The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office says the fire has been burning about 5 miles north of Wellington between County Road 9 and Vesta Lane.

As of 4 p.m. it was reported to be 90 percent contained. The cause is still under investigation but appears to be human caused, according to the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office.

Emergency calls were made to residents in the area but no evacuations were needed.

“It was a nice calm morning and we were out on the horse and on the four-wheelers and then we went in because the wind started to pick up,” homeowner Christi Bennett said. “I was in the shower and my husband said there was a fire and we need to go.”

One shed was damaged but no other structures were threatened.

The area is sparsely populated with a lot of ranches and farmland. No injuries have been reported.
