I love challenges. There are some details below, but you must go to the site to actually sign up and participate! Here are 6 sample books that meet each criteria. (Rose is twice because it is a plant and you can eat rose petals!
So here’s how it works: Between January 1 and December 31, 2010, read one book in each of the following categories:

A book with a food in the title: Clockwork Orange, Grapes of Wrath, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society

A book with a body of water in the title: A River Runs through It, Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters, The Lake House

A book with a title (queen, president) in the title: The Murder of King Tut, The Count of Monte Cristo, Lady Susan

A book with a plant in the title: A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, Wind in the Willows, The Name of the Rose

A book with a place name (city, country) in the title: Out of Africa; London; Between, Georgia

A book with a music term in the title: Song of Solomon, Ragtime, The Piano Teacher

The book titles are just suggestions, you can read whatever book you want to fit the category.

So, are you game? If so then pop on over to the What’s in a Name Challenge site to join in the reading fun!

Just search for “Outlander” on YouTube and you’ll see all of the various videos. Which one do you like best?
John Cooper’s art brings about recollections of restless sleep and dark dreams. His digital creations explore the permanence of man’s creations and the relentless attacks against those things by the forces of nature. Man builds and nature destroys. Mankind never seems to accept the futility of progress and continues to blindly push forward. But nature will always win, and it will win without trying.

Artist Statement:

The human mind craves organization. Nature craves randomness. Humans try hard, much too hard, to tame nature. Constantly straining against the relentless chaos we build, organize, constrain and maintain. Nature, simply blows its winds, drips its water, sprouts its seeds and wipes away the efforts of man. Simply, and without effort.

My art explores this conflict and examines how we can never win this battle. Technology might give us longer lasting products and constructions but no matter how well we design and build, nature will always wipe out our work with little effort. Mankind is a weak force in the universe and we like to imagine otherwise. We see ourselves as powerful forces. When in reality we can’t even combat the simple drip of water or a grain of sand propelled by the wind.

Q44z Gallery is working hard to be the premier online gallery for self-taught artists. While we know that traditionally trained artists produce amazing and wonderful work, we believe that the self-trained artists often produce more meaningful art.

It’s the outsider artist that is free from create untainted by educational influences and prejudices. Self-trained artists create their work because they simply have the desire to create, they typically don’t create because they are trying to make a living or build a career from their work. They create because it’s in their souls. They create because they can’t not create.

Q44z is a unique kind of gallery because our artists are unique.

With an increasing number of holiday festivities being held in the home this year, we’re all l

With an increasing number of holiday festivities being held in the home this year, we’re all looking for creative and cost effective ways to spruce up our table settings and create a look that will impress our guests. When it comes to setting your Thanksgiving table, options for the adventurous host are limitless. What are the hottest trends for you to bring to your table this year? Here are a few ideas that will take your Thanksgiving table from ordinary to extraordinary:

Color, Texture and Mix – Match:

In table linens and accessories, this year we are seeing rich, saturated colours. We are also seeing a lot of texture and the mixing and matching of patterns with solids. There are a lot of options out there to do something warm and inviting.

Color Trends

Warm tones have always been popular for Fall and that continues with some of the biggest trends in colour combinations this year. Some of those include:
- Deep Spice and Aubergine with muted Gold accents – Dark Chocolate with Blues and Gray accents – Olive Green, Aubergine and softer greens as accents – Dark Chocolate, Taupe and Natural

Tabletop Decor

- Use things that you already have in your home – pull out your 3 or 4 of your favourite vases of different heights. Use complementary colors of fresh flowers for a simple and stunning arrangement. Fill three or four vases and/or glass bowls with different colors and sizes of ornaments, fruits, leaves – anything with color and texture that will create visual excitement.

- Your guests are all unique – why not celebrate their individuality? Use different patterns and/or colors of napkin rings that match their unique personalities. Are they simple or sophisticated? Fun or formal? Unpredictable or conservative? Show them you care with a little customization to complement your table linens.

- Candles are always a dramatic and cost effective way to make a statement – use votives at each place setting with a name card and emphasize beautiful table linens for a classy and simple look. Or go more dramatic and cluster your favourite candle sticks of varying heights and looks as a centerpiece. Use colors that complement or match your dishes, glasses and table linens.

