The Pool Wizard is a fully patented water sanitising unit that ensures a clean healthy pool without the use of large doses of chlorine and has been used with confidence by pool owners since 1983. (See Advantages)

The Pool Wizard consists of a metallic reactivator electrode and water soluble mineral compounds housed in a plastic casing. The active compounds contain complexed copper, silver and zinc which attack and destroy algae, bacteria, fungus and similar single celled organisms in the water.

The Pool Wizard is placed in the leaf trap or skimmer basket and the water soluble compounds dissolve out, to be dispersed in the pool. These compounds destroy the foreign substances in the water and are rejuvenated as they pass through the unit in the leaf trap.

The Pool Wizard is not affected by the sun’s UV rays or heat. The active elements are not absorbed through the skin, nor do they break down or dissipate while disinfecting the water. They are , however, lost through backwashing and splash out and therefore need to be replenished every 7-12 months to maintain a sparkling, worry-free pool.

Research has clearly shown the effectiveness of both silver and copper in destroying unicellular organisms such as bacteria, viruses and algae. Silver has been used for medicinal purposes and to keep liquids fresh for centuries. The use of copper to destroy algae and bacteria is well-known and widespread.

Chlorine, on the other hand, breaks down rapidly and is intolerant of pH fluctuations and UV light. The use of chlorine also results in by-products (chloramines, chlorinated hydrocarbons) proven to be harmful to our health and our environment.

The Pool Wizard was scientifically developed to not only reduce chlorine consumption ( by up to 75%), but to ensure clean, pure pool water. A chlorine concentration of 0.5ppm is recommended for a Pool Wizard pool. The Pool Wizard not only meets the health requirements for pool water, it even surpasses the global criteria for drinking water.

As noted above, the advantages of using a Pool Wizard are manifold.

Below is some research supporting the effectiveness of the copper-silver system of sanitisation used by the Pool Wizard:

“Legionella pneumophila, which causes the lethal Legionaire’s Disease and which can be present in public waters, was killed approximately 100 times faster when 0.20ppm of copper and 0.02ppm of silver were added to 0.20ppm of chlorine as compared to the use of chlorine itself. Legionella is very resistant to even higher levels of chlorine.” (Professor Charles P. Gerba, Department of Microbiology, University of Arizona)

“Two different chemicals added together may allow more efficient disinfection kinetics to be achieved. One substance targets the surface of a micro-organism killing and injuring the cells while a second substance targets the nucleic acid of the micro-organism destroying the remaining injured micro-organisms. By using this method of dual disinfection, reduced levels of both substances may be more effective than much higher levels of either individual substance.” (G.R. Taylor, Surrey University)

“0.10ppm of chlorine is very effective in treating a pool when there are copper and silver ions present in the pool.” ( University of Arizona)

“Thanks to eye-opening research, silver is emerging as a wonder of modern medicine. An antibiotic kills perhaps a half dozen different disease organisms but silver kills some 650. Moreover, silver is virtually non-toxic. Dr. Harry Margraf of St. Louis, a pioneering silver researcher, says: ‘Silver is the best all around germ fighter we have.’ ” (“Our Mightiest Germ Fighter”; Science Digest, March 1978)

“The value of silver in medicine, and as a purifier has been acknowledged for centuries. Egyptians implanted silver plates into skulls with surgery. In Ancient Greece and Rome, people used silver containers to keep liquids fresh. When settlers moved across the American West, they would purify a container of water by putting a silver dollar in it overnight. Towards the end of the 19th century, other medicinal uses for silver were developed including the use of silver and mercury in filling cavities, and the dropping of a silver filtrate solution into the eyes of newborn babies to prevent blindness due to infection.” (Dr. Harry Margraf, “The Story of Silver in Medicine”; Gold & Silver Newsletter, September 1974)

“Scores of independent tests have shown that silver promptly kills bacteria in water and maintains water purity over long periods of time.” (“Tests Show Silver Best Water Purifier”; The Silver Institute Letter, December 1976)

Both NASA and the Soviet space program use copper-silver systems to purify and recycle drinking water on their space missions. (“Winged-Ferry to Shuttle Between Earth and Space”; The Silver Institute Letter March 1976)

“The most dramatic purification tests occurred in 1976 in a 20,000 gallon swimming pool in Nebraska. There was no disinfectant of any kind in the water. Fifty gallons of municipal sewage waste water was put into the pool. That produced a dangerous concentration of 7,000 E.Coli cells per 100 millilitre [half a cup] of water. Contents of the pool were then pumped through a tank containing silver for disinfection. Within three hours the pool was entirely free of E.Coli and the water contained only 3.2 parts of silver per billion parts of water (0.0032ppm). (“Silver Guards Good Health:’; The Silver Institute Letter, May 1975)

“The Allegheny County Health Department in Pennsylvania conducted tests in a 152,000 gallon pool which previously had been disinfected by a 50 pounds per day chlorinator. The system was replaced by a silver system for the swimming pool season. The County Health Department took up to 50 daily samples and found that silver ions remained in the pool at the low steady rate of 20 parts per billion (0.02ppm). The water remained free of bacteria throughout two seasons. In contrast, 65 water samples from 30 other pools having a concentration of 700 parts per billion (0.7ppm) of available chlorine showed a mean of 1.3 pseudomonas and 7.3 staph cells per millilitre of water.” (“Silver Carbon Filter Purifies Swimming Pool”; The Silver Institute Letter, May 1973)

