to name one of the kids after the uncle. If you’ve been keeping track, you’d know the OmniaPRO has an Armani-branded alter-ego – the B7620. But well, Giorgio was lucky. The B7610 OmniaPRO less so.

Now, there’s nothing wrong with the name except that there are another couple of Pros in the family. And perhaps too many of them in other houses.

We’ve never had a doubt about the quality of the Omnia genes but such a strong and versatile lineup perhaps exceeds the most optimistic scenarios. Samsung are obviously not only trying to update their portfolio but confront their key market rivals by matching competing devices spec for spec.

The B7610 OmniaPRO will be engaging the enemy on the high end of the performance and pricing scale. And that’s where even the smallest details count. The B7610 doesn’t have a unique defining feature like the Omnia HD to give it an edge against some unforgiving rivals. So, it will have to squeeze every bit of performance out of its system. It can count though on Samsung’s solid record in multimedia and interface customization.

Speaking of which, the custom-made TouchWiz looks and feels better than ever. So much that it’s worth the spoiler. And the mode switch for toggling Work and Leisure is keen to make a point that this here Pro knows good fun too.

So, the B7610 OmniaPRO will be trying to make its mark. And so will be Windows Mobile yet again. Because the OmniaPRO is certainly not running against PocketPCs only – the competition’s finest will stand on its way. That’s Symbian, and Android, and Maemo.

The defacto standard on smart phone keyboards are QWERTY. The layout was derived from the traditional desktop keyboard and so the mobile user can easily make the finger to thumb transition when on the fly. Those days may be a thing of the past. Swype Inc. is set to debut a new technology that doesn’t isn’t your run of the mill clicking/pressing of miniature buttons on your touchscreen phone’s soft-keyboard.

Instead of tapping, you use your finger to “swipe” from letter to letter to increase typing speed.

Does it make you want it in your precious iPhone? You can’t have it. The technology will arrive in Samsung’s Omnia II touchscreen smart phone on Verizon. The Omnia II goes on sale December 2, so it isn’t long before we start “swyping.”

Participar (encara que sigui una estoneta) a la trobada anual de la Xarxa Òmnia és sempre una mica com tornar a casa, retrobar vells amics, saludar coneguts, temptejar algun “bisnes”… però enguany és tot una mica més especial. Fa una mica més de 10 anys començava com a dinamitzador al punt Òmnia del barri de Bellvitge, on vaig romandre quasi bé 4 anys i on vaig ensenyar una mica i aprendre molt. És més, vaig esdevenir militant del concepte telecentre en al seva vessant més social i comunitària.

Desprès, des de la coordinació d’una part dels punts Òmnia vaig continuat aprenent i ensenyant, però sobretot teixint llaços amb moltes persones, moltes de les quals compto avui en el planter personal d’amics i amigues, amb les que he continuat aprenent i ensenyant. Tot un viatge en el que avui hi participen moltes més persones que les que impulsaren fa 10 anys aquells 42 punts inicials i que avui s’han trobat totes a Cornellà per fer el retrobament anual de la xarxa i per aprendre, debatre i ensenyar-se mútuament com volem que seguin els telecentres del futur.

If it were not for QQ’s presentation, I would not have known Skype has changed tremendously since my last use two years ago. The interface and texture look more professional and the new functions like the ‘Share Screen’ are very interesting. I still have the exclusive video of her laughable parody to Skype’s call-in music. Die Firma Swype hat eine neue Schreibmöglichkeit für die  Touchscreens der Smarphones erfunden. Mit der Swype Tastatur, welche bereits ab dem 2. 12.09 im Samsung Omnia II eingesetzt wurde, bittet dem Besitzer die Möglichkeit Textnachrichten zu schreiben, ohne mit dem Finger zu tippen. Wie im Video ersichtlich gleitet man ganz einfach von Buchstabe zu Buchstabe.

Este fim de semana foi muito corrido e muito bom, em especial no domingo nós da CreativeZone e Estúdio de foto OMNIAclick! fomos até o litoral norte de São Paulo fazer um ensaio fotográfico de uma cliente. Trash the Dress, se você ainda não sabe o que é, irá saber muito em breve. Aquele vestido de casamento que você tanto sonha em ter, será manchado, molhado e porque não rasgado? A intenção não é destruir o vestido mas, tirar o maior proveito dele em fotos inovadoras e cheias de diversão e até de uma emoção diferenciada.

Felizmente as empresas que estou fazendo parte como co-fundador tem essa visão e, este fim de semana foi o abre alas de nossos serviços nesse meio, produzimos e executamos mais de 250 cliques além de um trailer FullHD. Caso alguém aí saiba de alguém querendo fotos e vídeo assim, indique-nos.

Vanessa foi junto e, curtiu um bocado a praia, a primeira parte do dia foi um pouco difícil pois o sol estava forte e a água longe, mas logo após o almoço ela pode se jogar na água e brincar um pouco enquanto eu aqui trabalhava, não posso reclamar, praia eu gosto das desertas e a que fomos, Armação, estava cheia então, não senti falta de dar um mergulho, apenas molhar os pés já me bastou.

