LG rolled out Optimus Black in March 2011 with Android Froyo 2.2 when the industry standard was 2.3 Gingerbread. LG support services promised free Gingerbread update by July 2011, and I feel sorry for myself, that I fell for their trickery. Now it is Dec 2011 and LG’s promised gingerbread update is no where to be seen.  In the meanwhile, Google has come out with Android 4.0 Ice-cream sandwich, and I am still stuck with stupid Froyo.

My previous phone was a second-hand HTC HD2.  Although HD2 came out similarly with an old WM6.5 OS, there were lot of developers and development activities around HD2. It allowed me to port Android and Ubuntu into the phone. It was absolutely fascinating. I used to have the latest Android 2.3.5 working perfectly fine in my old HTC HD2.

However, things are very different around LG. There are no developers! It seems that only few have bought any LG phone. The faith of all Optimus forums are also similar. No developers! Only losers buy LG. I feel the problem with LG is that they have so many products from TV to AC that they have no time to concentrate on the fast phased Mobile phone sector. I will never buy another LG phone

On its Facebook page, the company has posted that they are also continuing to evaluate the ICS OS to find whether it is compatible with the functionality, features and performance of other LG smartphones to make the ICS OS available on as many LG smartphones as possible.

The company made its vow to post an upgrade schedule, as well as details about other phones that will get ICS, on its Facebook page and local LG Web sites around next month.

The announcement has been made several weeks after LG confirmed that its Optimus 2x, known as the G2x here in the states, will in fact receive the Ice Cream Sandwich update. There was some uncertainty existing about the company’s ICS plans after a representative on LG’s Indian Facebook page said the Optimus 2X would not receive Ice Cream Sandwich.

The first device to receive Ice Cream Sandwich will be the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. It was already released overseas earlier this month. The OS will be available on Verizon Wireless in the U.S., but the carrier has not yet announced a release date. At the same time, rumors spread out that, however, it will hit U.S. stores on Dec. 8.

Các thiết bị “may mắn” được lọt vào danh sách này gồm có LG Optimus 3D, Optimus 2X, Optimus Black và Optimus LTE. Mặc dù các model này đều đã được nâng cấp lên Android Gingerbread cách đây không lâu nhưng LG hứa hẹn vẫn sẽ đem đến những trải nghiệm mới về Ice Cream Sandwich lên các sản phẩm thuộc dòng Optimus. Thông tin chính thức dự kiến sẽ được cập nhật trên Facebook của LG vào đầu tháng 12/2011.

Và thêm một tin bên lề nữa đó là LG đang “rục rịch” lên kế hoạch tùy chỉnh lại bản ROM Android 4.0 để chạy được nền tảng này trên các smartphone thuộc dòng Optimus trước đó và có cấu hình trung bình như Optimus One và Optimus Chic.

1. NEC Medias N-04C

N-04c mỏng 7,7mm thực sự đánh bại các “người mẫu” siêu mỏng khác như Samsung Galaxy S II (dày 8,5mm) và iPhone 4 (dày 9.4mm). Bên cạnh đó, N-04c cũng khá nhẹ với trọng lượng chỉ 105 gram. Medias N-04c trang bị màn hình 4 inch với độ phân giải 854×480, sử dụng bộ xử lý 800MHz, trang bị camera 5 megapixel CMOS, chạy trên hệ điều hành Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Thiết bị có thêm bộ thu truyền hình kỹ thuật số mặt đất  TV Tuner cùng công nghệ NFC. Máy được xách tay về Việt Nam với giá khoảng 12 triệu đồng.

2. Motorola Droid RAZR

Phần mỏng nhất của Droid RAZR chỉ có 7,1mm giúp smartphone này vượt qua đối thủ Medias N-04C (dày 7,7mm) và Samsung Galaxy S II (dày 8,5mm), trở thành thiết bị di động mỏng thế giới hiện nay. Motorola Droid RAZR được trang bị bộ vi xử lý hai nhân 1,2Ghz với 1GB RAM và màn hình qHD Super AMOLED 4,3 inch sử dụng kính chống xước Gorilla. Máy tích hợp camera 8.0 Mpx hỗ trợ quay phim chuẩn HD 1080p và máy ảnh trước 1,3 Mpx. Droid ZAZR được cài đặt sẵn hệ điều hành Android 2.3.5 và sử dụng giao diện Motorblur đặc trưng của hãng. Motorola Droid ZAZR được bán với giá 299,99 USD kèm theo hợp đồng nhà mạng Verizon.

