I am currently trying to get seekmagic on the radio, up here in the north east of England. I guess if I did manage that, then this is what the show would probably sound like. 73 minutes of mostly new music, lovingly selected for your listening pleasure by yours truly. Easily my favourite out of the seven shorts featured over the last week, what is it they say? Save the best till last! Burn-E is a short that was released with the DVD version of Wall-E and interlinks with scenes from the actual film. Any fan of Wall-E, or rather animation or any of the Pixar shorts featured this week will love this.

The man that needs no introduction; Presto.

It may be apparent from the name, that this short was released with Ratatouille. Being roughly 10 minute long, and not of the best quality, it’s perfectly understandable if you prefer not to watch this short, but it’s rather humorous and you may even learn a thing or two. Remy and Emile tell their tale of how they came to be.

Day 4 of Pixar week, features lifted. Which was ideally released with ‘Ratatouille‘, the film also features a star from Ratatouille, we all know him as Linguini (however in this short, he is known as Ernie). If you like animation, aliens, or films about rats and Italians, then this is for you.

This is next short in the Pixar week line up, with only four more left who knows what’s coming next. One man band was a short designated to be released with ‘Cars’ and fit features two men and a little girl, set in roughly the medieval ages, where both men are struggling to make money, money the little girl appears to have.

I wrote some super-crazy / stupid / entirely boring fiction piece about a one-man band once, but I can’t remember if it ever got published. I will go look it up now. Watch this:

My reading public, you have a great chance to be a part of the action on the Kyle Baxter Project!  I am opening up this forum to ideas from you, the great unwashed masses, about songs I should write.  I will accept nearly any topic.  The more specific, the better, but general works, too, if it’s a universal theme.  Please try to keep it family-friendly.  If anyone will cross the lines of good taste, it’ll be me, buddy.

I still haven’t decided whether or not to just write lyrics (for you to set your own music to), or if I should make it a whole video production, complete with my melodious voice and backing percussion (spoons).  Should I make full-fledged videos of my songs?  I’d like your opinion, please.  I realize I’m taking a leap here by opening up this part of the Kyle Baxter Project to you.  Fortunately, I trust you, I trust the comment system, and most of all, I trust the delete button works if you send me a stupid idea.

If I receive a deluge of song ideas, I may have to pick and choose, so get your ideas in early, and get creative!  Check back often to see if your topic gets chosen!  Begin.

Here’s an amazing one-man-band street performer in Rijeka, Croatia playing a catchy tune. Kinda makes  me feel like a loser when I don’t even have a hobby! Something about watching this just makes me smile. Geez, exactly how many instruments he plays is beyond me.

So let me tell you what happened for a few month.

I used to play since 13 years a poor quality 5 strings resonnator banjo in a one man band concept… i couldnt manage to learn a bluegrass 3 finger style even if i realy like the sounding of the technic but… too difficult and the metal things on the fingers was not something for me….
So i played it like a guitar with a plectrum but uses the real banjo tunigs and chords. The story so far, i recorded a few tunes and an album with banjo songs but i quickly lay away the banjo as an instrument where i will never progress and keep on practicing and playing mostly guitar.

BUT

I watched some of your youtube videos and what a surprise ! It is possible to learn something different, realy more instinctive you call fraillin !waow ! After a few hours i could play more interesting notes than i learned in 10 years with my banjo !

I worked since several hours in the week till may approximately and try to play all of my songs with that technic.. and others ! All that old country early roots american stuff that i like so much is now accessible in a real vintage sounding playing !

As i’m touring in january with my one man band concept (mixing theater and rock ‘n roll roots, yodels … ) i wanted to me the more ready i could with my banjo. So if you don’t mind i wish to ask you a few questions :

How can i install a pick up on a banjo to play frailin style ? i actualy have a low cost transducer but i can’t play very loud in the amp because of the feedback, and my thumb makes a continuous boom boom… As i have to play with kickdrum and snear it musy be loud enough.

Is it better to remove the renonator of the banjo for better sounding ?

How can i find some tips and tricks to sound more “bluegrass” in some of my songs ? Frailin playing is good for covering the early stuff, but i sometimes want to sound more in bill monroe style, or earl scruggs… So is it possible to cover those kind of songs using frail ? and How ? sure someting with the thumb….

La tradición de los hombres orquesta viene de atrás, de muy atrás en el tiempo. Ya en el siglo XIII existen grabados de estos señores interpretando canciones tocando a la vez tubo (una especie de flauta) y tabor (una especie de tambor).

Poco a poco se irían añadiendo otros instrumentos, y la forma del hombre orquesta actual se fue depurando: un tambor a la espalda, guitarra, armónica, pandereta…

Así que visto lo visto, en un mundo que cada vez se olvida más de las tradiciones, es un placer seguir viendo a estos simpáticos señores traídos con la máquina del tiempo de algún siglo de por allá.
