Is your system unable to boot into Windows XP/2000 or even Safe Mode? Whether you get a blue screen

Is your system unable to boot into Windows XP/2000 or even Safe Mode? Whether you get a blue screen or XP/2000 just hangs, then this information is for you. This will allow you to repair your Windows XP/2000 installation (hopefully) without having to losing your data or settings.

Indications:

May allow Windows to load properly if there are critical driver, software or registry problems which have rendered the system unbootable. (Blue screens, hanging, errors etc..)

May repair/reinstall missing Windows components or solve otherwise quirky behavior

May allow drive to be installed on another system or motherboard with different chipset

May allow you to install new motherboards or make other large hardware changes that XP may not readily accept with PnP.

Note: The system repair function will remove any updates you have previously installed that are not included on the CD. Drivers will also be reverted to their original XP versions, as well as some settings (Including by not limited to network & performance settings). It may be necessary to reactivate your Windows XP

as well.

Step 1: Determine the problem

First, figure out what CAUSED the problem. Often times, when Windows is rendered unbootable, there is a good reason. This can often be due to hardware failure (bad hard disk, memory or CPU for example). In these cases, the system repair function will not work. System repair will only repair your software.I strongly recommend you run a disk utility on your hard drive before performing a system repair. You can find more information about disk utilities here:
http://www.techspot.com/vb/showthrea…&threadid=7602

Memory can also cause these problems. A good memory test can be found here: http://www.memtest.org

Step 2: Begin the repair process

You must boot from your XP or 2000 CD. Please make sure it is the same version of Windows that is currently installed on your computer (ex. XP Home cannot repair XP Professional). Place the CD in your CDROM and start your computer. Newer versions will work as well (ie. Windows XP Pro SP2 CD will work on an older WinXP Pro SP1 installation)Before the Windows logo appears, you will be asked to press any key to boot from CD, so do just that.

If you are unable to boot from the XP/2000 CD, then please check the last step in this short guide.

Step 3: System repair steps

A blue screen will appear and will begin loading XP setup from the CD.RAID/SCSI/Unsupported UDMA users:
You will be prompted to “press F6 to install any third party SCSI or RAID drivers”. Most users will not have to press F6, but if you are running RAID, SCSI or unsupported ATA controllers, then you need your controller drivers on a floppy disk. If you are unsure whether you have RAID/SCSI, then simply let the CD load without pressing F6.

Once completed, you will be confronted with “Windows Setup”. You will be asked to setup up Windows, or repair Windows with the recovery console. Choose the FIRST option, NOT recovery console.

Choose F8 to continue.

Next, Windows Setup will find existing Windows XP/2000 installations. You will be asked to repair an existing XP installation or install a fresh copy of Windows XP/2000.If no installations are found, then you will not be given the option to repair. This may happen if the data or partition on your drive is too corrupted.

That should be it. Windows XP/2000 will appear to be installing itself for the first time, but it will retain all of your data and settings. Just follow the prompts, have your CD-KEY handy and hope for the best!

CDROM NOT BOOTABLE: If the XP/2000 CD does not boot…

Many computers out there are not configured to boot from the CDROM. If you cannot boot from the CDROM, this is probably due to the boot order of your computer being incorrect for CDROM booting. You have two options:

1.) You can change this in the BIOS during POST, which is usually the very first screen displayed by your computer when you turn it on.

2.) Many newer computers have a selectable boot menu by tapping F8, F10 OR F12 right during/after the first POST screen. This will allow you to temporarily boot from a CDROM.

To enter your BIOS, most users here will press the DEL key.

Most users with Dell, Gateway, Sony & HP systems will press F2.

Many Toshiba laptops are F2 or require you hold the ESC key when you turn the system on. Your notebook will report an error and prompt to press F1 to enter setup. Do exactly that.

Compaq users will usually have to press F10.

IBM typically uses F1 or F2.

Other brands may have different keys to press to enter setup, but F1, F2, Del, Tab and CTRL+S or CTRL + ALT + S are the most common ones I’m familiar with. Often, the BIOS will display what button to press to “enter setup” during POST.

When you enter the BIOS setup, you need to change the boot order. The CDROM should be setup before the Hard Drive. Each BIOS is different, but here is an example:

So I was surfing around last night, like I usually do, when an odd window appeared. It was one of those popups designed to look like a real application window, and in this case, it had a bunch of made-up visuals on it designed to make me think that it was an antivirus scanner, and that it had found a bunch of junk on my computer. It called itself “Antivirus System PRO”, and I immediately recognized it as bullshit, and closed the window. Then I noticed something else odd: it had stuck an icon in the taskbar tray, down by the clock. No fake app popup I’ve ever seen can do that. And that’s when it started to take over.

Clicking or right-clicking on the taskbar tray icon merely re-displayed the window I’d closed earlier. Fine, I’ll start Task Manager and kill it that way. Except a Ctrl-Shift-Esc didn’t open Task Manager, it opened an error window saying that taskmgr.exe was infected, and it had been blocked from starting. Fine, time to consult Google on how to get rid of it. I had Chrome open, and Ctrl-T’d to open a new tab. Except I got the same error window again, this time saying that chrome.exe was infected. Ok, I’ll just re-use an already-open tab to get to Google. I’m instead re-directed to a page explaining that that link has been blocked, and I’m offered a link to purchase the “full” version of Antivirus System PRO in order to remove the problem.