3. LG Optimus Black

Optimus Black có độ mỏng 9,2mm, máy sử dụng màn hình Nov 4 inch độ sáng 700 nit cho phép hiển thị các tông màu cơ bản ở độ sâu và chân thực nhất. Optimus Black trang bị chip 1GHz, camera 5MP hỗ trợ quay video HD 720p. Hiện máy được bán với giá 7,7 triệu đồng.

4. Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S

Thiết bị có bề ngoài tương tự như người tiền nhiệm Xperia Arc với vị trí mỏng nhất chỉ 8,7mm, nhưng được trang bị bộ xử lý Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8255 tốc độ 1.4GHz, đồ hoạ Adreno 205, 512MB RAM chạy trên hệ điều hành Android 2.3. Ngoài ra, Xperia Arc S sử dụng bộ cảm biến Sony Exmor R 8.1 megapixel có thể cải thiện độ nhạy trong môi trường thiếu sáng và trang bị màn hình Bravia 4,2 inch có độ phân giải cao hơn 854 x 480 pixels,  thay vì 800 x 480 của Xperia Arc. Máy được bán tại Việt Nam với giá khoảng 13 triệu đồng.

5. Samsung Galaxy S II

Galaxy S II có “vòng eo” 8,5mm, đây là 1 trong những mẫu smartphone mạnh nhất hiện nay. Máy sở hữu bộ vi xử lý lõi kép ARM v7 với tốc độ 1,2 GHz cùng bộ nhớ RAM 1024 MB. Cấu hình mạnh giúp người dùng có thể lướt web nhanh chóng, chạy nhiều ứng dụng và chơi các trò chơi đồ họa “khủng” dễ dàng.

Galaxy S II trang bị màn hình công nghệ mới nhất của Samsung là Super AMOLED Plus. Công nghệ màn hình giúp hiển thị hình ảnh sắc nét với chất lượng màu sắc, độ tương phản. This smartphone with Android is now available on the open market. Large 4-inch touch screen, made with the named NOVA is placed in the middle of Optimus Black, who had traditionally on the Polish market is called the LG Optimus Black. LG did not reveal what is behind this technology. It is, in any event, provide a particularly good brightness and saves power. Our test the display shows that the Optimus Black has been tested among the brightest display device (about 693 cd/m2). This is especially true when displaying web pages, where he used a lot of white. But the contrast is between a better medium, because black is not as high as fourth in the iPhone Good clarity is also observed when the sunlight falls directly on the screen, but then you see the reflection. There is something to talk about the better readability. Phone highly reflects light, like the iPhone, and fingerprints at once conspicuous. Thus there is little benefit from the display in the large sun.

Froyo instead of Gingerbread
LG Optimus Black appearance makes a good impression. It is a nice, neat and light, its thickness is ten millimeters, and weighs 112 grams. The phone looks decent. Processor clocked at 1 GHz is working efficiently – scrolling, browsing, opening and closing applications, all of this works smoothly and flawlessly. We do not fault occurred or suspension. Frequently used applications, such as contacts and messages are opened in less than one second, the browser starts up a little longer than the second. How not to look at it is a very fast pace. The phone is running Android, but in version 2.2 (Froyo), but the update of the system (2.3 aka Gingerbread) is now available and can be immediately loaded.

Fast browser, meticulous camera
The Internet can be used via WLAN (b / g / n) and HSPA (7.2 / 5.7 Mbit / s) on LG Optimus Black. To record images, video, and music is available 1 GB of memory, which in our test device was actually about 1 GB. Who needs more; it can extend it using a memory card up to 32 GB. The package includes a micro SD card 2 GB – great addition!

Battery and acoustics
Promise that the display will use 50 percent less electricity, LG has not complied with, at least when the display of our test device was working at full power. The battery is exhausted after five hours of continuous Web browsing in wireless LAN. It’s still a good result, but smart phones with a display of similar size, such as the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc and LG Optimus Speed, withstand an hour longer. Power save mode operation can be seen for example when the display brightness is average. But during the talks is a very heavy load on the battery capacity 1500 mAh, but almost six hours of talks on the full capacity of GSM is still a very good result. In this test, but the display is inactive. Test the quality of the talks with LG Optimus Black fared well. Voices sound natural and loud enough, both in your phone and fixed line network, provided that the battery is sufficiently charged. When the battery runs out, the volume fluctuates.