“Silver-copper systems are capable of inactivating enteric viruses such as the polio virus in the presence or absence of free chlorine, which should be useful in the control of these agents in swimming pools.” (Professor Charles P. Gerba, Department of Microbiology, University of Arizona)

“The silver-copper treatment has resulted in far healthier animals with healthier skin, and small scratches and abrasions that under chlorine did not heal well now heal more rapidly; most important, eye problems are markedly reduced.” (Judy Tuttle, Supervisor of the San Antonio Children’s Zoo)

Try this one,” a reader writes. “I have this pool with a customer who refuses chlorine a

Try this one,” a reader writes. “I have this pool with a customer who refuses chlorine and has spent over $20,000 upgrading for an ozonator. There’s black algae growing in the grout. I brush it with a wire brush every week. It keeps coming back. When the customer is out of town, I throw in 2-3 pounds of dichlor. When she’s there, I visit 3 times per week and add 25 small bromine tabs for each day.

“Water is about 6 months old. pH is low … total alkalinity is 100 ppm … calcium is high. Filter and pump are a couple of years old. Filtration is not the problem. Black algae in the grout is the problem. Any reasonable suggestions? My only thought is to remove the grout where necessary and replace.”

Let’s start out by saying that brushing once a week is not going to get rid of a stubborn black algae bloom. By its very nature, black algae is resistant to chemicals and will only die after sufficient “poison” is allowed to penetrate the plant’s roots. This means superchlor-ination and brushing … and brushing … and brushing some more.

Ozone will not prevent algae. You must have a halogen (chlorine or bromine) residual in the water to prevent algae. But once you have a bloom — particularly a black algae bloom — you must use heroic means to get rid of it.

What you are doing now by weekly brushing is simply “mowing the lawn.” You are removing the top layer of algae but are doing nothing to the roots or the spores from which algae grows. When you return, the algae has re-established its toehold in the grout, and you are back to square one.

When confronted with an algae bloom, the first answer is to superchlo-rinate and follow that up with vigorous — and frequent — brushing. We’re talking daily brushing; the more the better.

To superchlorinate, bring the level of free available chlorine up to between 5 and 10 parts per million, and maintain that level for at least 4 hours.

Vigorous brushing will pull the algae out by the roots and will expose all of it to the chlorine, instead of just the top layer. Also, brushing will remove the slime layer that forms on top of the algae as a defense mechanism and protects it from chemical invasion.

The filter should should be run 24 hours a day while you wage your war on algae.

Once it disappears, don’t take it for granted that it has all been killed. Even though the algae can’t be seen, there are still plenty of algae spores just waiting to start a new bloom. Algae reproduces by cell division, doubling in number every few minutes. So in a couple of hours, one algae cell can become literally millions. And in a week’s time, billions and billions of cells could be present.

That is why brushing must be kept up well after you think that all the algae has been killed. Experts advise that the routine be continued for a week to 10 days after the algae disappears. Simply continue to treat the affected area as if the algae were still there. Keep brushing, running the filter and treating with chemicals.

As for the filter, make sure that it has been cleaned or backwashed and that there is good flow to the entire pool. You want the chemical-laden water to reach every single nook and cranny. A “blind spot” in circulation can lead to an algae bloom in that portion of the pool.

This explains why some pools seem to be more prone to algae attack than others: The pool’s hydraulics may not be best for proper circulation. Nevertheless, as the service professional, the problem is yours.

You can make up for hydraulic deficiencies by more brushing, more vacuuming and possibly making hydraulic improvements, such as directional return fittings or diverter valves that can properly balance the suction between the skimmer and main drain and the return lines.

You can also treat the problem by applying chlorine granules directly to the algae areas or rubbing the area with a trichlor tab. There are tools designed specifically for this purpose. Chlorine is a highly effective spot algicide.

You might also try placing a chlorine tab in a plastic bag, cutting a few holes in the bag and hanging it in the water near the algae-affected area. Don’t do this in a vinyl pool or near any surface that can be bleached by the chlorine.

Finally, purchase an algicide that is especially designed to fight black algae. You may have to do some testing until you find the one that meets your specific needs, but as far as we know, there is no strain of algae that is totally immune to chlorine and all commercial algicides.

Make note of the type of algicide you are using until you find one that works for you. Remember: there are several different “families” of algicide out there, and not every one will work in every situation.

A University of Utah engineer has developed an inexpensive new method to remove oil sheen by repeatedly pressurizing and depressurizing ozone gas, creating microscopic bubbles that attack the oil so it can be removed by sand filters, according to a Nov. 15 press release.

“We are not trying to treat the entire hydrocarbon [oil] content in the water – to turn it into carbon dioxide and water – but we are converting it into a form that can be retained by sand filtration, which is a conventional and economical process,” says Andy Hong, a professor of civil and environmental engineering. More…

Welcome to the first blog, I hope that you’ll enjoy whatever I have to say, whether it be about personal news, engineering news or rants and whatnot. I will be updating this as I go along with my career and everything else.

