Ratiunea…sentimentul…au legatura? Trebuie mereu sa ne luam dupa ratiune? Aparentele sunt vazute cu ochii. Esenta insa este vazuta cu inima, este invizibila ochilor.
O negreala tacuta imi cuprinde universul in care singura arma de aparare imi este bunatatea. Totdeauna a fost numai plumb, un plumb greu care pare sa nu se mai ridice de pe vaporul sufletului meu.

Te-am simtit doar izbindu-mi timpanele cu glasul spumegand, inspirandu-ti prospetimea, curpinzandu-mi corpul. Imbinarea perfecta a solfegiului valurilor tale, caldura care o transmiti, numai eu o pot simti.

O dorinta frenetica ma apasa mereu, vreau sa te reflectezi in universul meu pacuriu sub forma unor proiectii ortogonale inmuiate intr-o lumanare din care sa preiei incandescenta monocromatica a acesteia.

Oare cum o fi sa vezi din tine izvorand in miliarde de particule, bila inflacarata ? Inima mea poate simti revarsarile fierbinti ale sagetilor cuprite pe pielea mea ca o supunere la radiatii carminice.

Cand te privesc simt o sumedenie de purici parca desprinsi din paine. Imi cuprind picioarele care se ineaca in mlastina lor. Ma aplec si ii cuprind cu palma, insa se strecoara alunecandu-mi fin printre degete. Imi este putin frica, sentimentul de straniu punandu-mi stapanire pe intreg corpul. Pana la urma, oricum n-am ce face.

Oare aceasta este viata reala ? Ma asez pe spate si sunt cuprins de o rapsodie de peruzea care incepe sa-mi coordoneze gandirea ducandu-ma intr-o fantezie neobisnuita. Ecranul televizorului meu devenise din alb negru – color. Am putut observa pe cer doi bureti gri, cerul de un albastru opac si…marea. Nu pot descrie amestecurile omogene ale valurilor care se intrepatrund dupa fiecare deviere a lor de catre adierea vantului meditareean. Insa pe retina mea se refracta un bat de ipsos cu un varf sferic in care se imbina ca o portie de Eden cu un miez rosu de piersica fiind copta, alternand cu un galben suplu. Este focul…in mijlocul marii. Deodata magnetii ochilor mei sunt atrasi de acea flacara, care insantaneu devine epicentrul meu, nevoindu-ma sa ma transpun langa ea, neglijand apa din jur.

Acest lucru imi lipseste mie pentru a avea o anatomie perfecta – lumina din globurile cristaline. Deodata o picatura de roua…urmata de inca una…si-nca una imi cad din cele doua becuri iluminatoare. Si instantaneu aceasta sclipere oculara imi este luata…. trezindu-ma cu substanta cu caracter amfoter peste mine. Era flux.

Acum m-am trezit din nou la realitate. O realitate intunecata in care singurul scop al nasterii mele este sa te iubesc pe tine ascultandu-ti visele crude ridicate la inaltimi uluitoare pe FA diez de un tenor capabil sa cuprinda 4 octave perfecte. Am incercat sa imi metamorfozez universul rece dominat de negru, insa nu am putut…Nu am putut sa dezlusesc anumite taine ale naturii, nu am putut sa ma bucur de zambetul soarelui, dar am putut sa fiu mangaiat de unsoarea algelor ; sa inteleg misterele adancului pictate intr-un infinit testament. Nu am putut sa imi indeplinesc dorinta, sa vad apusul. De fapt, sa ii vad aparenta. Am ramas cu un creion cu care mi-l pot imagina stand cu un alter ego – marea. Nimeni nu poate percepe mai bine ca mine rasaritul. Il vad propagandu-se in mii de difuzii acordate perfect de dirijorul vietii – natura. Mi-a patruns in inima prin urechi, atingand usor membrana fina care este timpanul. Inima imi coordoneaza simturile si realizez frumusetea acestei placeri vizuale.