Summary: The phone with much strength
Eighth place is right at this very phone. LG Optimus Black is well equipped, super-slim model Android phone, with a central 4-inch touch screen. Brightness is indeed better with LG technology advertised by Nova, but in a very sunny environment, it almost does not bring any clear benefit. Pluses include a phone at this as a good acoustics, performance and liquidity, and durable battery. However, the colors of pictures taken by the camera should be better, the display should not stay behind fingerprints and it should not reflect as much light.

The day of our shoot with Pedestrian.tv – ABSORB won the chance to create a fun fashion film shot entirely on the new LG Optimus Black phone a few weeks back. We featured the latest range from swimwear label We Are Handsome, constructing a pop-colour 80′s referenced world right in the middle of Westfield shopping centre in Pitt st Sydney! Passers-by were stopping to watch the bubble machine in action, models popping confetti filled balloons, bouncing on a trampoline and swishing pom poms! We can’t wait to unveil the video!

Having lived as a ‘digital native’ for almost two decades, I’ve witnessed how technology advances from one level to a higher state and how it somehow help improve the quality of our lives — making it better and simpler from time to time. That being said, I have learned how to at least master and carefully define the set of features I’m looking for in a gadget I’ll drool over (and buy). I guess that is a typical thing for a bit tech-savvy person like me and I tell you, this is never an easy task.

Meanwhile, the LG Optimus 2X runs on Nvidia Tegra 2 dual core processor which will surpass our mobile phone experience expectations. The graphics and overall quality of all applications especially the games are to the extreme level of quality. It’s  simply 10x (or more) faster than the traditional smartphones in the market these days. That’s undoubtedly Genius! I won’t be surprised if LG will be developing phones which will run in quad core processors in a couple of years!

It also features a 4-inch WVGA touchscreen, 8-megapixel camera (main) with flash, 1.3-megapixel front camera, full 1080p HD video recording and playback, and an 8GB worth of storage (expandable up to 32GB). These are actually the perfect set of features I’m always looking after in mobile phones. Now that it has arrived in our lovely country, I should never miss the opportunity of getting one of these. Now I can take photos wherever I go without having to bring heavy and bulky DSLR and a HD videocamera! It is, indeed, a perfect gadget for people who is always on the go.

Aside from the features above, I’m so happy to say that LG is so awesome enough to include a mini-HDMI to HDMI cable in the handset box free-of-charge!!! We can now easily hook up the LG Optimus 2X and Optimus Black to an HD LCD/Plasma TV for a enlarged high definition view of the genius phone especially when watching your favorite movies and playing games in your Optimus phone. It’s like watching DVD’s and playing gaming consoles minus the bulky player itself! That’s totally a space saving gadget! Absolutely Genius!

Layar 4″ ponsel ini dilengkapi dengan teknologi NOVA display - teknologi hasil kembangan LG sendiri – yang memiliki tampilan dengan tingkat brightness yang lebih lebar dan tingkat warna hitam dan warna putih yang lebih nyata. El título de la nota no es una ocurrencia mía, sino que como podrán ver en el vídeo a continuación del LG Optimus Pad, donde si ponen atención LG hace que personaje virtual llamado Optimus (el cual tiene un Jetpack) le de una patada en el rostro a un Steve Jobs virtual nombrado “A pad”.

Fuera del chiste de que Optimus humilla al iPad, lo interesante es que la compañía Coreana ha presentado 4 nuevos dispositivos de su línea Optimus (el equivalente a Galaxy o Xperia en Samsung y Sony, respectivamente). 3 de ellos son nuevos celulares: el Optimus 2X, el Optimus Black y el Optimus 3D. El cuarto es la anteriormente mencionata Tableta Optimus Pad.

Todos estos Optimus llegaran con sistema operativo Android. Aunque lo que me sorprende es que de inicio los smartphones llegarán con Android 2.2 Froyo y no con 2.3 Gingerbread, aunque LG promete que los actualizará posteriormente. Por su lado, la Optimus Pad sí llegará con Android 3.0 Honeycomb desde su lanzamiento, lo cual es muy importante para que pueda ser considerada desde el inicio como una verdadera Tablet.

