During a ride-and-drive press event, Jim Frederico, chief engineer for Buick, told journalists that the Buick Regal would get a manual transmission as an optional extra.

This transmission is presumably the same one as in the Opel/Vauxhall Insignia, a six-speed. The optional extra will be added shortly after the launch of the car.

I think this is brilliant news. There hasn’t been a manual Buick in ages, and the Regal seems like a fitting car to finally revive the manual with. Hopefully the range-topper under consideration will receive the manual option as well (Providing that it makes it into production in the first place).

After all the wait, General Motors has finally released the new 2011 Buick Regal sedan, which will make its public debut in Los Angeles tomorrow.

“The 2011 Buick Regal is like nothing you’ve ever experienced from this brand,” said Susan Docherty, general manager of Buick GMC. “The Regal is the next chapter in Buick’s transformation and will expand the portfolio to include a sport sedan.”

The 2010 Buick Regal, which will compete with the Acura TSX and Volvo S60, has a chassis and structural systems that were developed in Germany, giving it the handling and dynamics of a premium European sport sedan. The 2011 Regal will be offered with two engine choices including a 2.4L inline 4-cylinder engine making 182-hp and a maximum torque of 172 lb-ft. The base 2.4L model engine will be mated to a Hydra-Matic 6T45 6-speed automatic helping it deliver an estimated fuel-economy of 20/30 mpg (city/highway). The range-topping model will be powered by a 2.4L 4-cylinder turbocharged unit rated at 220-hp with a peak torque of 258 lb-ft. Mated to an Aisin AF40 6-speed automatic, it will return an estimated fuel-economy of 18/29 mpg.

During the unveiling of the 2011 Buick Regal in Hollywood, Car and Driver had a talk with Bob Lutz and found out the following from him.

A manual-transmission model (Did I mention that it’s snowing in hell?) and all-wheel drive are being considered, as well as a 335hp, AWD range topper. This, presumably, is the rumoured sports model. The Regal name was chosen because of its sporting credentials, and so this range topping sports model seems fitting. The Opel Insignia OPC/Vauxhall Insignia VXR has roughly the same specs as this range topper should have, so presumably it will be based on the sports model of the Insignia (OPC/VXR).

Also under consideration is a Regal Sport Wagon, a station wagon/estate car. A Buick version of the Opel/Vauxhall Insignia Sports Tourer was planned from the beginning, until the recession hit, so now that GM is recovering, it is a possibility. This model may come in sports trim as well.

I’m looking forward to this, I liked the idea of a sports Regal ever since the first rumours.

The North American version of the Buick Regal has finally been unveiled.

It is essentially a re-badged Opel/Vauxhall Insignia, but that isn’t by any means a bad thing, as the Insignia is a fine car. It will be offered with a 4-cylinder Ecotec engine, in 2.4L naturally aspirated and 2.0L turbocharged form. The 2.4L version will produce 182hp and get 30MPG on the highway, while the 2.0L version will produce 220hp and get 29MPG on the highway. Both engines will be hooked up to a six-speed automatic transmission. Sadly, there’s no manual option mentioned, though the press release mentions something about driver controlled shifting, perhaps a flappy-paddle gearbox. The 2.0L version will also come with “Interactive Drive Control System”, which will allow the driver to choose between four different suspension settings.

Looks brilliant to me, and hopefully the rumours of a sports version will become a reality, as well as my hopes for a manual transmission.

Press Release:

LOS ANGELES – On Thursday Buick will reveal the 2011 Regal sport sedan to customers in the L.A. area. Armed with turbocharged horsepower, a driver-selectable suspension system and a firm, European-tuned chassis, it delivers a driving experience that rivals the best import sport sedans in the segment.

“The 2011 Buick Regal is like nothing you’ve ever experienced from this brand,” said Susan Docherty, general manager of Buick GMC. “The Regal is the next chapter in Buick’s transformation and will expand the portfolio to include a sport sedan.”

The new Regal arrives in the second quarter of 2010, with its sights aimed squarely on competitors like the Acura TSX and Volvo S60. It has a longer wheelbase and greater trunk volume than those vehicles, along with standard features – including a six-speed automatic transmission, 18-inch wheels and OnStar – that aren’t offered standard on either competitor.

The Regal’s development is rooted in Germany, where the globally led engineering team created the award-winning Opel Insignia – the 2009 European Car of the Year. The Insignia has garnered more than 31 prestigious awards and is the best-selling midsize sedan in Europe. Regal will bring all of Insignia’s award-winning design, technology and European-inspired performance capabilities to the American market.

The Regal has already been a success on another continent, in China. It went on sale in December 2008 and more than 64,000 Regals have been sold there. Enthusiastic customers cite its sculpted, flowing design and responsive performance as the top reasons for purchase.

Regal at a glance

Regal will initially be offered in premium CXL trim only, with additional trim levels to be offered in the 2012 model year. The well-equipped Regal CXL includes the following as standard or available equipment:

* Standard 2.4L Ecotec direct injected engine rated at an estimated 182 horsepower (136 kW)
* Available 2.0L Ecotec turbocharged and direct injected engine rated at an estimated 220 horsepower (164 kW) – available late-summer 2010
* Both engines have a six-speed automatic transmission standard with driver-shifting control
* Standard 18-inch wheels (19-inch wheels standard with IDCS)
* Standard 12-way power, leather and heated driver seat; leather and heated passenger front seat; Bluetooth capability; XM Satellite Radio and OnStar.

Design story

The Regal’s sleek design blends the sweeping silhouette and proportions of a coupe in a progressive package that suggests motion from all angles. Great attention to detail complements that aggressive styling, with tailored applications of Buick’s signature design cues, such as the waterfall grille, select use of chrome trim and superior fit and finish of the exterior panels.

“Regal is all about great proportions,” said John Cafaro, design director, passenger car. “For example, with the fenders flared to wrap around the tires. It’s an aggressive stance that people aren’t used to seeing in recent Buicks.”

The car’s performance-oriented spirit is also conveyed in sleek, sculpted body-side detail and aggressive headlamps that further suggest motion. At the rear, an abbreviated deck and tucked-in body panels are the hallmarks of a contemporary sport sedan, with bold taillamps and their intricate lighting elements reinforcing Regal’s attention to detail. Eighteen-inch wheels are standard.

The sweeping design motif carries over to the interior, where the side panels flow uninterrupted into the instrument panel. The instruments have the look of expensive sport timepieces and are lit with ice-blue LED lights. The center stack, housing the climate and “infotainment” controls, was designed to allow for a lower, driver-centric instrument panel profile. Features such as a thick-rimmed, leather-wrapped steering wheel and firm, highly bolstered and leather-covered seats also support the sport-oriented driving experience.

“There is great design harmony between the exterior and interior,” said Cafaro. “The feeling of flow and motion carries through in an engaging manner that makes you want to take the Regal out to your favorite twisting road to see what it can do.”

A breakthrough interior

The Regal’s finely crafted, sporty and well-appointed interior builds on the exceptional attention to detail found in the Enclave and LaCrosse, blending signature styling cues with contemporary sport sedan aesthetics.

Regal’s firm, highly bolstered seats were benchmarked against the top import competitors for comfort and support, while a standard flow-through center console offers plenty of storage for passengers in the front and back.

Smart applications of technology are also hallmarks of the Regal, including details such as a multi-function controller on the center console for operation of the audio system, navigation system and the Bluetooth phone. The faceplate for the “infotainment” screen is set at a 30-degree angle to contribute to the car’s flowing interior design.

A new era in Buick design is also seen in the satin metallic, piano black and new, Kibo-patterned interior trim materials. Kibo is a rich, dark, progressively grained wood that lends an international flair to the Regal.