The inevitable is going to happen. I will get myself an iPhone. On one hand I want one (let’s face facts, it’s a very very good product), on the other hand I don’t want fall into the Steve Jobs reality distortion field.

I was holding out hope for the Samsung Omnia II (Omnia Icon in some markets). It sounded like the Windows Mobile to have (aside from coming preloaded with WinMo 6.1). I recently had an opportunity to play with one in a Telstra T[life] shop and I was very disappointed. Samsung’s TouchWiz UI shell didn’t impress me (in fact it just made me think I was using their low-end F480 which everyone who’s had one seems to hate). And compared to the other smartphones around it, it’s AMOLED screen didn’t look special at all. I played with it for all of 2 minutes, got depressed, and went to see what other toys I could play with in the shop.

For comparison’s sake I also played with a HTC Touch Diamond2 which seemed to be running bog-standard WinMo 6.5 (IE without HTC’s TouchFLO UI). This is the first time I’ve played with a 6.5 powered device (although I have played with it in the emulator) and even though I know that clunky old Windows Mobile lurks just under the surface, I was pleasantly surprised as to how the new welcome and start screens worked (smooth, responsive, easy). There may be some hope for WinMo 7 after all (if MS and their OEM partners can get it right).

For now it looks like I’ll lock into an iPhone for 24 months. By then WinMo 7 will be mature and maybe the Marketplace for Mobile will have (almost) as many apps as Apple’s App Store. Or maybe Android will have taken over as mobile king-of-the-hill.

Omnia: i lavoratori e presidiano la sede “lucchettata”

«Con la presente, Le comunichiamo che a decorrere dal 16 novembre 2009, Ella è dispensata dal prestare la propria opera e dal presentarsi presso la sede Omnia Service Center di Ivrea in via Montenavale 1, con corresponsione della normale retribuzione».

E´ questo il testo della “dispensa dalla presenza in azienda” che si sono visti recapitare (come raccomandata) i dipendenti eporediesi di Omnia alla fine della scorsa settimana.

Ma quella che sembrava già una mossa di chiusura alle trattative da parte aziendale, era in effetti solo una parte di una azione ancora più netta: infatti i lavoratori che ieri, nonostante la raccomandata, hanno deciso di recarsi ugualmente nei loro uffici hanno trovato le porte chiuse con dei lucchetti: «In pratica una serrata dell´azienda» è stato il commento di Lino Malerba di Fiom Cgil.

Già sabato scorso Luca Basilicata, uno dei destinatari della “dispensa”, a nome anche dei colleghi aveva girato il testo della missiva aziendale agli organi di stampa, preannunciando: «Da lunedì ci mobiliteremo e ogni giorno organizzeremo in città qualcosa di diverso. Se entro il 15 dicembre non ci sarà una soluzione… preparatevi a grosse sorprese».

E la prima iniziativa è scaturita spontanea di fronte a quelle porte bloccate: i dipendenti Omnia hanno immediatamente dato vita a un presidio proprio di fronte a quei lucchetti.

«Abbiamo immediatamente fatto presente all´azienda che il suo atteggiamento era inaccettabile – ha raccontato Malerba -, anche perché all´interno dei locali erano rimasti gli effetti personali delle persone che vi lavoravano.
Verso le 14 un incaricato aziendale è arrivato da Torino per aprire le porte. E i dipendenti, una volta entrati in quelli che erano i loro uffici, hanno deciso di non uscire più e dare immediatamente il via a un´assemblea permanente.

Sul fronte della vertenza sindacale, intanto, due sono le direttrici d’azione. Da una parte ci sono le iniziative dei lavoratori eporediesi che già oggi, verso le 9.30, si ritroveranno sotto il palazzo della Provincia di Torino in via Maria Vittoria per un presidio in contemporanea all´incontro tra l’assessore alle attività produttive Carlo Chiama e i sindacati.

A questo proposito è utile ricordare come in più occasioni i lavoratori abbiano tenuto a ricordare alla Provincia le proprie responsabilità in questa crisi. Nel messaggio di posta elettronica inviato lo scorso sabato Basilicata scrive: «Ovviamente stiamo ancora aspettando che la Provincia si faccia carico di noi 38 dipendenti, visto che è responsabile di questo danno. Ricordo a tutti il fallimento del Polo della Pubblica Amministrazione. (noi dovevamo fare parte di quel progetto). E come sempre accade in Italia, i danni della Politica li paghiamo sempre e solo noi».

Sul versante nazionale, intanto ieri si è svolto al ministero dello sviluppo economico un nuovo incontro tra sindacati e vertici aziendali. Ma durante questa ennesima riunione non si è ancora arrivati ad avere indicazioni chiare sul futuro dell´azienda. I sindacati lamentano come non sia ancora chiaro se vi sarà una ricapitalizzazione o meno. «Qui abbiamo la vertenza per i licenziamenti alla sede di Ivrea – è stato il commento di Malerba -, ma il vero rischio è che tutta l´azienda alla fine faccia il “botto”!».

