I really don’t like vegetables in juice. So I suspected that I might like this but it was better than expected. But the way that I would improve it is to remove the carrots. So I stand by my assertion that vegetables and fruit should be segregated in juice.

The psychedelic purple bag is a small lunch bag sized version of the bigger totes. Can fit a yogurt, apple, juice box, sandwich box and maybe a carrot too. The bigger totes are all purpose grocery/papers and books/purse type bags.

A bit of a tweet deal for companies

Twitter co-founder Biz Stone today confirmed plans for paid-for corporate accounts on the microblogging giant. Within these new commercial accounts users will gain an enhanced experience with access to analytical tools and ways to gain feedback from their followers. In the interview with the BBC, Stone comments;  “One of the first things we’re going to do explicitly is commercial accounts and that is providing a special layer of access. Twitter will always be free to everyone whether it is commercial or personal, but you’ll be able to pay for an additional layer of access to learn more about your Twitter account to get some freed back to get some analytics to help you become a better twitter

Keen to stress the free and openness of Twitter, Biz also took a pop at Rupert Murdoch’s plans for paid content during the interview. He said that he “would love to see what happens” if Murdoch’s plans of banning Google were to happen. His take on the situation: “They should be looking at this as an opportunity to try something radically different and find out a way to make a ton of money from being radically open rather than some money from being ridiculously closed.” Stone was in the mood for talking having also tipped his hat at possible media company and search engine team ups in the near future, naming Google and Bing as companies that he would like to get involved with. Even with the possible commercial deals with Orange and Vodafone announced this week, the plans for the future and over 7 million users worldwide Stone believes “We have a lot of work to do”.

#1 – Kansas Jayhawks

On a rematch of the NCAA championship game of two years ago, the result was the same. Huge win for the Jayhawks on neutral court in which they showed why they are the best team in the nation so far and which Aldrich showed why he’ll be a lottery pick in the NBA draft.

#2 – Michigan State Spartans

Tom Izzo and the Spartans remain undefeated after a week when they were tested by a very good Gonzaga team. Kalin Lucas has stepped up like we expected and lead the team in score.

#3 – Syracuse Orange

The Orange got the first title of the season. Jim Boeheim and Syracuse overcame all the questions that were raised about them, both coach, team and program, because of the loss against Les Moyne by winning the 2k9 Classic in which they beat California and North Carolina at MSG.

#4 – Kentucky Wildcats

The killer combination of John Wall and DeMarcus Cousins can be the key for the Wildcats moving on however so far they haven’t been tested. Calipari is 4-0 but the first test is a couple of weeks from now against the Tar Heels.

#5 – Texas Longhorns

The Longhorns defense has just been superb. Yes, they haven’t been tested yet but the expectations around this team are high.

At Juvenile Hall in Orange County Scout, Biscuit and Gizmo were released to new homes last Friday, Nov 20th. What a special, awesome program between the county’s Community Resources Department, the Probation Department and Another Chance for Love! Taking on extra duties of training, maintaining and bonding with the three dogs were nine young men (17 and 18 years old) as they learned what having patience is all about! This is a remarkable story. I hope they repeat the opportunity often to the young men there! The Apprentice

OMG OMG OMG! I actually deep fried something well! Woah! This is huge!! Remember when I was an absolute failure at making everything deep fried. Well I can do it now!!

Now that I’ve gotten the excitement out of my system, lets move on to the actual way this worked. I used a candy thermometer and heated the oil to 350°F. I’ve discovered that the secret to making it happen well is to make sure that the oil is at a constant temperature and that you use a whole pot of oil and not just a pan with a small layer.

I used precooked frozen de-veined shrimp and defrosted them. When you deep-fry the shrimp, the crust will fry and the shrimp won’t get too overcooked because they’ll be cold to begin with. They’ll just heat through. Frozen shrimp go on sale often so you can just buy a bag and keep them until you’re ready for this recipe.

There is a 3-step process to creating the coconut crust. First dredge the shrimp in flour so it has a thin coat on it. Then dip them in egg with salt and pepper. You can just whisk the egg with a fork quickly. Finally dredge the shrimp in an equal parts mixture of shredded coconut and Panko bread crumbs. Panko bread crumbs are Japanese bread crumbs that are lighter than most other bread crumbs. They’re becoming popular in American cooking, so you should be able to find them in your local supermarket. The coconut was on sale this week, which is what inspired this dish.

Then put a few coated shrimp in the hot oil. You can do about 6 at a time. If you add too many to the oil the temperature will drop too much. After the crust has browned use a metal strainer to pull the shrimp out of the hot oil and put them on a paper towel to drain. Continue in batches until all the shrimp are done.

For the sauce, mix together vinegar, orange marmalade and hot sauce. Start with a little bit of hot sauce and add more until it is as spicy as you want.

