…so I’m glad I did.

I am afraid that I have misled a number of you. I have received a couple different suggestions for sleep aids—usually better living through chemistry suggestions.

The truth is, I don’t have problems sleeping. As long as I’m not on a plane, I can fall asleep in fifteen minutes. I can sleep on a plane too, but only for an hour at a time. And better in the sunlight. Like a cat.

I have a great routine for sleeping. I start by laying on my back. Thanks to my hearing issues, I feel dizzy when I lay on my back (go ahead and laugh), but not enough to make me sick. So I use it to my advantage. Then I roll onto my left side so that only my deaf ear is exposed. And since it isn’t really as deaf after the surgery, I pull the covers over my right ear. When I am just about to zonk out, I roll onto my right side. Then I’m out. Well, after some pet adjustment.

So the real problem is that I don’t schedule enough sleep. Like tonight. I know I have to get up at 05:00, but here I am in the bar. Not because I can’t go to sleep right now, but because I wanted to make up for the cost of this stay with blog posts. Oh yeah, I forget that you all don’t pay me to do this. Suck. Is there a tip jar widget for WordPress so you all can sponsor my trips in exchange for learning intimate details about my sleeping habits?

And if there are drugs to make me schedule more sleep, I don’t want them. Viva…la…shit, I don’t remember the expression.

Wow, la trasmissione oggi sta andando a gonfie vele… erano i The Pretenders fino a poco fa. Adesso, prima di una bella pausa caffè, ci gustiamo i The Platters con Only you!

BEAST / B2ST is a new rookie group from JYPE’s sister company Cube Entertainment which is also the company of the girl group 4minute. Consisting of members (from left to right) DuJun, DongWoon, YoSeob, GiKwang (AJ),  HeunSung, and JunHyung, this 6-member group would soon dominate the Kpop scene with their cute and charismatic faces. DuJun? Sounds familiar? Ah! I remember! DuJun was part of the Hot Blood boys which 2PM and 2AM originated from. He was eliminated along with Lee Sui Chi and JinWoon who is now a member of 2AM. How about AJ? I kinda know him from somewhere. Oh yeah! He was part of JYPE back in the days. He released a solo song and along with it a couple of music videos. Soon before B2ST was even planned AJ was moved to JYPE’s sister company Cube Entertainment and was put into the 6 member group.

I recommend you to watch the MV. AJ and YoSeob are so cute!! My new hubbies!!xD

2PM has been under not only harsh spotlight but many more than usual. Everyone has been waiting for their comeback since it was delayed and Hottest fans can’t get enough of the new tracks.

One of the rare groups that will put out a full length album, the group retrieved some old tracks with a few remixes to add to make this full album.Their comeback to the music stage is scheduled for the 15th and you can be sure this blogger’s going to be up with you to check it out!

But for now let’s enjoy the audio!

Gimme The Light

A pretty, relaxing song that has Khun actually starting out first. A song that is definitely outcast-ed by the others. This track has electro pop in it but it’s not pronounced. An ordinary song at most, the track title “Gimme The Light” reminds me too much of Sean Paul.

Heartbeat

The opening makes me a bit misty-eyed because the leadja would’ve probably started off the song with “Can You Feel My Heartbeat?!” Lots of breathing mixed with lyrical content, this opening track sets you for the rest of the album.

Crazy For you

Actually my favorite song, the pop song is fused somehow that it sounds like a remix non stop. The chaotic beat fused with their calm lyrics work well the song. Although I’m not a fan of someone screaming in the back (*cough* Lil John) The rap part remixes into a movie beat like something used for a really dramatic scene and then comes back to the original.

All Night Long

One of the few ballad Songs on the album, it’s not particularly hitting my favorite section. The song features a seriously old school beat that reminds me of the early 90’s pop.

Back 2 U

A slow-ed down pop song with lots of synthesizers, it is a very simple beat reminds me of Lil Wayne’s Ms Officer. JYP has done a lot of American songs so it doesn’t surprise me when lyrics like “Ladies you feel me, sing a song like this.” get put in.

Positano is a dream of idyllic images. Stunning views over the salty sea, golden sunsets and balmy evenings spent dancing on balconies with handsome strangers.

At least this was my impression after seeing Only You with Robert Downey Junior when I was a teenager. So when my sister and I decided to escape reality for a week – Positano seemed like the perfect choice.

Perched on the rugged Amalfi coast in south-west Italy, Positano is about an hour and a half by train from Naples. It was once a fishing village but now tourism is its main industry.