Good news in the fact that I will be recording a band full of really cool guys who have a sound similar to Alice in Chains which is one of my all time favorite bands ^_^.

Fan to Flame is their name, check them out and tell them Josh sent you if they ask .

It seems I will have Arlyn studios to myself for a weekend since everyone else will be gone for thanksgiving and we can hopefully record this album in a day! I know these guys can do it as do they. We all share the same views for how this album should sound and what needs to happen in order for that to flourish which is a great thing in the studio world, everyone must have a goal and must be willing to work together to achieve a great product and have a great time creating the product.

Nov 28th and 29th are the scheduled days for our sessions, the plan goes as follows:

I was down at the Sick & Wrong HQ last week to pick up my new Sick and Wrong sponsored Ozone FLX 2. It was great to see Steve Giles again. We had spoken by phone several times, but the last time I had seen him was after he dropped Remo Neiderer from his tandem during the Lake Charity Classic the previous year. I am really happy to be involved with the S&W guys. It is always a friendly atmoshpere in the shop and I feel really happy to be sponsored by such a friendly, dynamic team.

It is fair to say we are in the middle of some rubbish weather right now. Slow moving low pressure sitting to the North of us with another deepening Atlantic low waiting to take it’s place. This has not given me much to look forward to other than more rain and high winds.. well it is the UK! I managed a really small soaring flight on my FLX2 which was great! I was so impatient to fly it, I didn’t even sort out the symmetry on the brakes! I just jumped on it and soared for an hour and a half on a local hill close to my house. I am feeling really excited about doing some big winter hill climbs this year. I need to slowly get myself back into the swing of flying acro. I haven’t flown acro since May so I am seriously out of practice.

Adam and I have been invited to do a talk about Paragliding aerobatics down at the Northumbrian Club night and then the next evening we will be doing a talk for the Cumbrian club. Our aim is to discuss learning acro in the UK and the difficulties this presents to pilots wanting to progress in this discipline. Being stuck in the UK and being time poor presents its own set of dificulties and we want to discuss this in a bit of detail. Of course we will give a good overview of the discipline of Acro from its beginings to where it is now - the inventors, the pioneers, some videos and I will take an acro harness and paraglider down to show the other pilots the equipment we fly with.. this will probably be followed by a Q&A session on why Adam won’t get on a plane and why Zebur has given up his day job as a crime fighter! I think it will be good!

Best Regards, Terry

Invented

The oldest known pool dates back more than 4,000 years to the Mohenjo-Daro archeological site of the Indus Valley Civilization. At this archeological site, a pool was unearthed that measured 12 meters long and came complete with an advanced tar-based sealant. Innumerable remnants of swimming pools can also be found in the ruins of ancient Greek and Roman cities. Reportedly, the Greeks and Romans used pools to train athletes and soldiers, in addition to their serving as social gathering spaces. The first heated swimming pool was built by Gaius Maecenas of 1st century B.C .Rome.

Evolution

Many ancient pools were created simply as bath houses for the wealthy, often featuring elaborate marble sculpting and open-air designs. In the modern era, however, the British in the 19th century began to pioneer the use of pools for competitive and recreational swimming. As such, the 1896 Olympic Games were the first to include competitive swimming. In 1907, above-ground swimming pools were developed and the first oceanliner to sail with swimming pools followed shortly thereafter. With the end of World War II, private backyard swimming pools began to become more widespread.

Type

Swimming pools come in a variety of forms. Private pools probably constitute the most widespread type and can be found anywhere from Manhattan rooftops to suburban neighborhoods. Public pools–usually larger than private ones–are also common and can be found in local gyms, neighborhood associations and water parks. Competition pools such as the international Olympic pool have strict design regulations and are employed in the field of competitive swimming. Hot tubs and spa pools are also sometimes included in the pool category. Ocean pools, mostly found in Australia, are not common in other parts of the world.

Features

Pools have different features based on their differing purposes. Some pools are shallower than others for competition or recreational purposes, while deeper pools feature diving capabilities. Other features include heated water for comfort and relaxation, artificial waves to help in athletic training and lane lines for competition. Pool water everywhere around the world must have filters and be treated with chemicals such as chlorine, bromine or mineral sanitizers in order to prevent algae, bacteria, viruses and even insect larvae.

Significance

Swimming pools can be found in almost every country throughout the world, even some of the smallest. New Zealand, for instance, boasts almost 200,000 total swimming pools for its approximately 4 million people, making it the leader in pools per capita. The social significance of swimming pools has, since ancient times, been central to their reason for being. As promoters of social harmony through competition, public socializing and recreation, swimming pools are an oft-unnoticed facet of a successful civilization.

Originally Written By: McCabe, Ed

Mr. Ed McCabe is an investigative journalist and leading expert on the subject of oxygen therapies for degenerative disease. During his investigation and research into the subject, he has visited many oxygen therapy clinics throughout the world, interviewing doctors who administer oxygen therapy, and thousands of people who have successfully used it. He is the founder and executive director of the Foundation for the Advancement of Oxygen Therapies, an organization dedicated to research and education. He writes a syndicated newspaper column and national magazine articles. His bestselling book, Oxygen Therapies, is now in its 32nd printing, and has sold over 90,000 copies. It describes all known ways of using special forms of oxygen in the body to maintain health and treat disease. His new book is called Ozone Versus AIDS.

