Abstract:

This paper discusses the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM) which is a tool that supports goal setting and the assessment of change with an individual participating in daily activity. The purpose of the paper is to examine the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure as a potential tool for use in psychiatric rehabilitation and recovery-oriented services. The paper considers the theoretical orientation of the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure and describes the instrument’s structure and properties. In addition, there is a delineation of the instrument’s utility in mental health and an examination of its relationship to psychiatric rehabilitation and recovery principles. The paper uses existing research on the instrument, examines psychosocial rehabilitation literature, and reflects on consultation with local and international researchers/practitioners. The Canadian Occupational Performance Measure is designed to foster partnership between clients and practitioners and it encourages identification of occupationally-focused issues and goals. This instrument promotes an agenda of participation, resumption of life roles, and inclusion in environments of choice.

INONMENSURABLE

We’ve been swamped with year end work of late thus my complete absence from the Slabbed cyber-scene. Thanksgiving offered no break as, like Nowdy, I’m the main Thanksgiving cook at casa Sop. My first attempt at a cane syrup pecan pie was a flop. Today I get to clear 2 weeks worth of non critical s-mail from my desk and hopefully reply to almost 2 weeks worth of emails.

Tim Isbell/Sun Herald

One thing I’ve managed to do though is continue to follow St Stanislaus’ trip through the class 4A south state playoffs as the Rock’s QB Dylan Favre and his talented group of wide receivers have dismantled all comers, whether it was blitzing Columbia defense or the “cover 2″ played by Forrest County AHS. Tonight Greene County is on tap as the coast’s 3 South State Championship contenders were featured on the front page of today’s Sun Herald. James Jones takes it from there:

The Rockachaws (12-1) entertain Greene County tonight at Brother Phillip Memorial Stadium. A victory would put St. Stanislaus in the 4A title game for the first time in school history………

The Rockachaws get a rematch with Greene County. The Rockachaws rolled past Greene County 42-21 in a Region 8-4A game last month in Leakesville.

Quarterback Dylan Favre will become the state’s first 5,000-yard passer, barring injury. He has compiled 4,829 yards passing while throwing for 56 touchdowns. He’s also rushed for 1,142 yards and 15 more scores.

Wide receiver Krisjon Wilkerson has 95 receptions for 1,845 yards and 22 TDs. Boomer Scarborough, the Rocks’ blue-collar guy over the middle, has 64 receptions for 1,065 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Kollin Cannon could join Wilkerson and Scarborough in the 1000-yard receiving club. He has 53 receptions for 809 yards and seven touchdowns.

“We’ve got our work cut out for us,’’ SSC coach Forrest Williams said. “It’s hard to beat a team twice in the same season. Greene County’s a different team since we last played them, but we’re playing well right now.”

Itawamba AHS and Lafayette County meet in the 4A North state finals tonight.

Nowdy me and the boy are hoping to roll into Jackson on the 5th to catch the title game.

You type in your text or send Shapeways a link to a logo and they’ll model and 3D print a mini branding iron for you. The branding iron clicks onto standard disposable lighters. You simply turn the lighter on for 30 seconds until the branding iron is hot and then brand away. A text branding iron costs $25 including shipping. A logo BrandingIron costs $25, also including shipping. The branding irons work well on many surfaces such as wood and Shapeways is currently looking at testing out skin but have not been able to find a volunteer with nice enough arms.

As it is with most other things in life travel therapy is evolving on a daily basis. It is more important than ever for traveling physical therapists, traveling occupational therapists, and traveling speech language pathologists to diversify their skills sets to keep up with the ever-changing therapy environment. You may ask what is this guy talking about???

When you look at travel therapy as a whole you can easily see that the number of options that one has available to them is incredible. From working as a traveling physical therapist within a government facility taking care of our veterans to working with a home health company it is important to stretch your comfort zone and learn new skills and settings.

I’d like to challenge traveling therapists to take a chance on a different setting. Luckily as a traveling therapist you have the luxury to only commit to one position for 3 months at a time. I think that many people forget that and take it for granted. I am speaking for millions when I say that I wish I had that luxury. Take a look at positions with schools, VA Medical Centers, home health companies, outpatient clinics, skilled nursing, etc….. Many therapists pick one setting right out of school and that is what they spend the rest of their careers doing. As the landscape of America’s healthcare system changes it will be very important to have the versatility to change with the market.

I’m writing a complaint letter to Wachovia. I will have no more of this “play of the gam

I’m writing a complaint letter to Wachovia. I will have no more of this “play of the game” decided with two minutes left when the game is still in the process of being blown. Plus, the play of the game was not the Boss TD that was played on the jumbotron, it was the coin toss that gave the Giants the ball first in OT.

An ugly win is still a win, but that eyesore can damage the retinas. Anyone who watched the entire Week 11 game knows that their eyes do not deceive them, the Giants looked like a mistake-prone team with a soft defense that can’t protect a lead.

But thanks to the struggling Atlanta Falcons who also did not want to play well, the New York football Giants finally got their first win in six weeks.

