Oh why do we all appreciate something after that something is gone… Imagine something you use

Oh why do we all appreciate something after that something is gone…

Imagine something you use everything, like toilet paper. Everyday, I walk into the bathroom, do my bizz and walk out. It’s quite typical. But!! Little did I know how precious those several squares of paper were until there were no more during a big deposit. At that moment, time seem to pass very very slowly until this dilemma is resolved. It’s quite interesting (not my paper-less solution but how time is perceived). As if every critical moment, time would submit itself into a slow-motion camera until our processing center cranks out a solution. When I recall this experience, it makes me appreciate what’s around me. Sometimes I overlook on how much I appreciate and value somethings, some animal, someone and etc… Being consumed into my own work schedule and trying to figure out life, I feel like I am focusing too much on myself or am I?

I stumbled on a webpage where it described how nature/traveling makes a person more compassionate. Given the opportunities to travel to other countries and witnessing many awe-inspiring scenes, I have developed compassion and even a greater appreciation of the things I have. Perhaps, this is why I am always content and rarely mad. Along the same lines of broadening perspectives, I discovered a very eccentric restaurant called Opaque where people dine in complete darkness, served by blind servers. I read about it on Boing Boing and the concept is quite inspiring. I presume that people who dine there will gain a new appreciation for not only food but light, communication, the disabled, and their own senses. Imagine that you can’t see what you’re eating. How insecure would that be? Are you eating fish or is it “fish” made out of insect guts. Nevertheless, an dining experience in the dark might be a intriguing endeavor. Perhaps, I’ll try it in the comfort of my own dining table?

Don’t wait, Love, Laugh, Dance and Live.. NOW!!

Watch the edges; yet another birth, another coming-to, another attempt at elucidation, lucid, try lucidity, for a change, just watch the edges, and also, try to aim at the opaque, but where’s the opaque in the translucid, and how, how does it

Elucidation: an act of explaining that serves to clear up and cast light on. The splendid, harsh ambiguity of words, the clustering of them, the annoying coming-to, they do not leave us they do not, they do not leave us, an act of explaining, take that, an act, ex-plain, serves, clear, clear up, cast, cast, cast, light. On.

And as it is happening, you watch it take shape, this thing, this event, this work, this thing-in-work-in-process, which is you in the stupidest of senses, you have been feeding it and yes, you were the, the ur-text, but what with it, the bone, the rib, the biblical Eve, so clearly not you, going elsewhere, as you watch

Warning: THIS POST IS GOING TO BE MOTHER-EFFING LONG! Just so I could forever remind myself how ridi

Warning: THIS POST IS GOING TO BE MOTHER-EFFING LONG! Just so I could forever remind myself how ridiculous that day was.

Sooooo I personally looooovee opaque leggings… but my bf on the other hand HATES them. He literally said to me that it makes him not want to be seen with me !!!!! Quite shocked from hearing that… but apparently he found a niche of guys who despise leggings on girls and think that they’re repulsive!! That makes me super sad!

I guess one reason that led to his “leggings haterism” is that I wore them to the Jimmy Choo for H&M release in San Francisco and he felt that see-through leggings were inappropriate for cold weather.

Anyway, I know the Jimmy Choo for H&M shebang was SO last week, but I didn’t get to write about it here soooo here goes.

I woke up at around 5 am to drive out to San Francisco. I go to school in Davis… hence the waking up extra early part. After getting ready, I got to the long ass friggin’ line at about 7:30 am… AND I almost ran someone over in front of this long ass friggin’ line LOL (ok not funny actually) Anyway, so I ended up waiting in front of the Ben Sherman store and within 10-15 minutes, the line extended all the way down to where the Apple Store is! (Sorry if these references are irrelevant to you.) SO was waiting there with the bf, until he realized Niketown had some shoe release shiz too… now I’m just waiting alone by myself luckily people around me were fun to talk to hahaha finally line starts moving at 9-ish. and OBVIOUSLY at this point you should know that I was not one of the first 160 people to receive bracelets, b/c those people apparently got there the day before and camped out! Love them for the commitment, but HATE THEM FOR TAKING EVERYTHING!!!!!!

