Have a cold? (Hab a cold?) Intimidated by the drug store? Here’s a bilingual guide to getting

Have a cold? (Hab a cold?) Intimidated by the drug store? Here’s a bilingual guide to getting cold medicine in Japan.

First, while you’re treating a cold with medicine, remember to take preventative measures to keep from spreading the cold to others or making it worse. In addition to the ones listed in the link, you should wash out Nalgene water-bottles or thermoses you use with hot, soapy water. (Can’t hurt to do your laundry, too.)

On the wall of OTC medicines, look for “General Cold Medicine”(sougoukaze gusuri or just kaze gusuri).

By the powers of Western medicine and Chinese herbs combined...

The kind I got was　Wダブル配合 ダイヤル3かぜ課料 (W daburu haigo daiyaru san kaze karyuu), or W Double Composition Level-3 Cold Granules. This particular medicine promises you the combined powers of 漢方　(kanpou), Chinese herbs, AND 西洋薬 (seiyou gusuri), Western medicine, as a 総合感冒薬 (sougoukanbou gusuri), a general common cold/influenza medicine.

If you’re in a pinch, you can usually guess at what the medicine targets by looking at the picture on the box. This medicine’s box has stars over the forehead, nose, and neck of the figure on the box. The front of the box lists the target symptoms: 発熱 (hatsunetsu), fever); 鼻水 (hanamizu), runny nose (literally nose-water, yum); and 筋肉の痛み (kinniku no itami), muscle pain. On the back of the box, it lists other targeted symptoms: 鼻づまり／鼻つまり (hana-zumari or hana-tsumari), stuffy nose;　くしゃみ (kushami), sneezing; のどの痛み　(nodo no itami), sore throat; せき　(seki), cough;　たん (tan), phlegm/post-nasal drip; 悪寒 (okan); chills; and 関節の痛み (kansetsu no itami), joint-pain.

This is a long post, so click the link for usage guidelines, a list of ingredients, and my experience taking the medicine.

How do you take this medicine? The 用法(youhou) (usage) instructions for the medicine state that the recommended dosage (用量　youryou) for adults (成人 seijin) over 15 years of age (１５歳以上 juugosai ijou) is 1 packet (１包 ippou), 3 times a day (１日３回) within 30 minutes of a meal　（ 食後30分以内に）. Do the regular kampou method of putting the medicine on the back of your tongue and washing it down with water.

Cost:
Twelve doses for 1365 yen.

What’s in this?
Acetaminophen (アセトアミノフェン), which reduces fever and acts as a pain killer
Dextromethorphan （ デキストメトルファン ）, for cough suppression
Potassium guaiacolsulfonate/ guaifenesin 　（ グアヤコールスルホン酸カリウム）, to clear the lungs of mucus
Riboflavin sodium phosphate (リボフラビンリン酸エステルナトリウム), vitamin B2; extra vitamins to fight the cold
dl-Methylephedrine hydrochloride　（ dl-メチルエフェドリン塩酸塩散）, for cough suppression
Chinese herbs, for various cold-related things (seriously, that’s what it says)*

Strength:
Let’s compare this medicine to Dayquil, which is illegal in Japan but popular in the States. Dayquil has 325 mg of acetaminophen per capsule; this medicine has 300 mg of acetaminophen per packet. With Dayquil, you’d probably take 6 capsules a day, which would get you 1950 mg of acetaminophen; with the 3 doses of Dial 3, you’d only get 900 mg per day. So, no, it’s not as strong.

My experience:
The medicine didn’t make me drowsy–it fact, I was quite genki after taking a dose. It definitely helped with the symptoms, especially the runny nose and the cough. I took all twelve doses over the course of four days and I was feeling well enough to stop taking medicine after finishing the box. Your mileage may vary based on how you react to cold medicines, but I was quite pleased with this one.

I hope this information will be useful in your searches for cold medicines that work for you!

(odaiji ni!) Get better soon!

pennystock-promoter.com The entire world watched as the saga of the “balloon boy” unfold

pennystock-promoter.com

The entire world watched as the saga of the “balloon boy” unfolded. The CNN’s, BBC’s, Newspapers, Radio and every other reputable news media covered the horror of a child soaring through the sky perilously close to meeting an untimely fate.

In the end it was a HOAX. The entire world had been duped by an egocentrically, uneducated, self-centered nut case, or was this man a “nutcase”.

