BLUBBING Scots telly babe Lorraine Kelly was in floods of tears yesterday as celebrities from across the globe wished her a happy 50th birthday.

Stars including film hunk Gerry Butler, The Bee Gees, Peter Andre and Ricky Gervais sent surprise messages while she presented yesterday morning’s GMTV.

Looking wholesome as ever in revealing tartan dress, the big-hearted Dundee mum couldn’t hold back the tears as youngsters from the Black Watch Army Cadets also passed on their best wishes.

In a morning packed full of surprises, Lorraine was relieved from her usual presenting duties by another TV queen, Paul O’Grady, with the set adorned with balloons.

The camp star leapt onto the GMTV set and whipped off his bowtie, treating Lorraine to an impromptu birthday strip-show.

He told her: “You’ve been on telly almost half your life Lorraine, so there’s no way we could let your fiftieth go by without embarrassing you.”

A host of famous faces

Fellow Scot turned Hollywood hero Gerard Butler said: “Lorraine is 50? I can’t believe it.

“If it’s true, happy birthday.”

Hit boyband JLS joined them on the GMTV sofa to get Lorraine’s pulse racing.

Other well-wishers on the show included Doctor Who star David Tennant, singers Will Young and Leona Lewis and rockers Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne.

Even the footballers from Lorraine’s beloved Dundee United sent a special message from their changing room.

Producers then showed a an impressive montage of celebs Lorraine has interviewed, including Elton John, Kylie Minogue, George Clooney, Joan Collins and Hugh Grant.

She was in Dundee at the weekend where husband Steve – also 50 – put on a big birthday bash along with Lorraine’s friends and relatives.

While she commutes to London every Sunday night to present the morning show, Lorraine said home is firmly where her heart is.

“A brilliant start to being 50″

She jets home to Dundee to be with Steve and their daughter Rosie every weekend.

Lorraine credited her own mum, Anne, for her youthful looks.

She said: “It’s all thanks to my mum that I have my legs and my cheekbones.”

But O’Grady said her “best assets” were neither her legs nor her cheekbones.

He said: “You’re most famous for your amazing bosom Lorraine, it goes before you.

“But it’s great you’ve done so much to raise awareness of breast cancer.”

Closing the show with a personalised cake featuring her famous bust and pink champagne, she said: “I’ve been welling up all morning.

“I had a fantastic night on Saturday and I’ve been totally spoiled today.

“It’s been a brilliant start to being 50.”

Ozzy...is not only Black Sabbath

The madmans solo debut. The Ozz coming into his own. The quintessential Ozzy aka Metal album.

As I have already stated in my Black Sabbath review, I am an Ozzy fan. I simply like his voice and personality and all that, its funny. I was reminded of him suddenly a few weeks ago when I was watching Monday Night RAW, where he was the guest host ( I am waiting for Rock to guest host RAW, man. Can’t wait) and he was quite good at it too. (Btw, if you did not watch, please check out the asshole Chris F Masters bouncing his boobies to the beats of Crazy Train. It was great!! The only time he has ever done anything entertaining. And he is sposed to be a sports entertainer)

Before this turns out to be review of Monday Night RAW, let me return to Ozzy and not soil this review of one of my favourite albums by being off topic. As I said, Ozzy has, according to me, a great voice, now after being bereft of the skills of Tony Iommi on the guitar, he needed a great guitarist. And look at his luck, who does he get? A guitarist who could put any other axeman on this earth to shame in his day (Yea, even all your John Petruccis, Yngwie Malmsteen, Steve Vai etc etc..)

Randy Rhoads. The man responsible for the resurrection of the Ozzman’s career. Without him there might never have been “The Osbournes”. More importantly, without him we might never have had the privilege to hear brilliant songs like “Crazy Train” or “Mr Crowley”.

Those two tracks form the core of this hellraiser of an album. Just look at Randy’s guitar tone. Raw, in your face, classic and at times, classical. Awesome. He perfectly complements Ozzy, as the Ozzman just blazes away on this album. Except for the last three songs, the whole album is a stone cold classic. Ozzy’s lyrics are always fun to hear, the nice thing being, Ozzy stopped writing too much of Satan and just wrote what he wanted to without trying to be “evil” and “dark”.

Of course, if you come to an Ozzy solo album for listening to some really heavy shit….well just do not come then. This brand of metal is not heavy at all, but just hooky 80’s pop metal sorta, made great because it has Ozzy singing and Randy classical soloing. Iommi made Ozzy great because his heavy vacuum cleaner of a guitar, which just droned along, while Randy’s guitar just flies away sort of and is very light. Easy to get into. Even non-metal heads will like this stuff immensely.