From the distance it looks like a mountain of faded white hotels all draped in purple bougainvillea. The buildings all face out to the sea, peering over the edge of weathered cliffs and offering spectacular views of the ocean.

My sister and I reach this little patch of paradise by a bus which we catch from neighbouring Sorrento. It costs about 5 Euros and takes about an hour.

The ride is a bit hairy at times, with the bus teetering over the edge of some enormous cliffs, but it’s probably safer than trying to navigate the roads in a rental car.

Arrival

The bus drops us off at the top of the hill and we stand for about half an hour, just admiring the beautiful town that lies in front of us. We set off down the hot, winding road in search of air conditioning and crisp chardonnay.

An hour later, we are still walking. If you arrive here with no map, it’s a bit of a problem. Positano is actually quite big and the hills are, well, steep.

But it is quiet where we wander and I note that the town retains the charm of the sleepy fishing village it once was. Artists and movie stars discovered Positano in the 1950s and the crowds haven’t stopped coming since.

It is no surprise when we round a corner and the peace evaporates. Tourists crowd the pavement as the sun beats down on this hot day. But if you can bear a few extra people wandering alongside you, there are a lot of boutique shops to explore.

There is everything from handmade lace to oil paintings of the Amalfi coast and designer handbags. And of course, the mandatory bottle of sweet limoncello.

Lunch

We head up another winding road and find a lovely little restaurant with stunning views of the ocean. We settle in to eat al dente linguine wrapped in warm olive oil, tossed with chili and clams, then freshly grilled fish with capers and lemon. Fresh, doughy bread and grassy olive oil make a perfect accompaniment.

After finishing off a bottle of wine, we are quite relaxed and think about staying into the night.

Alas, our budget does not stretch to staying here. This dreamy little town is quite expensive. But there are many other beautiful (and cheaper) villages close by to base yourself.

Sorrento has good connections with the rest of the coast plus Naples and Rome. Then there are smaller towns like Ravello, nestled above the cliffs near Positano.

My sister and I return to Sorrento, tired but content. It is dinner time now so find a little restaurant on the water. On a creaking deck we eat fresh scampi and prawns and sip limoncello from chilled glasses. I could get used to this.

Als paramedicus, gecertificeerd in de dermato-cosmetic sciences en gepassioneerd parfumliefhebber, stoor ik me steeds meer aan het soort non-informatie dat mij op glossy papier wordt aangeleverd via uw magazine Only You. Laat ik dit even voor u verduidelijken: u schrijft in uw editorial van het septembernummer van Only You onder de titel Beauty Regeneration: “ Mijn recente make-upontdekkingen brachten me op het idee me te richten tot alle vrouwen en mannen die toegewijd en vol passie zoeken naar nieuwe openbaringen van schoonheid om ze te schenken aan de wereld.”. Hiermee bedoelt u waarschijnlijk: op voorwaarde dat ze ook maar iets begrijpen van wat u schrijft.

Los van het feit dat uw editorial mits enige kleine aanpassingen als homilie voor de zondagsmis kan gebruikt worden – denk maar aan het vervolg van de eerder aangehaalde zin: “ Dat vergeten, is uitglijden op de dodelijke en gemakkelijke helling van menselijke onverschilligheid.”- schiet dit literair exploot  jammerlijk genoeg compleet zijn doel voorbij. Denkt u werkelijk dat iemand die vol passie naar nieuwe openbaringen van schoonheid zoekt, deze tracht te vinden in Only You?

Ik zou eerder verwachten in Only You bruikbare informatie te vinden over de nieuwste parfumcreaties en de nieuwste trends in cosmeticaformuleringen. In de plaats krijg ik, om u te parafraseren, een kennismaking met de geur die me de hele herfst zal vergezellen, dankzij de inspanningen van Thierry, Daphné en Sophie die opnieuw in hun essences duiken en ze afleveren aan de redactie. Wie in Godsnaam zijn Thierry, Daphné en Sophie? Hun namen komen niet voor in de lijst van medewerkers. Of bedoelt u hiermee de neuzen voor de nieuwste parfums van Guerlain, Issey Miyake en Yves Saint Laurent? En waarom duiken ze in essences om ze vervolgens aan de redactie aan te leveren? Weet u eigenlijk zelf wat een dergelijke zin betekent?