One could argue he is a genius – (perverted and twisted though). Using common household items he pieced together a balloon, then using his telephone, he alerted the world of the horror which he had secretly witnessed, hoping to reap big rewards out of his orchestrated drama.

Amazing!! So imagine this, if the balloon boy’s father son combo can motivate the entire world media at a nominal cost – How for gods sake can a simple person, say like me, have even a remote chance to survive the grossly over financed, marketing campaigns orchestrated by media heavyweights to dupe you into buying a share in a company?

You and I have absolutely no chance. Ask the clients of Bernie Madoff, the purchasers of BRE-X etc – what was that! It was the sound of you losing your shorts.

Was there a JFK conspiracy? Are there UFOs? Are there alien’s amongst us? Is the world flat? I don’t know, but some people think all the aforementioned are true.

With all of his, hey I have a new word, “Balloon Power”. What can a naïve plebe like me do to pop the Balloon?

Simple rule – check the story out Before you report it. We could give you many reasons why the media totally screwed up the Balloon boy story – but we won’t – because I can’t afford to pay for lawyers to defend my allegations.

Let’s get back on track – the only way to beat Balloon Power is to pop it. So when you want to invest in a stock – be wary of Balloon Power.

So how do we fight this new phenomena called Balloon Power. Simple, use the grey matter between your ears before you use your hands to write a cheque.

When a stock is touted to you – don’t believe what you read, go beyond the story, and do some research.

Read the company website, press releases, annual reports, filings, articles, hire experts, accountants, lawyers, financial advisors, look at track record, and the experience of management then make your own decision based on what you have learned.

Do you really think the media did any research at all when the Balloon boy was allegedly soaring with the birds?

So I say help the word stamp out Balloon Power – Pop the bubble and start by doing a little homework before jumping into that hot new stuck and soaring into financial oblivion.

Cough Medicine Addiction Common in Teens, Military Cough medicine, found in drug stores or supermark

Cough Medicine Addiction Common in Teens, Military

Cough medicine, found in drug stores or supermarkets, is helpful in the upcoming flu season. However, what many people don’t realize is that many cough medicines contain DXM.

Dextromethorphan, or “DXM” is an ingredient found in many over-the-counter cold medicines. However, DXM can produce a high similar to LSD. When taken in excess, it produces hallucinations, “out of body states”, dizziness, and vivid dreams. It is found in over 140 over-the-counter medications, Coricidin being the most popular. Any product that says “DM” or “Tuss” on the label may contain DXM.

One lady was very worried. “I am 36 years old, have a nice family, great children,” she stated. “I started taking Coricidin for a cold, and haven’t stopped. I am worried because I get actual cravings for it. I shake when I pass the medicine aisle in the grocery store. I can stop myself from taking it for a while, then I just give in.”

The Atlanta Recovery Center Drug Rehab in Georgia receives many calls from people seeking help for substance abuse. But the number of calls received after a warning issued by Atlanta Recovery Center Drug Rehab on over-the-counter cold medicine was shocking.

“I was in charge of training 1,000 recruits,” stated another caller. “I was in the military and the amount of Coricidin abuse I saw was appalling. Trash cans are filled with empty Coricidin packets. The pharmacies in our area are always out of Coricidin and other cold relief products. The problem is that it is not an illegal drug, and won’t show up on any drug tests. The recruits ‘robotrip’ on Coricidin and don’t get caught.”

Prescription Pain Killers Associated with Rising Toll of Death.

Avoiding drug addiction begins with drug education.

“If people knew what drugs could be abused in their own medicine cabinet, they would be more careful of them,” comments Mary Rieser, Executive Director for The Atlanta Recovery Center. “Learn about the common types of prescription and over-the-counter medications that can be dangerous. Be safe. Don’t keep these around or unsupervised in your medicine cabinet.

This study also includes a review of home healthcare kits and devices that measure health-related conditions. Focus is on market dynamics and current market drivers of the OTC and home self-testing diagnostics market. This report also looks at the industry challenges and potential threats, and it makes strategic recommendations for boosting market share. The analysis covers healthcare-related devices that are designed for the home market in order to allow consumers to assess their health status through self-testing. In addition, this review examines some biowarfare detection systems. The emphasis in this report is on those companies and products that are actively developing and marketing diagnostic reagents and supplies in market segments that are targeted for direct sale to the public. It is believed that this market segment has the potential for growth rates above 15% per year over the next five years in some of the less well-explored and well-developed areas.