Under the hood

Unique with its all-four-cylinder powertrain, the Regal relies on the excellent horsepower-per-liter ratio of the Ecotec engine family to deliver smart, on-demand performance that is also very efficient.

Both the standard 2.4L engine and the available 2.0L turbo use direct injection technology to optimize performance, reduce emissions and maximize fuel efficiency. The 2.4L is the same engine offered in the Buick LaCrosse, but in the smaller, lighter Regal, it delivers more agile performance. The 2.0L turbo cements the sport sedan credibility of the Regal, with on-demand power comparable to a V-6, but the inherent efficiency of a four-cylinder. To ensure responsive power across the rpm range, the 2.0L turbo uses a twin-scroll turbocharger that builds power quickly at lower rpm.

Distinct, uniquely calibrated six-speed automatic transmissions are paired with each engine. Both offer driver shift control that enhances the sporty driving feel of the Regal.

Driving experience

The chassis and structural systems were developed in Germany and give the Regal the handling and dynamics of a premium European sport sedan, as well as the quiet, refined ride and road manners expected of a Buick. The body structure is one of the most rigid in the segment, which is approximately 25-percent stiffer than the previous Regal. This solid structure supports more precise suspension tuning and a quieter ride.

A relatively long wheelbase of 107.8 inches (2738 mm) gives the Regal refined, well-balanced vehicle dynamics and supports comfortable ride tuning. Additionally, an independent MacPherson strut-type front suspension with single-path mountings and hydraulic ride bushings; a four-link independent rear suspension; hydraulic rack-and-pinion steering; and optimized four-wheel disc brakes are optimized to the capability of the individual powertrains and tailored to the expected use by drivers. Models equipped with the 2.0L turbo engine, for example, feature larger brakes.

Latest-generation electronic stability control (ESC or StabiliTrak), anti-lock brake system (ABS), and traction control system (TCS) are standard with Buick’s innovative, Interactive Drive Control System (IDCS) real-time damping system offered on models equipped with the 2.0L turbo powertrain.

Interactive Drive Control System

Regal’s Interactive Drive Control System chassis technology (available on models with the available 2.0L turbo engine) offers enhanced vehicle stability and greater driving safety. It is designed to change the personality of the car based on the personality of the driver. A sophisticated driving mode control module continually monitors driving style utilizing yaw rate, lateral and longitudinal acceleration, steering wheel, throttle and vehicle speed. It defines the dynamic vehicle state, including acceleration, braking and cornering, to optimize chassis reactions. It also executes all of the IDCS driver selections.

All four dampers are electronically controlled and continuously adapt within milliseconds to the prevailing road conditions, vehicle movements and individual driving style. Chassis settings are adjustable by the driver, with Normal, Tour and Sport settings.

IDCS allows the driver to choose between three different operating modes that change the suspension settings, throttle response, shift pattern and steering sensitivity through the variable effort steering system. The three modes deliver three types of experiences:

* Normal – balanced and optimized for all driving situations
* Tour – optimized for comfort and relaxed driving on long journeys
* Sport – optimized for road holding; enthusiast driving .

Selecting “Sport” mode optimizes the car for dynamic driving, tightening the suspension and steering response and speeding up the reaction of the automatic transmission. The “Tour” mode is optimal for long-distance cruising or rough road conditions, providing an increase in comfort. “Normal” or Default Mode is the perfect all-around setting for daily commuting and city traffic. The other major benefit of Interactive Drive Control is that it automatically adapts Regal’s performance settings to individual driving styles. When a driver begins to drive more aggressively it will tighten the suspension and increase steering effort and change to a more aggressive throttle response. When the vehicle senses that the driver is doing relaxed cruising, it adjusts settings for rolling smoothness and comfort.

Apart from a more rewarding driving experience, IDCS also offers safety benefits in emergency situations. For example, if an obstacle must be avoided when the car is in Tour mode, various chassis sensors convey this to the DMC and the dampers are stiffened within milliseconds, delivering greater body control.

An Opel in the left lane? It now seems as likely as experienced during the election campaign the truth. But the flash is overtaking reality. Insignia OPC as he challenges Audi S4, BMW 335i and VW Passat CC.

So it was at least so far. But now, shaking precisely the plug end in severe crisis fight Adam Opel AG seeks vehemently at the gate of the sports elite and inlet. The Insignia OPC is designed to give the RÜSSELSHEIM besides access and respect. And to prove that lightning in the grill not only has become fond of brand emblem is, but may mean in the sequel even thunder. In this case, of 325 hp, four-wheel drive and 250 km / h top speed – electronically limited, as is well understood by itself.
Four sports sedans from Germany take the test winner
To help him is the VW Passat CC V6 4Motion aside. Both fashionable as well as motor goes beyond its brave brothers and step-by TDI under the bonnet shunting premium Passat would also rise to the top German athletes. They’re trying their special position and the athletic track, of course, defend territory by all means. The BMW 335i drives to extra-wheel drive (all other series) and on an automatic (DSG Passat with no extra charge), the Audi S4 arming themselves with dynamic steering and sport differential. Whether that enough?

We welcome the OPC Opel Insignia Sports Tourer in the select group of sports-folds. Its established competitors, Audi S4 Avant, BMW 335i xDrive Touring and VW Passat Variant R36 asking the novice to the exchange of blows.

Financially better-off heads of family with high affinity for sports cars do not have it easy sometimes. To do justice to their inclination, so are usually two cars in the domestic garages. A vernunftbetontes, often with plenty of room for your entire family, this is enough for a family holiday. The other is usually more to the play instinct of reason can then, in many cases be no question. To share the fun, which often offer the only two-seater Zweitfahrzeuge, it is difficult, and at least part of the family is left as nothing more than the lucky occupants of fun Mobils sad farewell hinterherzuwinken with his handkerchief. For a long time, many automobile manufacturers are aware of this dilemma and have their volume models, a version of the program, which sells leistungstechnisch like driving dynamics considerably from the rest of the model family. We gather the four hottest all-wheel combination representative of the German middle class to exchange of blows.

If it is the Audi S models, which are intended to satisfy the power hungry. The youngest member of the family has selected the 333-hp S4 Avant. At VW, the top models come from the R-series. The PS-Zenit selected for the Wolfsburgern the Passat R36 with 300 hp. From Munich we are accustomed sportiness. At BMW M GmbH, in fact provides the right amount of adrenaline, until now one could not yet decide about a touring version of the M3, and this will remain on the current state of knowledge as well. Sun joins a normal – wheel-drive – Model of the 3 Series to our comparison, with the 335i xDrive does not need with its 306 hp to hide. Last but not least since this year we welcome a new member in the dynamic middle class: the Opel Insignia OPC, which with its 325 hp – apart from the exotic, 377-hp Lotus Carlton (1990-93) – the most powerful production Opel ever is.
For all the perfection of the S4 Avant lacks a bit more soul
.
In advance, with many anxious early praise, we are particularly looking forward to it. Can he break the phalanx, consisting of Audi, BMW and VW,? On paper at least he has what it takes. Only the Audi still has a few more horsepower under the hood. In contrast to the S4’s predecessor was the engine in the current Ingolstädter cut by two cylinders. The current trend, the V6 is now zwangsbeatmet by a compressor. What Audi has since conjured from the Entwicklerhut is truly amazing. The smoothness of the V6 looks like from another planet. Between 2900 and stand ready 5300/min lush 440 Nm of torque. It turns out the engine of the more than 1.8 tonnes unladen weight of the wagon body shell even at tempos over 200 kph unimpressed. So technically complete, the S4 engine also presented, but it is missing something: For all the perfection he can miss a bit much soul. On the whole, he seems too sterile, almost synthetic – no comparison to the rough, vivid nature of the V8 predecessor.