- Nothing brings subtle sophistication to your table like a well-selected runner. Use one the length of the table plus 12 inches to hang over the edge (usually a 90″ or longer) as the perfect centerpiece. If you are using a solid tablecloth or placemats, make sure to jazz it up with a festive pattern. If you have a patterned look already, use a vibrant solid runner that picks up on one of the colors in your runner.

- Use 2 napkins instead of one with a napkin ring. With a solid napkin inside, and a more decorative napkin on the outside.

When setting your table, just remember: do what feels right for the mood. A casual gathering calls for a relaxed setting. A formal meal should feel that way at the table. Either way, it doesn’t take much to elevate your in-home dining experience. Replacing an old tablecloth with something fresh an exciting, and adding a few simple table accessories can go a long way to impressing your guests. It’s that time of year when family gatherings abound and everyone spends countless hours congregating around the dinner table. With the hours spent preparing the perfect meal, make sure you don’t forget to finish it off with the perfect setting.

I’m one of those people who likes to have a visual representation of characters while I read a

I’m one of those people who likes to have a visual representation of characters while I read a book, so I’ll often save images in a folder on my computer of actors and the like who resemble the characters the way I imagine them. I’ve been quite successful in finding pictures of actors who look like the characters from Outlander the way I imagine them to be (though these may or may not be actors I would pick to play them in a movie), so I thought I’d share them with you all. I also figured that I might as well go all out, so I visited Picnik and created some lovely scrapbook pages for your viewing pleasure. Without further adieu . . .

Jamie and Claire

Jamie has always been Gerard Butler for me, both in looks and in personality, as he has the right height and build, as well as Jamie’s wry smile and sense of humor. He’s also one actor listed here whom I would like to see cast in the movie, should it ever happen. Naysayers have said that Gerard is too old to play a younger Jamie, but I think these pictures (which are from P.S. I Love You) prove that without the scruff and a little longer hair, Gerard still can pull off a youthful character.

Claire is shown here as Lena Headey, who played alongside Gerry in 300 (see lower right - hand corner). I see her more as an older Claire, which is honestly all I can imagine Claire as anymore, as the majority of the books have her in her fourties and fifties. Lena has the timeless, elegant beauty (in these pictures, anyhow) to pull off a mature Claire, though I see someone like Kate Winslet or Rachel Weisz portraying a younger Claire in the movie.

Brianna and Roger

My Roger is Henry Cavill, as he has the right height, build, coloring and quiet presence as Roger. I’d cast him on looks alone, for I honestly don’t know much about his acting ability, seeing as the last and only film I saw him in was The Count of Monte Cristo when he was much younger.

This actress, Alicia Witt, is honestly not who I had in mind for my version of Bree. I had some random curly-haired red-headed lass for her, but Picnik didn’t seem to like the photo, so I had to substitute Alicia. She actually bears a striking resemblance to how I pictured Rachel Hunter in book seven before I read a bit closer and realized she was supposed to have dark hair. I can’t seem to get a red-haired Rachel out of my mind now, but what can you do?

Young Ian (and Rollo)

Aww, it’s Ian, my second favorite Outlander guy after Jamie. He’s a bit sassy, has a humorous streak, is bold and brave, but at the same time gentle and considerate. What’s not to love? With his lanky build and long, slightly homely (but endearing) face, French actor Gaspard Ulliel is just as I imagine Young Ian. Now all the casting directors need to do is find a Scotsman who looks just like him, because can you honestly imagine a Frenchman pulling off a Scots dialect? I didn’t think so.

How could I not include Rollo, Ian’s favorite furry companion? His loyal friend is represented by a random Irish Wolfhound, becuase I couldn’t find a Wolfhound-Wolf cross. Isn’t he a braw, bonny lad, though?

Well, now, wasn’t that a lovely way to waste time? Did I get the images of these characters right? Who are your ideals for the folks of Outlander, both the images of them as you read the book and who you’d like to see cast in the movie? Do leave a comment and let us know.

