Oh dear Monday, how I loathe thee.  When I was younger and asked the random question about which super power I’d like to have, it was always the same — to fly.  If asked today, I’d want to have the power to freeze time.  Is it me or does it feel as if time is just whizzing by?  In the famous words of Jessie Spano from “Saved by the Bell”:

“There’s no time! There’s never any time!”

OK, end of daily rant.  I’m still feeling blazers/tops/sweaters with structured shoulders.  Since I’m petite, anything that gives me a proportional boost, including in the shoulders, is a plus.

…but inside, it’s all hot chocolate, roaring fires, eggnog and mistletoe. Christmas is around the corner and there is no better season to bust out your sparkliest, most outrageous looks. No one you know is throwing a holiday bash? Throw one yourself! Nearly everyone gets infected by the seasonal goodwill, and it’s the perfect time for a smashin’ getup. Not to mention, there’s always some damn good munchies around.

The little black dress is a classic for parties. It’s easy, quick, looks great, and is always appropriate. You can go sexy-vixen with some skinny stilettos and a fab red lippie (again, the holidays are the perfect time for trying this!) or go more glam with some eye-catching heels and glittering earrings. There’s really no end at all to what you can do with a LBD…

Or you can go with a trend this year and try a super-sequined dress; it’s pretty much guaranteed all eyes will be on you- things this blinged out are practically visible from space. Nude heels will make your legs seem extra long, and keep the tone of the outfit from being too crazy and busy.

For the more casual get-togethers dark jeans are great- comfy as all get out but not sloppy. Adorable flats are great for those of us who, when tottering about in heels, are known as ‘Public Enemy #1″, or just if your tootsies are feeling a bit sore. A pretty blouse gives you just the right amount of polish.

Embrace your inner peacock and flaunt some silks, satins, pearls, lace, glitter and glam this holiday season!

What a miserable day it has suddenly become; the sunny morning held some promise but the afternoon was bitingly cold. I would like this bobble jumper from Whistles to keep out the wind. The buttons on the back are a pleasing detail.

I’m good at keeping them but I don’t like to. I have something that I’m not telling anyone, infact only one person knows, but they wouldn’t tell a soul. But this other person that I have this little secret between is the one forcing me to keep it quiet because or else they’ll have to deal with shit about me. But if a friend has to deal with things about another friend, for example someone could be ratting on about me, wouldn’t you stand up for them and “deal” with it? Yes? No?

And I found this, which has to do with up there ^ “I used to tell everyone I know that I hated you more than I’ve ever hated anyone, but the truth is that if you ever decided that you loved me again, I would drop everything and be with you. I love you and I still get butterflies whenever I hear your name.” That is what I used to do. Seriously. What the fuck is up with that? And I think I still feel that way, but I would have to act that way if you did come up in discussions between others. I don’t know why I feel that I love you, you tell me that you don’t want to have anything emotional coming your way because “it’s a waste of time”, and you telling me that didn’t cut me as much as I thought it would. And why am I still hanging on to this? Because your amazing.

Not even the prospect of having swine flu (I’ve got every symptom on the list) could stop me from leaving my death bed and going to H&M to stock up on the special Sonia Rykiel range they’ve launched today. Risking life and health (mine and others – although I took my germ gel, must have accessory of the moment) was well worth it, as this range is easily my favourite H&M designer collaboration so far.

I could have easily bought the whole lot, from pink lingerie sets to a black velvet bow dress. Sadly, the prettiest underwear only went up to a c-cup, which, I found rather frustrating. In the end I settled for black velvet pyjama pants and a matching jacket, perfect for lazy Sunday afternoons and so very 40s Hollywood. I also bought a light pink, floor-length silk dress, which can be dressed up – 30s hair, deep red lips- or down – a bit of black leather- as I feel like.

I can’t wait for the spring collection, which will feature Rykiel’s trademark kooky knitwear.

you have got to love your neighbourhood!

at least i know why i do. it’s the one place in this big city where  feel like i can go down the local shop with messy hair, tracksuit bottoms or dressed up in complete extravagance without getting any raised eyebrows or second looks for that matter. at the same time hackney comprises an interesting art movement, with more and more independent artists being attracted to its comparably cheap rent and house prices. there is an energy in this part of town that you cannot deny.

during the summer, hackney becomes even more sociable with its weekend markets and the neighbouring beloved victoria park (which actually counts as part of london’s borough tower hamlets). but in true british fashion, people are not discouraged from having a good time if the weather is not behaving, as the nightlife is probably the best across the entire big smoke.

i moved east over 4 years ago, after having experienced living in london’s suburbia in north london during my university years. i know i will be faithful to this part of town, since to me, everything i need, can be found here.