En pocas ocasiones hemos visto a personas presumir de una adicción: ni al tabaco, ni al sexo, ni al juego… Pero los tiempos cambian, y a día de hoy pocas cosas deberían sorprendernos. Mucho menos cuando hablamos de Internet. Una herramienta que ha abierto miles y miles de millones de puertas, todas ellas al mismo tiempo para llevar a cabo otras tantas tareas en cualquier punto del mundo donde llega Internet. Una de esas tareas es chatear, colgar fotos, hablar con los amigos… Tareas que reúne Tuenti.

Tuenti es la mayor red social española. Básicamente para el público joven, no hay muchas personas mayores, muchos carcas conectados a Tuenti; es un mundo de jóvenes que están en el instituto o en la universidad, en la gran mayoría. Un público consumista que está atento a cualquier tipo de novedad musical, cinematográfica… Un público al que si se le ofrece un anuncio para ir gratis a una fiesta, va de cabeza a la fiesta. Tuenti está segmentando absolutamente, los perfiles de los usuarios permiten ver la edad del que tiene un perfil en Tuenti, su estado civil, su fecha de nacimiento, sus gustos, aficiones… Un chollo para los publicistas que quieren obtener un público directo, sin ningún tipo de intermediarios. Por eso la publicidad cada vez va a estar más presente en Tuenti; si esto es bueno o malo se verá con el tiempo, no es posible decirlo ahora, a priori. Lo que sí se puede decir es que para muchos Tuenti ha pasado de ser una vía más de comunicación con los amigos (o no amigos, pasa como en Facebook, se pueden tener cientos o miles de amigos, pero amigos de verdad hay muchos menos), para colgar fotos, enviar mensajes (ahora también a través del móvil, ya no hace falta conectarse a un ordenador) y tener una red de amigos, que es para lo que sirve Tuenti.

Para todas estas personas enganchadas a Tuenti esta red social se ha convertido en una adicción: el caldo de cultivo perfecto para los publicistas. ¿A quién se le puede enviar mejor un anuncio a través de Tuenti, a una persona que se conecta dos minutos al día para ver si tiene un mensaje nuevo o un comentario, o a una persona que está más de 80 MINUTOS conectada en Tuenti? Obviamente a la segunda persona. Ojo, son 80 MINUTOS, casi una hora y media delante del ordenador conectado en Tuenti, bien chateando (hace poco tiempo Tuenti ha puesto en marcha la posibilidad de chatear con los amigos de Tuenti, de esta manera compite con Messenger), bien subiendo fotos, bien escribiendo comentarios sin parar en los tablones de los amigos (o de los no amigos), bien creando eventos y enviándolos a todo Dios… Así te vas liando, y te tiras tanto tiempo en Tuenti. Esto, que puede significar una adicción para muchos, es una ventaja para otros, a los que no les importa demasiado que pueda haber usuarios de Tuenti pegados todo el día al ordenador a la espera de una actualización (ya sea una nueva foto subida, un nuevo comentario, un nuevo mensaje, un nuevo evento, una nueva conversación…). Porque los 80 minutos que llegan a estar algunos usuarios (más que fieles a Tuenti, adictos; una persona puede ser fiel a una marca de pantalones, por ejemplo Levis, y no comprarse 5 vaqueros al día) no van a estar 80 minutos seguidos -o sí-, sino que pueden conectarse cada 10 minutos sólo durante 2 ó 3 minutos; de esta manera si hacemos las cuentas nos vamos a sorprender del tiempo que puede estar una persona pendiente de Tuenti. Y de nada más.

Koro Castellano, directora general de Tuenti, ya habla de la inexistencia de las personas que no están en una red social. Así vamos bien; claro, con esta idea se llega a una conclusión muy sencilla: si no estoy en Tuenti no existo, por lo que tengo que pasar el mayor tiempo posible conectado a Tuenti porque de esta manera existo más. Mucho más si estoy conectado más de 80 minutos diarios que si estoy 2 minutos al día para ver si hay alguna novedad, contestar a algún posible mensaje o comentario, y seguir con mi vida. Porque más vale la pena hacer que Tuenti sea mi vida, aunque sea una adicción, aunque sea un “tuentiadicto”, a ser un marginado que o tiene Tuenti y no lo utiliza, o algo mucho peor: no tener Tuenti.

Porque la persona que no actualiza su Tuenti colgando todas las fotos del fin de semana, o escribiendo un comentario a todos sus contactos, aunque los haya visto hace una hora, haya hablado con ellos de todo lo que pueden hablar hasta el punto de que a pesar de que no haya pasado nada en la hora que has pasado sin verlos, tienes que escribir para que sepan que existes, porque tanto tiempo sin escribir en Tuenti es muy malo, vas desapareciendo como si fueses Michael J. Fox en Regreso al Futuro; porque la persona que no vive pendiente de Tuenti, la que no envía eventos todos los días, la que no escribe ni recibe mensajes, la que no chatea con sus contactos por Tuenti (ahora Messenger se ha quedado para los soseras que prefieren Messenger a Tuenti), la que, en definitiva, no es un “tuentiadicto”, es un marginado social, no existe para los demás.