Cu un bat scriu pe nisip ca as vrea sa fiu iubit de tine ca si cum n-ar exista maine si semnez discret cu o picatura de cerneala. Singura fiinta care imi poate reda lumea inconjuratoare perceputa de aparatul vizual esti tu, marea.

Case #20593 “I looked out the window to see if I see anything and I catch an array of strange orbs or ufos flying about.. I guess they are putting on a nice colorful show because of the sighting I had earlier in the day that scared the living crap out of me.. I told “them” I would not record them anymore and that, they can’t come in the form of “blackchoppeprs” because it is too scary especially when flying low. They decided to come in the form of ORBS and entertain, I guess to apologize for the scare.. Look and enjoy.. This is over NYC, Central Park and Mid-town area…. Began around 7:40pm until 9pm. Then it was completely quite the entire night.”

Case #20606 “I filmed this on 11,17,09 part of a sequence of lights that was going about in the NYC sky. I was looking at the UFO or “CRAFT” hover and stay in one spot in the air while it flickered strange lights.. You can’t see it on the film but, a WHITE orb detaches and flies away from the “CRAFT”. Its the reason I zoom out from the sparkling lights. The Gold/White sphere moves at a nice gentle speed over Central Park. Truly amazing.”

“Is your inn haunted?” I can’t begin to count the times I’ve been asked that question on the phone by travelers looking for lodging. I always answer honestly the way I see it (and feel it), which is that this old place does have a strong spiritual essence, but I wouldn’t say that it’s haunted. I have never experienced “hauntings” at the inn. It’s not a spooky or scary place at all, if that’s what they mean by “haunted”.

Most who have visited the Nancy Shepherd House have remarked after a night of good restful sleep that there is a such a feeling of total peace at this inn. So if there are any ghosts around, they are happy and content ghosts and the sport of spooking the building’s living occupants is not their thing. That’s not to say that the presence of of some sort of friendly spiritual being or beings can not be felt by quite a few people who spend time at the Nancy Shepherd House Inn.

I have spent many hours, days, and nights in this ancient building, much of the time alone here. Most of my overnight stays here were back in the late 1980s and 1990s, when the building was in a state of ruin, with dark empty halls and rooms of cobwebs and crumbling plaster. That was when this place should have felt spooky. But even then the vibe was, “Come on in…relax…stay a while.” And to this day, I have never seen, heard, or felt anything that would make me think, “ghost!”, or “boo!” I have never witnessed any paranormal occurance or felt any unpleasant karma to drive me out of the building. But I have always sensed a constant warm and kind spritual presence in and around the building.

Until recently, only one overnight guest had claimed to have had an actual ghost experience at the inn. That guest says she was awakened in the night by her bedroom door slowly opening and closing on its own with nobody at the door to do it. She was slightly startled, but says she was not scared and slept peacefully the rest of the night. She very comfortably accepts the experience as a ghost happening at the inn. It was the only “ghost happening” reported by a guest that I had heard about, until…

Well, not too long ago the Nancy Shepherd House Inn had its first true paranormal research scientist (along with her assistant) for a weekend stay. From historical research, she knew that during the war, the inn and its grounds had been used for the medical treatment of injured soldiers, and that simply because of the age of the building the probability that people had died here was high. So she chose the Nancy Shepherd House Inn because of the strong likelyhood of good paranormal activity. I remember telling her on the phone after she had explained her interest in the inn that if she was looking for ghosts, she may be disappointed. I said, “no haunting here”. She felt sure I was wrong and booked two nights at the inn.

These interesting guests arrived at the inn bringing in several boxes and totes containing all kinds of specialized high-grade cameras and professional equipment, including electro-magnetic field detectors, ectoplasm detectors, orb detectors, infrared energy sensors, computers, tripods, etc.

Over the next two days, what this paranormal scientist and her associate discovered about the inn and its grounds was significant, to say the least. Even these ghost-tracking guests were amazed by their own findings. I know I certainly was!

