Out At The Landfill

I went out to the landfill to-day to see what I could find What can I say I hope you don’t mind I went to look for things that get thrown away things that get left behind by those we call human kind Things like tin cans electric fans boxes of rubber bands old pots and pans And lo and behold like some story yet to be told there you stood bright and bold in the blowing wind in the numbing cold looking around for buttons and pins a camera with a broken lens odds and ends like a fish with no fins odds and ends like tattered dresses once worn by twins Left overs cast-offs empty lofts ruins and pins row boats invalid votes unfinished sentences and lots of lost notes Look Look here An old toothbrush a case of Orange Crush and lots of other stuff and such Then I find an old book that had  parts of the Gospel that just might some day prove useful And there you stood scratching that rash in the midst of all that trash Oh if only I could find a diamond or some old  cold hard cash I could crack your code I could perceive your mode I could refurbish your abode before I could burn and crash over an unopened crate of outdated hash Here comes another load  another supply of unwanted objects rejects and cancelled checks and boxes and boxes of broken chicken necks I tip my hat in respect not knowing what next to expect or what to say in passing conversation what thoughts to interject And there you stood in the blowing wind holding  a battered picture frame a beat up tore up board game and a old postcard of someone whom no doubt once enjoyed a bit of fame Excuse me please Dare I ask you for your name Out at the landfill
