That campus has the greenest grass I’ve seen and we’re talking about a college in Nevada. That place has desert, desert, oh and did I mention more desert? So it is quite surprising to see such green grass. Oh and the person said it’s real too! Anyway, let me go back to my point. This weekend I will be visiting the University of Nevada Las Vegas [UNLV]. Please, don’t stalk me. They have an open house so I was all, “Sure, why not check it out?” Side note: Finish high school and if you’re not going into the military go to college! Giving yourself an education is the best thing you can do for yourself. Side note done. Also, My Boo Jessica Jane [No I'm not lesbian. You know how girls have that nickname thing? Yeah it's like that] has a dance competition there, so I might go and watch her afterwards as well. If you guys are in town you should definitely check it out. She dances for Emanon and I’m sure Undeclared will be there too. So scream loud!

Therefore [Ugh too big - rewind]. So! I won’t be here this weekend…unless I find some computer, steal it, get wi-fi, and blog like there’s no tomorrow on WordPress…which won’t happen because stealing is a crime and I don’t want to go to jail. So all of you people of WordPress, you have been notified. No need to hear, “Pookinalicious, where were you all weekend? I didn’t see any new blogs.” Don’t you people read? Hehe, I like you people.

Fact No. 2: I tend to be a little mean to people I like…so don’t take it personally. Or just mean period…but not like mean mean to the point where I would make someone cry.

We had a pretty good open house but the website being down has caused some confusion and I think stopped quite a few people from coming to the opening. So in an effort to pump up more people into coming and signing up I am offering more demos for the ABC Music and ME. We are now offering the classes in studio for 40 euro a month.

We are still offering all the other classes but I think the ABC Music and Me will help get the other classes filled because I will be doing a demo for those classes but also explaining the benefits of the other classes we have to offer. I belive wholeheartedly in this program so hopefully others will come to believe in it too!

Classes begin Sept 14th

We are now offering ABC Music and Me It a program for preschoolers. The program is set up to teach about music and different instruments to increase the love of reading and to promote confidence. We are offering the class M W F at 3:15 for 30 min and the cost is 40 euro a month.

Openhouse 2009

It’s the 17th Openhouse to date. The Openhouse 2009 took place on the 19th of August this year. Plenty of activities as usual. I took many photographs as soon as I came back from Salaya after cell division laboratory demonstration.

Realised what I missed during the first half of the day, I decided to focus on what our Department of Biology put on exhibition at N500.

Greeted by a panda man and people at the book selling booth in front of N500. I was surprised to see a number of highschool students lined up for purchasing our Biology I and II, because the sale figure at Salaya has been very low, for from expectation.

Next stop was the Bio-Geo Path located in the forest of our campus. Not much activities were going on there. A few visitors came to the site, took some photographs, then left. Most of the time they went for the shark jaw and mammoth, the most big and attractive object in the Bio-Geo Path.

To finish everyting off, and to emphasize how good this Openhouse 2009 really was, I went to the area where you can buy various kind of food. Of course, I went for the meatball. Please follow the provided link to see more photograph, evaluate this Openhouse event, and leave a comment.

Precambrian Era

We are at the final preparation stage for Openhouse 2009 which will take place on Wednesday the 19th of August 2009. Bio-Geo Path has been awarded a refurbished budget from the faculty. I decided to rewrite most of the posters presenting 4 major eras, including Precambrian era, Paleozoic era, Mesozoic era, and Cenozoic era.

Geological information of Thailand has been added to the era information as well. Given that, all new and updated posters are all fit with the title of Bio-Geo Path.

Our time is for the age group 11/2 to 3 years old. This is the class after Village. So if your child started with us in village as a baby they would age up into this program. In this program we begn to address gathering together as a family and making music together. Children in this program have improved walking and motor skills a longer attention span and their vocab is being built everyday as they absorb everything they see and hear.

Parents enjoy learning about their child and with their child in this program. The major things Our Time promotes would be promoting music making at home, parent and child bonding, Helping the parents take the lead in playing dancing with their child and encouraging self-confidence and self -expression, social skills and cooperation all things needed to be successful in school.
The class is 45 mins long with one class a week for about 15b or 16 weeks depending on the unit being worked on. The max amount of students for this class would be 12.

Kindermusik Village is a program that helps to strengthen the bond between parents and child. This program is a very early introduction to music that has a calming effect on both parent and child. This is an awesome program not just for the child but also for the parent.

Parents are encouraged in these classes to interact with their child and to help introduce music to their child. This class is for newborns to -1 1/2 year olds. Village classes involve alot of movement for the parents and for the children. With the children able to explore the age appreciate instruments sensory development will be stimulated.

Village classes feature Gathering time, singing, movement , object play, literature, vocal play, quiet time and leaving time.

While you may not understand why these types of things would be used with children this young , it is very important because children learn by watching and listening and using all of their senses to explore. By watching us perform and sing and do the movements they are absorbing and storing information. When you are in class you may not notice what is going on but at home you may hear your child testing their voice or attempting to clap to music they hear or swaying with you in time to music.

Socializing even at this age can have fabulous benefits even at this age. By interacting with caregiver and the other people in the class the child is learning to be comfortable around people and in new places. Social interaction for the children will be the group dances and circle dances that take place during the classes

I hope this post has shed some light on this class. If you have some questions about this particular class let me know and I will answer them. The next class we will go over that I am going to be teaching will be Our Time.

I am very proud to say that we have been getting a very good response to the Kindermusik. We are working very hard to make sure that we are up and running. We will be having an open house on the 29 of Aug. We will be Open for classes on the 14th of Sept. The classes that will be offered are

Village, Our Time, Family Time, Imagine That and ABC Music and Me.