I am so very excited about joining the Outlander Challenge! I’ve been wanting to read this series for a while now (surely I’m not the only one who hasn’t read it?), and I have the first book sitting on my shelf. However, it’s so hefty and daunting I knew it would take me a while to get to it. This is just the motivation I need!

The challenge is hosted by JennJ and runs from Nov. 17, 2009 to Nov. 17, 2010. For full details and to sign up, head over here.

I finished reading An Echo in the Bone last night by Diana Gabaldon. For those who don’t know, this

I finished reading An Echo in the Bone last night by Diana Gabaldon. For those who don’t know, this is the 7th book in the series. I absolutely adored the first six books. I am obsessed with Claire and Jamie Fraser to the point my husband knew to get me the Outlandish Companion for our first wedding anniversary 8 years ago.

It took me 28 days to read Echo!

This is disturbing because I usually devour her books in 2-3 days. I love her books. I love Jamie and Claire. I love to read!

If you follow me on Twitter or Goodreads, you saw my pained and whiny updates wondering when the book was going to end.

“Done! I will post about my thoughts soon….” — 1 hour, 15 min ago

Somewhere after the early part the initial excitement wore off, and I began to realize that the story was d-r-a-g-g-i-n-g! Finally toward the end, the last hundred or two pages picked up for me. I saw glimmers of what I remember loving about Jamie and Claire.

Overall, I am glad I persevered and finished it. There was a touch and go point where I thought this would be a DNF for me, and it was very upsetting. I must say that I do have some serious gripes with the book as written.

First, we spent way too much time on William for no apparent reason other than to establish that he was in fact in the colonies and fighting as a British soldier. That could have been accomplished in a few less hundred pages than it took.

Second, there was not nearly enough time spent on Jamie and Claire. This is their story for crying out loud! 50% of the book should have been about them at a minimum. Hello, why did we gloss over the big reveal that Claire is a time traveler to the Murrays? That should have been a seriously dramatic moment, and I felt like it was rushed and incomplete. I wish we had spent more time saying good bye to Ian. I wanted to see Claire and Jenny hash out their differences and the accusations of her not healing Ian.

Third, Brianna and Roger’s story got left in limbo. More time could have been spent there as it seemed more pertinent than whether William had killed a rebel yet or not. Brianna is left in peril, and Roger is gone through the stones. (I am sure this will all be resolved in the 8th book, but really what a crappy spot to leave us hanging.)

Fourth, Young Ian and Rachel’s story would have made a nice arc to focus on in a way that showed their relationship developing more. When did she fall in love with him exactly? Oh, and what about William in this triangle?

Fifth, honestly who is Denzel Hunter and Why do I give two hoots whether he ends up with Lady Dorothea Grey or not? Where did they come from, and why not save that tale for one of Lord John’s books? This is Jamie and Claire’s story!

Bottom line for me, more time should have been spent where it counts. On Jamie and Claire and the original important characters.

There were good things for me. I loved seeing Jamie and Claire still so in love (although I think Claire jumped in bed with John a little quickly) through all their trials. I cried when Ian Murray died. I mean I bawled. I love when a book can make me cry.

I could go on and on about the things that annoyed me, and clearly I have. I gave this one 2 stars on Goodreads, and I am sticking to that here. I really wanted more of Jamie and Claire’s story, but got left with a bunch of side characters that just weren’t that interesting to me. Sigh. I hope the last book will be more like the rest, because right now Echo feels more like a bridge. A bridge to nowhere.

First of all, WHY do I torture myself by reading all of these books that belong to a series? Why!? E

First of all, WHY do I torture myself by reading all of these books that belong to a series? Why!? Every single one of them are just full of heartwrenching and conflicting plots and characters (making my blood pressure shoot up to the sky), concluding only with a killer cliffhanger (if not more)– all making me scream internally and sometimes, literally out loud: “Arghhh!” Hmpf! I guess I allow myself to be ‘tortured’ because it’s worth it. Reading such compelling work by such talented people is really quite an experience. Breaking a sweat once in a while over well written fiction can’t hurt, right? Makes me feel crazy at times, but it keeps me alive. Ok. Whew (inhale, exhale)… got that out of my system now haha. So now, a few words about the two most recent installments to two of many of my favorite series…