Descartes decía “Pienso, luego existo“. Ahora hay que decir “Soy un tuentiadicto, luego existo“. No queda otra. Los que no estén 80 minutos diarios en Tuenti no serán definidos como gente guay que está a la última. Eso sí, hemos de tener en cuenta que esta media es engañosa: si una persona está 140 minutos al día en Tuenti y otra está 20 minutos, la media es de 80 minutos, pero una está 120 minutos (2 horas) más que la otra. La diferencia es enorme, mucho menos, eso sí, que si una persona está 2 minutos al día y otra está 158 minutos: la media es igualmente de 80 minutos, pero una persona sólo está 2 minutos. Estos pocos minutos demuestran que una persona utiliza Tuenti para ver qué hacen sus amigos, para estar atento de forma concisa de si tiene un comentario nuevo o de si le han escrito un mensaje (que como es gratuito sale más barato que enviar un SMS por el móvil, aunque aún queda la posibilidad de enviar un correo electrónico, salvo para los “tuentiadictos” que ya se hayan olvidado de que existe el correo electrónico -y no digamos ya de enviar una carta a través del correo ordinario, eso es ya una cosa de la Guerra Civil). Y ya está, no hay más, se entra un momento, si hay un mensaje o un comentario se responde, y no es necesario estar casi una hora y media al día conectado. Tampoco es necesario, aunque la práctica ya se está asentando, escribir comentarios a través del teléfono móvil. La directora general de Tuenti ha comentado en una entrevista a Telecinco que es está negociando con las operadoras telefónicas para que se pueda hacer con cualquiera de ellas. Como es obvio hay que pensar que o bien las telefónicas cobran por este servicio directamente al usuario, o el usuario no cobra pero Tuenti se hará cargo de los gastos pagando con los beneficios publicitarios. Sea como sea la fórmula elegida, lo que está claro es que Movistar, Vodafone, Orange… no van a ser altruistas y no van a permitir que el servicio sea absolutamente gratuito.

La ventaja, eso sí, que tiene escribir comentarios en Tuenti a través del teléfono móvil, como se ha comentado antes, es que no hace falta estar conectado al ordenador. El móvil te lo llevas a todos los lados, y en cualquier momento utilizas el servicio del Tuenti Móvil y escribes un comentario; puedes estar en clase, paseando por la calle, en el baño de una discoteca o en la playa. Estés donde estés lo más importante en la vida para un “tuentiadicto” es escribir comentarios en Tuenti. Un día sin escribir un comentario es un día perdido en la vida de una persona, te quedas vacío por dentro, una parte de ti desaparece, te vas muriendo poco a poco, tu vida pierde sentido, entras en una vorágine de perdición y olvido, tus padres no te reconocen, tus amigos te dan la espalda y ya no te hablan, tu novio o novia dejar de echar un polvo contigo… ¿Por qué? Porque has dejado de ser un “tuentiadicto” que está más de 80 minutos al día conectado y eres una persona sin adicciones de ningún tipo, lo que antes se conocía por el nombre de ser “una persona normal”. Y eso para un “tuentiadicto” es tan malo como para un fan de Crepúsculo escuchar que el protagonista es feo o que la película es una mierda (si es que lo es). Es lo peor, y quien diga que Crepúsculo no vale para nada o quien diga que no es un “tuentiadicto” se convierten en lo peor, en seres despreciables que no saben que Tuenti es lo más, que las adicciones son buenas, y que aunque no todas las adicciones son buenas, la adicción a Tuenti sí lo es.

Y Koro Castellano no es tonta, en absoluto. Sabe que Tuenti tiene casi 7 millones de usuarios, que es un negocio en forma de burbuja, que se infla cada día más; eso sí, se supone que Tuenti tendrá cuidado para que la burbuja no explote. Porque como se les vaya de las manos van a dejar a cientos de miles de “tuentiadictos” deambulando por las calles sin saber por dónde ir. ¿Qué pasaría con los pobres “tuentiadictos” si un día Tuenti desaparece? Tendrían que volver a la vida fuera de Internet, fuera de Tuenti, tendrían que hablar cara a cara con las personas, como se hacía antiguamente, como hacían nuestros antepasados más remotos. Y eso es muy chungo, es inimaginable, sería una locura que para volver a reinsertarse en la sociedad los “tuentiadictos” tueviesen que hablar utilizando la boca y no los dedos, y no pulsando las teclas del ordenador o las teclas del teléfono móvil. Los “tuentiadictos” se convertirían, sin Tuenti, en los futuros despojos humanos, estarían tirados en la calle en busca de un nuevo evento al que acudir (o al menos harían click en “Voy a ir”). Ya no existirían como personas, se lo ha dicho la directora general de Tuenti, sin pertenecer a Tuenti ya no existirían, y para un ser humano -casi más para un adolescente, que en esa etapa de su vida lo pasa muy mal- hay pocas cosas más temibles que dejar de existir. Si esto sucede Tuenti tendría que hacer como Facebook, crear un Tuenti para muertos con las fotos de los perfiles de todos los usuarios que han utilizado Tuenti en algún momento de su vida (fotos de verdad, no de modelos o de actrices/actores porno).