In my book, Oxygen Therapies, I list about 30 or 40 different oxygen therapies: hydrogen peroxide, ozone, Homozone, stabilized oxygen products, deep breathing, yoga, and pranic exercises. It goes all the way from free to very expensive in a clinic somewhere. But somewhere in between you can find something. Every single person can benefit.

HYDROGEN PEROXIDE

The most common oxygen therapy is hydrogen peroxide. The hydrogen peroxide that is used is not the kind you buy in the drug store which has heavy metals, phenols and quinones in it that are poisonous. Thirty-five percent food grade hydrogen peroxide is used. In the eighteenth century, doctors prescribed food grade hydrogen peroxide diluted in water to people to drink. I have been to clinics where AIDS patients use food grade hydrogen peroxide for bathing. They take a gallon of 35% hydrogen peroxide, and dilute it in a bathtub filled with 10 to 20 gallons of water. Thirty-five percent hydrogen peroxide is so strong you can’t put it directly on your skin or drink it except when properly diluted. Otherwise, it will burn you. Three percent peroxide can be sprayed on food, or put 1 tbsp. in a liter of water and soak your vegetables for 20 minutes. You can use it to spray your body after a shower. It absorbs right into the skin. This peroxide is given by doctors, injected into the body at 0.0375% (as an upper limit of concentration) which is very dilute. If you put a lot of peroxide in a vein, you will turn it sclerotic; it will turn brittle and break and burn. You don’t want that. So there are established protocols for using oxygen therapy. The protocols are available from IBOM and ECHO. Hydrogen peroxide is H2O plus O1. The same singlet of oxygen (O1) that ozone delivers to the body, is also produced by hydrogen peroxide. O1 is the beneficial free radical singlet oxygen that scavenges all the other free radicals, burns up all the toxicity and destroys bacteria, viruses, fungi, pathogens, parasites, microplasms, and microtoxins on contact. You know when you pour hydrogen peroxide in a cut, it bubbles up and it kills the bacteria. Because the microorganisms are negatively charged and O1 is positively charged, it just burns them up and oxidizes them. So that is how your immune system is going to work. Your immune system runs on oxygen. The white blood cells come along and engulf and digest the bacteria. How does it kill it? There is an area of the lymphocyte known as the peroxisome which makes hydrogen peroxide. Every single cell in your body protects itself against bacteria and viruses by making its own hydrogen peroxide. If you have insufficient oxygen, your immune system will not be able to make sufficient hydrogen peroxide which means you will have a chronic deficit of hydrogen peroxide at the cellular level. When you give the body ozone, hydrogen peroxide or stabilized oxygen, or the magnesium peroxide, it signals it to make hydrogen peroxide. When we use oxygen therapies, we just return to you what is missing. Your body heals itself and gets rid of the toxicity.

OZONE

Ozone is nothing more than oxygen, O2, turned into O3. Ozone is found in nature. Electrical storms produce ozone. Ultraviolet light from the sun converts the layer of oxygen around the earth into ozone. When you bubble ozone (O1) through water (H2O), you turn water into hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). The premiere water sterilization technique used by municipalities all over the world is bubbling ozone through water. It doesn’t hurt anything else but it kills all the bacteria, viruses, fungi and pathogens. Ozone is harmless to the human cells when correctly used. However, there are different types of ozone. Ozone electrically produced from air is highly toxic. But, ozone from pure oxygen isn’t. The main difference is that air-produced ozone has nitric acid, nitrous oxides and other nitrogen compounds present with it, but the pure oxygen ozone doesn’t. Even negative ion generators produce ozone and form minute amounts of nitric acid. The contaminants are the toxins, not the ozone used at proper levels. There is a water purifier that outputs a medical grade of ozone. You can apply ozone to yourself at home, either injecting it if you are trained to do this, or by using rectal insufflation. It is absorbed into the blood and carried all over the body. It takes months of flooding the body with oxygen. And people work up to that level very slowly, because if you rush it, if you put too much oxygen in, you are going to stir up so much garbage that the organs of elimination will plug up or become irritated. So there are protocols. There are established dosages. You have to spend time doing this therapy. For example, people who have AIDS have to go to a clinic if they want to sero convert to HIV negative. They have six weeks of IV injections with the ozone therapy on a daily basis.

STABILIZED OXYGEN PRODUCTS

There are stabilized oxygen products, commercially available, about 12 brands of them including Aerox, and Aerobic 07, which are very inexpensive. I have interviewed people all over the world getting rid of every disease you can think of, and sports athletes using oxygen therapies to increase their endurance.