So near 10 am the doors were open, people going crazy in the store grabbing everything in sight. I grabbed a sequin cardigan, but heard someone say the shoes were upstairs so I literally threw the cardigan down and ran towards the escalator. That was USELESS, b/c I just ended up in a big crowd of people who didn’t have bracelets to go into that section. Even people WITH bracelets didn’t go in yet! And the non-bracelet people wouldn’t be able to get in until 12-ish. I lost a hint of hope at this point, so the bf convinced me to have lunch. While having lunch my friend who was also there (to get shoes for his gf, how sweet) called me and told me non-bracelet people can enter now! This was around 11:30 am so I finished my meal and hurried my ass back over to H&M.

Here comes the fun part… NOT! Here I am, stuck in the middle of people towering over me. I literally yelled out “this is height discrimination!” Because let me explain… so for us non-bracelet people to go into the Jimmy Choo accessories section, the security just counts up to 10 people per group to go in. And all these crazy bitches were waving their arms, trying to get the security to see them. And people were pushing! C’mon girls… be nice… It was to the point where this one chick’s boobs were all over me that I was at some awkward angle like doing a 45 degree with my ankles awkward! So I just turned around and said these exact words, “Sorry, could you please back up, b/c I’m at an extremely awkward angle. My knees are all weird.” LOL whatever I got my point across and she backed off of me haha

THEN THIS ONE GIRL I JUST WANTED TO MURDER! I was standing to the left of her friend and she was behind me on my left. This girl reached her arm out in front of my chest to drag her ass over to her friend, just shoving her body into mines. UH. RUDE. She looked like she was 13. Shouldn’t she be playing hopscotch or something? Anyway, I guess I’m too passive and I should assume obnoxious and aggressive people at these sort of things…

SO MY TURN FINALLY CAME! A lot of stuff was already gone, but I didn’t wake up at 5 am for nothing! Soooo I ended up grabbing some beautiful black gladiator studded heels (sz 8), 2 bracelets, and a wallet/clutch! Unfortunately I have munchkin feet (sz5-6) and I don’t fit a damn size 8! There were only size 9s left when I was in there… and there were still a whole lot of people trying to get in. Anyway, I just bought everything I grabbed and sold the shoes on Ebay! It deserved a home!

Jimmy Choo for H&M stuff

I hope they decide to restock ONE MORE TIME! b/c I really wanted the sequin top and those gladiator heels! I know they restocked once in New York, but restock for SAN FRANCISCO PLEASE!

What would I do differently next time? Well for one, when I wake up at 5am… I better already be in SF! not driving another 1.5hrs to get to SF! I actually live in SF too lol stupid me

Anyway, told ya this was gonna be a long ass mother effing post!

   Sandy

Michael asks: Thanks so much for posting your technique, I am currently working on my first painting

Michael asks:

Thanks so much for posting your technique, I am currently working on my first painting and have been doing exactly what you’ve done here. i think i did do something wrong though, a friend of mine said to do a light wash over the entire piece ,but I think it just confused me. Anyhow , why do you not put more detail in the underpainting, are you modeling further with your glazes?

I’m not sure what the light wash is for, either. I’m assuming you’re using acrylic paints, which dry to a hard finish and so allow you to paint a wash on top of them. I use gouache, and a wash would scrub off whatever was painted underneath. So, I start my paintings with washes and build up to opaque brushstrokes. A wash is paint made transparent by adding water. A glaze is paint made transparent by adding a medium—for acrylic, glazing medium; for oil paint, linseed oil and varnish—or glazing medium.

I do an underpainting to block in and organize big areas of light and dark. I long ago found out it’s too complicated for me to figure out light and dark and color all at the same time. There’s no point in me putting lots of detail in the underpainting, because I’m only going to paint the same details on top with opaque paint. In fact, to discourage myself from getting into details while underpainting, I use an oversized brush.

Here’s a step-by-step example of how I build up from an underpainting. This is a continuation of a previous post, What do I paint first?