It’s not quite the sort of do it yourself which B&Q is traditionally known for but ‘Lights by B&Q‘ is looking like a perfect ambient orb kit. I almost managed to resist getting one while buying paint for the bathroom, but it just looked too tempting…

Getting inside was easy, with just a few screws holding the back in place. Once in, there’s a simple string of little circuit boards glued to plastic balls. A bit of levering popped the first one off to reveal a set of three LEDs, and it looks like they’re soldered on in a common anode arrangement…

You could just ditch the RGB circuits completely and pop in a few blinkms but I’d like to reuse what’s already in B&Q’s handy kit. I think it should be possible to cut the tracks to the colour changing circuit and wire the LEDs up to an Arduino instead. The problem is that there aren’t enough PWM outputs on a single Arduino to drive three RGB orbs. Fortunately a combination of a TLC5940 LED driver chip, and the Arduino library to go with it, should solve that problem.

Orb Fans, Psychic Sterling Sinclair Shoots Another Orb for You, November 3, 2009

Windows/Mac only: Free application Orb lets you access music, video, and other media stored on your computer from virtually any device (Wii, PS3, cell phone, etc.). It’s been around a while on Windows, but today it’s also available on the Mac.

We’ve been fans of Orb for years now, having used it to stream music to any PC and use our Wii as a media center, and now the same sort of great functionality is available to both Windows and Mac users. Using it is dead simple: Just install the Orb application, point it toward your media, then head to http://mycast.orb.com/. Once you log in, you can access any of your media through your browser or device-specific interface. (See our guides above for finer points on different devices.)

As Macworld points out, Orb is also now available as a $10 iPhone app or a free trial app. $10 isn’t cheap, but it if you’re an Orb user, the easy access to all your computer’s media is a pretty sweet deal.

St. Augustine Lighthouse

This building is the entrance to the lighthouse in St. Augustine, Florida.  Just above the bench on the left is a solid, white ball of light.  It wasn’t visible when I took the photo.  Is it a “spirit” or just the flash reflecting off an insect?  I don’t know.

Frankly, I lean towards the insect reflection explanation as I’m extremely leery of paranormal explanations for “orb” photos.  Serious research into the subject has all but ruled out “ghostly” accounts for so-called “orbs” (see for example, this site).  Even in this photo, there are other explainable “spots,” including the blue one in the upper left.

Regardless, I think it’s still a pretty cool photo, and I will add, of all the photos I took during a weekend worth of investigations in St. Augustine, while many showed other easily explainable “spots,” this was the only one containing a solid ball of light.

Psychic Sterling Sinclair Sunrise Pictures of the Day, November 4, 2009, “Is That a Force Field?”

Well if you thought the stuff in front or on or coming from the moon last night was intriguing, take a look at this forcefield like dome far out from the sun.

This may look like a camera lens reaction to the sunlight but I could see it with my polarized sunglasses on.

We are not alone.

It was as if I was looking into a huge orb.

I have never shot this before.

One thing that I have forgotten to meantion is that for about a week now, the air looks thick as if everything is in a think fog.  It makes everything pink, blue, or purple some days for short periods of time.

While this has been here, I have seen many people who are very tall and very thin looking around or sitting always with their legs crossed and then, theydisappear into the thickened air.

Last night, I went to a reading of Vivienne Westwood’s Active Resistance Against Propaganda, organised by The Last Tuesday Society, at  The Tabernacle in Notting Hill.  The manifesto was read by Viv herself and children’s theatre group, The YoungStars Academy, in front of an audience of fashionistas, activists, artists, students and proud parents.

Vivienne Westwood was as flamboyant as ever in a glorious printed jumpsuit, white statement specs and a headband with BRANDED emblazoned on the front.  She introduced the manifesto to a rapturous applause and the children read their parts aloud.