Even the BMW 3 Series offers with its turbocharged six-run culture at its finest. He even goes to work a bit more sensitive than the Audi. That would lie between the two almost 30 hp difference, we can hardly believe it – even at higher speeds, he can compete well with the Audi. But only on the highway. On the track it looks different. Here, the Audi does the advantage of the optional drive select system with adaptive damping control. On our test track, the Sachsenring, traverses the S4, almost all of bends with significantly higher speeds. On the front axle of the Audi offers considerably more grip, the BMW 335i here shows a tendency to understeer. In addition, there is the Audi Rear much livelier, which proves particularly at the entrance to the Omega as an advantage – easily cross into the corner and then almost straight out again. The fact that the clock will stop after 1:43,83 min at the end, surprise us, given the strong performance of Audi’s not. 1:47,57 with the BMW here in the cold.
Despite the heavy weight of the Insignia Sports Tourer is not slow
The time of 1:47,52-Insignia OPC is only marginally faster than the Touring. With 1880 pounds empty weight, he embodies the worst car in our comparison. However, the Opel has to contend with its top-heavy to heavy. He also pushed into tight corners massively over the front wheels, since even helps the OPC mode, the damper system further. That is certainly on the one hand, the fun but not really beneficial. The engine comes with the weight of RÜSSELSHEIM not particularly doing fine. He turns not nearly so high-hearted, as do Audi and BMW. At the end of the BMW, but he can rein in what has essentially two reasons: First, it can come up with sharp gripping brakes, the other by two points with a larger wheel-tire combination. Like the Insignia also rolls the Passat R36 at 19 duties, but there is this to him only as special equipment, they are the Opel series.
The Passat R36 is the only one without mandatory ventilation into the race
The Passat occupies in our comparison of a small special position, because he is the only one that works without charge. What counts for him are capacity and speed. Is the former still in order, the 3.6-liter in terms of revving less convincing; above from 5500 tours of the VR6 is tough. We should therefore somewhat earlier – well before the red speed range – at the right of the rocker switch deliverable only by DSG R36-valances and surf rather pull on the torque shaft. The torque of the three mountains turbocharged engines, the Passat can wave but not overwhelmed. This is especially clear in the uphill section of the Sachsenring. Here, the VW has been losing its three competitors precious tenths of seconds. Because he ended up with 1:48,30 minutes recorded the slowest time of the day, as may also the DCC adaptive chassis with an excellent sport mode to change anything.

US-based General Motors has officially announced that the Opel Insignia will hit the US market and will be sold as the Buick Regal. Although details are limited, we do expect the Buick version to be very much identical to the version sold in China, that is also called the Buick Regal.

It is not clear when the sedan will arrive in the US but it is probably safe to expect it by the end of 2010 or beginning of 2011. Engine wise, it should be offered with turbocharged 4-cylinder powerplants as well as a V6.

The formula is clear: variants derived from the saloon, comfortable, functional and practical with e

The formula is clear: variants derived from the saloon, comfortable, functional and practical with excellent load capacity to give us our day to day. The Insignia Sports Tourer “begins” at 25,500 €, while the ST Exeo part from 22,790 …

With regard to variants of four or five doors, the price for having the body of these two related family in the world of middle-class sedan stands at about 1,300 €. A little extra effort that ultimately can give us great satisfaction if we think in terms of practicality and cargo space. Moreover, today the ugly image of the old family sedan that appeared with a “dollop” of luggage in tow, has evolved significantly better with design and style exercises far more visually appealing.
Outside and inside

Como always a matter of taste, but our protagonists are a living example of this enormous progress, retaining the right image of enjoying both the Insignia as the Exeo saloon and taking the body family in an elegant and harmonious, thanks to lines, lines and shapes consistent even embellish the back.

The size of both is the most varied in addition to the rear, due to increased rear overhangs. Much more for the Insignia Sports Tourer, the length of growing to 4.91 meters (80 mm more than the versions 4 or 5 doors), the Exeo ST, meanwhile, increased only 5 mm (4.66 m long in total).

Como mentioned before, the internal aspect is identical to the sedans. Both have a good ending, more careful in the case of SEAT as the feel of the materials and the adjustment of the various pieces. With the launch of the Exeo, the Spanish firm was amazed that effect; remember that inherits all the qualities of the old A4 and therefore has a very well done interior, never before seen in the brand, more like the premium segment that of the general middle class to which he belongs.

Question of space
Las things begin to change shape if we clear the space. The front seats and driving position are identical to their “brothers sedan (see impressions about the Insignia of the Exeo here and here) but it is in the back where we found big differences. The German model presents a considerable extent, especially as far as height is concerned, much higher than in the rest of the range.

In the ST Exeo to ceiling height increases and still sins just being a vehicle with rear seats a little space in relation to its exterior length. So there is no doubt in the Insignia they are more spacious and airy, including also the width and the site for the legs.

To get around
Cómo not the most attractive of these vehicles is their luggage. The Opel is the largest in the entire Insignia range, with 540 liters capacity, 1,530 L if hit by the rear seats. Thanks to the enormous gate which boasts one of its great virtues, we can easily make all of our belongings, although we must pay attention to the curvature of the roof (which sometimes makes it difficult to load objects at higher altitudes). There are plenty of holes in the sides or double bottoms are relatively deep. You can also install the package called “Flex Organizer an option (for 162 €) which includes rails, networks and a system to place the floor of the trunk at various heights to suit the needs of what we carry.

EN as the trunk of the Exeo, it has a volume about 100 liters less, 442 (1,354 if you break down the rear seats) and its “mouth” is not so great. Curiously, is less capacity than the Exeo saloon (18 liters more) if it only charges up to estor which covers baggage. Taking advantage of all the headroom to the roof and obviously at the expense of visibility, the volume would certainly be considerable; 562 l. To their credit, we can say that has more regular shapes, which can ease the burden of certain objects on occasion. It also provides various holes scattered around the sides and also has a double bottom. We can either install the “Storage Package” (123 €) which includes drawers beneath the front seats, a bag and a large network skiboxes over a network on the right side of the trunk itself.

The loading lip is similar in both. With respect to the ground, we should at least raise the objects about 60 cm to introduce them. Another curious question is found in the Insignia Sports Torurer; The taillights come under the gate so that Opel had to install another small game in the trunk (of the Exeo, as normally occurs, are “cut” and remain unchanged any).

Mechanical, consumption and impressions up
Many mechanical options are available for both, in fact the Exeo just introduced a new 120-hp version that is located as a stepping stone for access to the diesel range. We selected the most powerful engine in the case of the model of the Martorell plant and which is second from the podium (second only to the V6 with 260 hp) in the case of German car, both petrol.

“Our” Opel Insignia Sports Tourer equates a 2.0 turbo engine 220 hp. It is a mechanism that responds forcefully, and in collecting certain abruptness in the power delivery to the right pedal is depressed fully. However, it gives a feeling of acceleration as you would expect from an engine of similar power, perhaps in part because of good insulation has been achieved in the carrier. Either way, the benefits do not leave any doubt, the car can accelerate from 0 to 100 in 7.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 236 km / h.

EL propellant our test unit consisted Exeo ST block two-liter four-cylinder Volkswagen Group. In this SEAT, delivers an output of 200 hp. Its operation is more enjoyable, especially as their best response is low. It seems to be more elastic and inside the cabin is the car more speed with astonishing ease. In fact, going very recoveries at par and is up to 3 tenths quicker in maneuvering the sprint.

In any case, we believe that neither of these engines are the most sold, and it is logical that the potential buyer of favoring less powerful mechanical and more “rational”. Having a very large reserve of acceleration under any circumstances (and for many even exaggerated in a family) has its downside, inevitably centered on the theme of consumption. In a joint travel about 150 kilometers, it was impossible to lose 10 to 9 liters, respectively, data on the other hand very good when you consider we are talking about 200 hp or more. Circulating in gears and throttle when driving was possible in “sport” by winding roads, are triggered by consumption of 18 liters per 100 km on average.