Ik vind persoonlijk de manier waarop het magazine Only You is opgevat beledigend voor iedereen die op een serieuze manier met deze materie bezig is of erin geïnteresseerd is. Niet dat ik durf te pretenderen dat parfum & cosmetica op zich een “problematiek” is die au sérieux moet worden genomen, maar er steekt een hele wetenschap achter de creaties van cosmetica en parfums. Een soms zeer innovatieve wetenschap. De artikels in uw magazine reflecteren dit geenszins, het zijn eerder publireportages dan wel echte informatie. Het zou dan ook veel eerlijker zijn naar uw lezers toe om dit duidelijk te vermelden.

Ik vind het jammer dat het enthousiasme en de know-how van de mensen in mijn lokale ICI Paris XL winkel, zo bruusk worden gecounterd door de commerciële oppervlakkigheid in het magazine dat ze steeds weer met enige trots in mijn boodschappentasje steken. Ik zou u willen uitnodigen om eens een kijkje te nemen op een website zoals http://www.nstperfume.com/, waar professionele reviews en objectieve informatie wordt gegeven. Om het met uw woorden te zeggen: “Vernieuw uzelf”.

For whatever reason I’ve been watching a lot of terrible movies lately. It’s almost as if these movies find me and force me to watch them. It’s torturous. So for those of you who have seen these, let me know what you think of them. And for those of you who haven’t, avoid them at all costs!

The Edge of Love– I guess I  just figured that you can’t go too wrong with a movie that stars both Keira Knightley and Sienna Miller? Plus that very attractive dude from the only “scary” movie I’ve liked (28 Days Later) is in it–what’s his him? Cillian Murphy! Anyway, the whole thing was absolutely terrible. Don’t waste your time. By the way, there’s also a sex scene that involves Knightley and you see her naked top half; the woman has no boobies–looks like a man!

Sunshine Cleaning– This was definitely a case where the previews were completely misleading. The movie as a whole was slow, choppy and disingenuous. I almost didn’t even want to finish watching it.

Only You– I honestly can’t even tell you why I chose to watch this. It was probably a Friday night where I was bored out of my mind, but was too lazy to come up with anything better to do. Anyway, maybe I have a thing for Robert Downey Jr. or something? His character was OK, but his costar, Marisa Tomei played the most annoying character in the world. I could not stand to hear her speak by the end of the film. Billy Zane is also in the film, which kind of cracked me up because everytime I think of Billy Zane, I think of his bit part in Zoolander. So bad, it’s good. Not this film, just Billy Zane.

So there you have it. Avoid all of these films, if possible. Read a book instead. And if you happen to watch them anyway, don’t say I didn’t try to warn you.

I have seen one noteworthy movie in the last couple months that you should rent if you have the chance– Wristcutters: A Love Story. I don’t want to go into any detail about it, because I prefer that you just watch it. The soundtrack is pretty great too if you’re into Gogol Bordello.

Wanted: Right Mate

The infamous quote of the century. My question is, how did Jerry KNOW that Dorothy could in fact COMPLETE him? Like she was the missing puzzle piece to his heart? (or she had his wallet…) There are countless movies, lyrics and books where they all in a round about way mention if you find the right mate who completes you, they will finally fill your every need and make all your dreams come true. (kind of a high standard right?)

From the textbook, “Sex, Love and Romance in the Mass Media,” dating expert Mary Laner suggest, ” that the depersonalization inherent in our mass media society might lead to unrealistically high expectations and individual longings for a close relationship in which one person will satisfy every need. “ Does the song … “Some day my prince will come….Some day when my dreams come true..” sang by Snow White ring any bells? Admittedly, we have all grown up thinking there is only ONE person out there that can truly complete us and make us happy. The reality is, the higher the expectations, the harder we fall when they aren’t met.

We see it in the movies, like most Disney and chick flicks, and also music lyrics with titles like “I can’t live, if living is without you,” and “You’re nobody till somebody cares.” Or you can go to the bookstore and buy the book, “From Your Lips to God’s Ears…Finding Your Right Mate in 10 easy Steps. (All for the small price of $12.95)  Some excerpts from the book,  “Are you lonely? Do you long for that special someone to complete you? Do you think that the right mate is impossible to find? This is a very unique little book on how to find that special someone that may have been eluding you in this lifetime.” (Not only do we have to find the person who completes us…but they may have been hiding?)

Having such idealistic views on who and how the right mate will complete you can only lead to disappointment and depression once your anxiety issues hit the fan. The path to success is to complete yourself instead of using that line, “You had me at hello,” every chance you get.
