Guida aggiornata al 5 Novembre 2009

Questa guida è rivolta a tutti i possessori di scheda madre Asus P5K con chipset P35.

Modelli supportati:

P5K-SE, P5K, P5K PRO, P5K SE/EPU, P5K WS, P5K/EPU, P5KC & P5KR ,P5K Deluxe/WiFi-AP, P5K Premium/WiFi-AP, P5K3 Deluxe/WiFi-AP, P5K3 Premium/WiFi-AP, P5K-E & P5K-E/WIFI-AP

Occorrente:
- dmg snow leopard 10A432 Golden Master
- BOOT-132 per Snow Leopard – QUI -
- Kext+Utility zip: – QUI -
- Utility2: – QUI – (contiene KextHelper e KextUtility)
- HD vuoto formattato in GUID per ospitare Snow Leopard

Procedura per l’installazione:

1) Masterizzate la iso del BOOT-132 su un cd e assicuratevi di avere tutti gli HDD in AHCI (Vedi anche Abilitare l’AHCI su schede madri P5K tramite Bios Patchato) e il controller Jmicron disabilitato.

2) Riavviate il sistema, quindi avviate dal lettore CD vi troverete nella schermata del bootloader chameleon. Estraete il CD, inserite il DVD di Snow Leopard e premete F10: a questo punto dovrebbe riconoscere il DVD. Quando lo riconosce come “Mac OS X Install DVD” digitate -v e premete INVIO. Adesso inizia il caricamento del DVD di Snow Leopard, pazientate ci vorrà un po’. Arrivati alla schermata della scelta della lingua scegliete la vostra e proseguite.

3) Dopo che “Installer di Mac OSX” si è caricato andate su Utility, quindi su Utility Disco. Inizializzate l’HDD su cui volete installare Snow Leopard con mappa partizioni GUID e con formato “Mac OS Esteso (Journaled)” e nome “Macintosh HD” o come preferite.

4) Adesso uscite dal programma Utility Disco, proseguite l’installazione fin quando non vi chiede di selezionare il disco: naturalmente scegliete quello che avete predisposto per l’installazione. Personalizzate l’installazione come preferite ma assicuratevi che non ci sia il segno di spunta su “Stampanti vicine e pubbliche”. Potrebbe bloccare l’installazione.

5) Avviate l’installazione, attendete la fine quindi cliccate su Riavvia o aspettate 30 secondi (Se vi da un errore generico alla fine, non preoccupatevi).

6) Al riavvio togliete il DVD, reinserite il CD di boot e avviate dal lettore
A questo punto selezionate il disco dove avete installato Snow Leopard e digitate -v seguito da INVIO.
Se tutto è andato a buon fine il vostro felino bianco dovrebbe avviarsi attraverso il BOOT-132!

7) Installate Chamaleon 2 RC3 presente nella cartella Kext+Utility>Others

Sempre da Snow Leopard sostituite tutta la cartella Extra presente in Snow con la cartella Extra presente nella cartella Kext+Utility

9) Ora aprite Utility Disco, a sinistra selezionate Snow col tasto dx “Informazioni” e copiate il vostro identificativo universale. Nell’hd di Snow andate in Extra, aprite com.Apple.Boot.plist e sostituite la stringa boot uuid con il vostro uuid copiato in precedenza. Ora sempre nell’HD di Snow, andate in Extra>Extensions e tasto DX su PlatformUUID.kext>mostra contenuto pacchetto, aprite l’info plist e sotituite anche qui l’UUID con il vostro. Riavviate senza il BOOT-132 nel lettore.

Da Snow installate con KextHelper i tre kext presenti nella cartella Kext+Utility>Others>For S/L/E

9) Ora per ovviare all’impossibilità di riparare i permessi rifate la procedura al punto 2 ma al posto di lanciare OSInstalla lanciate BSD.pkg e lasciate eseguire l’installazione, alla fine chiudete la finestra di installazione eseguita. Ora potete riparare i permessi con Utility Disco.

10) Ora lanciate Kext Utility sempre presente nella cartella Utility2 e lasciategli fare il suo lavoro… riparerà i permessi in S/L/E, rimuove la caches dei kext e ripristina Extensions.mkext, alla fine chiudete.

NB: per la vostra scheda video potete anche usare GFX string.

Avete finito, dovreste avere Snow funzionante a 64 bit nativamente!

I know this one kept me awake at nights and had me wondering how Google can translate from japanese to english

But I eventually managed to find a way… At least for my P35-DS3 board.

This board happily detects and boots any USB stick, as long as the first partition (primary 1) on it is FAT and marked as active. Which is not the case with the ESXi .dd image. The Hypervisor0 partition, although it is physically the first, has the index 4.