I do a Windows+R to get the Run box, with the intent to start cmd.exe to see if maybe there’s a command-line way of killing this thing. cmd.exe gets blocked by the same error window as before. Attempting to start other browsers also doesn’t work. Ok, I know that Internet Explorer is integrated into Windows Explorer, so if I open a Windows Explorer window, I can just type a web URL into the address bar, and bam, I’m surfing. It lets me open a Windows Explorer window, but entering any link in the address bar takes me back to the page I mentioned before. The page that I’m redirected to, bizarrely, says it’s on microsoft.com — all part of the ruse, no doubt.

Fine, you piece of shit. You may be on this computer, but you’re not on the computer a room away. I start that one up, search a bit, and find out that Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware can get rid of this thing. It so happens I have that installed on the infected computer, but of course, I can’t start it because it just gets blocked like any other program I try to run. So I restart into safe mode, update Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware, and run it. It finds and nukes the bastard into oblivion.

It’s at this part that I start to think, and I start to get infuriated.

First, how did the thing get on my computer to begin with?

I used to believe that when people said that they got a virus, and that they didn’t download, install, or run anything suspicious to get it, they were delusional or mistaken or just plain lying. But that’s exactly my situation here: I was literally just surfing around, not running anything out of the ordinary, not visiting any sites out of the ordinary, when the bloody thing just showed up and took over.

But what infuriates me more than being a “power user” and still getting outfoxed by malware is that someone made this malware.

See, in our day and age, software is so widely and easily available that we take it for granted that people make it. We just go to a web page, click a link, install, and run. But it doesn’t just appear out of nowhere. Somebody made that software, and put it up on that web page for you to download.

So, as far as malware goes, it isn’t some rogue program that appeared out of thin air one day and started spreading. Somebody made it. Which means that somebody sat down and decided to make it; they thought about this thing, and planned out, and then created, all of the awful things that it does. Using computers as a means, someone made the conscious decision to hurt other people. That bothers me.

What bothers me more, though, is how readily I was steered to a page where I could buy myself out of this bullshit. In other words, not only did someone make the decision to create software that would maliciously take over other people’s computers, they thought up a way that they could make money off of it.

And not everybody is as resourceful as me. Not everybody has access to another computer that they could use to bail themselves out. Plenty of people out there would be totally helpless against this thing, and would be absolutely forced into paying to get rid of it. Which means that at some point, someone realized the potential of this helplessness… and so they decided to make some software that would allow them to profit from that helplessness. That bothers me.

But what bothers me most, though? It most likely wasn’t built by just one person. And the people that built it were likely paid by someone else to build it. That means that multiple people were involved in creating something designed to exploit the weaknesses of others, and nobody said no. Nobody stood up and said “hey, this doesn’t seem right, maybe we shouldn’t be making this”. Or maybe they did, and they got fired, and replaced by someone that would comply. Regardless, the software was completed, released, and now the participants can sit back and pretend that the rich ends justify the unscrupulous means.

But ultimately, they don’t get to win. For all of the bad that these selfish assholes can come up with, there’s people that make software like Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware. People that decided to use their powers for good; people that sit around all day and use their brains to squash the assholes. And then, on top of the altruism that comes along with creating such software, they give their software away for free. It’s the sort of thing that can restore one’s faith in the race.

Heard about this new social network Pip.io?
Pipio is a real-time social operating system that combines many of the platforms such as instant messaging, video chat, real-time feeds, and grouping within their all on one platform.
It’s part location service, part Twitter and Facebook app.
The application has the potential to provide a very powerful social experience, but will it draw the masses away from the top guns?

Only time will tell I guess!

Google Chrome OS is an open source, lightweight operating system that will initially be targeted at

Google Chrome OS is an open source, lightweight operating system that will initially be targeted at netbooks. Later this year we will open-source its code, and netbooks running Google Chrome OS will be available for consumers in the second half of 2010. Because we’re already talking to partners about the project, and we’ll soon be working with the open source community, we wanted to share our vision now so everyone understands what we are trying to achieve.

Speed, simplicity and security are the key aspects of Google Chrome OS. We’re designing the OS to be fast and lightweight, to start up and get you onto the web in a few seconds. The user interface is minimal to stay out of your way, and most of the user experience takes place on the web. And as we did for the Google Chrome browser, we are going back to the basics and completely redesigning the underlying security architecture of the OS so that users don’t have to deal with viruses, malware and security updates. It should just work.

Google Chrome OS will run on both x86 as well as ARM chips and we are working with multiple OEMs to bring a number of netbooks to market next year. The software architecture is simple — Google Chrome running within a new windowing system on top of a Linux kernel. For application developers, the web is the platform. All web-based applications will automatically work and new applications can be written using your favorite web technologies. And of course, these apps will run not only on Google Chrome OS, but on any standards-based browser on Windows, Mac and Linux thereby giving developers the largest user base of any platform.