For a quick introduction to what I’m about to rant about, read this entry.

Ok, so after the last time I was shouted at in front of a shop full of people for being a drug addict, D and I have understandably avoided going to any branch of Boots unless it’s absolutely necessary.

Boots and Asda both sell very cheap antihistamines, which D needs cause he has crazy allergies which need continuous dealing-with (all verified by a real live doctor, no self-diagnosis happening here). Asda is a car journey away. Boots is a 5 minute walk away. So sometimes, Boots is where D gets his antihistamines.

Never again.

He went into our local branch of Boots earlier to buy painkillers for on-going dental work (that applies to both of us) and because I’m crap at remembering to reorder my prescriptions. Upon approaching the counter and ordering aspirin and codeine tablets, he was informed by the educationally-sub-normal 12 year-old behind the counter that since he was ‘in here buying painkillers every week’ he would have to be referred to the pharmacist.

The pharmacist did his best to look busy and hide until D actually called him over and explained that no, he wasn’t even in that branch once a week, never mind buying painkillers. The only time he goes in there is to buy antihistamines, and that isn’t even on a weekly basis cause we usually go to Asda and tend to get more than a week’s worth of antihistamines at a time. Hell, we almost never actually BUY painkillers from anywhere since I get them on prescription (which I do not get filled at Boots, for obvious reasons).

It seems that this is simply how the bottom-dwelling scum who work in Boots treat people. They accuse them of being (oh my god!) regular customers and while they manage to remember seeing a person in the shop more times that the person has actually been in the shop, they take wild artistic license with their accusations about what the person actually buys.

After D explained that the painkillers were for on-going dental work, the dumbfuck pharmacist told him to get painkillers from the dentist. Seriously. He then told him to go to his doctor about needing painkillers following dental work. Seriously.

Has anyone out there ever gone to their doctor and said “I’ve been having dental work done and need painkillers which I can easily buy in a shop, but I would like a prescription for them any way”? Exactly.

And following that steady stream of verbal crap was the condescending lecture that seems to flow like raw sewage from the mouths of the faulty robots who spend their days behind the counter of Boots, alienating their customers. Then he sold D a packet of paracetamol and codeine after some half-assed mumblings about aspirin. Cause the ASPIRIN is the issue.

ALL this was done at a great volume in the middle of a crowded shop. This approach seems to be company policy. Amusingly, Boots are currently running a TV advert about how many different kinds of painkillers they sell over-the-counter and how it’s not that women deal with pain better than men, they just remember to buy painkilers.

The advert actually shows a (weak pathetic forgetful useless) man with a headache and an office full of women handing him the huge range of painkillers they all kept in their desks.

Hypocritical bullshit motherfuckers. I have now ordered my repeat prescription and will never EVER be buying anything from any branch of Boots ever again. From now on, I would crawl over broken glass while listening to the soundtrack of High School Musical to get to a different chemist.

In honour of an astounding track record of hitting customer service rock bottom and keeping on digging, I would like to give a second Go Fuck Yourself award to Boots the chemist, staffed entirely by judgmental cunts who probably sit in the back room of the pharmacy during their lunch break feverishly masturbating over imaginary scenarios in which they reprimand people for wanting to spend money in their store.

And on special occasions, they make photo-fit pictures of what they imagine to be stereotypical drug seekers, roll up the pictures and fuck each other in the ass with them while gasping out the magic words…
“We…see…you…in…here…every…WEEEEEK!”.

Acquisto di un opzione call con strike zero;

AFRICAN AMERICAN SKIN CARE

Before discussing the aesthetics of Makeup Artistry, it is important we understand skincare and its role pertaining to makeup application. Healthy skin is key to a flawless makeup application. I had the privilege recently of speaking with Robin Townsend, a licensed Medical Esthetician with an extensive background, training and hands-on experience in clinical skin care. Ms. Townsend of Faces by Robin has an office in Kenwood serving the skin care needs of people of all colors, ethnicities and ages. She spent the last several years working with physicians in the Cincinnati area, providing skin care for many people, before recently, opening her own skin care business.

I asked Ms. Townsend to give me information specifically related to skin care concerns as they relate to African Americans. I will share much of what she related to me in this article:

Qiana: What are the most common skin care concerns that you have encountered when working with your clients that are African American?