TOXINS IN YOUR FOOD, AIR AND WATER

If you were to look at your blood under a microscope, you would see that there are viruses, bacteria, fungi, pathogens, all kinds of garbage pollution in your blood that don’t belong there. That is the reason you are aging prematurely. That is the reason you have a fungus, Candida. That is the reason you are tired and cranky. You need more sleep, and as you get older, you wind down and lose your energy. You figure you should live to be 60, 70 if you’re lucky. But there are people around the world who are living to be 140, 150. We are speaking about the Hunzas, the ancient tribal peoples living in the Indus Valley. You can also live that long and you could give birth when you are over 100. The only difference between them and you is that they have lots of oxygen in their food, water and air. They get their water from ancient glacier melts which are loaded with oxygen, formed back when the oxygen level on this planet was 38 to 50% oxygen. The atmosphere today is around 20% oxygen. Everybody all day long is breathing dirty air. If you live in a city your body is trying to filter two tablespoons full of dirt out of the lungs alone, every single day all day long. The ancient glaciers also have up to 60 trace minerals which are supposed to be in your diet, but which you don’t find anymore because the soils have all been depleted and demineralized in the United States since the 1930s. When you go to the supermarket, you bite into a carrot and it’s bitter because there were no minerals to grow that carrot with. Natural organic carrots grown in mineralized soil are sweet. All the food you eat is contaminated with pesticides and fertilizers and aren’t grown in mineralized soil. The cows in the fields have a time-release hormone-antibiotic compound in their ear, released right into the blood stream hour after hour every day – and you eat the steak. Pesticides are sprayed on the grain given to the cattle and chickens. Do you wash your vegetables in hydrogen peroxide before you eat them so that you won’t be absorbing the pesticides on the skins of the vegetables? The food colouring, the preservatives, the drugs, as all these things come into your body, your body’s white blood cells are used up constantly trying to defend you against this invasion of toxins.

And now they are trying to radiate the food, which is the worst thing you could possibly do to our society. The reason the radiation can make the food sit on the shelf and look pretty for weeks upon weeks, and it doesn’t turn rotten, is because the radiation kills all the enzymes. You won’t be able to digest it because you don’t have any enzymes to digest it and the auto-intoxication from the undigested proteins floating around in your blood stream, is what viruses latch right onto, leading to this rising incidence of AIDS, herpes, hepatitis and everything else. If they start irradiating the food, within a generation we are going to be in big trouble. The water is also toxic. If you live in a city, it is full of chlorine and fluorine, chemicals which are unnatural to the human body. All the organic compounds, the trihalomethanes, all that stuff in the water, all are carcinogens and have to be filtered out by the body. They are unnatural substances. The body has no enzymes to digest them, so what happens is that your liver, kidneys, your lymph system, your organs of elimination, your colon, start to become clogged up.

INVASION OF MICROORGANISMS

Then what happens? The invasion into the body of bacterial viruses, fungi, pathogens, microbes, microplasms, microtoxins, all this stuff, all the little bugs and viruses come into the body and live on the garbage. They are able to do that because they are anaerobic: they can’t live in oxygen. There is not enough oxygen in your body and this is the only way that these things can infect you and infest you, create colonies of themselves to the point where you come down with a disease, HIV, Epstein Barr, herpes, hepatitis, the common cold, flu, strep throat, bacterial infections, colitis, all the microbes that come into the body and they are eating you because you look like lunch because you look like garbage. If your body were flooded with oxygen, and these things can’t live in oxygen, what would happen when they try to invade your body? They can’t, because there is so much oxygen they can’t live there. So it is a struggle of survival. It is you against them. If you do nothing they win. If you keep the oxygen level up in your body, the bacteria can’t come in. I have seen patients reabsorbing tumours, and completely healed AIDS patients and cancer patients. Oxygen therapies don’t heal you. They simply give you back what you are missing and your body heals itself. You won’t get the common cold, you won’t get the flu. They are anaerobic and can’t live in oxygen.

CANCER

When toxicity reaches the cell, the cells do one of two things. They either mutate into cancer, or they stop working. As everybody gets older, they stop digesting their food because of the toxicity which you have been breathing, eating and drinking your entire life to the point where the organs that are supposed to be creating the enzymes for digestion have become so filled with pollution and toxicity that they slow down their function and eventually quit. Dr. Otto Warburg who won two Nobel Prizes said the cause of cancer is when any cell is denied 60% of its oxygen requirements. To continue living, it mutates into 31 steps lower on the evolutionary scale, from a higher order human, high functioning cell to a low order plant type cell that has no higher functions and just grows and grows and grows. In other words, the cell switches from an oxidative respiration mechanism to a fermentative respiration mechanism. The cell stops breathing oxygen because there isn’t any, and it starts fermenting the body sugar, glucose, to keep itself alive, because there is lots of that. That is the cause of cancer. Lets postulate the cure for cancer: perhaps removing the cause. If the cause is low oxygen in the body, if you were to flood the body with oxygen long enough you may cure it. I have many people calling me saying, “Mr. McCabe, I’m so glad I read your book. I went out and got some oxygen therapy and my stomach cancer is gone, my lymphoma is gone, my leukemia is gone”, and on and on.