La bandera de LG con 2 de estos Optimus es sin duda la visión estereoscópica, presentes en el Optimus 3D y el Optimus Pad. Cabe destacar que el Optimus 3D cuenta con 3D auto-estereoscópico, es decir, que puedes apreciarlo sin necesidad de lentes, pero el Optimus Pad requerirás unos lentes para poder disfrutar este efecto.

El único gran detalle que le encuentro a esto del 3D es que no han aprendido de Nintendo con su 3DS al tener la opción de uno poder ajustar el efecto 3D, ya que como bien ha dicho Nintendo, cada persona percibe el 3D de manera distinta, es por eso la importancia que tiene la barra de profundidad de 3D en el Nintendo 3DS.

Siguiendo hablando del Optimus 3D, este smartphone tendrá un procesador OMAP de doble núcleo a 1GHz de Texas Instruments. En cuanto a los gráficos tenemos un PowerVR SGX540 encargado de poder disfrutar la visión estereoscópica. Lo de 3D también proviene por la doble cámara como en el Nintendo 3DS, con sensor de 5 megapíxeles, que permite tanto hacer fotos 3D como vídeos 3D. Así que si quieres fotos o vídeos 3D con mejor resolución que tu próximo Nintendo 3DS con sus cámaras VGA, el Optimus 3D es una de tus opciones.

La memoria interna del Optimus 3D es de 8GB, pero es expansible mediante microSD. La pantalla es de 4.3 megapíxeles con resolución de 800×480 píxeles, lo que creo que no he visto es que si el hecho de ser 3D reduzca su resolución visible a la mitad como sucede supuestamente en el Nintendo 3DS. Como es de esperarse, tiene conectividad por WiFi, GPS, HSPA, etc.

Donde podrás sacarle más provecho a los vídeos grabados por tu Optimus 3D o tu Optimus Pad será en Youtube con su opción de 3D, donde podrás ver y subir tus vídeos. Otra característica interesante de las gráficas del Optimus 3D es que en un test en Quadrant, ha obtenido como resultado 2958 puntos, en comparación, un Galaxy S logra solo 900 puntos.

Si te gustan los specs del Optimus 3D, pero no eres fan de la visión estereoscópica, entonces LG tiene el Optimus 2X que tiene un procesador nVidia Tegra 2. Lo que diferencia al Optimus 2X es su cámara pues es de 8 megapíxeles con Flash LED capaz de grabar vídeo a 1080p, así como una cámara frontal de 1.3 megapíxeles.

Igualmente Optimus 2X contará con 8GB de almacenamiento interno con posibilidad de expandirse con microSD. GPS, WiFi, conexión HDMI y varias otras cosas de un telefono de gama alta están ahí presentes.

El hermano menor es el Optimus Black, que tiene un procesador OMAP a 1GHz de un solo núcleo.  Tiene 512MB de RAM, así como 2GB de almacenamiento interno también expandible mediante microSD. Su pantalla es de 4 pulgadas, así que al mencionar menor tampoco te imagines algo barato, sigue siendo un teléfono de muy buena gama, solo que es un teléfono demasiado delgado.

De hecho, la pantalla del Optimus Black es talvez su característica más destacante, pues es de la tecnología NOVA que LG ha presumido recientemente, con un muy buen brillo pero con un consumo muy bajo. La resolución de la pantalla es de 800×480 píxeles. La cámara es de 5 megapíxeles con autoenfoque y puede grabar a 720p. La frontal es de 2 megapíxeles.

Optimus Black contará con la tecnología Dolby Mobile, la cual ofrece un ecualizador propio de Dolby para que de un efecto de sonido envolvente al momento de escuchar música. En cuanto a conectividad tiene WiFi, HSPA, GPS y Bluetooth.

No te vayas aún, pues dejo lo más importante para el final: el Optimus Pad. Esta Tablet es todo lo que podríamos esperar de una tablet de este año, pero tiene la característica de poder tomar fotos y vídeos 3D, así como poder ver visión estereoscópica usando lentes especiales. La pantalla es de un tamaño muy adecuado: 8.9 pulgadas con resolución de 1280×768 píxeles. La cámara para grabar 3D también es de 5 megapíxeles y puede grabar en Alta Definición.