Dear God, Is it just me –or is the world becoming so used to “stretching the truth

Dear God,

Is it just me –or is the world becoming so used to “stretching the truth” that it honestly doesn’t see black or white or even shades of grey. But, to everyone it may appear as though conversations are heard in the obscure color of opaque? Could anything that is spoken, written or otherwise translated, be left for interpretation, and therefore glazed with something that does not reflect light. Jesus, You are Light. Your word is never obscure or opaque. It should never be left for one’s own interpretation, but is identifiable and completely understandable. You are incapable of telling lies, therefore nothing in the bible is left so misrepresented, that we have to use our imagination to decide how to live our lives, or how to receive Your mercy and graceful forgiveness. You love without ceasing, and give life to each person who accepts that free gift.

It seems to me, that it is so easy for us to “bend” versions of actuality into a new molded version of an incident. When asked about our opinions, we often tend to soften our answers, so as not to offend a friend or colleague. Our political views on the other hard, are often less generalized. Perhaps, in part, due to the fact that we already are aware that few politicians are able to answer or advise in their own moral capacity–due to fear of voter offense or (dare I say) that they perhaps don’t have a moral capacity gauge to begin with. It is quite clear, that our free government thinkers are less likely to take a stand for You, God. They are led by the majority of congressional leaders and public relation advisors who intend to make certain that their agenda be fulfilled during their term in office. If every Christian who has any voice in this nation, would choose to pray publically, voice opinions based on biblical truth, and stop tip-toeing around right and wrong, then perhaps we could tilt America towards the vicinity of it’s only hope for a future. You alone. For there truly is good Christian leadership among the masses. The problem is that they are often avoided, and ignored by those whom take a larger role in deciding the fate of our nation. We still have the ability to show the world that there is One True God. That Jesus Christ is the authority on honesty, and You are ourchoice– for a moral compass that dictates truth and honesty in its rawest form.

As children we so often learn from observation of others. When our parents show us what is acceptable and what is not, then we learn quickly that no–truly does mean no. If we see them tell unrecognizable versions of a story to someone, and call it the truth, then they learn that black and white realities are only for some people. That each day’s answers and conversations are relative only based on how we choose to relay them to others. Do we not see that by telling someone, that the grass is blue, and the sky is green is blatantly deceitful? Then why would we choose to intentionally deceive someone about our daily activities, and gossip about others when we know that we do not have all of the facts? Surly someone can see right through us if we insist on such nonsense. If only we would remember that there is always someone who hears every word that proceeds out of our mouth. Someone who knows our thoughts that race through our minds, even before we choose to speak them aloud. That someone is You. Even when we have the confidence that no one else truly knows the “whole story”, we are forgetting that we are never alone. We are never completely private. For if You did not love us, then You wouldn’t be the God who is all-knowing and loves us in spite of our indiscretions. For whether the sky is clear or layered in fog…..our almighty God is never clouded by an opaque view.

The ultimate moral dilema then exists in our reputation. Just as the story of the boy who cried wolf, with consistency. He repetedly missled the towns people until….eventually the lie– did become fact. Are we so gullible that we will try this same act of treachery until we have become as the boy, and Satan is the wolf who will gobble us up for his own enjoyment? I have to admit that I have become a sceptic when it comes to accepting the words of a handful of individuals, whom I know have to embellish in order to speak. It truly does become a game of truth or dare and –winner takes all. All the extra insertions into every conversation, then becomes so trite, that we tend to listen with deaf ears. I fear that at some point in their lives, they will have something truly spectacular to announce to all, and no one will listen. If the truth becomes so opaque….that no one is concerned with the outcome from the lack of honest diligence, then we are certainly going to delight our truest enemy.

I pray that every word that proceeds out of my mouth…..will be carefully thought and processed before articulated. I know that we all tend to embellish family stories for the laughter effect, but it will be my newest goal, to think before I speak. I never want to disappoint my Savior. I don’t want to mislead or misdirect my children into thinking that we live in shades of grey….in an opaque lie…left up to interpretation. Give me strength and diligence to do my best and serve at the greatest capacity for the honor of my King.

Looking through the glass of honesty,

Gina

Whilst a dust storm raged outside i managed to get another couple of hours painting done this morning. Everything in the house is covered in a nice film of dust. I’ve never seen this type of storm in Sydney before, i think half of the desert has been blown over the city!! The next day or so will be spent sweeping it up. The painting is taking form now, i want to make the darks much more deep and dark and the lights nice and bright so there’s a bit of layering to happen yet.

Hi Girlies!