Revolutionized Opel sedan when he took his new badge, a true bestseller that has meant the most successful brand of lightning in recent years.

Successor to the Vectra, which does not maintain or the name, the badge is a superior car to match its best rivals. The visual quality is above the other models in the brand and the design has shelved inside straight lines that characterize the current Astra, Vectra, .. Still not up to premium brands, but neither should it be, your competition are C5, 407, Mondeo, Accord, .. to which you can deal without hesitation.

The exterior design is beautiful, smooth lines, no overloaded and very aerodynamic in front adaptive xenon lights are a good cover letter and statement of intent. The Opel Insignia is a step to the page and opening a new range of products.

Motor
The two-liter engine that Logo is an old acquaintance, and that is an update of that already bore the Antara, in this case in its 160-horsepower version. It just sounds soft and allows high motorway cruising, but his poor remains low, from a standing start with the car loaded clutch means pull. That if, by keeping the engine above 1,800 rpm, the answer is swift and decisive.

This engine even has a respectable number of horses, is better off without forcing it, if we look great acceleration is more coarse.

Consumption is online from other similar engine power, in our usual route yielded a figure of 6.2 liters per 100.

Behavior
The badge features an adaptive suspension system with three modes, Sporty, comfortable and Adaptive or automatic, the differences are minimal between the two, we must recognize that this diesel is the front suspension harder than gasoline models, we assume by increased engine weight. This detail makes the steering behavior is more accurate but that the filtering of road irregularities is less.

The badge is not even remotely a sports sedan offers good performance but for example a Seat Exeo is well above dynamically.

In Wheeler Highway is an excellent, well established, can not hear your engine and allows good cruise.

Size matters in city and as with all cars of a certain size must be more attentive, since the visibility is regular, basically because of some small mirrors and a rear window too small.

On the road is a faithful traveling companion, without forcing the pace comfortable and go without tipping into the turns.

Inside
Our tester was the top-end with leather seats, woodgrain detail, center console brown, hardworking and smart.

Inside is where we see the leap of Opel design, since the change in the exterior and began to take shape in the Corsa.

The materials not be of high quality have a good presence, buttons, ergonomics, … graze at high altitudes.

The Tablier is well designed, with easy to use controls and a proper distribution, everything is handy and easy to interact.

The front seats are very comfortable, offering all kinds of regulations, and allow to reach the wheel well.

Behind there are good levels, it is comfortable for two, the central square is too hard to travel.

The boot as with many large sedans is but a small manhole, you should opt for the five-door and trunk must have this piece and can not try it is a shame.

Price / quality
Discuss today’s price is wishful thinking since all brands offer discounts on their succulent and Opel models is no exception, this model has a list price of around 30,000 euros, but pica is a good product, providing a capability representation and driving pleasure.

Turning point in the history of Opel – to be the new German-American group on behalf of Insign

Turning point in the history of Opel – to be the new German-American group on behalf of Insignia. So far our car seemed just a turning point in marketing the brand.

To some, the new Insignia of the former “luxury” model brand, Opel Omega. He had been like a big sedan also went on the same concept. Direct predecessor but was Vectra which drove off the assembly line recently.

But enough of comparisons with the past. Opel Insignia we find a completely new car and the manufacturer takes it so well. Until his success put much strength and hope. And even though we have the Insignia and its estate variant passed, the answer to the crucial question we have not known. And she added: Insignia is really so amazing?

The first course will take every appearance. Insignia is, in our opinion, very beautiful car, which nearly matches the visage prémiovému segment. Although sedan (liftback respectively) can be measured with boldly emerging category of “coupe-sedan” (Volkswagen Passat CC) and other “ladných ‘cars. One of the admirers even noticed the similarity of the silhouettes Lexus GS, and we are not against even this comparison.

We hoped that we will not stop for a nice appearance. Therefore, we do not hesitate and immediately sat down behind the wheel. Regarding the shape and quality of interior materials used, no significant opposition. Design dashboard corresponds with the exterior is a modern and elegant. Sometimes a little hard plastic zaskřípají and could cause hodnotněji (especially on the center console), but we will not criticize something that bothered us so much. The only objection to the dashboard, we have enormous respect in the middle area – a large center console panel comprises four dozen buttons and four rotary controls, which, as you may guess, just does not rationality.
Good standard
Regarding ergonomics, Insignia did not escape anything in the standard class, including deficiencies. Although overall we have no comfort behind the wheel key opposition bothered us a short track wheel shift in both axial and radial axis. Fortunately, electrically adjustable seat is doing much better and embraces most of the characters perfectly, but the pedal bracket is another factor limiting the displacements.

So if you sit down behind the wheel and we’ll want to make the necessary comfort, while maintaining the pedal movement to extremes, we are left holding a wreath wheel pretty from a distance. It follows that if we decide to turn the wheel stronger (which is not in use on the road infrequent phenomenon), then we have to lean forward.

In this position, the steering wheel is almost a rule that his crown overlap indicator coolant and fuel gauge. Insignia solves this problem in a simple and brilliant way with-moving equipment to the top of the chapel during the whole journey to see. And lest we forget the essentials: a small three-spoke steering wheel unusual shape, we kept well.
More than average

If we Insignia evaluated in terms of tonnage, would be not critical. The middle class holds a high standard. Adults are about to come in the relative cool of four, while as usual, the front seats to settle everyone.

Rear seats on the front as well as some not, but that is not anything that was impossible due to the silhouette of the car to understand. Because of the shape of the rear door is slightly complicated by the entry and convenience, you do grew by an average figure, say 180 centimeters in size.

Pleasant surprise, despite the sloping rear of the trunk is quite large in size with a volume of 500 liters (rear seat folded down even 1010 liters), which is also easily accessible to the sedan fairly large hole.

Two Faces of the engine
The 2.0 Turbo is his strongest performance 220 hp four-cylinder under the hood insignia above it in the menu is just six-cylinder 2.8-liter V6 Turbo with 260 performances and 325 horses. But even if we did not have such power, our 220 hp (162 kW at 5300 rpm), enough to hbitému quite a ride.

While it is true that the first day of riding our strong unit seemed a little dull and lazy. But then we figured out that there are five thousand revolutions from above, and do adapt their behavior. The truth is such that the maximum power 220 hp to reach quite high (5300 rpm) and so we felt it is torque. Opel shows the almost flat curve with a peak of 350 Nm between 2000-4000 rpm. As we would with such a car, or did not go – if the engine runs under 3000 rpm, the sweep is dull. That is why we consider acceleration 0-100 km / h in 7.6 seconds for an excellent and slightly unexpected result.

The not-quite-ready expression influences weight 1600 kilograms, but please easy handling and surprising lightness of the car when cornering. Pleasant is a more rapid response to the servo drive. Overall, the car offers a decent sports facilities, but if you really clean racing natures, would be worthwhile to invest in some versions of the OPC.
Aging tires
Tuning the chassis itself is not bad (we mentioned it in the first impressions), but the work had permanently degrades ridiculously large 20-inch wheels. The luxury German roads would probably be extremely happy, but in reality Czech okresky We regret the hardness follows tuned chassis . thin rubber strip (probably stick), which looks like a tire, not enough recapture any of the inequalities that we offer Czech roads.

First ride: Opel Insignia Sports Tourer – read HERE

The first ride in the car: Opel Insignia – read HERE

Yes, in terms of appearance are big wheels necessity. Moreover, we understand that obligate the tires thirteen balloons in full profile, given the size of the valve may be mounted either did not go. But the size of seventeen inches (ie the smallest aluminum disks that Opel offers) would be for our road was more than enough.