Robin: Three of the most common skin care concerns relating to the African American population are acne, oily skin and hyper-pigmentation.

Qiana: Would you give my reader’s an overview of each of these areas of concern and what you would suggest as a means of addressing these skin care problems?

Robin: AA are just as concerned about acne as are Caucasians and they are equally likely to suffer from it. They are also just as likely to perceive their skin as excessively oily and therefore likely to over-treat it. Excess oil does not cause acne as long as it flows to the surface of the skin. If however, the sebaceous glands become clogged, blackheads result. Clogged glands can result from stress, hormones and even improper skin care. When acne appears, strong medicated soaps, strong astringents and other harsh drying products have generally been used to remove the impurities. The result is dehydrated skin that looks like dry skin. Cleansing creams that contain too much oil, cocoa butter-type creams and oil-based make-up are used to counteract the dryness, when moisture, not oil, is what the skin needs.

Stripping the skin of oils does not resolve the problem. It can even lead to even greater problems. And, in another few weeks another ‘breakout’ can appear. Because many AA do not know of all the benefits of exfoliants, these products are not used when they could be most effective. Regular professional skin care treatments along with a home regimen using exfoliants and recommended products, would help to normalize the skin. (This protocol would apply for both acneic and oily skin care concerns).

Hyper-pigmentation, (dark spots) or discolored areas are common problems among AA. There are many causes, including excessive sun exposure, allergic reaction to perfumes or medicines, irritation from abrasive scrubs or sponges, excessive rubbing or friction, or the healing pattern of the skin after a razor cut, insect bite, burn, squeezing a whitehead and so on. Most over-the-counter products would take months or years to lighten dark spots, but with professional skin care treatments plus professional-grade, daily home care products, the skin lightening process can speed up considerably if the proper steps are followed.

Daily care with three companion products is an important protocol for treating hyper-pigmentation and skin discolorations. The three products are the appropriate exfoliant, bleaching product and sunblock. Yes, AA need sunblock too!

Qiana: Do you offer these products at your business?

Robin: Yes, I do. I offer two medical grade skin care lines, along with various other speciality products and sunblocks. And, I offer medical grade chemical peels and manual exfoliation procedures. As well as basic deep-pore cleansing facials.

Qiana: Where is your skin care business located and what are your hours of operation?

Robin: I am located at The Salons@Kenwood Place. 8731 Kenwood Road. Suite #17 Cincinnati, Ohio 45236. My hours of operation are from 10:00 a.m. til 6:00 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Saturday from 10:00 a.m. til 3:00 p.m. By appointment only. Appointments may be made by calling (513) 807-3192.
Among other issues, the FDA challenged the claim on Progressive Emu’s Emuprofen that it does not cause the side effects that sometimes come with the oral medication. The other companies cited by the FDA are: Colorado-based Biocentric Laboratories, Wisconsin-based Core Products International, Florida-based Geromatrix Health Products, New Jersey-based MEKT LLC, and Texas-based Ridge Medical Products.

Nyinahin Mining Concession near Bibiani, Ghana, West Africa

The Company
SUNERGY, Inc.(OTCBB: SNEY) is a fully reporting, publicly listed and traded, production oriented junior mining company engaged in the evaluation, acquisition, exploration, planned operation and advancement of gold/silver/diamond development