Not much else that I want to say. There was a whole case filed against Ozzy for abetment of suicide, when some asshole listened to Suicide Solution and then killed himself, but who cares. He got off. The court said that the song did not contain subliminal messages. The boys parents had argued that Ozzy was guilty of inciting their kid to suicide because Suicide Solution has Ozzy chanting “Do it , Do it”. In McCollum et al. v. CBS, Inc., et al the court upheld the right to free speech and the said that the First Amendment…………..

Yea, that is what happens when you become a law student. I am truly sorry.

The album is totally kick arse. Has the nice ballad  “Goodbye to Romance” and all which makes me feel senti at times. Check it out.

In a role that looks likely to eclipse fellow rocker Steven Adler’s appearance in slasher comedy ‘Dahmer vs. Gacy’ erstwhile Black Label Society/Ozzy axeman Zakk Wylde plays Uncle Jed to title charcter Bones White in late-80s set coming-of-age flick ‘`Bones.’

The movie,  the writing and directorial debut of Frank Pestarino, is described as a “heart-breaking…story [about] four teens growing up in 1989 blue-collar New York” and a bond that ties them together for life. Hmmm. Like…finding a dead body?!

And then there’s the cast. Wylde notwithstanding it consists of a bunch of still unknown but rapidly climbing actors such as 13-year old Jimmy Bennett (‘Bones White’), most recently — and geekily — seen as ‘Young James T. Kirk’ in ‘Star Trek’ and Toe Thompson in Robert Rodriguez’ ‘Shorts.’

Melissa Ordway (‘17 Again’) plays ‘Samantha Reeves.’ Jonna Walsh (‘Couple’s Retreat’) is Samantha’s little sis, ‘Kelly Reeves.’ Jesse James plays ‘Derrick Scott’ in this movie. At 20-years old  his resume already stretches back as far as ‘Walker, Texas Ranger,’ ‘As Good As It Gets,’ and ’Gods and Monsters,’ making stops in ”Blow’ and ‘The Butterfly Effect’ along the way. 

Perhaps most Geektastic of all, however, is the casting of Donnie Most, sorry Don Most, as ‘Mr. Reeves,’ the girls’ father. Most remains most famous for  his role as ‘Ralph Malph’ in ’Happy Days,’ but was also in early 80s series ‘Dungeons & Dragons,’ the late 80s’ ‘Teen Wolf’ animated series, and had one- or two-off appearances in ‘Baywatch,’ ‘Star Trek: Voyager,’ and as the voice of ‘The White Rabbit’ in ‘Sabrina the Teenage Witch.’

I’m not privvy to the plot at all, but the general premise and a cast consisting of a very unlikely musician crossover, a bunch of legit up-and-comers, and a Tarantino-style resurrection move, smell to me like either a classic-in-the-making or an unmitigated disaster.

Mr. Pestarino, it is now largely down to you.

Kojarzycie Marylina Mansona? Tak. A Alice’a Coopera? Tego już może nie wszyscy, ale większość zapewne też. Poza tym: Ozzy Osbourne, GG Allin, połowa jakichś tam grup death metalowych. Co ich łączy? Są uważani za przedstawicieli tzw. shock rocka, co oznacza, że oprócz muzyki dają nam (mniej lub bardziej udany) show, który ma szokować (really?). Makijaż czarną kredką, odgryzanie głów nietoperkom, sikanie na scenie i takie tam. Generalnie rzecz biorąc przeważnie wychodzi im to dość kiczowato, ale taki też chyba jest (przynajmniej częściowo) ich zamysł. Niestety, o ile twórczość Ozzy’ego (przez pewien czas) była całkiem niezła, to już muzyka jaką prezentują/owali Marylin, GG czy Alice jest w najlepszym wypadku średnia (na współczesnym metalu się nie znam, więc tę kwestię pominę). Mamy jednak pewnego artystę, którzy dał nam dużą ilość fantastycznych nagrań i tak się składa, że oprócz tego… jest prekursorem całego tzw. gatunku shock rocka.

Jalacy Hawkins urodził się w 1929 roku. Początkowo chciał zostać śpiewakiem operowym i choć po pewnym czasie priorytety mu się zmieniły, to ten pierwiastek operowości słychać w niemal wszystkich jego nagraniach. Muzyki nie porzucił, umiał wszak grać już na pianinie oraz gitarze, a także całkiem nieźle śpiewać. Został więc muzykiem bluesowym. Grał także w obozach wojskowych, kiedy został wysłany na front w trakcie drugiej wojny światowej. Po powrocie do kraju zaczął rozwijać swój niezwykły styl będący połączeniem bluesa, muzyki big bandowej (coś w rodzaju Benny’ego Goodmana, Franka Sinatry) oraz Hawkinsowego nieokrzesania (na marginesie: Jay był mistrzem boksu stanu Alaska).

