La diversità è ricchezza per tutti. Se ne sono accorti gli operatori del turismo che a un segmento di nicchia come quello degli omosessuali hanno dedicato lo stand più grande del Salone internazionale del turismo che si tiene in questi giorni a Barcellona. Sotto lo stesso tetto sono confluiti oltre 50 espositori di tutto il mondo che per il target dei gay hanno preparato pacchetti viaggio su misura. Le potenzialità di incassi non mancano. Stando alle stime, i viaggi dedicati a omosessuali e lesbiche raccolgono circa il 7% dell’intero giro d’affari generato dall’industria del turismo. E la tendenza è in crescita soprattutto in un Paese come l’Italia in cui tra mille tabù e reticenze la categoria dei gay si sta affacciando soltanto ora con più decisione al mondo dei consumi.

E con una libertà di spesa maggiore rispetto a quella delle famiglie tradizionali. «In più in Italia questo elemento è anche amplificato perché circa la metà dei 5 milioni di omosessuali nostrani vive ancora in famiglia e dunque ha un reddito residuo che in proporzione è ancora più alto rispetto alle medie europee», spiega Alessio De Giorgi amministratore delegato del sito Gay.it.

Nato nel 1997 come punto di incontro in rete per la comunità omosessuale nel 2007, ha fattura poco meno di un milione di euro. Tra le prime iniziative che ha sviluppato c’è proprio il portale dedicato ai viaggi Out Travel. La più grande agenzia di viaggi gay online in Italia ogni anno manda in vacanza circa 3mila persone con un fatturato che arriva a 1,5 milioni di euro. Intorno a questa realtà è sorto poi tutto un universo fatto di guide ed eventi dedicati a questo universo.

Ma non soltanto i viaggi fanno guadagnare. Stando ai dati forniti dagli addetti ai lavori il giro d’affari generato nel nostro Paese da questa comunità si muove tra i 100 e i 150 milioni di euro l’anno. Una grossa fetta della torta la incassa il mondo della moda e quello dell’intrattenimento. Anche l’Arcigay, con la rete di locali, bar, saune, discoteche, genera una buona parte delle entrate. «Basti pensare che le persone che frequentano tutti i locali dell’area in tutta Italia sono ogni anno due milioni con una spesa media di 15-20 euro a testa», dice il presidente dell’ArciGay, Aurelio Mancuso. E poi c’è il settore della comunicazione con le molte riviste dedicate a questo universo da Babilonia a Clubing fino a Pride. In tutto distribuiscono 50 mila copie al mese.

Le potenzialità del fenomeno sono sotto gli occhi di tutti. Sulle televisioni nazionali passano spot con situazioni ironiche o trasgressive, sul mondo gay: dal giovane smilzo che diventa un nerboruto ballerino (gomme da masticare Vigorsol), al baciatore misterioso (liquore Bailey´s). I media dedicati al pubblico omosessuale, dal sito Internet Gay.it alla televisione satellitare Gay.Tv, dopo la prima fase di sperimentazione hanno fatto il grande salto, cercando nuova pubblicità di grandi aziende sull´esempio dei primi apripista, fra i quali ci sono stati la Renault e i telefonini Sony Ericsson. Le potenzialità sono state scoperte anche dai grandi gruppi della telefonia mobile: «Siamo stati partner dell’evento romano Gay Village per due anni. Il target gay è per noi un target caratterizzato da un’elevata propensione ai consumi comunicativi e all’innovazione tecnologica. Si tratta di una nicchia che in Italia deve ancora emergere del tutto e quindi le potenzialità sono alte», dice Stefano Piastrelli, direttore comunicazione e advertising del gruppo telefonico 3 Italia.

E l’economia omosessuale ha anche un indotto. Le varie dinamiche sono state studiate anche dal mondo dell’Università: «L’apertura verso il mondo gay può avere numerosi effetti postivi sull’economia e sullo sviluppo di una regione e di un paese, sia diretti che indiretti. Per effetti indiretti si intende l’impatto sul clima di apertura mentale e culturale e che stimola l’incontro tra idee diverse e processi innovativi. Gli effetti indiretti consistono invece in tutto quello che riguarda i consumi, il turismo e industrie collegate», dice Irene Tinaglia, ricercatrice della Canegie Mellon University di Pittsburgh e autrice del libro di prossima uscita con Einaudi «Talento da Svendere. Perché il talento in Italia non riesce a prendere il volo».

«Anticipano mode che diventano di massa»

«E’ un’opportunità che sarebbe miope e anacronistico non cogliere». Daniele Iannaccone, responsabile dell’agenzia di marketing Com.ma, la più grande realtà dedicata all’universo gay, definisce così il fenomeno dell’economia generata dagli omosessuali.

Quali sono le potenzialità?

«I gay costituiscono un segmento importante con un proprio sistema di valori, di comportamenti, di stili di vita. E poi si tratta di una categoria che ha un reddito più alto della media italiana che supera del 38%. La pianificazione non è mirata al risparmio e la tendenza di questo gruppo è quella di spendere buona parte del proprio reddito».

A cosa preferiscono acquistare?

«I gay costituiscono una subcultura del consumo di grande interesse che sarebbe davvero riduttivo omologare alla cultura dominante. I gay non hanno soltanto i propri locali di ritrovo. La casa, il tempo libero, le vacanze, l’abbigliamento, la cura del corpo, una lunga serie di servizi rivestono un proprio specifico in questa popolazione».

E spesso fanno da apripista a prodotti che poi diventano di massa.

«Si tratta di una comunità che è trand setter, vale a dire che è trainante nel mondo dei consumi. Questo si è verificato per molti marchi. Per fare un esempio, la Vodka Absolute, negli Stati uniti si è affermata prima nel mondo gay. Ora la conoscono tutti».

Come si intercetta questo particolare tipo di domanda?

«Una via è quella di organizzare eventi dedicati rispettosi dei codici, delle convenzioni e delle sensibilità di questo mondo. Di solito sono molto divertenti e hanno una partecipazione allargata che arriva a includere fino al 30% di eterosessuali.