En cuanto al procesador de la Optimus Pad, es de doble núcleo a 1GHz (un nVidia Tegra 2, igual que en el Optimus 2X). Tiene 32GB de memoria interna, una cámara frontal de 1.3 megapíxeles y cuenta con salida HDMI. Como es de esperarse, Optimus Pad cuenta con el sistema operativo Android 3.0 Honeycomb, lo cual te dará una experiencia de Tablet y no de un celular enorme como sucedía en las primeras Tablets con Android.

Otra de las características más importantes de la Optimus Pad es que tendrá conectividad LTE, mejor conocido como 4G.

LG mentioned that this phone has the brightest display where they call it as the NOVA display and it is 4 inch. It use 50% less energy than the normal LCD screen. the thickness is about 9.2 inch which is really thin. The device will be shipped with Android 2.2 Froyo and can be upgraded to Gingerbread later.

Providing users with a dramatically brighter 4-inch NOVA display in the world’s slimmest 9.2 mm mobile device, LG Optimus Black creates a one-of-a-kind user experience unlike anything before.

Available for the first time in the mobile market, LG Optimus Black’s NOVA display is designed to be the brightest, clearest and most readable among mobile screens with 700 nits  of brightness for optimal visibility. LG Optimus Black provides users with an easier and more natural experience when browsing the web, reading emails, or writing documents with higher levels of brightness and pure white tones that deliver true black and white colors for ideal handset viewing. NOVA technology featured on LG Optimus Black also enables users to maintain visibility whether indoors or outdoors under strong sunlight.

In addition to greater luminosity, the NOVA display on LG Optimus Black also radically reduces power consumption by 50 percent during general indoor use compared to a conventional LCD. Similarly, AMOLED consumes twice as much power as NOVA to display a full white screen, the most frequently used color scheme for web browsing. The LG Optimus Black will be rolled out globally in the first half of 2011.

LG is also touting what it calls a NOVA Display on the new Optimus handset, claiming it’s the worlds brightest on a smartphone at 700 nits. The screen technology offers 15 percent more efficient battery consumption, especially indoors where less power is required to brighten the touchscreen. LG says the NOVA Display lowers power consumption by 50 percent during general indoor use compared to conventional LCD technology while competing AMOLED displays consume twice as much power as to display a full white screen.

So what will a dual-core chip bring to smartphones? LG expects the Optimus Black to be a “home theater in your pocket” supporting playback of 1080p content, but also capturing video in full 1080p as well though the 8 megapixel camera. An HDMI port can pipe user-generated media to a large screen and also supports full HDMI mirroring. The phone also supports Wi-Fi Direct for faster wireless transfers of video and content. I’m wondering if that will lead to future smartphone apps specific for use on a larger display. The device also sports a 2 megapixel front-facing camera for high-quality video playback.

Once it arrives for sale, the Optimus Black will use Android 2.2 (s goog), but LG fully expects the device to be capable of a Gingerbread, or Android 2.3 update. That should bring an improved user experience once carriers allow the upgrade, but LG isn’t waiting until then: a custom UI on the Optimus brings one finger gestures for faster message access and missed call information. And the phone can be configured to take calls, enter camera mode or play music through lifting, shaking or tapping it.

LG sandwiched the Optimus Black with announcements of smart refrigerators, stoves, washing machines and televisions, but all of the new devices are tied together through connectivity. The oven can text a phone when a meal is nearly ready, for example. Conspicously missing from the whole lineup were any LG tablet devices, however. During the press event, LG said it would announce a tablet product tomorrow.

In the meantime, we mobile users are left with the Optimus Black, which should tide many over until then. And I already got a private hands-on with the device, so stay tuned for a brief video within the next hour or two.

LG,after launching a hardware-geek-orgasmic Optimus 2x,today in CES and in a special press conference today, has unveiled the Optimus black, the direct answer to the galaxy s( finally! a bit too late but, again finally ! ).

So, this is the LG optimus with NOVA display (700 nits of brightness) “so bright so clear” is what LG claims. The Black is 9.2mm thick(slimmer than the iphone 4) and houses a 1500 maH battery in that slim casing.It runs froyo.has a 2 megapixel front facing camera but rear camera is unspecified .The phone will sell in the 1st half of 2011.story about the hardware is still developing…. keep an eye on here for updates.