Surely you are wondering what the Insignia in the exercise of its consumption. We also interested and we will keep some disappointment about the outcome of 11 liters per hundred kilometers, and if you expect that in practice, get under ten, and more to forget. And if so, does not make sense to have under the hood of this herd. We are moving most of the test week, about 12 l/100 km. And it drew only eleven stokilometrový trip to okreskách.
Peak Engineering
That Opel Insignia offers a wide range of technical vychytávek is not necessary to stress. Adaptive stabilization technology FlexRide gives drivers a choice of comfortable mode “Tour” mode or “Sport”. No significant difference, however, we did not observe, perhaps because its vast wheels as we felt in the sport mode all the time.

On the contrary, auto lights are almost flawless guarantee that you’ll never have to touch the driver. Adaptable to both day and night, but i know when they can afford to let remote lamp and where.

And the greatest advertising crib? Damn reading road signs. Communicated marketing function, which frankly does not have any significant practical importance, has perhaps the Opel a deeper sense that we can not see. But as you can see, in this test in reading road signs Not a word – our highest trim Cosmo him as not.
Depressing numbers
Opel Insignia starts with the 550 thousand crowns, which may seem relatively favorable price. If We do, however, the foundation, the amount is growing rapidly. For Insignia strong dvoulitrem Cosmo equipment of the highest pay at least 795 thousand crowns, and if you want to enjoy luxury like we in the test car, open your wallet even more.

If you plan to travel in the skin, have 60 thousand, navigation system with DVD player comes to another 45 thousand. Technology FlexRide raises the price of 25 thousand připlácí also be electrically adjustable driver seat, in this case, 15 thousand. And that the work was finished, the list appears more metallic fittings, parking sensors, and the inconvenient location twenty rounds.

You may also be dismayed what is needed to pay extra? The more you will regret it when you look at the price tag. This is where the test piece without climbed ten thousand crowns per million. And that’s quite expensive salvation, especially when one realizes that this nice and quite a good car is nothing fundamentally not escape from the high standard of the current middle class. And when we recall that the market is stronger players. And cheaper.

The author is editor ZaVolantem.cz server.

The successful middle class car caught even the coveted title of ‘Car of the Year 2009′.
AUTO The Opel Insignia (from 24,299 euros) it took 331 cars divided into nine categories. The contest was organized by the website Autoscout24.be in more than six million Internet users. More than 250,000 people took their vote, a very large number for an election of a car. That other election of the Car of the Year, but such a limited wreath of automotive journalists vote. But they all vehicles driven or is not the case with the electorate on the web site.

It is remarkable that a modal family car the best scores. A sign that many car enthusiasts opt for reasonableness.

The election of the Insignia as the finest and best car is a heartening for Opel. The German brand is experiencing a turbulent period since the parent company General Motors Opel repels. The Opel Insignia has sharply reversed the rudder. The middle car was a totally new design and an innovative accessory that has so far not been offered in this segment. To recognize the signs in the car the speed allowed. The driver receives the information icons on his dashboard. The Insignia also has a large intelligent lighting that automatically turns off the lights do not dazzle oncoming traffic. The brightness is also adjusted to the street.

The positioning of the Insignia between the Vectra and Signum is a real hit found. The car replaces the Vectra, but it is also one step higher on the social ladder. In time, the Insignia also loved the little Signum replaced. A larger model is not planned.

Opel has very quickly break the Sports Tourer launched version making the sales success is perpetuated.

Of the 150,000 sold Insignia’s versions are 40,000 break. In our country the great Opel good for 6100 copies which breaks 2200.

There was also a ranking of countries prepared. The Insignia wins across Europe and is the primus in the Netherlands and Germany.

The Belgians and the French find the ultimate sports car Audi R8 (from 109,020 million) the most popular car.

The most powerful street until recently under the brand portfolio, General Motors is a gracious beast.

Opel fit to celebrate the first decade of existence of its range with the launch of top sports Insignia OPC, a precision instrument that marks several firsts and superlatives important performance division but also for the brand in general.

The other day I had the opportunity to test the most powerful car ever Opel range in a suitable context – the Hungaroring, the circuit that hosts for years in Formula 1 Grand Prize of Hungary.

Each journalist currently had available a copy Insignia OPC circuit for three laps complete. Much less than they would have liked each of those present – including the author – but enough for a brief assessment of the values of the car.

Eventually, ten kilometers (they were actually 13.1) on the runway where, just this summer, Felipe Massa, Ferrari scuderiei pilot, was to wrap accounts with sport and maybe even the world, are , consider new, more useful for this sort of exercise, but a road Bucharest-Constanta, for instance.

Insignia OPC is “armed” with a turbocharged V6 petrol engine, 2.8 liters, which develops 325 horsepower and 435 Nm (peak torque). The torque is transmitted to wheels through a manual gearbox with 6 1 reports.

Insignia is the first car created by the OPC standard equipped with adaptive all-wheel drive and rear electronic limited-slip differential. The car is fitted with electronic FlexRide, which adjusts shock absorbers, the degree of assistance to the steering wheel and accelerator pedal sensitivity according to the preferences of the wheel.

How to choose between “Standard” (default when starting the engine), according to the roads daily, how “Sport” suspension becomes more rigid and the roll is reduced, or how particular “OPC” – at which point the chassis settings enter mode performance.

Engineers’ Opel Performance Center “in Rüsselsheim and boots were created with Pirelli P Zero 245/40 tires, which are provided with wheels 19 inches. For 20-inch forged wheels are available optional 255/35 tires.

Insignia OPC is equipped with Brembo front brakes with larger discs, perforated, 355 mm, aluminum calipers with four pistons, Brake pads and high performance.

The car sprints from zero to 100 km / h in just six seconds and can accelerate to 250 km / h (should succeed even better if one did not exist electronically limited).

Spoilerele, thresholds and huge wheels admits of no doubt – the line stands at Hungaroring three cars are well aligned with what they know … from those who are to restrain them.

On board, similar situation: the seats had shown at the same time, great fashion, are the main responsible for the implementation of sport ambiance.

In keeping with the destination machine, but for some reason objective – better driver thigh support -, the seat was lowered by 15 millimeters compared to the standard rate for all other versions Insignia. Ample seat and steering wheel adjustment facilitates easy retrieval of the ideal driving position.

The key, under the hood Insigniei jump to life, with a cultivated sound, but very distant burliness V6. Go. Overcome line stands and falling on the track. The first tour is set in the “Standard”, more to bring the temperature of the tires, but not the rate of scrolling. The machine fits nicely on turns, but at speeds with which they are addressed, the wheel seems more assistance than we have imagined. A certain perplexity is the intalează after a few corners – why we get so good? … Where are all the over three hundred of “pony”?

The second round is coming faster than we wanted. Meanwhile, the tires were warm and our instructor communicated by radio to press the “Sport” on the board. Perhaps because of adrenaline, the differences between this setting and prior seem shy. Even so, some autosugestiei role, partly because they see that we remember the order of cornering, size speed. Rolling make room on their “turn” larger sites, where, driven and our enthusiasm, and a trend is slowly subviratoare.

Last crossing the line right next to the speakers. The voice sounded broken instructor in communication: “Gentlemen, press the button OPC” (Gentlemen, press the “OPC”! “- In translation). This time, it is clear, a shiver runs through the electronic innards of the car – the steering wheel becomes harder and the engine screams like a wounded beast (actually, pedal just been reached, but the speed went up to the red precipitate). In turns addressed vibrators, body is supported with minimum zvâcniri. It takes a lot of trouble to “convince” Insignia to break less grip, on behalf of the show, which will not take too long. It is a pleasure to feel how the beast works kind of hurry to redistribute torque to the wheels with the best grip.