W 1956 roku Screamin’ Jak Hawkins (bo taki pseudonim przybrał Jalacy Hawkins) nagrał swój największy hit – “I Put a Spell on You”. W trakcie nagrywania cały zespół był pijany, a sam Jay w końcu zaliczył tak zwanego zgona i potem niczego nie pamiętał. A tak się składa, że w trakcie sesji dał naprawdę niezły popis – chrumkał, charczał, krzyczał, jęczał… Posłuchajcie tylko oryginalnego nagrania: LINK. Jako, że były to jeszcze czasy przed rewolucją obyczajową nagranie zostało zakazane przez wiele stacji radiowych jako zbyt obsceniczne i nawiązujące do seksualności.

Mniej więcej w tym samym pewien DJ zaproponował Screamin’ Jayowi, że zapłaci mu 300 dolarów, jeśli ten na początku koncertu wyłoni się z trumny. Nasz sympatyczny Murzynek przystał na tę propozycję, a potem cały pomysł znacznie rozwinął. Zaczął pojawiać się na scenie wyposażony w akcesoria voodoo, ubrany w skórę lamparta. Miał też swoją ulubioną laskę zakończoną czaszką paląca papierosa – nazwał ją Henry. Wszystko to połączone z jego unikalnym stylem wokalnym stworzyło legendarny, szokujący, ale zarazem komiczny i pastiszowy wizerunek Jaya, którego fragment możecie zobaczyć na znajdującym się poniżej koncertowym wykonaniu “I Put a Spell…”.

Hawkins nagrał jeszcze trochę popularnych kawałków (“Frenzy”, “Alligator Wine”, “Little Demon”, “Constipation Blues”), żaden jednak nie powtórzył sukcesu “Spell”. W latach 80tych i 90 tych koncertował on wspólnie chociażby z The Clash czy Nickiem Cavem, jego muzyka była szczególnie popularna w krajach europejskich. Niestety – 12 lutego 20 roku Jay zmarł w Paryżu po operacji tętniaka. Zostawił nam jednak swoją wspaniałą muzykę (na początek polecam płytę “Cow Fingers and Mosquito Pie”)… I przy okazji około 50-70 dzieci na całym świecie.

Ieri am citit “Trestia revoltata” in timpul cursului de reumato, am dormit si m-am uitat pe fereastra. Azi recitesc din memorie, ascult muzica si sunt amortita….

After the disaster that was the January Jones Saturday Night Live debacle, Joseph Gordon-Levitt swooped in and hosted a truly legendary show. It was clear from his opening monologue that we were in for an evening of delight. I implore Lorne to invite “Joe” back for hosting duties as soon as humanly possible.

Here is one of the classic skits from last Saturday’s episode featuring a shockingly believable Ozzy Osbourne played by the famously mellow Dave Matthews:

I was in the grocery store when I passed by a man in the aisle.

He was older, my dad’s age, with black hair the reached his lower back, and that crazed look of people who have been doing too many drugs for the past thirty years.

Basically, Ozzy Osbourne’s twin.

He caught my eye and unsteadily but quickly lurched closer to me.

“Whooooa! I LOVE your hair!” He  spoke in a British accent, and reached out to touch it.

I get that sometimes, on rare days like today when I actually blow-dry the crazy mess. “Oh!” I said, surprised and intrigued by the accent. “Thank you!”

“And your EYES! and your smile, and whooa, you just MESMERIZE me!” His high-as-a-kite expression and the fact that he literally couldn’t tear his eyes away from me was too comical, and hit me before the idea that maybe I should keep walking did.

“I’m a musician, and I have a girlfriend, but I like to flirt, do you have a ring, you should have a ring, you should be married, someone should marry you!”

I laughed, then feeling awkward, tried to think of an escape route.

Then my escape route presented herself– she walked up and hugged him close, and in a Southern accent, drawled, “Honey, are you hittin’ on the girls again?” She laughed and smiled.

She had long, overly dyed brassy blonde hair that hung to her waist, and skin that led me to believe she had done as many drugs as he had. Actually, it was the rainbow beanie complete with propeller on her head that tipped me off.

I laughed and said to her, “You got a good one, there!”, and then ran away.

Still wondering where the guys my age are. And why THEY aren’t hitting on me.

Ante las críticas de algunos fans, Slash, quien fuera el famoso guitarrista de Guns N’ Roses, defendió en su twitter la colaboración que realizó la cantante de Black Eyed Peas, Fergie, para hacer una nueva versión del clásico “Paradise city”, que posiblemente incluya en su nuevo álbum que saldrá para marzo del 2010.
