We had an incredible time with Drew, Jaime, and their guests for a wedding week of fun back in May:) in Duck and Kitty Hawk. The weekend started with a beautiful reception on Saturday night in Duck, followed by a gorgeous wedding at the Kitty Hawk Pier House on Sunday, and we finished off with a portrait session later in the week at the nostalgic Whalehead Club. This is what OBX weddings are meant to be:)

We’ve had several posts with Josh and Sabrina over the past year, from their engagement shoot, sabrina’s bridals, pics from their photobooth at the wedding, and now we wanted to share a few of our favorites from their photographers’ preview. Words can’t describe how elegant and perfect their day was. So, really, I’m not going to try. I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves!-k

Bridal portraits, like engagements are a great way to tell the whole story of your wedding experience. Many brides come to the Outer Banks a few months before their wedding to finalize plans for their wedding day. This is a great time to take professional bridal portraits as well. Along with our series on engagements, we are doing a series of bridal portrait posts over the next few weeks.

The bridal portrait experience, we feel, needs to capture just who the bride is: we’ve had brides who pose with motor cycles, on horseback, and everything in between. The point is for us to capture who YOU are on camera. In later posts I’ll share some ideas from our brides on how they incorporated their bridal portraits into their wedding day decor- these modern day sessions/photos can be used in so many creative ways!… it can, but certainly doesn’t have to be the traditional…. !

Heather’s portraits were taken on Hatteras Island. (Heather is a Hatteras Island native, and wanted elegant photos with the backdrop of the scenes that make home such an amazing place.)- You’ll notice one photo with her dress framed with the granite stones marking the original foundation of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse- on those stones are names of her relatives who were lighthouse keepers at the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse- another personal touch to the shoot. You’ll also see in the first photo that Heather created a stir at the beginning of the shoot- and tourists wanted to come take their photo with her:)

We shot these engagement shots at various locations in Buxton and at the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. Below are also a few shots of how Amanda used these photographs in her wedding decor- and a few shots from the wedding. The lighthouse at the top of the cake- was well, the icing on the cake:)!

This year we are redesigning the portfolio main website to reflect our duality of work. I’ve been the “silent” (Daniel will laugh at that comment:) shooter since 2005, shooting not only as second photographer, with Daniel, but at many on-site solo gigs as well. We’re stoked that our new website will have features of both of our shots- even comparisons of our work from the same event. We want our clients to know that when we say “two photographers” we mean it. Not an intern. Not just someone with a camera, but a collective tight knit team of photographers. It helps too that we are super competitive with each other… that determines whose shots get used. i.e. it is interesting to note thought that I have final editing rights:)! lol!

One of our specialties is during the wedding one photographer shoots up close and the other photographer gets pulled back panos or photos that tend to be very artistic with sandfencing as the focal point, etc. This shot was taken last August- we heard the thunder, and I started to shoot. The lightning lined up just in time:) Thanks God! This was shot with a D700 camera, 24-85 f2.8 lens, at 1/1600th of a sec. Daniel and I take turns who takes which role during the ceremony. This day I was glad the “coin was tossed” in my favor!

So, a few samples (this is a really quick- see what’s on my desktop sample) of my work are below. Directly below is a sample of one of my photos that is being used in a commercial campaign. Many of the images as well in the below slideshow have been published in regional bridal magazines. Just another plus of having a team approach to our business!

Here is one of April’s most recent albums from Jenny & Nick’s wedding on Hatteras Island in April of 2011. This album encompasses Jenny and Nick’s engagement session, Jenny’s bridal session, and the wedding. April did a superb job blending the shoots and creating a very artistic and nostalgic one-of-a-kind design- exactly what Jenny and Nick wanted!

What made our wedding so special: Our ceremony was in a restaurant that was shut down for a few hours. My girls and I walked down a giant staircase and the ceremony was held on a small stage. The best part is that we can relive our wedding anytime we want just by going out for dinner or drinks! I walked down the aisle to the “Bridal March” which transitioned into “Cum on Feel the Noise,” by Quiet Riot played on the violin. My husband and I left to bagpipe music (a tradition in his family).