To run it using a usb drive, follow the link

The most exciting new version of the popular Microsoft operating system software, Windows 7 Home Pre

The most exciting new version of the popular Microsoft operating system software, Windows 7 Home Premium, is currently in beta testing. Previous versions included Windows Vista, XP, 2000, 98, 95 and 3.1.

The current build in testing lists the following as minimum hardware requirements for installation of Windows 7 Home Premium: 1 GHz 32-bit or 64-bit processor, 1GB of system memory, 16 BG of available disk space, and support for DirectX 9 graphics with 128 MB memory. Also recommended are a DVD-R/W drive and internet access for ease with installation methods.

Installation is a much simpler process than previous Windows incarnations, requiring less than thirty minutes for a typical install and providing most of the drivers along with the operation system. Windows Vista required installation of the drivers from the manufacturer’s disc.

Windows 7 Home Premium and Windows 7 Professional are the two main editions of Windows 7 currently in development. While there will be a total of six editions, most marketing efforts will be focused on the two main editions. The Windows 7 Home Premium edition is slated to ship with the Aero interface, Windows Media Center, handwriting features, and DVD playback. Additional hardware can be installed to allow the capability of watching and recording live television broadcasts from the PC. Less expensive versions of Windows 7 will not include all of the features of Windows 7 Home Premium.

One of the most thrilling new features is the Superbar which replaces the familiar Start button and taskbar. Thumbnail previews of open applications, while introduced in Windows Vista, are now greatly enhanced with the Superbar. While the Start menu itself remains a dynamic and user-friendly interface, it has also undergone some much needed improvements.

The Desktop alternate menu (right-click) in Windows 7 Home Premium advances Microsoft’s trend of putting the ability to personalize the Windows experience at its user’s fingertips. Changing the screen resolution is now immediately available from this shortcut menu. Users will no longer need to wade through menu after menu of options in order choose selections. Pre-packaged themes are also immediately available, each with a desktop background, window colors, screen saver, and sound theme.

The connected Devices and Printers interface is also available right from the user’s Desktop. All drives, printers, peripherals, and external devices can be viewed and accessed from this interface. Troubleshooting problems is easy straightforward with the new graphical depictions of the computer system and installed components.

Industry professionals estimate that Windows 7 Home Premium edition will reach the United States market in the first quarter of 2010, however, Microsoft spokespeople have yet to issue any solid release date at this time. While the Vista edition has been a huge upgrade over XP, many users were less than impressed. Industry professionals and computer experts currently involved in the beta testing of Windows 7 Home Premium edition anticipate a high level of user satisfaction.

When we think of Microsoft the word ‘gigantic’ springs to mind! In actual fact the company has grow

When we think of Microsoft the word ‘gigantic’ springs to mind! In actual fact the company has grown in leaps and bounds to capture a staggering 90 plus percent of the personal computers market. With the launch of the first Windows operating system to supersede MS-DOS, the company has gone on to launch several other versions of Windows, the most recent being Windows 7. You may find this hard to believe but Windows 8 is already being planned for a possible launch in 2012.

There is the possibility that an iA-128 bit full binary compatibility system, built by working backwards on the existing AI-64 bit instructions in hardware simulation for Windows 8 will put in an appearance. When the Windows Server 2008, the Windows 7 server version was released based solely on the 64-bit capability, the pundits anticipated that Microsoft would maintain the structure and release its next version with the same 64 bit capability. Microsoft however had different ideas and has taken a colossal step to plan the release of the 128 bit.

Some of the features that are being foreseen for the new Windows 8 operating system will be cluster support and one way data replication; a reworked core engine that is expected to give a more enhanced performance; radical changes to file access in branch offices and a brand new file server for Windows 8 are all on the cards.

Microsoft’s leading file replication engine the much hyped DFSR is an essential part of branch office strategy and file server role, having the ability to scale to thousands of servers and duplicate mind boggling amounts of date. DFSR technology will save MS-IT and the customer 80% or more of WAN bandwidth through the use of a highly advanced on-the-wire differential compression technology.

Well, its time to take a look at what the public expects from the new Windows 8 operating system. For the people who love their monitors and use dual monitors the existing core operating systems presently available do not fully support management of dual monitors. While you can get help from Microsoft to manage multiple monitors, an in-built management system is expected from the next generation Windows 8. Better resolution, configuration of existing drivers and operating system updates to make the management of dual monitors possible are all being wished for

Microsoft has stated that the new Windows 8 will focus on dual monitors as the concept has become increasing popular and the hardware vendors are going all out to push the company in this direction.

The Windows 8 screenshot envisaged shows no browser, unlike the Windows 7 version, which has a browser added. Windows 8 it is planned will have very little on the screen due to the fact that everything will be done online in the Windows 8 cloud.

It’s still early days yet, but Windows 8 references are suggesting a Windows 8 server with an even more enhanced datacenter operating system. Microsoft is pushing forward towards offering private cloud hosting in addition to the existing public cloud hosting. The possibilities are endless and we have much to look forward to and much to expect from the new Windows 8 operating system.
