Hey gang!

I just returned from a lovely, restful, much needed vacation and I am ready to rock the 2012 wedding season.  It’s amazing what a little relaxation will do for you when you’re fast approaching burn out!  I am so excited to work with so many wonderful clients, create so many beautiful spaces and get my craft on!

In other awesome news…I have moved to a new studio and I am beyond excited!  Things are slowly coming together and I can’t wait to share all the DIY projects and fun finds around here.

I have a SERIOUS problem. Every time I see an old, GOLD, ornate frame, I want it soo bad. Is that okay? Because there are four in my bedroom alone. I just love the look of an intricate gold frame against a white wall. LIKE, LOVE IT. I just hung one next to my bed. SEE DOWN BELOW! I know what you’re thinking. I really do. You’re thinking Bri Bri is an 80 year old woman TRAPPED in a little flaming homosexuals body, and you’re right. I AM, and I don’t care. BAHA

This last picture I did not take, but it is just so lovely. I found it on a random blog a while back and every once in a while I do a double click and admire it. I thought I would share it with you. Doesn’t it just make you want to have some pretty flowers on your desk or nightstand? Thought so.

I just had a wonderful neighbor make my week with his newest investment.

I have helped him with his collection of Poe art with my recently created “Ode to Edgar” illustration for his 1/2 sleeve.

Check out his progress in this video!  There are a bunch of talented artists he is working with and I cant wait to see more.

Is there a bigger compliment then having one of your pieces  permanent on somones skin? For me, a tattoo lover, no.

After doing a little mash up on photoshop, I noticed that It’ll be hard to make a wall of frames that is balanced due to the height and location of the window. I’m nowhere near being experienced enough in designing a composition of frames this large of scale that is perfect for the wall space without actually putting them up. And I really want to minimize nailing the walls since I already have about a dozen or so holes around the room because of this. Instead, I thought of hanging a large frame (since there’s already a nail up there) to maybe help balance things out. Maybe something like this:

That seems to look slightly better, no? The frame is from Ikea and its called the UNG DRILL frame, you could find the link here! But even so, the wall seems pretty bare and flat. Does anybody know a great DIY for a fabric wall feature that could be incorporated with this frame (draping of some sort or anything chic)? If so, it’ll be of great help!

It’s 3 weeks into the new exercise regime and I think I might be adding more flab than intended. So, I thought it’s about time I started counting calories and my lovely friend directed me to this website. She’s using it as an app on her Iphone, since I have yet to grant myself and Iphone upgrade, I’d have to do it on the PC instead on this website.

No wonder I’m not getting the results, I’ve just been not exercising enough to burn off those extra calories that I consume daily (It’s best that i consume only 1210 calories per day to lose 1 pound/week). It’s a great tool but I’ve only been at it for an hour, but it recommends a whole lot of things. If you’re on a potentially-no-cheese-and-potato-for-2-months-bet too, I’d recommend you committing to this app and you get to invite your friends so that you can do the diet and exercise regime together while keeping track of each other! the table and the mirror

I had 2 new things coming in for my room today, the first would be the Micke table (from Ikea) and the mirror that I ordered. Yeay!

Since I’ve searched high and low for the right table that was at a reasonable price and that table happens to fit perfectly in that nook. Regardless of what people say, size does matter. Lol. It does in this matter because that nook happens to not have any timber skirting on it due to the fact that there used to be a built in table in there, but I took it out a few years back since it was in a pretty bad shape. So where carpet meets wall = ugh ugly disaster! You can see bits of the old paint peeping out in the picture above, that annoys me, but I’m looking to put in a stool/ bench/ chair/ ottoman in there to completely take your eyes off it. And since the table is designed for a PC desk, the cabinet underneath it doesn’t have a backing which makes it great to conceal wiring for my hair irons and blow dryer (which is a HUGE plus).

The mirror turned out great, according to the shop owners, they never made that particular frame in white (usually in silver or gold) but I requested for them to paint it white and they added the silver accents. All in all, I’m happy with the result and it definitely was value for money coming in at Rm 165 for a 3′ x 4′ custom painted frame with a 3mm mirror secured in place.

So now I’m thinking of how to actually compose this into a cozy vanity area because now it looks a little too stark for my taste and anyways (I’m no modernist), I like a little clutter. I’ll come up with something eventually and I’ll share it here (duh!)

Dusky whites

It appears that dusky colors are in season now, and I’m in love with it. So the first thing to do is to paint my room! I chose the dusky pink-gray since i’m keeping my olive carpet, it seems to be a pretty neutral color and with white trimmings and furniture I bet the color would just POP. To tell you the truth, I’m a little bit intimidated by color and these shades of neutrals that has a little bit more extra color in them suits me well. The plan is to keep the colors to a minimum but with added details through ornamentation with ornate frames and glassware. Intricate details are the key to the look for the bedroom. Below is a listing of all the stuff that i put together above, most of them are from Ikea since thats the only site in the country that has an online catalogue. The challenge now is to find similar items but for a fraction of the price, oh I didn’t tell you? I’m on a budget since I only have a little money allocated monthly for the whole makeover. So the whole look would take a LONG time to be completed. Well, a little goes a long way right?

The Former Frame

Don’t you just love road-side bounty?  I found a discarded picture with moulded ornate frame and quelle tragique faded print by the road the other day, and decided it needed a new home.  I discarded the print then spray painted the frame with abandon, replacing 0h-so-faux gold with benign and self-effacing cream.

When dry I plonked it on a spare nail to frame a rotating gallery of works on paper by young and upcoming artists:  It’s a pop-up gallery of kiddy masterpieces – the kind that only a mother could love but with added the gravitas of a frame.