OXYGEN THERAPIES

You are supposed to be getting oxygen in your food, air and water. The oxygen comes from the new growth in the forest, from the plankton in the ocean; it rises up into the air six miles above the earth, turns into ozone, that ozone layer created by nature, falls to earth to clean it up, clean up the air, get into the roots of plants, but it is not there. It has all been used up in the pollution along the way, in the transportation. So it is up to you to put it back. And that is what oxygen therapies are all about. I am convinced after 25 years of investigating all sorts of alternative health and healing methods, the one important thing is oxygen. The lack of it in your body is the root cause of your diseases. If we were to replace that oxygen, mineralize your body and give you enzymes, you would be amazed at how much happier you are, how much more energy you have, how fewer diseases you will get if any at all and how much longer you live. I know people who are flooding their bodies with oxygen and do not get sick. It’s not just for AIDS and cancer, but for the flu, or the common cold as well. I have seen almost every disease you can think of made better by oxygen therapies. Get enough oxygen, then herbs and all the other therapies have their place.

The milder forms of oxygen therapy are available in Toronto through the Wolfe Clinic (now in Nova Scotia -Ed.), and other clinics. You can get direct IV forms of ozone in Mexico, but this is not available at present in Canada. The vast majority of people using oxygen therapies don’t go to a clinic. They may go there to learn about the therapy and ask questions but the majority of people that I interviewed are treating themselves; they are using this on a daily basis and they are not in clinics. I have had hundreds of people call me and tell me they have gotten rid of cancer and every other disease using ozone, hydrogen peroxide, stabilized oxygen or homozone, along with a course of bowel cleansing, colloidal minerals, enzymes, that sort of thing. The people who have success with serious diseases use multiple oxygen therapies, all day long, day after day, month after month.

POLITICS

But, none of this is taught in your medical schools. One of the heads of the FDA Enforcement Surveillance Division for Drug Enforcement said the medical schools teach not what the patient needs, but what the pharmaceutical companies want taught. Why? Because they want to sell more drugs. It’s the largest business on the planet, $55 billion dollars a year. The political situation is so bad in the United States that this company Medazone (Medazone Canada Ltd. is the Canadian company) were trying to get a clinical trial using ozone therapy to decontaminate human blood and also to give ozone directly to AIDS patients. But the FDA is opposed to ozone therapy and are removing ozone machines and trying to revoke the medical license of practitioners using it.

Pool Chemicals

A pool’s filter system does the heavy lifting in keeping the water clean, but it takes chemistry to do the fine-tuning. It’s important to carefully manipulate the chemical balance in pools for several reasons:

Dangerous pathogens, such as bacteria, thrive in water. A pool filled with untreated water would be a perfect place for disease-carrying microorganisms to move from one person to another.

Water with the wrong chemical balance can damage the various parts of the pool.

Improperly balanced water can irritate the skin and eyes.

Improperly balanced water can get very cloudy.

To take care of pathogens in the water, you have to introduce a disinfecting agent that will get rid of them. The most popular pool disinfectant is the element chlorine, in the form of a chemical compound such as calcium hypochlorite (a solid) or sodium hypochlorite (a liquid). When the compound is added to the water, the chlorine reacts with the water to form various chemicals, most notably hypochlorous acid. Hypochlorous acid kills bacteria and other pathogens by attacking the lipids in the cell walls and destroying the enzymes and structures inside the cell through an oxidation reaction. Alternative sanitizers, such as bromide, do basically the same thing with slightly different results.

<!– Photo courtesy
–>An automated chlorine feeder
hooked into the pump and filter system

Chlorine is typically prepared in liquid, powder or tablet form (though some professionals use gaseous chlorine), and it can be added to the water anywhere in the cycle. Pool experts generally recommend adding it just after the filtering process, using a chemical feeder. If it’s added directly into the pool, using tablets in the skimmer boxes, for example, the chlorine tends to be too concentrated in those areas.

One problem with hypochlorous acid is that it’s not particularly stable. It can degrade when exposed to ultraviolet light from the sun, and it may combine with other chemicals to form new compounds. Pool chlorinators often include a stabilizing agent, such as cyanuric acid, that reacts with the chlorine to form a more stable compound that does not degrade as easily when exposed to ultraviolet light.

Even with a stabilizing agent, hypochlorous acid may combine with other chemicals, forming compounds that are not very effective sanitizers. For example, hypochlorous acid may combine with ammonia, found in urine, among other things, to produce various chloramines. Not only are chloramines poor sanitizers, but they can actually irritate the skin and eyes and have an unpleasant odor. The distinctive smell and eye irritation associated with swimming pools are actually due to chloramines, not ordinary hypochlorous acid — a strong smell usually means there is too little free chlorine (hypochlorous acid), rather than too much. To get rid of chloramines, pool custodians have to shock treat the pool — add an unusually strong dose of chemicals to clear out organic matter and unhelpful chemical compounds.

Chloramine formation is related to the second major element in pool chemistry, maintaining the right pH in the pool.

pH Level
The water’s pH is a measure of its total acid-alkalinity balance — the relative proportion of acids and alkalis in the water (check out Chem4Kids: Acids & Bases for a description of acids and alkalis). Simply put, water that is either too acidic or too alkaline will cause undesirable chemical reactions. If the water is too acidic, it will corrode metal equipment, cause etching on the surface materials and cause skin irritation. If the water is too alkaline, it can cause scaling on the pool surface and plumbing equipment and can cloud the water. Additionally, both high acidity and high alkalinity alters the effectiveness of the chlorine. The chlorine won’t destroy pathogens as well if the water is too alkaline, and it will dissipate much more quickly if the water is too acidic.

