Over the years Paramore has gained a lot of popularity. Most of that popularity comes from some of the band’s songs that are played over and over again. I personally don’t hate that they’ve become popular because of these overrated songs listed below, I just hate there are song that are just as good as the others that remain under the radar.

Below is my mini list of overrated and underrated Paramore song. I don’t hate any of the songs. I love pretty much every Paramore song considering they’re my favorite band. I hope this little post persuades you to go out and listen to some of the underrated songs if you’ve never heard any of them.

Overrated PARAMORE Songs

1. Misery Business

If I hear this song again I just may blow chunks. There was a point when I loved this song and it was practically all I played on my iPod, but now I’m just like, “WHY THE EFF I’M I LISTENING TO THIS?”. “Misery Business” is such a great song because it’s created off raw emotions and a lot of people can relate but now it’s to the point where too many people relate. Teenage mainstream chicks ruin this song and now I can’t bare to listen to it. Although I still have my moments when I listen to this song.

2. Decoy

“Decoy” is amazing. It’s a bonus track that has become a Paramore anthem. This song clearly had to be good to go from a B-Side to a set in a Paramore show. I guess where I’m trying to get at is that is so more popular than other really good songs on actually records from the band that overrated.

3. Decode

It’s truly not a bad song but its not the typical high quality Paramore song and that’s what gets me. Twilighters made this song what it is. If this song wasn’t the cover song for Twilight neither this song nor Paramore would be as popular as they are today. I guess it’s a good and bad thing.

4. CrushCrushCrush

5. The Only Exception

Underrated PARAMORE Songs

1. Conspiracy

This was the FIRST Paramore song and that should mean something, but of course it doesn’t. I never hear Paramore fans mention this song unless they’re one of those hardcore fans that waste their time talking about the band on the internet, kind of like me. “Conspiracy” doesn’t have that typical punk sound that Paramore has but it still has great value. I feel like people skip right over the song when they hear the slow opening.

2. I Caught Myself

Don’t neglect this song just because it’s from Twilight. “I Caught Myself” is so beautifully written. Being the Twilighter that I am/was I would know. This song is like the quintessence of the book New Moon would sound like if it was a song. People couldn’t escape “Decode” because it was all over the place while “I Caught Myself” was kind of behind the scenes unless you actually listened to the movies soundtrack. Everyone should give this song a chance, especially on a winter day (if you heard the song you’d understand).

3. Playing God

Hayley Williams is one of those singers that appear to have faith and the make songs like this or “Careful” that contradicts some of that faith. I personally don’t care because either way she still spits out a good song. Beside “Ignorance” and “Where The Lines Overlap” this song had been my original favorite from the Brand New Eyes record. The first two songs were pretty much viral all throughout 2009 because they played the new songs live at their shows. “Playing God” shows the rough, disturbed side of Hayley that people try to stay away from. Maybe that’s why the song is so underrated or maybe because the video seemed like a creep, post The Fame Monster, Lady Gaga video.

4. All I Wanted

This song just shows raw talent. The moment at the end of the song when all the music stops and Hayley sings “ALL I WANTED”. The song defends itself. If you just listen to it you’ll probably be like, “WHY THE HECK haven’t I heard of this?”.

5. Miracle

6. Fences

7. Born For This

P.S. There are plenty more songs I’d like to mention but I limited myself to released songs only. There’s loads of great unreleased Paramore tracks that exceed people’s thoughts.

P.S.S. The post title comes from an unreleased track called “Stay Away”.

Where I live we only have two good radio stations (Translation: stations that play current music or play music outside of crappy soft rock and overdone Madonna songs). Because of these circumstances all of the youth and young adults that live where I live are forced to fluctuate between these two stations (because who really wants to listen to wack soft rock). The problem with these two statons play like the same three songs, yes they are current, but 8 of 10 times these three rotating songs tend to be overrated and annoying. So imagine how terrible it is when these two stations play the same song over and over again especially when the song sucks and your only other option is crappy soft rock stations. Don’t get me wrong there are times of the year when the music is somewhat good and listening to the radio is actually helpful but there are times of the year when the music just plain sucks and summer is sucky music ‘s prime time.