The Project
Nyinahin Mining Concession
Effective October 31, 2008, Sunergy completed the acquisition of 100% interest in Mikite Gold Resources (“Mikite”), a Ghanaian corporation with exclusive exploration rights to the Nyinahin Mining Concession near Bibiani, Ghana. The Mineral rights are for gold, diamonds and base metals.
The 150 square kilometer Nyinahin mining concession is located between two geological gold belts, the Bibiani Belt to the west and the Asankrangwa to the east. The property shares borders with several major mining companies, including Newmont Mining, Napoli Gold and Dunkwa Continental Goldfields. The district is home to the famous Ashanti Goldfields-Obuasi Mines and is one of the most active exploratory areas in the world.
A preliminary survey by Geodita Resources LTD, Ghana, indicates that the Nyinahin Concession has significant potential for gold mineralization and for recovery of alluvial gold. There are 3 major anomalous zones: Owusbukurom anomaly in the center Ntoboroso anomaly in the southeast and the Krakyekurom anomaly in the southwest. There are 4 known mineralized trends: Baaneekurom-Nyinahin, Ntoboroso, Owusukurom-Adupiri and Krakyekurom-Adupiri. The reconnaissance has also shown several abandoned surface mines that are yet to be investigated due to time and budget constraints of the current owners.
Location and Access
About 80% of the Nyinahin Concession lies to the west of the Offin River within the Ashanti Region of Ghana The property is accessed via the main Kumasi-Bibiani trunk road and is located 48km southwest of Kumsasi and 20km northwest of Bibiani. Adequate ground water appears to be available for diversion for future mining operations. Electrical power is sup[plied by the National Grid and Infrastructure facilities are available within the concession from notable towns which include Nyinahin, Akorabuokurom, Baaneekurom, Nagore and Ntoboroso.
Evidence of past exploration and mining activities exist in the form of pits and adits. There is a strong clustering of artisan pits located along the Offin River. Three old gold prospects exist on the concession. The first is located about 2.0 km SE of the village of Akorabuokurom and 3km from the village of Otaakurom, the second 1.8km SW of to the east of the concession, whilst the third is located along the south eastern boundary near the village of Owuokurom. Fragments of phyllite, greywacke and quartz are noted in the spoils of these pits.
A systematic exploration program was initiated in July 2005. The work consisted of active stream sediment sampling and geological mapping. Application to the Minerals Commission in Ghana upgraded this 150 sq. km. Nyhinahin mineral concession from a reconnaissance license to a full prospecting license.

Why Ghana
We believe the country is an attractive location due to its stability and it history (Former British Colony independent since 1957. There are favourable mining laws and recently numerous major gold producers have begun defining what we believe will become one of the world’s most prolific gold belts.

The Opportunity
SNEY will begin a gold purchasing program from the artisan’s already working on the concessions; coupled with an oxide mineralization exploration and development plan designed to result in oxide gold recovery through gravity/wash plant operations on concession areas. The Artisans typically recover about 30% of the available gold using crude methods by hand. Modern mechanized methods are able to recover an additional 60% at the rate of 200 tons/hour. There is good harmony in working with the locals, rather than putting them out of work.
The purchasing program from the locals will be immediately profitable with profits initially being contributed to the development of alluvial production equipment and operations..
SNEY will purchase gravity/wash plant(s) and a field smelting facility to further recovery after the Artisan hand operations recover the initial gold. Once profitable, SNEY will reserve 60% of the gold recovered .to guarantee anticipated future Gold Debenture financing for growth through acquisition of profitable targeted gold recovery operations.
Additional Oxide Gold production opportunities are available in other concessions through acquisition or Joint Venture.

Timing
Within 45 days of funding, SNEY will start it’s Gold Buying Program. Within 90 days of funding, SNEY will begin mechanized gold recovery operations on the already previously worked Artisan pits along the Offin river. The operation is profitable from day one because the initial gold is bought at a subatantial discount and the cash cost of mechanized gold recovery will be less than $300/ ounce.

Business Strategy / Budgets / Use of Funds
The following activities with budgeted costs are recommended to move the Nyinahin Mining Concession toward production.

Financial Summary
Sunergy has several former producing mines and numerous Artisan pits along the Offin River which will be worked for the 60+% of the gold left behind by the Artisans. With the initial purchase of a gravity/wash plant we will begin in Quarter 2 of 2009 at an initial rate of 2,000 – 3,000 ounces per month stabilizing @ 3,000/ month over quarter 3 and 4 for the first year. Once stabilized, the Company will add 1 gravity/wash plant during Quarter 1 and 2 in each of the next two years increasing production by 36,000 ounces per year for each plant. The Company anticipates growing annual production to over 100,000 oz/year which results in projected earnings of $30,000,000 - $40,000,000per year.

Summary of Investment Opportunity Operations
Given the successful transition to a precious metals producer the additional significant upside anticipated by management will be achieved by successfully utilizing the profits generated by the concessions to build shareholder value through becoming a mid-tier producer; entering a niche in the industry recently vacated by other companies through merger or acquisition by larger companies which brought enormous gains to their shareholders. This growth occurs through expanding reserves and resources in properties where the company’s operational and developmental expertise is used to build shareholder and operational value. Historically, it is not uncommon for mid tier precious metal producers to be trading at 40 to 100 times earnings.