L´unica novità emersa è che Omnia Service Center sarebbe nuovamente passata di mano. Dopo la cessione di qualche mese fa, con l´acquisto da parte di dirigenti Omnia, sarebbe ora diventata proprietà di Voicity, una Holding che dovrebbe procedere alla ricapitalizzazione grazie a un socio finanziario, la East Investment. Ma le modalità e le tempistiche non sono ancora chiare.

Proprio in ragione di queste novità nel livello nazionale della crisi i sindacati locali avrebbero chiesto all´azienda la sospensione della mobilità, ma nessuna risposta è per ora giunta.

«Dopo la lettera di dispensa dal lavoro – ci scrive Luca Basilicata -, ecco l’ennesima “porcata” che ha fatto l’Azienda Omnia Service center nei nostri confronti. All’Ingresso della porta principale della sede hanno pensato bene di mettere due luchetti da bicicletta per evitare che noi “poveri dipendenti” andassimo a rubare i computer “da quattro soldi” che occupano le nostre
scrivanie».

«Dopo numerosi solleciti – continua Basilicata -(compresa la telefonata che ha fatto il Sindaco di Ivrea davanti a noi dipendenti) si presenta verso le 12 tale Yvette Rechichi, responsabile del personale di Torino/Ivrea per rimuovere
i lucchetti dall’ingresso principale»

O omnia HD já vem de fábrica com a configuração de volume regulado muito baixo. Para poder alterar estas configurações você pode digitar o código de funções secretas e alterar as linhas que eu vou citar.

Ya sabíamos que el Samsung OmniaHD iba a cambiar su nombre. Finalmente, el nombre definitivo con el que llega a España es Samsung i8910 HD, con el objetivo de que no se confunda con los últimos modelos de Omnia que se han presentado.

Este terminal se presenta como uno de los teléfonos móviles más avanzados del mercado, en especial si lo comparamos con otros modelos que, como él, vayan equipados con Symbian S60 5ª edición, el sistema operativo que también utiliza el Nokia N97, aunque aquí viene con el interfaz TouchWiz.

Existe un software llamado MyMobiler que es FREEWARE (a la usanza de la vieja escuela ja ja ja) que puedes ver y tomar el control de tu teléfono desde tu PC o Laptop utilizando tu teclado y mouse.
Lo más chido es poder hacer el famosísimo “cortar y pegar” entre el teléfono y el escritorio que estés usando, puedes capturar pantallas de tu teléfono, hacer el “soltar y pegar” archivos también desde el escritorio hacia el teléfono.
Soporta ActiveSync / Conexión IP y también tiene soporte para explorar los archivos del teléfono.
Lo puedes obtener para Windows Mobile 2003, 5.0 y 6.0 (eso dice la página web, pero yo estoy usando 6.5 y sin ningún problema lo he podido instalar y ejecutar).

Esta aplicación sirve para editar de una forma mucho más sencilla y cómoda el registro de un teléfono con Windows Mobile, ya que esta instalada en la computadora y utilizas tu teclado y mouse y evitas estar sufriendo.
Entre algunas cosas puedes hacer búsquedas rápidas, importar e exportar las claves en formato .REG
Todo esto se hará a través de la conexión USB vía ActiveSync.

Depois que adquiri um Omnia HD, muitos testes tenho feito. A cada semana descubro um novo truque ou um novo software para meu novo companheiro. Acho que se eu tivesse comprado um N97 ou o Sony Ericsson Idou eu não ficasse tão satisfeito como estou com o Omnia HD. Realmente é uma máquina! A pesar da Nokia fazer uma grande publicidade com os novos firmwares do N97, melhorando significativamente o desempenho do aparelho, a Samsung também vem desenvolvendo algumas novidades muito interessantes para o seu modelo top de linha, sem tanto marketing. Mas como este aparelho não é vendido oficialmente na América (ainda), as melhores versões dos firmwares são Chinesa, Italiana e a Russa. Já experimentei as três e cada uma apresentou com pontos positivos e negativos. No geral são equilibradas em qualidade e desempenho. Mas uma das coisas que eu não suportei, e presente nas três, são alguns softwares pré-instalados, que, nem que você queira, não consegue desinstalar. Tomando espaço precioso na memória do celular, comprometendo o desempenho do mesmo, e isto é uma coisa que não deveria acontecer já que o sistema Symbian é muito prático e fácil de se instalar e desistalar softwares.

Até que descobri hoje, em um blog que eu nem sei que país é, e lá tem disponível uma versão de firmware chamada de i8910HX_1.5_SPEED_EDITION_1.25, que até então eu não conhecia. Provavelmente foi desenvolvida por um “monstro” em Imagens ROM.

Simplesmente demais esta versão, além de não vir nenhum software “lixo” pré-instalado, possui uma liberação bem maior de memória RAM. No pacote, vem junto um programa ROM flashing tool (próprio) e um programa para desbloquear o aparelho, sem precisar assinar o HelloOX2.

Agora com o novo Opera Mini 10, o “bixo” está voando mais ainda. O navegador Web kit possui o kinetic scrolling (da versão chinesa) e não possui o menu em 3d (provavelmente retirado para aumentar o desempenho). Em compensação, vem com um pluguin que possibilita uma animação na transição de programas bem legal.