Summer a time when you can kick back an relax to the warm weather and hang out with friend and possibly meet new ones, but summer is also the time for bad overplayed summer songs by deadbeat one hit wonders or artist that won’t go away. First when summer comes the groundhog of music, Sean Kingston, shoots up out of his hole to release a faux- reggae, Jafakin’ hip-pop piece of crap, no thought put into monstrosity of a cliche song that apparently becomes a smash hit every time. What the crap?! I thought ”Beautiful Girls” and “Take You There” would be the end of the torture but no, the cream puff made a new song for me to barf off of, “Fire Burning”. I would like to make a bet some to see how much Sean Kingston repeats the same line over and over again. The lyricism is absolutely terrible by overdoing the “Fire Burning” metaphor in every line that I painfully listen to. A word of advise for Sean Kingston, before you start making anymore music 1) Lose some weight 2) Make songs that actually mean something to the world. For now I’m longing for winter when the world is free of Sean Kingston.

Another one who is on my musical “hate list” is Jeremih (or whatever his name is), the man who brought the world “Birthday Sex”, which is probaly even worse than “Fire Burning”. One thing I really hate is a song without a real point or message and “Birthday Sex” is one of them. It about this guy who has sex with his girlfriend on her birthday, how creative given that almost half the songs out are about sex, but Jeremih had to make it painfully blunt. Generally I don’t mind songs about sex (music is self- expression deal with it) because most of are creative with lyricism and good composition and there is somewhat of a point that made you actually want to listen despite the sexuality (ie Prince’s “Darling Nicki”) , but ”Birthday Sex” just straight up puts it all out there (you can tell with the title) with no creativity to make it good. Instead it uses the “Girl you know I,I,I” hook that every R&B song seems to have nowadays (that hook was best with the people who thought of it first), the chorus is just him repeating “birthday sex” over and over, which just says to me that there was absolutely no thought put into this song.

You know I would get around crapping on Miley Cyrus’ life somewhere in this entry, but just hate it when they play her crappy song that promotes her crappy movie that is apart of a muli- million dollar brainwash of America’s preteens. The Climbs is about her so called “hardships” she had to face. Miley, reality check, you are the highest paid child star your dad is “Achey Breakey Heart” man who basically got Disney to even know you existed. There are people who been though more issues in the tip of their pinky than you have in your whole body. Jennifer Hudson lost her whole family to a phyco maniac and Eminem father abandoned him and his family as a child. Not the mention all the people around the world who have more issues than you do. What’s your excuse? I just flat out hate the song because I flat out hate Miley Cyrus and her fake singing self.

My point is that summer seem to be a haven for mediocre to just plain bad songs that top the charts anyway. People just because you are on break it doesn’t mean your musical standards should. Radio stations, play songs that play artist that are actually good. This just makes me think why did God have to take MJ when he could have taken Miley Cyrus, Sean Kingston, and other bull crap artists. I can go on forever with all the crappy songs this summer so I made a musical hate list.

Hate List

1. Sugar- Flo Rida (really?)

2. Poker Face- Lady Gaga (this crap?)

3. I Know You You Want Me- Pitbull (you could have done so much better)

4. Boyfriend #2- Pleasure P

The Good Guys

There are always the songs that rise from the ashes

1. Ego- Beyonce

2. You Belong With Me- Taylor Swift

3. Goodbye- Kristina DeBarge

4. Chillin’ -Wale

5. Always Strapped- Bridman

6. So Fine- Sean Paul

7. Waking Up In Vegas- Katy Perry

8. Thats Not My Name- The Ting Tings

9. The Wind Blows- All-American Rejects