Spot Price of Gold and Silver
Gold and Silver have been in a seven year bull market taking gold and silver prices to all time high’s in recent times. Management believes that macro economic conditions domestically and internationally are likely to keep prices at current levels and very likely take them to after inflation highs or higher for gold and silver. Gold’s after inflation equivalent to its 1981 high is over $2,000 per ounce. Continued rising spot prices increased return opportunities at every level along the way.

Yesterday I wrote about the growing problem of children getting accidentally ingesting medications,

Yesterday I wrote about the growing problem of children getting accidentally ingesting medications, which is a leading cause of poisoning among children. There is another medication-related problem that gets little attention in this country: the sharing of prescriptions drugs among teens. About 20% of American teens admit to the practice, says a new study in the Journal of Adolescent Health. One might expect that teens are sharing prescription painkillers with one another — and they are — but they are also sharing a number of other drugs like antibiotics, acne medications, and allergy drugs, among others.

The majority of teens surveyed said they shared or received prescription drugs to avoid a visit with a doctor, but a third ended up going to a doctor eventually anyway. That means two-thirds never saw a doctor, but were taking prescription drugs. Aside from being illegal, this activity is potentially dangerous on several levels. For one, the teens may not be aware of interactions or allergies associated with specific prescription drugs. Even a seemingly innocuous drug like Accutane for acne (which is a commonly prescribed drug among teens) can have serious adverse consequences if misused; it has been linked to birth defects when taken by pregnant women. Additionally, misuse of antibiotics is responsible for the ascension of resistant strains of bacteria.

Apparently, the problem is not entirely contained to teens. Studies have shown that about 40% of adults engage in the practice too. Something should be done to discourage this activity. Stronger warnings on prescription drug labels could help. Also, having doctors explain to patients the dangers of sharing meds makes sense too. Beyond that, efforts to expand health coverage could really put a damper on this, as the majority of teens are borrowing medications to avoid doctor visits. If more people had access to doctors and prescription drug coverage, I’d suspect that the number of people borrowing drugs would drop.

Prescription drug (abbreviated with the symbol ℞): a drug that is available only with written instructions from a doctor or dentist to a pharmacist.

Over-the-Counter Medicines (Non-prescription drugs, OTC medicines): drugs you can buy without a prescription. In the United States, the Food and Drug Administration decides whether a medicine is safe enough to sell over-the-counter.

Switches between prescription and OTC

As a general rule, over-the-counter drugs have to be primarily used to treat a condition that does not require the direct supervision of a doctor and must be proven to be reasonably safe and well-tolerated. OTC drugs are usually also required to have little or no abuse potential, although in some areas drugs such as codeine are available OTC.

Over time, drugs that prove themselves safe and appropriate for self-medication, may be switched from prescription to OTC. An example of this is diphenhydramine which once required a prescription but now is available OTC nearly everywhere.

It is somewhat unusual for an OTC drug to be withdrawn from the market as a result of safety concerns, rather than market forces, though it does happen occasionally, phenylpropanolamine being one example.

Upon detecting a security concern, the light flashes red, and MagShoe sounds its built-in alarm, displaying the results on its control console. This multi-sensory alert system ensures immediate response times, even in loud and crowded screening areas such as busy airports or noisy stadiums.

Finally: a complete solution for homeland security and loss prevention

Today’s security solutions are missing a critical step when it comes to weapons detection and loss prevention. Traditional metal detectors and security screening devices stop short of detecting metals in shoes or on the ankles and feet. This creates a major security gap everywhere from airports and stadiums, to retail shops and jewelry stores.

Following the tragic attacks of September 11 and subsequent shoebomber incident, IDO Security recognized an urgent need to address this void. The current “workaround” of removing shoes before passing through metal detectors is cumbersome, inconvenient and worst of all, inaccurate – creating long delays, discomfort and frustration, without fully allaying security concerns.

Working closely with the ISA (Israeli Security Agency), IDO Security developed a patented technology to change security…from the bottom up. Our flagship solution, MagShoe™, offers a convenient step-in device that extends security screening and metal detection to include the ankles and feet, without requiring shoe removal.

