It’s quick and speedy, but I still prefer applications that make use of space, or offer a proper interface.

I know that’s my prejudice and so I try my best to quell it when I suspect it is muddying the waters of perception.

And I do like the color schemes at work here. And it does offer a few interactive moments, such as you can see in the screenshot.

One small confession though: Occasionally I find tools like this to be actually more cumbersome than something with an interface.

Just as an example, I would probably rely on ctodo before devtodo, just because typing out long task descriptions and priorities at the bash prompt is not appealing to me.

I would much prefer to arrange things visually, and see things in organized layouts.

That might sound odd — particularly coming from me — but that’s how I like to do business.

Say so long to clutter and organize what you need in the car. Your PDA, cell phone, documents, e-mail and can be safely stowed in one of 8 roomy pockets – all within easy reach while driving. Best of all, this organizer easily swings around to the back to make room for a passenger.

It’s almost the end of the school and i’m not sure about you, but i’m feeling the stress of exams and finishing all my college work before summer! 1. Get Organized

This is a BIG challenge for me when i first started applying for college and figuring out how i was going to balance my time with homework and doing theatre related projects. But i did it, and you can to! Calendars are my best friends. I suggest investing in two. One for your room that you can see everyday and one that you carry with you everywhere and anywhere (hey,  you never know what might come up!). I suggest when an event comes up or you have homework that is assigned, write it down as soon as possible. Seriously, it will pay off. I also use my computer’s Reminder’s Application to keep a list of papers that are due or if i have an exam. You may want to use this when there are due dates for forms or paperwork.

Life is so hectic with an etsy shop, growing photography business, and a never ending need to do something “crafty” that this gem has come in handy.

Anyway, since I am an aspiring cook, I figured I would write this post on organizing recipes in hopes of becoming a better chef myself.

I have decided that most people either keep their recipes online, tear them out of magazines (or print out online recipes), or some people may even still use cookbooks!  Whatever way(s) you like to keep your recipes organized, I hope that some of these tips can help you!

BINDERS: If you like to clip recipes from magazines or print recipes out online, a good binder (or 3 like me) is the way to go!  Get those clear plastic sleeves and organize all of your recipes in a binder and categorize accordingly.

COOKBOOKS - If you are a cookbook person, stick the small post-it stickies on the pages you use most often and write the name of the recipe on the sticky note. This makes glancing at cookbooks and finding your favorite recipes so much easier and faster.

Once your friends are on FP you can begin to make your life easier. I nabbed this piece of cabinet door or something from an estate sale because I thought it would make the perfect jewelry display! I never wear earrings anymore, since having a kid, but also because they’re hidden away in drawers. So I finally painted this piece, front and back, and I remembered to use spray primer on he front, before spray painting the whole thing in “almond.” I actually used two different brands because that’s what I had in the garage. This was my project while my Honey built himself a workbench. It was a very crafty weekend, at least during nap times. After painting and letting each side dry, I lightly sanded with a 60 for some rough edges and corners, then with a 320 for a nice smooth surface all over. We mounted a claw mounter on the back for hanging. To cover my hole, even though it just added to the “vintage” feel, I simply clipped on a flower hair piece.
When I hung it inside, I later went trough all my earrings: I got rid of 20 pairs with around 40 left…now maybe ill actually give them some use!

I’m a messy sewer and I was looking for a way to tidy up my sewing space. I adore the fabrics I used for my reversible bag, (my previous post) so much so, I was tempted not to use any more, and store it “safely” away for that “right project”.

What better than to use it for something you use all the time, something that will make your sewing space pretty… and tidy?

A DDoS attack is where massive volumes of data are sent to a web server – far more than it can handle – in an attempt to push it off the internet.

In this case, over 300 Gigabytes per second were launched at Spamhaus to clog it up and force its shutdown.

The National Police in Barcelona, spokeswoman, María Buyo, said that investigations started in the Netherlands when a cyber-attack on the anti-spam site was detected due to huge attempts to access it and that the UK and USA had also been affected.

As Spamhaus tried to regain control of its servers, this created a huge slowdown of internet traffic around the world.

Kamphuis, is said to be the manager of the outfit Cyber-bunker and organizer of the group Spamhaus, and to have travelled all over Spain in a van with various antennae to enable him to stage his attacks without trace.

He apparently took exception to the fact that Spamhaus blocked a number of servers hosted by Cyber-bunker, a company that claims it will host “anything except child porn or terrorism sites”.

Spamhaus holds lists of blocked senders used by companies to detect the origins of spam to prevent them from jamming mail servers and filling up email boxes.

Typical examples of spam filtered out by Spamhaus include the pharmaceutical companies, Viagra adverts and dating sites which mail-users tend to find in their junk boxes.

IT equipment, hard drives, computer software and mobile telephones were seized during a raid on Kamphuis’ flat in Granollers.

The accused is expected to be extradited to the Netherlands.

Barcelona’s National Police have thanked Dutch, British and US authorities for their “excellent coordination” which led to the case being resolved.

1. absvolume seems to have a problem similar to some other audio players or tools I’ve found: It can’t seem to switch to the /dev/snd device. I can build it, but like some others, using /dev/snd spawns errors. I blame this on the forward march of supporting software. Linux evolved, absvolume, apparently, did not.
2. I’ve seen aumix in action before, but for whatever reason (probably the same as what plagues absvolume), it won’t run for me either in Arch or Debian-based systems.
3. Second that for rexima; I know I have seen it work, but it refuses now. Somehow I get nothing when trying to direct these programs to /dev/snd.
4. ddconsole, as I understand it, is a cli-based frontend to DownloadDaemon. The latter wouldn’t build for me, and I don’t see it in other distros, so it might not be completely functional.
5. Likewise, DiggerDwarf refused to build for me, but if it’s a gopher network client I probably don’t have much use for it anyway.
6. AUR mentions demorse, which won’t build for me. Debian has an xdemorse, which is probably related. One won’t build, the other requires graphical libraries that I don’t want to install. Forgive me.
7. I tracked down kedpm, a console password manager, and managed to build it, but got nothing but python errors from it. Considering the latest release is nearly 10 years old, that really shouldn’t surprise me. No disrespect intended, but Python applications don’t seem to age well.
8. Out of curiosity I installed pads, the Passive Asset Detection System. No, I don’t suffer from delusions of network technician grandeur; I was just interested. As luck would have it, it segfaulted constantly on two different machines, so my career as an IT manager is once again in a state of hibernation.
9. playmidi would build, but wouldn’t run, and didn’t play any midi files. No sound device errors this time, just cryptic notes about file inaccessibility.
10. I could swear I’ve seen workbone running, but no luck this time. I found a modified source file, but it wouldn’t compile and the only prebuilt binaries I could find just end without any real action aside from a crude screen display.

As always, it’s possible that these things do work, and just didn’t work for me, or I couldn’t configure them quite right.

If you have better luck than me, please share your secret. Nobody wants to cry over abandoned software.