Two of the older kids played the main characters, Alice and Pinocchio exceptionally well and everyone in the audience squealed when the tiny girl playing the White Rabbit bunny hopped across the stage, wearing tufty white rabbit ears – so sweet!

Vivienne Westwood wrote her manifesto 2 years ago and it has since been performed twice – the second time I peered through the glass of the Design Museum while out and about on the South Bank to see Vivienne reciting it with the help of Peaches Geldof and what looked like Jaime Winstone from a distance. 

Vivienne believes that by immersing ourselves in art and culture, we can find happiness in a soulless age, and that as judges of culture, we should strive to get the art that we deserve.  She had a few stories to tell about modern art ‘bullshitters’ who questioned her sense of appreciation because she didn’t deem their works as relevant or true art.

Another part of her ideology is that art should be universal and if the meaning is obscured or inexplicable for the majority , then it is not really art. I agree that the artist should be able to explain his state of mind and motivation, but art based on complex theories shouldn’t be dumbed down for a quick overview, and sometimes a bit of mystery and open-endedness can be enjoyable.

Vivienne references Aldous Huxley in her manifesto and agreed with his peceived three evils in the world -  nationalistic idolatry, non-stop distraction and organised lying. By taking influence from art and to some degree history, Viv believes that you can make yourself completely immune from propaganda and their detriments.

The reading was really entertaining as well as educational, as Vivienne’s humour, warmth and passion really brought the words to life.  She digressed, dismissed things as quickly as stating them and told amusing stories to stress her points.  Vivienne had the disarmed nature of a family member rather than one of Britain’s biggest fashion icons, although what she was saying was not to be taken lightly.

There was a bit of time left to answer just three questions and as usual in Q and A sessions, an audience member perplexed both Vivienne and the audience with her overblown terminology and pedantic questioning regarding spiritualism and the ‘earth keepers’ in the Amazon. Saving the rainforest was meant as a post-script to the reading, and I’m still not sure if she was suggesting that Vivienne should go and live with a rainforest tribe or something. The confrontation did make Vivienne more impassioned and urgent though, and she came off-stage to discussed it with her while everyone went downstairs for a complementary Hendricks gin and tonic and some tropical beats from Todd Hart of Dalston Oxfam Shop.

Like the majority of the audience, I left the reading feeling inspired and while there were some aspects that I didn’t necessarily agree with, Vivienne reminded me to pursue knowledge and to try and find what it is that at this point in life will make me truly happy. So, remember what Vivienne says: books are cool, culture is vital and pretentious ‘art’ is bullshit.

Sergiu Ciobanu, originar din Moldova, a castigat trofeul si premiul pentru cel mai bun alergator reprezentand Republica Irlanda la cea de-a 30-a editie a Maratonului Dublin, disputata luni in capitala “Insulei de Smarald”. Ciobanu a inregistrat timpul de doua ore, 22 minute si 6 secunde pe cei 42,2 kilometri ai popularei competitii ce a reunit la start peste 12.000 participanti, dintre care 10.446 au trecut linia de sosire, printre care un orb, un barbat paralizat de la gat in jos ori un participant ce a optat pentru a alerga distanta cu spatele la traseu.

Ciobanu a sosit pe locul 15 in clasamentul general al cursei castigate de un etiopian de 19 ani, Feyisa Lilesa, care, inregistrand timpul de 2:09:12, a ratat cu doar 5 secunde egalarea recordului acestui maraton, detinut din 2007 de alergatorul rus Alexei Sokolov, sosit acum al doilea, in 2:10:38, urmat pe podium de kenianul Serem.

Lilesa este primul etiopian invingator la Dublin, dupa ce kenienii se impusesera intre 1995 si ‘99 respectiv 2002 si 2004, in ultimii ani triumfand doar ucrainieni, si anume Osadchy in 2005 si Naumov anul trecut, respectiv rusul Sokolov, ce si-a pastrat titlul in 2007, cand stabilea si recordul cursei.