On the pH scale, zero indicates extreme acidity, 14 indicates extreme alkalinity and 7 indicates a neutral state. Most pool experts recommend a pool pH between 7.2 and 7.8. To raise or lower pH, a pool custodian simply adds acids or alkalis into the water. For example, adding sodium carbonate (soda ash) or sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) will generally raise the pH, and adding muriatic acid or sodium bisulfate will lower the pH.

Maintaining the proper balance of chemicals in the pool is a continual process, because any new element — oils from a swimmer’s body, a shot of chlorine, stuff that falls in the water — shifts the water’s total chemical makeup. In addition to pH, pool custodians also monitor total alkalinity, calcium hardness and total dissolved solids.

When you consider all the chemistry and machinery involved in swimming pools, it’s clear that they really are remarkable pieces of technology. It takes a surprising amount of work and ingenuity to build and maintain these summertime staples.

Grind for the Green, a non-profit organization that works with Bay Area youth careers in music provided its second annual four-part series, free of charge that includes a beat and emcee competition, July 12-Aug 30, ‘09 for the final competition at Yerba Buena Park in San Francisco, CA; all happening while caring for the environment utilizing solar panels for energy, sponsored by Solar Living Institute.

“The ecological aspect of it is that all of our materials are made with recycled paper,” says Ambessa Cantave, Co-Executive Director for G4G, “We are trying to instruct the youth on where the world is going and the impact we can make with the choices we make.”

Solar Living Institute has been training communities in environmentally friendly alternative lifestyles; G4G has a relationship with them through their official fiscal sponsor, Global Exchange.

“More urban communities need access and information on eco-living so they can understand that going green can be cool and not just for hippies. It also provided a learning opportunity for the artists involved in G4G who are learning more about this movement,” states Founder and Executive Director, Zakiya Harris who had nearly 350 in attendance to G4G, double the amount of last year.

Young adults were able to unify and become educated while attending music conference, music workshop, a creative beat battle and a paced emcee competition. Several workshops went down on July 12 at San Francisco State University where youth learned how to project their voices with song and poetry, improvisation, how to check in with a soundman and more. July 18 was G4G youth conference featuring speaker M1 of dead prez educating youth on music business and environmental justice.

“It was inspirational and we were happy that it was all about social justice, activism and then to take it upon themselves to make it happen,” says Cantave.

Emcee Talib Kweli and vegan soul chef Bryant Terry played the part of celebrity judges. Young adults are taught dynamics of vocal performance, producing music, mixing and mastering, stage presence correlated while learning how to put the right foods in their bodies and to respect the earth, hence solar-powered hip-hop events.

“I think that it assisted our community by exposing them to tangible solutions for the planet in a culturally engaging and innovative way. I believe that is the only way to get urban communities excited about climate change,” says Harris who was able to hire and pay youth we also had three interns and various volunteers this year.

The ability to reduce or eliminate odors and gases in an occupied area has been a challenge for contractors, architects, environmental engineers and HVACR professionals for years. This problem persists in many forms and in many areas in the residential, commercial, institutional, industrial and medical arenas.

In the past thirty years a number of odor and gas reduction/removal processes have been employed to resolve these problems. Of all the products and techniques that have been tried two methods are the most often considered and only one of these two methods provides any real reduction or removal.

Ozone is easily produced. Simply by applying a small amount of electricity in a spark form you can transform Oxyen (O2) into Ozone (O3). Ozone is produced naturally when there is lightning. If you are outside close to a lightning strike you can often smell the ozone produced by the lightning. It almost has a sweet, fresh air smell.

Activated Carbon or Charcoal has a natural affinity to adsorb (not absorb) gases and odors that are both organic and inorganic. Activated carbon has a very large surface area that captures and holds most gaseous molecules until the carbon is saturated then it will release the excess gaseous molecules.

Ozone is a strong oxidizer. Ozone easily gives up one of Oxygen elements which can alter the chemical composition of gases. Ozone is often referred to as “energized oxygen” or “pure air” suggesting that ozone is a healthy kind of oxygen. That is far from true. Ozone is a toxic gas with vastly different chemical and toxicological properties from oxygen. Ozone can be harmful to the respiratory system and is the primary component of smog.

While carbon does have a finite life and adsorption capacity, it actually removes or significantly reduces the gas or odor completely. Unlike Ozone which may only change the gaseous molecule to another form that may actually be more harmful than the original odor problem, Carbon is benign and removes the harmful odors and gases without producing any health problems for individuals.

Pure Air Systems manufactures a complete line of carbon based systems that can hold from 10 lbs of carbon up to 60 lbs of carbon. These units are designed to work in all types of applications whether it is residential or commercial. These units are fan powered and can handle up to 2000 CFM of contaminated air with excellent first pass reduction of odors and gases.

Just a few things to mention before tomorrow’s game against MGT FC.

