I’ve decided to register as an overseas (absentee) voter, encouraged by this article.

But I’ll have to go through a series of 1. mailing my registration form to the States 2. receiving blank ballot back 3. filling the ballot 4. and send it back to the States for one last time.

I have to admit it’s quite inconvenient. I’m lucky not to be busy, because if I had a full-time job, the complicated process could have really put me off. And you have to consider the shipping fee. Why doesn’t the government just allow expats or overseas US citizens go vote at the nearest US Embassy? Or here in Korea, the Yongsan base could serve as good place.

It feels really strange. After living more than 10 years in Korea, I feel like a “genuine US citizen” more than ever. Why does this sound so very funny?
