It seems like I have a tendency lately to forget important dates, even those of the things I care about most. November 20, 2009 came and went, though drawing something after having not done so in a while might have been an adequate way of marking the second anniversary of Ogiue Maniax. Still it’s no Genshiken Review, and I think I should celebrate two years of writing and analyzing and making terrible puns with some panache. Seeing as how tomorrow is Stuff Your Face with Food All Day… Day… I’ll save the Thank You’s for the next post. Instead, I’ll talk about how I’ve felt the blog has changed and changed me since I began working on it.

It was over two years ago that I began to realize that I enjoyed writing, and not just any writing but the kind that is meant to inform and enlighten and to encourage others to think. I was given opportunities on both Heisei Democracy and Towards Our Memories to write a little, and from there I decided to just dive in and start my own blog. I named it after the Genshiken character Ogiue Chika, who I believe to be the most deeply complex, emotionally moving, and overall amazing character to ever appear. I intended to use the blog to record my thoughts on the mediums that I love, even if it was just a brief inkling, and to help not only others to learn but myself as well.

Being able to accurately convey my thoughts while also challenging myself to think beyond my own point of view gave me a new and different sense of confidence that what I’d experienced previously, especially when I began to see others respond, and to weigh in with their own words. This in turn would motivate my desire to write even more, and before I knew it, I had improved as both a writer and as an anime fan.

And to you my readers, though I said I would not give thanks, I have to make an exception here. Thank you for respecting my words as much as I respect yours. The comment philosophy at Ogiue Maniax is to allow all comments as long as they are relevant, as it encourages everyone to engage in dialogue and to better understand each other. And if you’re a troll you’re all the more welcome, as it gives me the opportunity to further clarify my points. At that point, it’s up to every individual reader to decide if they agree with me or not.

There will be an obligatory AFA review blog post, but it will have to wait till I have time, and have the mood to sort through the pile of pictures that were taken. Till then, I’ll just keep posting random pics. ^^

The highly awaited Higashi no Eden movie , or Eden of the East, have been reworked, with the result that the second movie of the pair, originally scheduled for January 9th, will now be delayed to March. But there’s will extension in length of the both movies.

Here’s some Tony Taka, T2, Service^^ He one of my favourite  artist of all time. His art is heaven >.< one look at it makes me wanna cry out loud and say OMG. If I ever have a chance to hire an artist, he will be first on my list. xD

Biography:

Upon graduating from art design college, he first began working on advertisement designs, but in 1998 subsequently changed careers to become a manga/anime style artist. Soon after, he began illustrating for numerous eroge and designing its characters, thus quickly gaining himself renown and popularity. Apart from his illustration work, which has since encompassed designing general games such as the recent iterations of Sega’s popular Shining roleplaying game series, he is also executive director of his own company, RPM Y.K.

Japanese popular culture websites have been buzzing this past week-end. AFA 2009 got going in Singapore seems to have been pretty big.

I have been following Danny Choo around the convention through his blog and now i am pretty sure that i will attend next year’s AFA event.

Thinking about making an interview-like visit to the AFA so some publishing house would actually cover some of the expenses.

Often use local online retailer Archonia for many of my anime related purchases, have always been quite pleased with their excellent service.

Especially like that their pre-order system allows you to keep some of your items that have been released on hold and combine multiple releases into a single shipment.

Just received the “Aria” volume 5 and “Negima!” volume 24 manga, as well as the “Code Geass: Lelouch Of The Rebellion R2” volume 2 and “Evangelion 1.01 You are (not) Alone” DVD’s.
Haven’t seen “Evangelion 1.01 You are (not) Alone” yet but heard good things about it, quite curious to see what this rebuild of such a classic is like!

Also picked up my first nendoroid, Yoko from “Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann”. Am often told how cute these nendoroids are so thought to get one, especially having seen what great photo subjects they can make.

So, many people in the anime world who live in the New England area have heard of it but few take advantage of it. Cheaper than Anime Boston, with much MUCH shorter lines, AAC is definitely worth the trip and the money.

Cosplayers came out en masse to enjoy the party, showing off old costumes or debuting new ones before larger cons like Otakon, Portcon and Anime Boston, others just milling around with cat ears and taking pictures. Either way, it was a fun time for all and a time to meet many new people!

I lost the game (by the way, you just lost the game) and got Rick Rolled more times than I can count, just in the two days I was there. Registration was a breeze and I was out and about in minutes. The panels I did go to were well done and the lines for VA autographs, which at Anime Boston you could spend HOURS in, went really fast. If I was in line for more than 10 minutes it was because some otaku couldn’t help but ooze fangirl for a little too long.

There were some organizational problems with the Con hosted operations, such as the Dating Game (18+ Yaoi, Yuri and Regular) and the Anime Idol and Masquerade. The Yaoi/Yuri Dating Game started late because of technical and setup issues and was horribly handled. Every time the contestants attempted to answer a question they were often interrupted by the hosts for several minutes, requiring repetition of the question. Mind you, the interruptions were funny, but it made the Dating Game run past schedule and made it difficult for the contestants. Not to mention the Bachelor and Bachelorette were not informed they were asking individuals questions of the SAME gender, causing some minor discomfort.

Suggestion for next year, AAC? LATER DEALER’S ROOM HOURS! So a certain Otaku who was waiting until the end of the day to stock up on ramune before she left doesn’t get there to discover she was too late and has to wait until next year.

p.s. Yaoi fanservice for the win!

Well I’m an otaku, I’ve been one for years. Besides it being extremely fun, it helps me cope with shit since I’m a little bitch. I’ll either talk about my life or otaku related shit, the latter being the more prominent topic of the two.

Here are some pictures of Mr. Mamoru Hosoda’s upcoming movie, Summer Wars, Booth at the AFA09. I also added some pictures of my lucky loot^^

After attending Mr. Mamoru Hosoda’s Summer Wars Q & A Session, I went out to the AFA Booth to grab a copy of the movie book and was lucky enough to get my hands on the last copy at 12.12pm. Then the lady at the booth told me to rush to booth A07 for Mr. Mamoru Hosoda’s autograph session which will start at 12.15pm and only the first 15 fans will get it.

I rush there as quickly as I could and started queuing at 12.16pm. And guess what, I manage to be the 15th fan to get his autograph xD Later I got a little chat with him in person. Of course, with the help of his translator as my Japanese is still a long way to understand what Mr. Mamoru Hosoda was saying but I can understand a little though^^ I also got to take a photo with him^^ (Not showing xP)

Can’t wait to watch his upcoming movie. I really hope it will be aired in Singapore >.<