Pero mientras esto sucede (la desaparición de Tuenti y la deambulación por las calles de los “tuentiadictos” como si fuesen zombies), si es que sucede, Tuenti seguirá existiendo, la publicidad irá a más, se segmentará cada vez más y sólo llegará a los “tuentiadictos” más fieles que beberán una bebida pensando que son libres y diferentes a los demás sólo por beber una bebida concreta, sin saber que a fin de cuentas son una parte más de la sociedad del consumo, que son iguales a los que consumen en masa otros productos, aunque el producto que ellos consumen se venda como el consumo de los que deciden ser libres y diferentes a los demás. Así que los “tuentiadictos” no deben preocuparse, por el momento, de quedarse tirados en la calle sin poder conectarse 80 minutos o más al día a Tuenti.

Mientras siga habiendo Tuenti será habiendo “tuentiadictos”, y Koro Castellano, la directora general de Tuenti, podrá seguir presumiendo de una adicción masiva a Tuenti. Una frase cojonuda para los que estén ganando dinero gracias a Tuenti; unas declaraciones peligrosas para cualquier sociólogo o antropólogo. Pero a fin de cuentas lo que más importa en esta vida es ganar dinero, y si una adicción se puede enmascarar bajo el nombre de fidelidad, pues se esconde.

¿A quién cojones le importa que haya una juventud adicta a Tuenti mientras se gane dinero a costa de esta adicción?

My sister Kateri sent me this Lobster mold and I wanted to use it right away so I made a lobster jello for yet another Scorpio birthday, Jacob’s. This orange jello lobster with pistachio D’gari jello base is actually a remake of the original jello made for the party that did not turn out looking quite as expected.

In addition to Jacob’s birthday, the party was also to celebrate Hoover’s one year anniversary of living in our Brooklyn neighborhood of Greenpoint.  To commemorate the occasion I made him these little green points of pineapple jello died green with vodka and topped with sweetened condensed milk.

I have to say a huge thank you to my friend Joe for these awesome holiday-themed silicone mini baking dishes. What an inspired gift. And yesterday I had the perfect opportunity to use them when I was halfway through mixing the ingredients for a bundt cake and realized that I’d lost my bundt pan. Plan B: holiday cakes.

The pumpkin is my favorite because there are little ridges in the dish that give the cake that authentic pumpkin feel…

How cute are these?

I will definitely be busting out the tree and heart molds again over the next couple of months, but today I’m celebrating every fall/winter holiday.

I haven’t yet been inspired as to how to frost these, so suggestions are welcome. I’m not a fan of sugary frostings or icings myself, and I might just leave them as is and serve them with non-dairy ice cream. We’ll see!

Oh, and how does the cake taste? Fabulous, of course, because I got the recipe from FatFree Vegan Kitchen! It’s super moist and spongey, and I definitely recommend it.

Pour 4 personnes

600 gr de steak de biche (j’ai pris de l’autruche)
200 gr girolles (j’ai pris un mélange de champis des bois)

Sauce au cacao et zestes d’orange
190 ml de fumet de gibier (j’en avais pas, j’ai pris un bouillon de boeuf bien concentré)
3 dl de vin rouge
le zeste et le jus d’une orange
3 grains de genièvre écrasés
1 pincée de cannelle (j’ai mis un petit bout de bâton)
2 càs de cacao van houten
1 càs de fécule de maïs
1 càs de beurre

1. pour la sauce: faire chauffer le fumet, le vin, le zeste et le jus d’orange avec les épices. Laisser réduire de un tiers. Mélanger le cacao avec la càs de sauce et y ajouter la fécule. Bien mélanger. Incorporer le mélange à la sauce, en fouettant. Réserver au chaud.
2. Faire cuire les steaks 3 minutes de chaque côté, envelopper dans du papier alu et laisser reposer.
3. faire revenir les champignons à feu vif dans le beurre.
4. Couper les steaks en fines tranches, poser sur les assiettes avec un gratin dauphinois ou des tagliatelles, et les girolles. Napper de sauce.
