Mysteries of Two Paper Planes

Two folded papers, two sheets of a Grade – 1 pad turned into paper planes. They are simple things but they made priceless stories that worth to treasure. Truly, paper planes are simple objects but they worth lot for a person who once toyed with them during childhood. Toying with these little things means letting oneself go carefree. A personal experience, I once made two paper planes, each made a single flight but with different fate. Their flight made mysterious interpretations that remained unveiled within fourteen (14) years.

When our class dismissed on the cold afternoon, Monday of January 24, 1994, I made a paper plane just before I left the room. When I reached outside, I launched the paper plane for its maiden flight. It soared smoothly and gently landed on the ground. Unluckily, an envied classmate, Reymard, took it quickly and sped away. Oh! my paper plane it’s captured! I have to save it so ran after Reymard in hope I can get it back. The chase started from school going to plaza until we reached Reymard’s home, which is a kilometer away, and it’s in the next by Barangay.

Realizing that the rescue doomed to be futile, I started to walk homeward…it was drizzling and cold! While walking, I felt a strange thing inside me…I was bothered for unknown reason. People on the way were looking at me sadly, none of them smiled but they murmured. I heard few words that puzzled me, “here comes the son…”

I know that on the dawn of the same day (Jan 24), my mother was hospitalized but I wasn’t aware of her condition during the whole day because I was at school.

As I drew nearer at home, things grew more and more strange. I was uneasy to see many people now walking with me on the same direction…we’re all walking towards in our house. Few meters away from our gate, my instinct seems cleared…something was wrong. There were people coming in carrying bunch of flowers tied with ribbons with written “Condolence.”

Soon as I reached the gate, my father met and quickly hugged me and said, “Your mama is gone.” Really, she’s gone because when I entered in the house, I saw her lifeless, laid in a coffin.

Several days after the tragedy, I returned to school. Again, I made another paper plane during the windy recess time. This paper plane is better than the first one and it’s the best paper plane I knew in the history. I launched it in our playground. It was awesome; it swiftly soared until the strong wind took command on its flight. The winds maneuvered it.

From the playground site, the paper plane’s flight went further and further…it was drifted away until it reached the nearby forest, then the nearby hill and furthermore. Ten minutes later, were still tailing the paper plane just to witness its awesome flight. We crossed the meadow, forest and hills just not to miss watching it until we reached the fenced cemetery. Later, the paper plane finally landed at the perimeter of the cemetery…it’s a kilometer away from school!

After those incidents, the mysterious message remained unknown for fourteen years. Just last year, 2008, I realized that the paper planes’ flight cradled lessons long unveiled. The lesson to value good things whether they’re small or big things in life. And when time trials come, learn to struggle. Don’t be afraid to fail because success means not by never failing, success means rising from every failure. First failure doesn’t mean it’s enough but try again. Short flight of the paper plane means a challenge to struggle to achieve a longer flight…a flight towards prosperity in life. Another lesson is that in order to achieve personal tranquility, learn to let go when necessary. A paper plane can’t make a good flight if it is kept handled by the hand, you have to release it! Move on!

You might think that this is the most boring book ever.

I was in the SU bar when a music video came onto the TV, it was really cool and all made out of paper and using stop motion. This isn’t that video! Because the music wasn’t on I have no idea what song it was and I missed the beginning of the video so I couldn’t read who it was by/what it was called. I had a look online to see if I could find it – I couldn’t, I did find this video though and thought it was equally cool looking. No idea what the music is like but I love how the video looks enough not to care!

Busy for the Holidays

Well I cannot believe that Halloween has come and gone, and I am left preparing for Thanksgiving! My real life responsibilities have taken over full-throttle so my time to fold has been severely reduced. However I have a plan to make it through this season saving money and saving my sanity. What is this you may ask? Origami ornaments as decorations and gifts. Patti commented on a previous blog post that she has the same idea this holiday season as one way to conserve some much-needed cash.

So using the same model that I usually do (10 and 18 mette rings), I have gone into full holiday swing! I bought some great red wire for the project and I have been having a blast making gifts for my family. This one is made from chiyogami, but I have also been experimenting with foil and tissue paper as well. The result is surprising nice! If you work with 2″ square pieces of paper, the result fits nicely into a small organza bag. They are just big enough to be used as a tree ornament and just small enough to wear.

But don’t let this limit your imagination! These can be done with various materials… Even paper cranes made out of wrapping paper look particularly pretty for the holidays. What can be better than a dose of handmade to celebrate!

Afim de ampliar ainda mais nossas experiências sobre a cultura japonesa, o 1º ano da tarde recebeu no começo de novembro a visita da Daisy, uma conhecida do aluno Enzo, que nos contou sobre a vinda dos seus avós japoneses para o Brasil. Ela trouxe também alguns objetos, que os japoneses consideram trazer sorte para quem os possui. Por último falou sobre origami e fez com o grupo o Tsuru, o pássaro da sorte japonês.

O grupo adorou a visita!

my first suck uk crush came via the wood clock. i couldn’t rationalize the price tag so i bought some $25 *less-than* version, which flashes time + date with no option to sit still. the cheap knock off left me pretty unsatisfied.

No one would be surprised that I am still so much into modular folding, or origami in general, but this time it’s somehow a little different. It’s still modular, it’s still from the same notepad, but it’s no longer designed by Fuse Tomoko. The designs are from Miyuki Kawamura’s book Polyhedron Origami For Beginners. Both models differ from the ones I finished previously in different ways. The yellow one is a “skeleton” model, which gives better view of the edges and the center. As for the other one, it consists two different types of modules. Modular folding mania continues~

Un avión de papel es un avión de juguete hecho enteramente de papel. Es, quizá, la forma más común de aerogami, una rama del origami (el arte japonés del doblado del papel). En Japón se conoce como 紙飛行機 (kami hikōki; kami=papel, hikōki=avión).

Su popularidad es debida principalmente a que es uno de los origamis más fáciles de hacer, ya sea para un novato como para un experto. El avión de papel más básico sólo necesita seis pasos para completarse "correctamente". El término "avión de papel" en la actualidad se refiere también a aquellos hechos de cartón corrugado.

Ha habido muchos intentos de romper la barrera de lanzar un avión de papel que permanezca suspendido en el aire el mayor tiempo posible. Ken Blackburn mantuvo el récord mundial durante 13 años (1983–1996) y lo revalidó el 8 de octubre de 1998 consiguiendo que el avión volara durante 27,6 s. (en interior). El avión que utilizó Blackburn fue un avión de papel que puede ser considerado perteneciente a la categoría de ultraligeros.