Naumov, sosit acum al optulea, a fost “salvat” de compatrioata Stetsenko, invingatoare la feminin in 2;32:45, inaintea unei namibience si a unei etiopience.

Ciobanu, concurand la categoria barbati 30-35 ani, pentru clubul local Clonliffe Harriers, intra astfel in posesia trofeului special acordat maratonistilor localnici, din Irlanda, plus a premiilor de 1.500 euro, pentru primul intre barbatii de la cluburi irlandeze, respectiv de 1.000 euro, bonus pentru sosirea intr-un timp mai bun de doua ore si 23 minute. Ciobanu a sosit al 12-lea la categoria sa de varsta, SM, senior men (30-35 ani).

De fapt, doar maratonisti africani respectiv din fostul bloc sovietic au sosit intre primii 15, etiopianul aflat la primul sau maraton din cariera fiind urmat de  alergatori din Kenya, Namibia, Rusia si Ucraina, plus merituosul moldovean irlandez. Ponderea celor aliniati la start a fost data in mare majoritate de alergatorii autohtoni, din insula verde, ceea ce face performanta lui Ciobanu, membru al unui club atletic local, cu atat mai meritorie.

La start s-au aflat si 29 irlandezi prezenti la toate cele 30 de editii ale Maratonului Dublin, niste adevarati veterani ai probei. Maratonul a fost ireprosabil organizat iar aportul voluntarilor si suportul entuziast al localnicilor, insiruiti in numar mare de-a lungul traseului ce ne-a purtat la nord si sud de raul Liffey ori de Grand Canal, trecute de cate doua ori, plus prin maiestuosul Phoenix Park, cea mai mare intindere verde publica din spatiul citadin in intreaga Europa, a transformat concursul intr-o adevarata sarbatoare de neuitat.

Traseul, pe ultima sa portiune, ne-a purtat prin preajma University College Dublin si terenul de golf Elm Park, trecand de doua ori si raul Dodder, ce spinteca sud-estul capitalei, inconjurand apoi spre final faimosul Trinity College, de unde ultima portiune a condus spre piata Merrion Square.

Am incheiat putin sub patru ore, in 3:56:49, la capatul unui sezon cu numeroase maratoane si dupa Wroclaw Marathon si Maratonul Dracula, din 13 septembrie si 11 octombrie, incercari intr-un interval comprimat de timp care m-au facut sa parcurg Dublinul intr-un ritm de 9 minute pe mila, circa 15 minute si jumatate pe kilometru. Picioarele la orizontala, in repaus. Hibernare.

Succesul competitiei a fost dat de aportul substantial al unor sponsori puternici, dintre care doi, Lifestyle Sports si Adidas, isi regasesc numele in titulatura oficiala a Maratonului din Dublin.

Traseul a trecut pe la baza statuii lui O'Connell, in inima Dublinului

... si pe langa cea a lui James Joyce... Suntem in patria dramaturgilor, satiristilor... Beckett, Yeats, Shaw, Wilde.

Trecuseră cinci ani de când David îşi pierduse soţia şi fetiţa în accidentul auto. Individul care provocase accidentul fugise de la locul faptei, dar toţi ştiau că incidentul a fost premeditat, David fiind foarte invidiat pentru talentul său. Nu a mai ieşit din casă de atunci, iar mass media, care era obişnuită să-l aibă, cel puţin odată la câteva luni pe prima pagină a ziarelor, bănuia că pictorul s-a stins de durerea singurătăţii. David îşi vânduse apartamentul de două camere şi îşi cumpără o garsonieră la periferia oraşului, pentru a se feri de ochii curioşi ai oamenilor, dar şi pentru a avea bani cât să trăiască decent o vreme. Nu se mai gândea de mult timp la pictura iar, dacă o făcea, era pentru a-şi reproşa timpul petrecut cu pensula în mână şi cu şevaletul în faţă, timp pe care l-ar fi putut petrece cu familia sa. Costurile vieţii începeau să devină din ce în ce mai contrângătoare, iar banii agonisiţi erau pe terminate. David îşi reaminti peisajele redate cu patimă pe pânză şi brusc, parcă auzi vocea soţiei sale: „Davide, mai lasă natura, peisajele, încearcă să imortalizezi chipuri. Pe mine de ce nu vrei să mă pictezi?”. „Este timp pentru toate”, era mereu răspunsul bărbatului. La cei 35 de ani ai săi, David era îmbătrânit înainte de vreme, iar lacrimile pe care le vărsa când se gândea la viaţa lui nu făceau altceva decât să-i evidenţieze ridurile.