Insignia close your eyes to the mistakes of the wheel, and if it does not have presence of mind to hit recovery maneuver, lie promptly helping hand saving. And this is undoubtedly great, so just that, given his role on earth is like it would be better higher than would be appropriate.

Once kombiaki tempted primarily practicality, today, to reflect the temperament of the owner. Modern combo created with a view to carrying considerable loads, but the success of a suitably stylish body. In our comparison check check Honda Accord Tourer, Sports Tourer Opel Insignia and Toyota Avensis wagon, which combo will be more stylish?

Imagine this situation: the elegant man with the staff receives your luggage. Whom przekazalibyście her bags – and the guy in ogrodniczkach volleyball podkoszulce whether schludnemu militant in uniform decorated with gold buttons? The answer is obvious: a boy in a well-tailored jacket could not have opportunities for a competitor, even if his friend did not want, which is unlikely tip. Unfortunately, not all afford the luxury service, but if so the opportunity, I get their teeth a little luxury without the aid …

For example, such as in the case of our station wagon from the stables of Opel, Honda and Toyota. Insignia Sports Tourer, and the Accord Tourer Avensis wagon are essentially the cars to the popular middle-class. Buying them, do not hit the exclusive club of holders of Mercedes or BMW. But they look so without fear that anyone entrust them with their suitcases!

Is visible in the photo has lost three of something in comparison with their “brothers” in other versions nadwoziowych who do not have to carry more luggage? If anything, it’s really not much. Nietuzinkowi baggage not given up elegance, and even when they are loaded on the roof, does not recognize them to refinement. In less distinguished by Honda. Auto can only carry up to 1252 l luggage, which, as in this type of combo is disappointing. Like the 436 kg payload and maximum braked trailer weight of just 1100 kg.

Opel to be loaded more room, but this reflected badly on the comfort felt by the passengers back seat – they have less space for themselves. Insignia may be on its board to take 1530 L product, and their optimal deployment easier by the fact that after the back bench seat is a flat surface. When placing heavy items in the trunk and caution is advised. Moving the rear edge of a long kręgosłupowi harm.

And what will be Toyota? Supplied with passengers luggage capacity Avensis is almost identical to
for Insignia, but after the couch Toyota swallow “for 160 liters more.

All three cars, compared to present themselves during the journey with great grace. Delight masterfully aligned powertrain, including a strong diesel engine and the smooth functioning of the “machine”. Of course, the test participants share some of the differences, but they are subtle. In the Honda example, having a high culture, work unit interacts with a somewhat outdated already five-speed automatic transmission, resulting in a loss of power during the internal uślizgów and gear changes. Accord 150-horse as it turns out that this statement najoszczędniejszy. As the only satisfied with the test niecałymi 7 l/100 km.

160-unit Riding oplowska Honda engine gives way to a bit in terms of culture, but it produced power is transferred to the wheels via a six-”machine”. Violent wdepnięcie accelerator produces rapid response gear and the car with force pulls forward. This torque (350 Nm) is available at 1750 revs, and it is felt.

Also, 150-hp engine of Toyota is one of the cost, but on the background of his competitors after the addition of turbo-gas reacts with a longer delay. Superczysta unit, equipped with a catalyst of oxides of nitrogen, it seems very pleasant to the ear ringing, even when charged solid combo. Unfortunately, the turnover falls rather sluggishly. It is a pity that the machine very eager to run down from higher to lower. Dynamic acceleration, little turnover is virtually impossible, and yet flexible to love diesels. Avensis suspension could also be better tuned. Particularly overcoming inequality makes him cross the inconvenience.

In total, Toyota lacks vitality, a feeling that deepens insensitive steering. Insignia chassis is very different from the competitor used. Zestrojono them dynamically, but you can not say that it was too hard. Large Opel cope well when cornering at high speed – the steering responds well enough, although sometimes the correction of the track is not too mild. Insignia suspension behaves exceptionally “smart” – filter out inequalities, but not the signals that help the driver in the sense of the car. Opel combo najwdzięczniej maintained along the route, where the impressive stability and peace.

A Honda? Yes, she also likes turns and allows a precise result, but its suspension does a bit more restrained than the Opel. Especially on the motorway, it lacks sensitivity. While on the road, with little wastage shyly shakes her body, but the holes in surfaces up angry roars. It is a pity, because the front seats impeccably executed, and low noise level inside the wagon hondowskiego ensure comfort and experience the sound from the high shelf.

There is no doubt: Accord aspires to “athlete” among the combo, as evidenced not only to a small trunk, but also tuning of the suspension. Cat out of the bag comes during deceleration. Stopping distance from 100 km / h after heating the discs in the case of the Honda as much as 3 m longer than needed Opel and Toyota. This is a large blemish on the – seemingly – an elegant repute “porter” who dreams of moving up to the premium class. And it is surprisingly at the same road.

SUMMARY

Theoretically, a duel to win the Toyota station wagon should be given the boot capacity. Unfortunately, the Avensis offers against rivals much less joy from the pursuit, so in my private ranking remain Honda and Opel. We are happy to wsiadłbym Accord because it is a truly successful car, but Honda’s marketers make the mistake of trying to convince customers that the brand recognized worldwide as a popular premium segment, as evidenced by the high price. Well, Honda is not the Audi, which is why mess nose will not help – in this situation I would choose the Opel, but no less subtle-sounding engine.

Insignia has a long-awaited success for Opel. Design and perceived quality has earned brand new customers without scaring away the old. Opel was bold NOK to choose a fine line ahead of common sense. Therefore, you are cars that are perceived more spacious, but at the same time you have a car with character.

Nine ways

With the Insignia, Opel was the first out with a headlight that lights up in nine different ways. If you drive fast is the light long and narrow. If you drive slowly spread it out more to the sides. In the 30-zone light the extremely wide to help the driver to detect hazards. When you turn the lights follow with. All according to the advertisements. We summarize it briefly – it works. In addition, xenon lights rarely good.

Our previous reviews of Insignia has bragged of driving comfort, but at the same time, some in anBil team asked us for more sporty feel. Flex Ride to NOK 8900 will help a bit on it. When you get three settings that affect the steering and suspension, a plaster stability technology that adjusts the car after driving behavior.

Flex Ride

We pressed the “Sport” and immediately called for instruments red. Soon we noticed that the car was a little stiffer and more solid management and cash. Automate Giret accepted the higher engine speeds before the gearshift. “Tour” is almost the opposite. When it is all about comfortable freight along the road. In other words – also FlexRide works.

“Opel Eye” camera is in the windshield that follows the road signs and alerts from if you change file. Doses of you and the vehicle crosses a marked line in the road, so plinger it. Several vehicles have such devices. Useful is it at all. The usefulness of the “Opel Eye” we are a little more doubt, but I guess it’s nice that the car remembers the speed limit when you switch between 60, 70, 80 and 90-zones. “Opel Eye” can quickly save you a fartsbot.

The conclusion? Technology that works is fun. It makes Opel Insignia yet fun.

The seat pan, backrest shell and crossbar were designed using BASF’s broadly applicable ULTRASIM simulation package. The plastic parts are now replacing the steel frames that used to be employed. The performance seat lends itself for high-volume serial production and will be exhibited together with the Opel Insignia OPC in Hall B4, Stand 4108, near BASF’s stand (B4, Stand 4308) at the Fakuma trade fair, from October 13 to October 17 in Friedrichshafen, Germany.