Whether you’re ensuring the safety of employees or customers, passengers or partygoers, MagShoe is ideal for use by:

Just When You Thought It Was Safe…

Some of you may have heard the latest news about drugs containing Acetaminophen, the active ingredient in Tylenol and literally hundreds of other products. A panel of doctors who advise the FDA have recommended a significant reduction in the allowable daily dosage of these medications. Why? Because these drugs are the leading cause of liver failure in the US and are responsible for sending 56,000 people to the hospital each year. Of those people at least 200 die every year. For years I have told my staff that chiropractic saves lives by getting people off drugs and improving the functioning of their nervous systems. This is just one very stark reminder of that fact.

This is just one drug. Think of the hundreds, even thousands, of other drugs that have equally, if not greater, potential for harm. Unfortunately, because these drugs net billions per year, and the FDA is strongly influenced by the pharmaceutical lobby, they will likely continue on the market. What is the FDA doing? They are simply reducing the maximum dosage from 1000mg to a lower amount. This is a rather sad and pathetic effort on their part to protect the public from significant potential harm. I thought you should know about this. By the way, the other popular choice for people in pain is the NSAID drugs like ibuprofen, aspirin, Ascriptin, Aleve, etc. These drugs cause tens of thousands of deaths each year due to stomach ulcers that perforate and cause people to bleed to death internally- also not a good way to go.

I think we can do better, and I think you can do better. To read the full story click here!

The recession and slower sales may prompt many small business owners and self-employed professionals

The recession and slower sales may prompt many small business owners and self-employed professionals to go to work if they have flu symptoms. In a downturn, going to the office and ‘working through the pain’ may not be the smart business move according to one health expert. Dr. Mary Capelli-Schellpfeffer, medical director of Loyola University Health System Occupational Health Services, advises people who come to work sick are more likely to hinder than help their company.

“An organization can be severely impacted by people coming to work when they’re sick. We know illness can spread from person to person causing entire work groups to be impacted. But less obvious is how job performance, organization, productivity, creativity and financial stability can all be affected,” said Capelli-Schellpfeffer.

People often think because they wash their hands or take over-the-counter medications, they aren’t spreading the illness. Not so.

“Just being in a room and breathing when a person is sick can spread the illness not to mention coughing and sneezing. If you’re sick you shouldn’t’t be in the workplace. It interrupts business and puts others at risk of infection,” said Capelli-Schellpfeffer.

Sickness can interrupt productivity by creating a distraction and causing both the infected person and coworkers to focus on the illness instead of their jobs. It also blurs the lines between personal and professional lives and relationships.

“It’s good for people to feel like a team and care about each other, but it’s not healthy for people to be invasive of each other’s privacy, including their medical privacy,” said Capelli-Schellpfeffer. “It disrupts the interactions of the team and can be corrosive, even setting the stage for future judgments, misunderstandings and biases.”

To ensure an environment of wellness and productivity, managers need to keep an open dialogue with employees about attendance policies and sick days according to Capelli- Schellpfeffer.

“Encourage employees who are sick to use their sick time. Many don’t know they have it because they’ve never had to use it,” said Capelli-Schellpfeffer. “Make sure to plan ahead so if you have a deadline there are procedures in place – like how to work from home. By making small changes and preparing for illness we can protect each other and our businesses.”

If someone in the workplace has been sick Capelli-Schellpfeffer offers these common sense, but often forgotten, tips to limit the spread of illness:

1. Wipe down all surfaces, especially shared surfaces such as copy machines.
2. Let space be your friend: Having 6-8 feet between you and a sick person can reduce the chance you too will become sick.
3. Keep food and beverages away from work areas of sick employees, including offices and cubicles.
4. Implement a wellness agenda that includes an annual flu shot.

“While news cycles and the public’s attention span about the flu rises and wanes, the flu is not going away and most likely will only get worse this fall,” said Capelli-Schellpfeffer. “Though there is a cost involved in promoting wellness, it is small in comparison to the pricey hit companies take when their workforce is impaired by illness. A flu shot program is an investment that yields big returns for businesses.”

OVer the counter tattoo removal – is this really, well, REAL? Yes: that’s exactly the idea behind tattoo removal creams. They are an over the counter product you can buy without ever seeing a doctor, without needing a prescription, in order to get rid of a tattoo you just do not want any longer. This do it yourself remedy is applied topically the skin – after X amount of treatments (depending on your tattoo), it will fade the ink until it’s gone. Note that this tends to work best on older, cheaper tattoos versus new, nicer tattoos with good inks.