Dimineaţa aceasta de mai fu diferită faţă de altele. David se ridică din pat şi puse mâna pe telefon.

- Ce faci, Luca? îşi întrebă fugitiv fratele. Am o rugăminte la tine. Îmi aduci şi mie pânzele, pensulele şi toate celelalte materiale din depozit când vii pe aici?

Mut de uimire, Luca se bucură în sinea sa, aşteptând de mult timp acest moment.

- Te reapuci de pictat? Ţi le aduc, cum să nu…

- Şi poţi să dai şi un anunţ în ziar? Aş vrea să sune în felul următor: „Pictor, realizez portrete la comandă, după cerinţele clienţilor. Marius Vincente”…

- Eşti sigur că asta vrei? Crezi că te vei descurca? Portrete…mă gândeam că tot la peisaje te gândeşti..şi numele…de ce nu vrei să trecem numele tău? se nedumeri Luca.

- Nu am dispoziţia necesară pentru a îţi da explicaţii! Dacă vrei să mă ajuţi bine, dacă nu, nu, apelez la altcineva. Şi da, cred că mă pot descurca, se arătă David, mai mult decât indignat.

- În maxim două ore sunt la tine cu tot ce mi-ai cerut, spuse Luca mai mult pentru el, realizând că fratele său închisese telefonul.

Doi ani mai târziu. Tot oraşul vuia despre un portretist remarcabil, care adopta o tehnică nouă, apreciată în special de către clienţi. Se spune că Marius Vincente punea pe pânză cuvintele clienţilor. Era foarte retras, în garsoniera sa transformată în atelier şi deşi presa se zbătea să-i ia un interviu, răspunsul său negativ era categoric. Rar îl prindeai până şi la telefon. Fratele său era cel care răspundea, aranja şedinţele de pictură şi refuza conferinţele de presă la care era invitat Marius. Telefonul sună, iar sunetul său îl trezi pe Marius din visarea datorată unei ploi tomnatice.

- Bună ziua, aş dori să mă programaţi pentru un portret, dacă se poate. Numele meu este Alma Ştefănescu. Cam când m-aţi putea programa? se auzi în receptor o voce melodioasă, dar hotărâtă şi cu o dicţie de invidiat.

- Bună ziua, doamnă! Azi sunt cam ocupat, dar mâine pe la ora 10 credeţi că puteţi veni? întrebă Marius, încă ameţit de zgomotul picăturilor de ploaie.

- Este perfect. Voi fi mâine acolo.

- Adresa este..doamnă? mai sunteţi pe fir? Fir-ar, spuse Marius şi puse receptorul în furcă.

A doua zi, la ora 10, Alma intră în garsonieră, uşa fiindu-i deschisă de Luca. Acesta  o rugă pe femeie, după scurte politeţuri, să nu se mişte de pe canapea în timpul şedinţei, deoarece îi distrage atenţia lui Marius. O avertiză că, dacă nu respectă această indicaţie, şedinţa se va termina fără a putea fi reluată. Alma păru să înţeleagă avertizarea, deşi zâmbi ştrengăreşte.Fu condusă în micul atelier, unde îl observă pe Marius în spatele şevaletului. Figura sa îi amintea de cineva, dar nu putea spune de cine. Gândurile îi fură întrerupte de vocea puţin răguşită a lui Marius:

- Doamnă, vă rog să vă aşezaţi comod pe canapea şi să îmi spuneţi ce vedeţi dumneavoastră în momentul în care vă uitaţi în oglindă. Cum sunteţi dumneavoastră, cum este chipul dumneavoastră, ochii, nasul, buzele, părul…

Alma îl privi uimită, dar ştia că pictorul are ciudăţeniile lui. Roti ochii mari prin cameră şi se simţi apăsată de albul din ea şi de simplitatea acesteia. În afară de canapea, de scaunul pictorului, de şevaletul acestuia şi de o măsuţă pe care avea aşezate nuanţe fel de fel, într-o ordine aproape deranjantă, camera era goală.

- Doamnă, vă rog să vă descrieţi…menirea mea este să redau pe pânză aşa cum vă vedeţi dumneavoastră, nu cum vă văd eu.

Alma, o femeie în general foarte sigură pe ea, începu timid:

- Părul îmi cade în valuri pe umeri şi e atât de negru încât pământul întreg pare a-mi încadra chipul. Tenul îmi este alb…Alma se opri, atingându-şi faţa atinsă puţin de primele semne ale trecerii timpului.

- Continuaţi, vă rog…

Alma se ridică de pe canapea şi se îndreptă pe vârfuri înspre fereastră. Contemplă puţin frunzele ce se lăsau furate de vânt, după care îşi atinse buzele:

- Buzele mele nu au mai fost sărutate de ceva vreme, ceea ce le dă un aspect poate puţin cam aspru. Se uită la Marius şi îl observă cum degetele sale pluteau pe pânză, deşi privirea îi era în altă parte. Se aproprie de pictor, încet, fără a-şi face simţită prezenţa.  Ochii mei verzi, spuse ea şoptit, îmi aduc aminte de toate câmpiile pe care le văd în mijlocul verii.  Marius o reda pe pânză exact cum se vedea ea. Brusc, Luca îşi făcu apariţia, foarte agitat, spunându-i că şedinţa s-a terminat şi că este rugată să părăsească locuinţa. Femeia observă cum Marius îşi frecă mâinile şi cum se întoarce cu faţa înspre perete.

- La revedere, doamnă, sunt dezamăgit…

- A fost o scăpare, vă rog să mă scuzaţi…nu putem continua?

- La revedere, am spus!

Două zile mai târziu. Luca, având o cană de cafea în mână, îşi aruncă ochii pe ziarul din faţa sa. Rămase mut de uimire: „Portretistul care redă chipuri prin cuvinte. Portretistul Marius Vincente trăieşte într-o lume pe care puţini şi-ar fi putut-o imagina. Operele sale, adevărate capodopere redau exact chipurile oamenilor, într-o manieră deosebită, aşa cum se percep aceştia. Maestrul, care a început o nouă viaţă sub numele acesta – Marius Vicente, nu este altul decât David Terente, pictorul care şi-a pierdut soţia şi fiica într-un teribil accident de circulaţie în urmă cu cinci ani şi pe care toţi îl credeau mort. I-au murit doar ochii, dar lumina din spatele acestora continuă să strălucească, deşi o fac în întuneric. Marius Vicente, deşi nu poate vedea capodoperele create, nu se lăsă doborât de întuneric.” Articolul era semnat de o jurnalistă  al cărei nume era Alma Ştefănescu.

In the spirit of Halloween and skepticism, I shall be posting some things related to both in the days to come.  The first is a hilarious spoof of various “ghost hunter” shows by those wacky guys at South Park.

Despite the crudeness & vulgarity of their criticism, the South Park guys aren’t that far off the mark in pointing out the logical fallacy (basically, arguing from ignorance – a LOT of ignorance) committed by these lame-o doofuses who stumble around in the dark, scaring themselves for the cameras.  For a more detailed critique of “ghost hunters” and their pseudoscience, see my earlier blog post on the subject.