Thanks to the ULTRASIM program package, BASF developers were able to design the parts so as to meet the requirements set by Recaro and Opel: low weight, high mechanical strength, outstanding ergonomic properties and a sporty look. Since this simulation tool allowed the seat structure to be predicted on the computer, it was possible to reliably dimension and optimize the plastic parts as to crash requirements. The seat pan makes use of Ultramid B3ZG8, a very tough and yet sufficiently stiff PA6 that ensures high energy consumption values. Ultramid B3G10 SI is employed in the large, free-standing backrest shell as well as in the crossbar. This material, which is likewise optimized in terms of its crash behavior, yields good surfaces in spite of its high glass fiber content, successfully meeting the requirements made of backrests for the interior of vehicles. The very precise characteristic values needed for simulations employing ULTRASIM are available for these two materials. Particularly the aspect of processability, in other words, the flow properties of the material, plays an important role when it comes to manufacturing the high backrest. The insert for the backrest shell is made of Neopolen P 9225 K (EPP), an energy-absorbing foam that also covers edges and serves as a module carrier for motors and seat components such as the spinal column support.

At the time of the K 2007 plastics fair, the then newly founded BASF Competence Team for Seats, along with Recaro and Opel, unveiled a prototype made of various BASF materials. This broad-based competence in material and component development is now being put to direct use in the serial development of the Opel Insignia OPC seat, which also complies with GM’s global requirements in terms of crash behavior.

The new seat will be showcased together with the Opel Insignia OPC at the Fakuma trade fair. More than 20 individual components made with BASF plastics are serially installed in this car model, ranging from the lower bumper stiffener (LBS) and the high-strength engine mounts made of Ultramid, to numerous interior parts made of Terblend N (ABS+PA) and Miramid (PA), all the way to instrument panels made of Elastoflex (PU) and exterior applications such as mirror housings made of Luran S (ASA).

Presented with great fanfare in London a year ago, the Insignia was assigned the onerous task of succeeding the Vectra, and enhance the image of the Opel family sedan segment. Try it seems that perform brilliantly, having already won the coveted Car of the Year 2009. We therefore wanted us to do our own opinion on that, it seems, diverts customers (both private and corporate fleets) coats of arms prestigious as BMW or Audi.

It must be said that Insignia can rely on a strong argument to seduce her style, dynamic and classy at once. Exit therefore the angular lines of the Vectra replaced with pretty curves, with taut lines and profile boosted by a roofline tapering backwards.

In making its revolution Insignia, Opel has a clean slate at the point of deleting the alias Vectra shelves. It must be said that if the first two generations had sold quite well, so as to exceed the regular Volkswagen Passat on the whole European market, the third generation was never convincing, even families buying Opel habit. But his style (especially four-door version) had anything enticing, its completion had passed and obtained the approval was rather bland.

But in addition to the thorough overhaul of its model in the family segment, Opel was mainly there to rebuild a new identity. The communications department then put the dishes in the main to keep the excitement around its new model, either through workshops, teaser, false spyshots, etc. …

The grand finale was the presentation of self, down from his flying saucer crashed on to Potter Fields in the heart of London show grand, enormous technical resources, concert quartet Bond … Opel had left nothing to chance for the presentation of self before an audience of journalists and guests conquered. And this seems to have paid as now, the Insignia truste hit the charts better sales in Europe, and even businesses looking for an office for their car fleets are not mistaken.

Moreover, several of my friends and acquaintances watched the car in a rather stunned, astonished that such a car can be stamped with the blitz. It must be said that the car an aura natural to us that Opel had more long accustomed. The hatchback offers the same false airs of “cut and four-door, very in tune with the times.

Because of course, as the Vectra, the Insignia is one of the few sedans to be offered in four and five-door (with the Ford Mondeo and Mazda 6), and of course to break. As the Vectra also a muscular version OPC (Opel Performance Center) will boost the range in the coming weeks.

Another workhorse of the Insignia is its technological content. Opel willed, and has made hi-tech. Thus, we find an armada of driving aids, content technology for comfort but also the famous lighting AFL (Adaptive Forward Lighting) instantly adjusts to driving conditions.

On board, too, the Insignia makes a clean sweep of the past and move upmarket is clearly discernible. The atmosphere is plush and warm now, the materials, good workmanship, and equipment, ultra-complete. And if in addition the design is neat …

Climbing aboard the Insignia, it was a little like ending up in an aircraft cockpit. The design of the dashboard in effect between the front seats into two separate cavities and the center console is studded with knobs and buttons of all kinds, which must be added the commands scattered on the wheel and commodos. Not easy to find.

It must be said that engineers have preferred to install a multimedia system in the style of BMW’s iDrive, which can be operated from two dials: one on the center console, and the transmission tunnel. The problem is that, as both perform the same functions, one of the two would suffice, which would have freed some space and thus aerate somewhat console.

Fortunately, the grip is proving very intuitive.

Of course, in trying to compete with premium German sedan, Opel also aped the endless lists of options. In our trial version of “sport” midrange, Opel had seen fit to add a host of options strengthening the technological aspect of the car. And if some options are quite justified, others are part of the pettiness that we have used Audi and consort. Thus, the Insignia is paying her alarm, her parking sensors, the driver’s seat or electronic, the electronic parking brake (what’s this?). A bit stingy on a car already charged, excluding options, 29,600 euros including VAT (28,900 euros including VAT for Insignia Cosmo in France, to equipment more or less equivalent).

For the rest, we still entitled to the inner perforated black leather, with the AFL (which is an option, of course), Paint Metallic Gray Technical and Sight & Light Pack (rain sensor, rearview mirror anti-glare)

Who says sports version, said bucket seats (or semi-bucket at least). Those of the Insignia offers a secure fit in all circumstances and show, in addition, very comfortable. At the rear passengers are a little less spoiled since they have their ease at the elbows and legs, larger (more 1m80) will head down if they want to avoid rubbing the ceiling. The ¾ rear visibility is not optimal, due to heavy amounts C.

The trunk is very large and easily accessible thanks to its wide opening tailgate (a rear trunk is also available). On a capacity of 520 liters, it only makes 20 gallons a Sports Tourer estate version, but has 20 more than the sedan to “safe”.

One last tip: the remote is equipped (as often now) a button to do that unlock the tailgate. Avoid using it and drop your keys in the trunk when shopping store for as soon as you close it locks automatically! I say that’s so you do not spend two hours in the supermarket parking lot waiting Opel Assistance …

Having toured the owner, it remains only to check how the progress made by Opel in design, life on board and technology are reflected once behind the wheel. Then, turn the ignition key, and away!

The engine that equips our trial is the common-rail turbo diesel 160 horsepower, which represents the supply of diesel midrange of the Insignia. Other power levels are offered 110 hp, 130 or 190 horses.

But with 350nm of torque, the CDTI of 160 horses showed well enough to take the good 1500 pounds of car, although, in truth, the engine behaves more like a good 140 horsepower, because it does not feel all the power expected.

In family sedan cut for the road, the Insignia appears naturally sovereign. comfort is royal, and road imperfections, though swallowed by the controlled suspensions.

Because, like most of its competitors, Opel Insignia with its three distinct settings in behavior: a “sport” mode, which firms up suspension, steering and accelerator response, a way “around” who, otherwise, grows longer the ride Sunday, and of course it is possible to disable these modes and go “automatic”, which is the best compromise in daily use.

Once in the winding roads, the Insignia still astonishes. Its chassis is safe and effective, and can put the bends and hairpins with an ease which we were not used at Opel … especially with the “sport” mode active. The management even more consistent and the suspension firmed run perfectly when body movements and provide superior accuracy when part of the curve. No worries either the reacceleration, where the pair of 350nm happening on the ground without any worries (on dry pavement, at least).

Soundproofing was also very careful, and at best can-t be blamed an engine a bit noisy when cold starts. One detail that fade quickly after a few kilometers.