Firstly a change of location, we are not at the Ozone this week as it was fully booked when I phoned, but we will be at Cherryvale Playing Fields on Ravenhill Road. See on Google Maps. The pitches are about the same distance away from Renwick and are not all that far from the Ozone really. If you need a lift cars will be leaving from Renwick from around 1.40 onwards. Support would be much appreciated as this is Renwick’s 50th ever game (since records began). Trinidad and Tobago vs. FC World XI will also be taking place at Cherryvale.

Kick off is at 2.30, and changing rooms are available. If you plan on walking it the pitches are roughly 1.5 miles away from Renwick, it’s to be a nice enough day apparently..

Or if pictures are more your thing..

Hope that is clear enough, any questions just ask. See you there!

Summer’s here! Swimming pools are a terrific way to cool off when the mercury climbs, and they also can be a surprisingly easy way to go green. Whether your style is cannonballs or chaise lounges, here are eight tips designed to turn your pool into a green oasis.

1. Got Salt?

Spend a lot of time in a chlorine pool and you might emerge with red eyes, green hair and itchy skin. Recent findings have even linked regular swimming in a chlorine pool to the development of asthma in small children as well. To combat this, consider switching to salt water. The absence of chemicals means it’s more gentle on the skin, and the salt helps keep the pool naturally clean and algae-free, translating to less money and less maintenance.

Try purchasing reusable containers for pool chemicals as many curbside recyclers will not accept containers that once held hazardous chemicals. Photo: Demandstudios.com

2. Reusable Containers

Is there a mountain of bottles and jugs scattered around your pool? Even if you choose natural products to keep your pool clean, all those plastic containers can still add up.

Check with your curbside recycler to see if they accept the bottles. If they held hazardous chemicals the answer is probably “no,” so find out when your next Household Hazard Waste event is occurring and drop-off these containers then.

Also consider buying pool supplies from a company that utilizes reusable containers, such as West Coast-based HASA, Inc.

3. Pump It

Like many household appliances, pumps are becoming more energy efficient. Look for the Applied Research Laboratories stamp, which means the pump meets U.S. standards for saving energy.

Pumps are now available in a wider assortment of speed models, meaning you can turn the motor down for regular daily use or up for shorter, more intense cleanings. Buying a timer for both the pump and the filter will ensure that they will run only when you want them to.

4. Check for Leaks

It may sound like a no-brainer, but even losing an inch of water a day can add up to 102,000 gallons of lost water per year. Mark the water line with a grease pencil and check it 24 hours later. If you suspect a leak, have it fixed as soon as possible. Refilling a pool with captured rainwater is an excellent way to cut down on wasted water, and it doesn’t hurt to give that new border of irises and cattails a drink while you’re at it.

5. Go Solar

If adding solar heating to your pool isn’t within your price range this summer, try a solar cover for your pool. Make sure it’s manual! Photo: Sunsystemsinc.com

Switching from natural gas, propane or electric heaters to solar energy not only saves you money, but it also saves the environment. One pool alone emits three to 10 tons of carbon dioxide each swimming season. Eliminate that and it’s like not driving your car for a year!

The annual cost of heating a pool the traditional way can easily exceed $2,000 (more if you include service technician’s fees). Sunshine, however, is free. The average cost of installing a solar system for your pool can run between $2,000 and $3,000, but since solar is basically maintenance-free, that upfront cost is pretty much all you’re going to pay.

Check out Find Solar, endorsed by the U.S. Department of Energy, to find installers in your area that specialize in renewable energy. And don’t forget the rebates and tax incentives you’re entitled to claim when you go solar.

6. Cover Up

If installing a solar system seems too costly or too daunting, throw a solar cover on your pool. Not only are you helping to heat the water, but you’re reducing the need for chemicals and lowering evaporation by up to 95 percent. Adding a cover also keeps debris out, meaning less maintenance and more time in the water. Just be sure to choose a cover that you can pull on and off manually, either by hand or with the help of a reel. Automatic and semi-automatic pool covers rely on electrical motors, defeating the purpose of saving energy.

Adding green landscaping around your pool can fight water evaporation and absorb carbon dioxide from pool chemicals. Photo: Statehomeimprovements.com

7. Add Some Green

Another way to combat water evaporation is to increase the landscaping around your pool. Planting shrubs and trees closer to the water means that they can act as a barrier on windy days (just make sure they don’t block out the sun if you rely on solar energy.)

Plants can also absorb some of the carbon dioxide emitted from common pool chemicals. For extra credit, you can even create a water cleaning system for your pool water using certain flora such as irises, cattails, arrowroot and reeds. Have an ecological landscaper place these plants in a gravel area next to the pool; the shallow water they grow in is purified by the natural bacteria in the roots and then re-circulated into the pool through a pump.

8. Subtract Some Green

If you own a pool, you’ve probably done battle with algae at least once or twice. These aquatic spores appear whenever there is a chemical imbalance in the water. It used to be that the only way to prevent and rid your pool of these pesky spores was to douse the water and surfaces with harsh chemicals.

However, eco-conscious companies such as Orenda Technologies are finding safer ways to keep your water clear. By removing the nutrients in the water that algae feed on, the non-toxic, non-hazardous additives prevent algae growth and staining without chemicals.