Is everyone getting excited for fall?

I know I’m excited for fall colours and fashions but I am not looking forward to the Vancouver rain

So, there are a few things to get to prepare yourself for your fall wardrobe, easiest and cheapest being new polishes!

SKIN TONES

Generally speaking we either have warm skin tones or cool. Warmer skin tones wear more gold jewelry, cold usually wear silver jewelry. (I look good in both so I have no idea what I would be lol) Nudes were great for spring, and you can carry them into fall as well. I predict the new ‘It’ colour would be opaque nude beige grey colour. Confused? Well I was buying polish for my friend and came accross this gorgeous colour by NYX called Karnak. On the rack it looked very plain and didn’t really stand out from amoung the bright summer colours, but I knew I had to have it, and I am sooo glad I bought it!

Since I still do not have a camera, I am borrowing a picture from shizzlenizzle

So gorgeous and it will actually make your fingers look longer if it is the right shade for your skintone

Greys are still super big this fall, I will be using the same greys I had from last year, I prefer the lighter opaque greys to the sparkly charcols… but that’s just me.

Sultry jewel tones are super hot for fall as well. Amethyst, Ruby, Sapphire, Onyx etc. And they compliment all skintones.

I am loving the moon mani! I am gong to try to do it myself today and see how easy or hard that is…

Photo CND

I think it looks so fab!

Speaking of fab, don’t forget to ENTER my contest for my Fab Fall jewelry from RCraven

Creativity has been defined in dozens of ways, but essentially it means the process by which novel b

Creativity has been defined in dozens of ways, but essentially it means the process by which novel but situationally appropriate outcomes are brought about. The field of creativity is in full bloom. Thousands of pieces of research have probed creativity. These researches have x-rayed such opaque matters as what kind of people are creative individuals; what motivates them; how creative people go about identifying, defining, and solving problems; what efforts are creative; what constitutes creative thinking, what techniques aid creative problem solving; what sorts of environments foster creativity; the assessment of creativity and the level of creativity of human efforts; etc.

The management of creativity in organizational settings is relatively far less researched, but is of great importance in a world of huge collective challenges and fierce competition. It fuses two fields—management and creativity. Management can be defined in many different ways, but broadly it is an organized effort at improving the functioning of organizations through such processes as the fixing of goals, the development and implementation of a strategy for achieving goals, the control of operations to ensure that goals are being met, the coordination of interdependent activities, the creation of structures and systems, the management of human resources as well as of other stakeholders and so forth.

As a field, the management of creativity has some distinctive aspects that differentiates it from general creativity. The management of creativity involves various collectives: dyads, teams, departments and divisions, organizations, associations of organizations, even governance systems of communities and societies. Even when one is discussing managerial creativity (the creativity of individual managers), the focus is on creativity displayed in a collectivity and relating to the various tasks that need to be performed in that collectivity. The work-related context channels creativity in important ways—towards achieving the goals of the collectivity and in discharging various management functions. The focus is not ‘pure’ art or science, or individual self-actualization, but on creative behavior in an organizational setting in which the organization’s goals, policies, structures, systems and so forth call the shots. Although individuals working in organizations certainly attempt to pursue their own interests, they do so keeping in mind organizational requirements, and this feature strongly influences the form that creativity takes in organizational settings.

Scientists from the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (France) the Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe

Scientists from the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (France) the Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe, the Technische Universität Berlin and the Helmholtz Zentrum Berlin (all Germany) were able to make fast processes inside opaque objects visible, by using white synchrotron radiation to perform hard X-ray radioscopy with high spatio-temporal resolution. The required imaging detector was constructed out of a standard indirect detector in combination with a Photron SA1 CMOS-based camera. Thus, it was possible to investigate pore coalescence and individual cell wall collapse in an expanding liquid metal foam: the rupture of a film and the subsequent merger of two neighbouring bubbles could be recorded with a time sampling rate of 40000 frames per second (25 micorseconds exposure time). The results as published in the Journal of Synchrotron Radiation (http://journals.iucr.org/s/issues/2009/03/00/kv5057/ – open access) allowed to determine that the pore stability in a liquid metal foam is driven by intertia and not the viscosity of the melt. This knowledge is crucial in order to adapt metal foaming process for industrial production.