“An Echo In The Bone” by Diana Gabaldon. These Outlander books normally take me a while to finish. ‘A while’ in my world means 1-3 weeks; depending on my work schedule and social life. I absolutely love this series with a passion. I know the end is coming near with Jamie and Claire (or will have to end, eventually) and I get sad thinking about it! I don’t think Gabaldon will disappoint with their ending, though. As much as one hell of a ride it’s been with these two key characters, I really want to know about Jamie’s ghost in the first book! I hope that when the end of Jamie and Claire does come, Gabaldon will give us readers the ‘closure’ we need. AEITB left a few cliffhangers with various characters and I can’t do anything for the next 3 years or so. I do think though, that there will be at least 2 more installments before she writes the ‘final’ Outlander novel. So adding that up and estimating… I might be near 40 before the series ends!!

“The Girl On Legare Street” totally made me scream out loud at the end. It took me 3 days to finish and when I did, I couldn’t believe the ending! I have to wait 2 more years until the next one comes out too. Let’s just say, I’m so mad at Jack right now that I can totally wait haha. Ugh! Why did KW have to end it like that? =/

The bad news is that I have to wait another 2-3 years for the next one in both these series. The good news is that there are several coming out in 2010 that are follow ups to my other favorite series… (hehe)

So this guy owns a house on a remote Irish island with a small population. The house disappears when

So this guy owns a house on a remote Irish island with a small population. The house disappears when he’s overseas. When he investigates, he (and the police from the mainland) hit a “wall of silence.” 170 people in a space less than 3 square miles, and nobody heard or saw anything. The entire island is made up of artisans, living “off the grid,” under the shadow of the ruined bell tower of a sixth-century monastery. All that’s missing is Eddie Woodward with a corncob up his ass, watching a slow-motion, soft-focus orgy.

I’m serious as twat cancer, you guys. Their tourism information says that they are literally “one of the last places in Ireland that holds onto, rather than simply paying lip service to, traditional Irish culture.” They speak their own dialect and they have a fucking king of the island. There’s a ferry service. That’s it. And if one of the islanders sabotages your pontoon plane, you’re completely and utterly fucked. If a stone structure can be burned and demolished with no justice, there’s about a 247.9% chance that nobody will even report your ass missing.

I think I speak for all of us when I say that it’s a testament to humanity that a place like this exists. And that I want to be the king. Imagine it… a whole tribe of isolated heathens, keeping the community afloat with arts and crafts, desecrating Christian monuments and sacrificing outlanders to improve the Fimo clay bead harvest. Me and Diane Cilento sitting on the floor post-anal, laughing and singing: “Fair maid, says he, your kettle’s cracked. The cause is plainly told. There hath so many nails been drove, mine own could not take hold!” It’s so beautiful, I’m leaking from both ends.

Of course, I could manufacture a similar environment with a little indoctrination and a big-ass wall, but I love the authenticity of the always-been-like-this heresy. And as much as I despise children, I would enjoy watching my minions shit out the next generation of cryptic, increasingly malevolent and intelligent inhabitants of my private Eden. (No anesthesia, of course, because I feed from the suffering of women.) Especially when they get to be about eight or nine and I have the “responsibility” of organizing their first gangbangs. Nothing like the pitter-patter of spooge dripping from cunts that can’t even vote yet.

Now, I know what you’ll say. “You can’t do that to children! I’m bringing the whole police force to put an end to your debauchery! Wait… What the fuck is this? Some kind of statue? Fuck! Let me go! You don’t want to do this! Some part of you is still human! You know that your raffia crop has nothing to do with appeasing the ancient god of dried floral arrangements! Dear Jesus, save me! Arrraggghhhh!”

Or something like that. You know.

Did you forget about the Endeavor? Don’t feel bad, most people have. In fact, Mitsubishi even forgot to offer a 2009 model. But that doesn’t mean you should forget to look at the Endeavor if you are in the market for a mid-sized CUV.

Back in 2003, the then new Endeavor beat out heavy hitters like the Nissan Murano, Toyota Highlander and Honda Pilot in an Edmunds comparison test. It won that comparison test not by outright dominating, but by being consistently competent.