I am going to dedicate a page to each of the classes so that parents who have not enrolled their child in these programs have a feel of what class they want to enroll their child in. Village, Our Time and Family Time will be offered three days a week and Imagine That will be offered twice a week.  The classes are small with no more than 12 children usually in each of the classes. It is enough to help with socialization for both parent and child and small enough so that the children and parents are not overwhelmed with too many people in the classes.

My goal with all these classes are to bring child and parent (for the classes where the parents stay) closer together and to foster a positive learning environment for music. With so many school cutting art programs Kindermusik I believe is a step in helping children to experience the art of music.

Irashai Grill has gone on a marketing blitz and I was invited out for a foodie/blogger lunch and their open house, which they heavily advertised on Twitter (see poster here). That’s kind of the reason why I had my post about foodie perks.

I couldn’t make the foodie lunch because of school, but you can read about it from Sherman, Miss604, Eat, Snap, Repeat, VanFoodies and Foodists.

After reading such great positive reviews and impressions, I was pretty excited about the open house, envisioning a friendly crowd, great food, and all that.

What I experienced at the open house left me less than impressed, and it started even before the actual event occurred.

I had arrived 15min early with Kevin, and a passerby asked me what was going on, so I pointed out the signs and told him what it was about. He asked if he could join, and I told him that it was by RSVP only. Guess what he did? He walked in, and put down his info and came back out smiling, saying he was in. Not to mention the guy was kind of weird.  You’re probably thinking wow, just like I did at that point.

What was the point of me having to RSVP weeks before, when some random person on the street can walk in 10 minutes before and be allowed to participate?  I think they took the meaning of open house a little too far, as it seemed to be taken very literally. Just from this, you can tell that there was no sense of control as this shows that there was no set max capacity, there was no “exclusiveness” and just a bad sign.

So we checked in with the hostess in the front, and she ticked my name+guests off the printed list. I think I should mention the same thing as Wendy did on her post about bringing guests. This is the exact response I got when I RSVP’d.

“Would love to have you join us at the open house along with your friends, with a friendly comment…our intention is to promote the restaurant to people who will become return customers, so if your friends fit that bill for sure bring them along. If they’re from out of town, or not likely future customers, I’d ask for you to use discretion on who to bring. We’ve had an overwhelmingly strong response to the open house, quickly reaching max capacity and don’t want to have to turn anyone away.”

Now the people I invited along with me, I know that if they had a good experience, they would return. After all, they trust me enough to go to sketch places such as Save-On-Meats and try new places. I actually do understand the reasoning behind this, but perhaps they shouldn’t have said “family & friends” on the poster, and let random people just RSVP on the spot!!! Max capacity my ass. (Yes, I’m really ticked off about that.)

Once inside, things seemed okay. There was some complimentary sake offered at the door, but the person serving it threw me off a bit. A Japanese restaurant, and the person serving us Sake was..white? Also, the restaurant is Chinese owned, a peek into the kitchen shows that all the chefs are Chinese except for the Head Chef, so it makes me wonder just how “authentic” of a Japanese restaurant they can really be.

Since we were basically the first people in, there was food on a table set up already. I took some pictures, grabbed a bit of each, and sat down to enjoy. The only thing that stood out to me was the pearl chicken karaage, and only because I haven’t seen this at other restaurants. Everything else didn’t impress me nor my friends. While it is an open house, they should at least showcase something that’s good.  Not plain boring typical California Rolls, Chopped Scallop Rolls, and overcooked chicken skewers.

The alcohol they had was all offered at “special” prices, but they seemed pretty normal compared to other restaurants. A SMALL beer for $3.50, large for $5.50, and a glass of wine for $5.50. Sake could also be bought by the bottle for $25.  At least they offered samples.

Less than half an hour in, the crowd started to get a little thicker. I can only assume that the kitchen was not prepared for the amount of people. It was packed, especially by the kitchen exit where the servers would come out with plates of food. Sometimes the food wouldn’t even make it to the table, which was a short 6-7 feet away.  I also witnessed a couple times the server would bring food out to a table, which seemed to be very preferential, depending on WHO and WHAT they were. I’m sure you can figure it out if I tell you that I’m young (2o) and Asian.  What’s even worse about this was the people that FOLLOWED her to the table.  One final blow was when two people sitting beside us were offered food and we were sitting right beside and the server totally passed us over.

John Chow described it perfectly on his post, as the vultures descended upon the food, many losing their manners and using their hands to grab the food. Pushing and shoving also happened, much like you would experience in Chinatown or at the Night Market. We left before 7, tired of sitting around, getting passed over by the servers and not wanting to fight the crowd for a little bit of food.

Poor planning, preferential treatment to certain patrons, allowing randoms to RSVP minutes before, ridiculous “special” prices for the alcohol, and not enough food are definitely ingredients that make up a great steaming pile of …disaster.  The food was not impressive, which should have been their main point of the night.  Instead, they seemed to want to pack the place full of people to hype things up and feed them mediocre food.

Coles Notes: It was a total gong show.

With every passing month, I find it hard to believe it’s a new month already.  I am excited about June though, as we have planned an Open House!  If you havn’t been to Mulberry Creek in awhile, you will be able to browse the new summer items.  We have handmade crafts and paintings by local artists as well gift gift items.  Check out our Father’s Day Gift Baskets, for the fisherman, golfer and motorcycle enthusiest, or maybe he would like Mountain Man Snacks or something handcarved by Linda!