(*please note, i think that other parts of this city are probably just as great, i just haven’t had a chance to experience living there. to me, it’s all about finding your own little niche and making your neighbourhood and what is available to you work for you. so this is not to say that hackney rules and other boroughs don’t!)

I attended my ex-colleagues church wedding today after seeing Nathan’s Malay dance performance at his school’s graduating ceremony.  His stage presence was commendable and we could see that he was enjoying himself and reaping the rewards of the hard work.

I am very proud of him and how much he has grown over the last few months. Besides his improving handwriting and the ability to read blends, spell and count backwards, he is also learning to take care of his little brother. It is so endearing to see them hugging each other after a long day of separation.

Anyhow, my husband brought him to class so I could attend the wedding and also meet up with my ex-colleagues. I love church weddings. There is something so sacred and holy about it that purifies me each time I witness a couple solemnizing their vows. Marriage is a choice, a commitment and a covernant; it is permanent for as long as our lives on earth as far as God is concerned. I write this with a burden in my heart for those whose marriages are under attack. May God preserve your marriage during this time of trial.

“…Students must come to school dressed in a professional manner…”

the following must be worn at all times during school hours:

• Solid black Apron *
• Solid Black trousers or dress pants, knee length or longer skirts, or black dress;
• Solid, print, or patterned shirts or sweaters in white, black or grey
• Solid black shoes, dress boots, or open backed shoes

What that boils down to is that Regency Beauty Institute has a pretty awesome dress code :

Black closed toe shoes - Black pants - Black, Grey or White on top.

Jewelry, scarves, headbands, and other accessories can be in any color.

sounds easy enough right?  well, i thought so too – BUT,  now that i’m limited i’m finding all kinds of awesome COLORED tops to wear…lol. but that’s another story.  I also keep finding really freakin cute sleeveless shirts – which are prohibited – but again, that’s another story.

I have a lot of black  and white shirts – a LOT – so my husband didn’t understand the need for me to have more…HA!  Let’s just say he’s not a fashionista.  He also doesn’t understand the fact that i’m going to be working with chemicals…which is why i prefer not to wear white.

Plus, i want to look at leas SEMI professional – so that requires an upgrade (at least a little bit) to the wardrobe i currently have.

I didn’t want to spend a ton of money, after all – it is nearly christmas and i am on a tight budget – so i headed to Burlington Coat Factory where i scored three grey sweaters, two black sweaters, and two black pairs of comfy dress slacks for about $40.00 – YAY ME.

now shoes – the only black shoes i have are peep toe pumps, which are NOT closed toe, no matter how you squint your eyes, and a pair of black sneakers that i wore during the haunt, and one pair of black boots.

looks like those boots will be getting a starring role in my wardrobe from now on.  Luckily  - i like them, so its all good.  I’m heading out with V., one of my girlfriends, for some shoe shopping later…hopefully i’ll score a good deal on some flats or something.

* this is the only thing that saddens me b/c i have a pretty awesome pink bowed – skull & crossbone print apron that i want to wear realllly bad.

Now, once I make Student Designer, and then Master Designer, I’ll be allowed to wear whatever professional dress i want – as long as i have my name tag on – this makes me happy too.

Under normal circumstances, I would be happy to oblige and just chat anything Chanel. But that experience was both awkward and flattering at the same time. Anywoo, I came out of the session with a greater love for my flap!

I met up with Valencia for dinner today. We had a wonderful time sharing bits and pieces of our lives with one another! It was also fun and heartwarming to be able to relate to one another in terms of religion, life experiences and relationships despite it being our first meeting. We had a nice dinner where we enjoyed yummy reasonably priced pasta at Pastamania (my second time there) as well. It is also such a pleasure to know that we live pretty near one another!

An exfoliating cleanser and pink shimmer nail polish from Stila and a cream eyeshadow/base from MAC — I love them! She knows me well I am really glad and thankful for the gifts of friends and generosity. Friendships are a gem that should be held dear to heart always, that is if they are genuine and sincere to begin with.

This caught my eye as soon as it came out of the box at Anthro last Sunday. So quickly that I don’t even think the dress had been processed by the time I purchased it!

I thought the fit was a little tight on the high waist, but it’s mostly true to size. I wasn’t quite sure what shoes to wear, but I think the boots worked. Definitely a cute dress for work…