Though little changed since then, the core features that helped take the top slot in that comparison test are still present today. Edmunds editors noted the Endeavor’s well-balanced ride and handling dynamics, a gutsy V6, a roomy, comfortable cabin and solid build quality.

But time waits for no CUV, and the losers in that comparison have all been redesigned since then, while the Endeavor has soldiered on without an update and with few changes. So in the absence of a redesign, Mitsubishi is endeavoring to sell more of their mid-sized CUV by offering up some attractive incentives. Read about them after the jump.

Now through the end of September, customers can choose between $3500 cash back or 0% financing for up to 48 months and 1.9% financing for up to 60 months. If you can still find a 2008 model on dealer lots, there is $4000 dealer cash available, but no special finance rates.

While the Endeavor doesn’t offer some of the latest wiz-bang features, it does offer a package that is safe, roomy and comfortable. With these latest incentives, it is also more affordable. For many, that is all they ask for in their vehicle.

streetfire.com (10/21/2009)
“Eighty percent of the fun of an Evo, for about $10,000 less.”
“I really like the grippy Recaro seats. They have nice bolstering on the sides”

Lancer Sportback Ralliart Reviews

National Post [CANADA] (10/15/2009), Vancouver Sun (10/15/2009), The Province (10/16/2009), Montreal Gazette (10/16/2009), Driving (10/18/2009)
“It is a seriously fast car that seems to relish being pushed toward redline.”
“The all-wheel-drive system is very proficient in all it does…Layering the system’s proactive nature with front and rear limited-slip differentials means that getting the Ralliart unglued is darned near impossible. It is a dynamically balanced system that inspires confidence.”
“The suspension does a good job of balancing the handling characteristics with the ride quality. There is very little body roll, yet the suspenders soak up all but the roughest patches of pavement without missing a beat.”
“Of course, if things do come unravelled, there is a good electronic stability/traction control system waiting to rein things in. Even when flirting with the limits of adhesion, the system rarely has to step in such is the Ralliart’s cornering tenacity.”
“The Lancer Sportback Ralliart is a quick ride that handles like the dickens, has a very good all-wheel-drive system and some of the best bucket seats in the industry. In short, the Lancer Sportback Ralliart is best described as an eight-tenths Evolution.”

cars.com, Chicago Tribune (10/15/2009)
“Mitsubishi’s new Lancer Sportback is a combination that’s safe to call a success. Blending the sporty shape of a coupe with the functionality of a four-door hatchback, the Lancer Sportback has plenty of style to go along with its versatility. It’s also a lot of fun to drive.”
“I give Mitsubishi credit for taking a risk with the Sportback’s styling rather than creating just another traditional hatchback.”
“Lancer Sportback reminds me a lot of the Mazda3 because its chassis and steering tuning encourage you to have a little fun when the road bends.”
“The suspension does a nice job managing body motions while still allowing the car to have a playful, lively feel to it. The nimble chassis is complemented by its quick-reacting steering.”
“The manual shifter moves precisely through the gears, and its throws are short. The light clutch pedal is easy on your leg, and it engages easily, which makes for smooth takeoffs.”
“What’s likely going to draw shoppers to the Sportback is its styling, which notably departs from the hatchback norm. There’s a lot more to the car than looks, though, which is why it compares favorably with the Mazda3 and Impreza hatchbacks. On the whole, it’s a well-executed addition to Mitsubishi’s Lancer lineup.”

Eclipse Review

Toronto Globe and Mail (10/15/2009)
“The ride and handling is more fun and spirited than the base model. The deep engine tone is also exhilarating, especially when you put the pedal to the metal.”
“The interior of the Eclipse is well laid out and user-friendly. Large, round HVAC dials are easy to use and find. The black-face meters with ice-blue illumination add a pleasant and youthful feel to the cabin while remaining easy to read even in the dark.”
“The exterior is attractive with long, clean-flowing lines from front to fear. My tester’s solar yellow paint is a knockout.”