Eli made two mistakes early. He fumbled and threw an interception in the first drive.

But the errors for Manning ended there. The offense pulled it together nicely. Tight End Kevin Boss had a great day, averaging over 15-yards per play with 2TD catches.

But he wasn’t the only man open. Eli passed the ball around on a day where Plaxico Burress was not missed. Retired team leader Michael Strahan and former Defensive Coordinator Steve Spagnuolo were the pieces of the Superbowl 42 championship team that fans longed for as the once tough defense that would certainly be able to protect a two-touchdown lead in the 4th quarter.

As well as the offense got it together, there were still field goals attempts from the Red Zone where touchdowns should be occurring.

Why does Heinz sponsor the Red Zone at Giants Stadium? There is no other ketchup, really. Heinz dominates the popular condiment and is the largest provider. I think that the someone else should jump on the sponsorship opportunity there. Perhaps it could be the Big Red “Chew It Out” Zone, the N.R.A. “Out for Blood” Zone, or the Red Roof “Get it Inn” Zone.

One Giants Red Zone visit stalled at 13-yd line where kicker Lawrence Tynes proceeded to miss a 31-yd field goal attempt. As unacceptable as this is, Jason Elam of the Falcons was drinking from the same fountain and missed a 35-yd attempt three drives later. Those botched “gimme” field goals canceled each other out, but that, like winning the coin toss for possession in overtime, was lucky.

The Giants have little time to thank their lucky coin. In a short “week” of four days, Big Blue will be in Denver for a game of two teams that have reeled.

TGIF!!!

I was doing some research this morning to get more in tune with what the national opinion is on Allied Travel Trends. I came across an interesting article from healthcaretraveler.com that goes into further depth on the issues and concerns that are shaping the future of 6 allied health disciplines. I think it is fascinating what they have to say about physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech language pathologists. So if you are in the field and curious what others are saying about your field of work, or if you are thinking about starting a career in Allied Health, you need to check out this article by Olivia J. Abel:

I picked up this information from another recruiter, but it is important, so I thought I’d post it here (but all credit goes to Dawn Pugh). Here’s a link to her post, but the story is posted below.

http://www.dawnpugh.com/2009/11/16/car-scam-the-warning/

Car Scam: The Warning!!!

You may have already received a warning letter or email notification regarding this diabolical car scam. Please be vigilant and be aware of the dangers involved.

Warnings..!!!!

Just last weekend on Friday night we parked in a public
car park. As we drove away I noticed a sticker on the
rear window of the car. When I took it off (after I got home),
it was a receipt for petrol. Luckily my friend had told me not to
stop, as it could be someone waiting for me to get out of the
car. Then we received this email yesterday.

Source: Anonomous.

THE WARNING FROM POLICE
THIS APPLIES TO BOTH WOMEN AND MEN
BEWARE OF PAPER ON THE BACK WINDOW OF YOUR VEHICLE.
NEW WAY TO DO CAR-JACKINGS, AND CAR SCAM (NOT A JOKE).

Heads up everyone! Please keep this circulating. You walk
across the car park, unlock your car and get inside. You
start the engine and put it into Reverse.

When you look into the rear-view mirror to back out of your
space, you notice a piece of paper stuck to the middle
of the rear screen. So you stop, and jump out of your car to remove that paper (or whatever it is), because it is obstructing your view.
Then when you reach the back of your car, is when the car-jackers appear out of nowhere.
They jump in and take off. They practically run you over as they speed off.

And guess what, ladies? I bet your purse is still in the car.
So now the car-jacker has your car, your home address, your
money, and your keys. Your home and your whole identity are compromised!

BEWARE OF THIS NEW SCHEME THAT IS NOW BEING USED.

If you see a piece of paper stuck to the back window, lock your doors and just drive away.
Remove the paper later. And be thankful that you
read this e-mail. I hope you will forward this to friends and
family, especially to women.
A purse contains all kinds of personal information and identification documents, and you certainly do NOT want this to fall into the wrong hands.

Please tell all your friends.

(Thanks again to Dawn Pugh)

Happy Travels!

“(There was none who sold himself to do what was evil in the sight of the LORD like Ahab, whom Jezebel his wife incited. He acted very abominably in going after idols, as the Amorites had done, whom the LORD cast out before the people of Israel.)
And when Ahab heard those words, he tore his clothes and put sackcloth on his flesh and fasted and lay in sackcloth and went about dejectedly. And the word of the LORD came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying, “Have you seen how Ahab has humbled himself before me? Because he has humbled himself before me, I will not bring the disaster in his days; but in his son’s days I will bring the disaster upon his house.””
(1 Kings 21.25–29 ESV)

Is there any greater juxtaposition of man’s evil and God’s mercy? “There was none who sold himself to do what was evil in the sight of the Lord” is followed by “Because he has humbled himself before me, I will not bring the disaster in his days…” Unbelievable. More unbelievable, perhaps, is my heart crying out for this man’s punishment and my incredulity at his being spared – completely overlooking the mercy that is shown to me on an hourly basis…