At night, the AFL system (Adaptive Forward Lighting) works wonders. Developed jointly with the supplier Hella, it is an adaptive lighting system with nine positions: urban lighting (wide beam and low range), pedestrian (lighting reinforced shoulders less than 30km / h) , country road (ditto, but between 50 and 100km / h), highway (beam more powerful and slightly enhanced over 100km / h), weather (increased power to illuminate the right shoulder and falls to the left to avoid the ‘glare), assistant beam (low beam / automatic route), beam directional lighting static intersections and dynamic cornering lights. And we must recognize that in practice the system is entirely satisfactory. A real plus for safety when driving at night because the road and its surroundings are constantly illuminated optimally.

Conclusion
The Insignia is a real success. Comfortable, technology, properly equipped (with a list of options consistent), well finished and good to drive and live. The Insignia has nothing to envy to its competitors, whether they are any Premium! A title of Car of the Year so richly deserved, for this family sedan that marks the return to business Opel a beautiful way.

A little less than a year after its commercial launch, the Opel Insignia has already attracted a total of 150 000 customers. Numbers of registrations that meet the course direction of manufacturer Blitz which hope to capitalize on and enhance this success by capitalizing on the latest example ecoFLEX versions.

Besides this information, no other information is supplied by Opel. The children learn at the level of the old continent is a set of 150 000 Insignia that have been marketed.

Enough to allow the replacement for the Vectra to complete, and the objectives of the manufacturer on a segment provided with the Citroen C5, Mondeo, 3 Series, C Class, Audi A4, etc., etc..

For the record the Insignia offers a choice of six petrol engines (the 1.6 liter 115 hp unit to a V6 2.5 Turbo 325 hp version OPC) and three diesel (the 2.0 CTDI 110 hp to 160 hp) while incorporating a host of facilities and elements at the forefront of technology in image recognition panels Opel Eye, the chassis or adaptive FlexRide eg lighting directional bi-xenon. Incidentally Opel took the opportunity to indicate that the Insignia has scooped yet another award (number 26) as being sacred “favorite car in Europe” after consulting Auto Award organized by Auto Scout.

Because of boring workhorse – the new station wagon from Toyota, Honda and Opel rely on a fancy dish. AUTO BILD compares Avensis Combi, Accord Tourer and Sports Tourer Insignia Diesel.

Just suppose: In front of a fine hotel designed to take on the staff of the suitcase. Who would you push your luggage into their own hands: a sweaty types in overalls and rib vest or the posh pages with gold buttons on the red Spencer? Save the porter dapper in uniform makes the race – particularly when it costs only a tip. Unfortunately occur for ordinary citizens stay in luxury hotels rather rare. In everyday life, must take drastic other carrier. For example, the cultivated types of Opel, Honda and Toyota. Elegant service, called Insignia Sports Tourer Accord Tourer and Avensis Combi. Value in pinstripes: geht doch!

However, demand for their services much more than a tip. At least 33,545 euros in costs of the Opel Insignia Sports Tourer than 2.0 CDTI with automatic transmission – an especially attentive porters from Rüsselsheim. Honda also holds similarly prepared noble porters. 34,270 euros for one of the most impressive Accord Tourer 2.2 i-DTEC Automatic decreases the luggage – and then roll like the competitor even on 17-inch aluminum rims. At Toyota, they have recently frischgemacht the Avensis Combi, from 30,550 euros swallows Edellaster 2.2 D-4D automatic the whole gang. A clear case, therefore – the Avensis toils for the lowest money. Whether this may be true, the performance? Absolutely, especially as the Avensis decently equipped luxury promises no less than his rival Insignia and Accord – which Toyota is lacking compared to the Opel only a navigation system, which Honda has him ahead of the seat heater. On the other hand it offers compared to the competitor with the standard knee airbag even a more important protective pad.

The Honda Accord disappointed with payload and space :
Toyota also provides for an additional charge, the forward-looking pre-crash safety system – before an accident, the combination is automatically slowed down to the crash-reducing effects. Since it can only compete even Honda, the Japanese share with collision warning system including automatic emergency braking and lane departure warning (both optional), an equally intelligent assistance, such as the Toyota Enough of the theory. What dragged the three off for now? Not really much. The Edellaster are trimmed quite clear on his appearance, wrinkling at hard labor not like the uniform. Specifically, the Honda Accord Tourer disappointed: Maximum 1252 liters of cargo volume is lousy for a combination of his stature, and disappointing 436 pounds payload and 1100 kg towing capacity. The Opel may invite, but pinched the rear passengers – the space in the rear is modest. Nevertheless, the cargo compartment holds up to 1530 liters of cargo, tug, zuck the rear seat is folded up, releases a flat load floor. Not optimal: tow heavy loads over the wide edge at the rear to go heavy on the back.

Much more gallant to give the traveling companion while driving. All three suits to impress with a sovereign Antriebsmix of strong and gentle diesel automatic. However, we found subtle differences. In a particularly cultured Honda engine works – but needs to get the tangy i-DTEC Fünfstufenautomatik with an old-fashioned, robs the power to the spurt. Also, the converter slip in the transmission can be a part of the 150 hp evaporate in the Accord. At least, not coming into the touring Swallow: The only member in this comparison, he undercuts the consumption test on the seven-liter mark. The 160-horsepower Opel engine is running in comparison somewhat tough, lies to the six-speed automatic binding to the wheel. When you kick down the transmission downshifts so fast that the strong Insignia herausfährt a commanding lead. In addition, he is its torque (350 Nm), just below 2000 rpm ready – what is perceived.
The Opel Insignia Sports Tourer raises greedily into the corners :
Also in the Toyota engine is the best in the juice, he puts his muscle (150 hp) but delayed. The clean D-4D with nitric oxide cat growls even while under load pleasantly cozy – but comes to tough tours. Too bad also that the automatic transmission to downshift eagerly. Drehmomentsattes is pulling in the big gear is hardly possible. In addition, the suspension of the Japanese working unbalanced, with transverse joints, he can not condone at all. In general, the Avensis does not work very vital, callous and indirect guidance reinforces the impression. Since the Insignia Sports Tourer is carved out quite a different timber. As a major dynamics, but without undue hardship suspension, raises the great Opel greedily into the corners. However, the steering responds plenty sharp, at high speeds sometimes drop corrections from angular.

And Honda? Even the white flask loves curves, can be channeled more precise, but it absorbs more brittle than the Opel. Especially on the highway there is a lack of sensitivity to the chassis of the Accord. He trembles over heels, angrily pounding on a poor road surface. Too bad, because perfect seats with plenty of lateral support and the low noise level of the Accord Tourer offer the best long-distance comfort. It was only when braking, the Honda and messes stands ten feet from a speed of 100 behind Opel and Toyota. Ouch – that has wrinkles in his dress wardrobe. Not good for carriers, who want to top.

1800 Insignia have problems at the rear axle, 460 losing more oil to the crankshaft. 3000 Vectra C and Signum are suffering from loss of coolant.

Opel workshops in the coming weeks to get extra work: The Insignia 4×4 provides a clogged vent tube on the rear axle differential gear for a Verunreingigung of the oil and slipping clutch discs. This affects about 1,800 cars of model year 2009th To eliminate the problem, replace the vent hose on the rear differential gear. It takes about half an hour. A further service action concerns the Insignia with a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine. Due to a manufacturing discrepancy, with a total of 460 vehicles of model year 2009 oil leak on the crankshaft. The workshop will forward Kurbelwellenöldichtring tested for leaks and, if necessary, replaced. For the repair Opel estimated about 50 minutes.
This is for the Opel brand site
Also, the Vectra C and Signum’s Body Variant need in the workshop. Affected are approximately 3,000 vehicles with 2.8-liter V6 from model years 2006 through 2008. There may be due to defects in materials to leak of coolant coming from the expansion tank. In the workshop, the tank is replaced, the workshops planned 30 minutes for this part. Here, too, is a service action.