Yeah, I’ve been a bit of an absentee here lately, but I do have a good reason (a few actually). It is that time of the school semester where one has about fifty thousand things going on assignment wise and not nearly enough time to complete them. I’ve personally got two group projects and a paper to complete and a technology project for work and I’m about ready to tear my hair out as a result.
Oh, but I have found time to read, thank goodness, and I’ve found an excellent series which I shall share with you all. I’ve been working my way through Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series and if any of you are familiar with these books, then you know why it has taken me so long to get anything posted here about them.
They are massive books — between 800 and 1000 pages a piece — which is good for me, since I can usually breeze through a book in a matter of a couple of hours. It is a bit frustrating contstantly having to be on the look out for new reading material, so I do enjoy Gabaldon’s detailed approach to storytelling. Of course, on the flip side of that, sometimes too many details can bog down the plot a bit (see book five, The Fiery Cross, for the Clan Gathering that just. would. not. end.).
Overall, though, they are grand books with some of my most favorite characters in print today. I’ll be sure to share more details once I finish all of the books, though I will probably just give my overall impression of the series, since I don’t want to give anything away plot wise to new readers. I do hate it when I read a write-up of a book that I have yet to read that is really more of a plot summary than a review. Those types of “reviewers” are a bunch of clot-heids (you’ll learn what that means if you read Outlander) and they make me want to toss a few oaths at them in the Gaidhlig, which you’ll also learn if you read Outlander (aren’t new languages fun?). Anyway, I’ll try not to be that girl . . .

Lancer Sportback Reviews

Saskatoon [CAN] Star Phoenix 9/4/2009
“The Sportback performed flawlessly. Doing the day-to-day things is a lot easier when the vehicle is suited to the task, and the Sportback rose to the occasion every time.”
“Working the transmission was considerably more fun than just leaving it in drive. Mitsubishi has chosen to have actual gear ratio “steps” in its CVT transmission. This means that when you give a tug on the paddle shifter, you can actually feel a gear change.”

Weekly Voice [CAN] 9/5/2009
“Thanks to its extra-roofline, there is much more space for you to haul your stuff in. So if you have baby strollers to lug around, this would come in handy.”
“The ride is quite plush, think of it as a mini Cadillac and you’ll get the idea.”

Carconnection.com 8/7/2009
“The Sportback appears a bit roomier than the Subaru Impreza WRX in the cargo area….Also of note is that the hatch opens down all the way to the bumper, for especially easy loading.”
“No manual transmission is offered on the Ralliart Sportback as of yet, but the Twin Clutch gearbox remains a favorite of TheCarConnection.com, pulling off quicker shifts under power than almost any skilled driver would be capable of, while not bringing the fuel-economy penalty in real-world driving that often accompanies traditional automatics.”
“Overall, there’s a lot to love in the Sportback’s package, including a lot more practicality without a significant difference in the driving experience versus the sedan.”
“The Ralliart trumps the WRX in steering feel.”

Lancer Ralliart Review

Autocraze.com 8/28/2009
“Has loads of power, handling is great, has a dual-clutch transmission and an AWD system that offers some of the finest rallying experiences.”
“Offers an experience like no other machine in its range.”
“Mitsu has gone absolutely bonkers on this one, trying to make one of the best rally cars available to the common man.”
“I have no qualms about the Ralliart. It just has so much to offer. This is the perfect machine to tackle down winding corners on the highest mountains without the fear of falling of the cliff.”

CNET 8/20/2009
“With its dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel-drive system, the 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart delivers exciting performance on twisty roads.”
“An excellent car for weekend sport driving.”
“The Lancer Ralliart squeezes power out of a 2-liter four-cylinder engine through the use of a turbocharger and variable valve timing, then puts it to the wheels that need it most with its advanced all-wheel-drive system. The result is some of the most impressive cornering performance on the most difficult roads we’ve found.”

Carconnection.com 8/8/2009
“Mitsubishi detunes the Evolution’s engine but at the same time makes it more drivable for most everyday users in the 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart. The results are impressive.”
“The 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart might be the new king of the budget thrill rides.”
“The 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart’s body is as sound as they come.”