You just swap the numbers of partitions 1 and 4 on the stick, without changing the sector layout. Fdisk is the only tool I needed. Write down the initial layout of the partitions, delete and recreate them, only this time make the smallest one primary 1 and the extended one primary 4.

Tested with 3.5U3 and 4.0.

- LEOPARD OSX installato su un altro HD e funzionante
- HD vuoto formattato in GUID per ospitare Snow Leopard

Procedura per l’installazione:

1) L’hard disk vuoto deve essere in GUID come ormai avrete capito, il tutto fatto tramite Utility Disc

2) Procedete con il montare l’immagine DMG 10A432, appena si aprirà la finestra premere CMD + SHIFT + G ed inserire la path seguente come mostrato in figura: /Mac OS X Install DVD/System/Installation/Packages/

3) Fate partire ora il file OSInstall.mpkg, selezionare l’HD che abbiamo appena formattato in GUID, deselezionate tutto ciò che non serve ( lingue aggiuntive,stampanti,x11, ecc….) e procedere con l’installazione, una volta terminato chiudete pure la finestra di installazione avvenuta.

4) Installate Chamaleon 2 RC3 presente nella cartella Kext+Utility>Others

5) Sempre da Leopard sostituite tutta la cartella Extra presente in Snow con la cartella Extra presente nella cartella Kext+Utility

6) Ora aprite Utility Disco, a sinistra selezionate Snow col tasto dx “Informazioni” e copiate il vostro identificativo universale.
Nell’hd di Snow andate in Extra, aprite com.Apple.Boot.plist e sostituite la stringa boot uuid con il vostro uuid copiato in precedenza.

Avete finito, dovreste avere Snow funzionante a 64 bit nativamente!

Se avete problemi con il riavvio di Snow cioè dopo il punto 6 procedete così:

1) eliminate smbios.plist dalla cartella Extra di Snow che molto probabilmente non serve.
2) Editate il com.apple.Boot.plist con la vostra risoluzione video, vedi esempio:

3) Usando DTDSPatcherGui create da Leopard il vostro dsdt.aml, eliminate quello presente nella cartella Extra ed inseriteci quello appena creato.

4) Riavviate

Sui 64-bit di Mac OS X 10.6 bisogna sapere essenzialmente tre cose:

1) Se il proprio Mac ha un processore Intel Core 2 Duo o un Intel Xeon, allora è “64-bit compatibile”. Quindi rimangono esclusi solo pochi Mac, precisamente quelli dotati di chip Intel Core Solo e Core Duo.

2) Snow Leopard gestisce le applicazioni a 64-bit in modalità a 64-bit indipendentemente dal fatto che sia stato effettuato un avvio utilizzando un kernel 64-bit o 32-bit.

3) L’unico vantaggio del boot con un kernel a 64-bit è la possibilità di utilizzare più di 32GB di RAM, ma al momento non ci sono Mac che possono sfruttare questa caratteristica a causa di limitazioni hardware.

In sintesi: qual è l’importanza di avviare Snow Leopard in modalità 64-bit? Nessuna, con gli attuali sistemi Mac.

Due particolari da tenere a mente:

A)I 64-bit sono un vantaggio solo nei calcoli complessi, quindi l’utente normale difficilmente sfrutterà questa funzionalità. Io in 12 anni di Mac forse non ho mai avviato un task impegnativo per cui sarebbero stati utili i 64-bit.

B)Snow Leopard è in generale più veloce di Leopard perchè il Finder è stato riscritto in Cocoa, non per il supporto 64-bit.

Last Wednesday Chelsea may have failed in being awarded any penalties in their European cup tie but an employer can if he fails to submit his 2008/9 P35 by Tuesday 19th May.

And why is it the taxman is always a man? That thought sometimes crosses my mind but there’s usually too much more to think about to go too deeply into that topic!

It struck me recently that we’re getting to the point when the tax free cash for filing your Payroll tax return on line will come to an end and EVERYONE will need to do it and get nothing for it. Of course, the next stage in the online filing process is that you will need to pay your PAYE online (electronically) and then they will really be able to chase outstanding PAYE bills. That in itself will see an end to people using the taxman as a soure of comparatively free borrowing. So far though, no more incentives heading the taxpayer’s way for doing things online. Except perhaps for VAT.

You don’t get cash in hand tax free for submitting your VAT returns online but if you structure what you do in the rightway, you get up to 12 days extra cashflow, having the cash in your bank account rather than theirs. In these days of zero% interest that’s maybe not such a good deal but its still better that you have the working capital in your account rather than theirs.

You can expect things to get tougher though as On-line becomes the norm for every dance we have with the taxman, we’ll see more deadlines shortening, penalties increasing and the number of  investigations increase even more. And online filing of your VAT return will soon become compulsory.