Examiner 8/4/2009
“The Ralliart bridges the gap between the fun Lancer GTS and the awe-inspiring Evo by taking the best points of each and placing them in a balanced, affordable package.”
“Driving the Ralliart is a joy…perfect for a brisk drive down a winding country road….The Ralliart moves sinuously through curves – not as flat as the Evo, but definitely a true sports car.”
“Subaru’s latest interpretation of the Impreza line has met with lukewarm support from the press and enthusiast community, so Mitsubishi is poised to capitalize on that weakness with the Ralliart.”
“The bottom line on the Lancer Ralliart is that Mitsubishi has hit that same sweet spot formerly occupied by the Porsche 356SC and the Ferrari GT Berlinetta Lusso. Those are the cars Ferry Porsche and Enzo Ferrari chose to be their own daily drivers. Why not choose a Lancer Ralliart for yours?”

Eclipse Spyder Review

London [ONT} Free Press 9/4/2009
“I’m a sucker for this car, which I still think is one of the prettiest on the planet.”
“The GT-P gets a new dual exhaust, which not only produces a great sound but unleashes a few more horses from the 3.8-litre V6.”
“The top folds down into its own dedicated compartment, hidden from sight by a hard tonneau cover. That means the top and its mechanism don’t intrude into the trunk, which is a useful 147 litres – a bonus in a car this type.”

Overview

Endeavour was the ship commanded by Captain James Cook, hero of the Seven Years War, when he set off from England in 1768 to scientifically survey New Zealand and Australia.

Mitsubishi’s Endeavor has easier objectives, but far greater competition from others. The Endeavor is a midsize sport utility that seats five, with generous space in the front and rear seats. The rear seatbacks flip down to reveal a big cargo area with a perfectly flat floor.

In spite of its rugged appearance, Endeavor is built more like a car than a truck. Underway, the Endeavor handles well and offers a nice, smooth ride. Its drive-by-wire throttle provides responsive control, and its 3.8-liter V6 delivers adequate power, though the Endeavor won’t win many drag races. It’s available with front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, but we much prefer the AWD model.

Barely six years old, the Mitsubishi Endeavor has been moderately facelifted for 2009. ABS with traction control is now standard. The standard towing capacity has been increased to 3500 pounds. And all Endeavor sound systems now include MP3 capability.

Model Lineup

Mitsubishi has simplified the Endeavor lineup for 2009, leaving only two trim levels: LS and Limited. Each is available with front-wheel drive (2WD) or all-wheel drive (AWD). All are powered by a 3.8-liter V6 making 225 horsepower mounted transversely (sideways) and mated to a four-speed automatic transmission with Sportronic manual shifting capability.

The LS 2WD ($26,599) and AWD ($27,999) come with the usual power accessories, plus a 140-watt sound system with single-disc CD player and MP3 playback, new brush-finish 17-inch alloy wheels with mud-and-snow-rated tires, intermittent rear window washer, roof rails, steering wheel controls, remote entry, full-size spare tire, and a remote tailgate release.

A new Road Trip Package for the LS ($2,000) adds a rear-seat DVD entertainment system with wireless headphones and remote, six-disc CD changer, an enhanced color dot-matrix information display (including compass, outside temperature, fuel computer, and maintenance recorder), sport-touch steering wheel, cargo cover, cargo net, and an alarm.

Limited 2WD ($30,799) and AWD ($32,299) add automatic climate control, premium cloth seats with power for the driver’s seat, 315-watt MP3-capable sound system with six-disc CD changer, power sunroof, the color dot-matrix information display, fog lights, crossbars for the roof rails, the cargo cover and alarm.

Leather upholstery is available with the Leather Plus Package ($1,400) that includes seat heaters and heated outside mirrors. The Family Entertainment Package ($1,200) for the Limited includes the DVD system, wireless headphones and remote control. Mitsubishi Active Skid and Traction Control ($995), an electronic stability control system, is available only on Limited AWD.

Safety features on all 2009 Endeavors include dual-stage frontal airbags and front seat-mounted side-impact airbags, anti-lock brakes (ABS) with electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), traction control, and a tire-pressure monitor. Curtain airbags are not available. Wear your seat belts as they are your first line of defense in an accident.
