A distraught father had to make the hardest decision of his life – choosing to save the life of his drowning wife over his son, who was trapped in a submerged car.

Silva Natana Horton, 13, drowned in the Whanganui River on Saturday night after the car in which he was a front-seat passenger went off Somme Pde and cartwheeled down a steep 10-metre bank into the water about 9.45pm.

His mother, Vanessa Horton, who was driving, Silva’s best friend, Robert Palmer, 14, and the family dog escaped with minor injuries.

Silva’s father, Stacy Horton, arrived from their home in nearby Stewart St less than two minutes after the crash to hear his wife screaming in the darkness and to see Robert and the dog scrambling up the bank.

He clambered down and saw his wife in the water. He tried to dive down to their Mazda MPV stationwagon, which was nose down, more than a metre beneath the surface.

Silva Horton

“I tried to get down and get him but I couldn’t, it was just too deep. And Vanessa was going under,” Mr Horton said.

“I made a call to pull my wife to safety. I looked back and I could see the tail-lights but it was too far and I couldn’t get him.

“I just had to accept the fact that he had gone.

“Instead of going down and risking my life as well as my wife and son’s, I chose to take V back and sat on the shore praying. It was all I could do.”

When emergency services arrived minutes later, police also dived in, with two firefighters using breathing apparatus – a full face-mask with oxygen tank backpacks normally used in smoke-filled buildings – to try to reach Silva.

Wanganui senior station officer Gary Wilson said the water was dark and murky and the firefighters struggled to reach the car.

“We tried everything but to no avail. It was a longshot but it was worth the risk to try and save him.”

Mr Horton said the family had been at home when a group of kids was heard wrecking their letterbox.

The group ran off and his wife, Silva and Robert quickly followed them in the car.

As Mrs Horton slowly pulled over to talk to the group by the riverbank, the car “kept going” on the grass.

“I do know my son was unconscious when he drowned [after hitting his head on the dash]. It’s just a freak accident. We can’t blame anyone.

“I’ve forgiven the kids who were wrecking our letterbox,” Mr Horton said.

“My wife is emotionally distraught and drained, like I am.”

Divers recovered Silva’s body early yesterday. His funeral will be held in Taihape.

Mr Horton said Silva was an outgoing boy, who liked to spin a yarn, and was a budding moto-cross rider who won his age grade competition in Wanganui this year.

Now, I have no experience in stretching cartilage piercings, but I do have some experience with stre

Now, I have no experience in stretching cartilage piercings, but I do have some experience with stretching septums. So, most of the cartilage information is stuff i’ve picked up from other tutorials, and friends who have stretched. You may ask why? Well, there isn’t really a definite reason as to WHY you would stretch cartilage piercings, but theres no real reason why you’d stretch any piercings! So thats the history covered, lol.

Stretching your septum, is much like stretching another piercing. Except, the time differences between stretching, and the pain. It doesn’t hurt a whole lot more, but the only way I can describe it, is that it’s almost like a grinding pain. Due to your septum being pierced in the fleshy bit, not the cartilage, you’ll find it rubs against it and dents it as you get bigger. So, if you have a small fleshy bit, then bigger stretches are going to be harder. I myself can’t get past a 10g. Don’t know why, but doesn’t matter if I use tapers, pull on it, or even ask it nicely, it just will not go above a 10g. I probably could get an 8g in. But i’m not stupid and I will listen to my body. Its fine, I don’t want a big septum anyway, as far as i’m concerned my nose is big enough.

So, some places you can get your septum scalpeld, but not very many places will attempt it. Some will pierce with a large gauge needle, some places just generally will pierce it with a 14g (1.6) and leave it at that. Stretching the septum is generally pretty awkward, and you have to be ready to push a taper nearly the entire way through. You can’t exactly walk around with a huge taper sticking half way out your nose. BUT, there are several tools you can use to stretch your septum. jewellery called, “Claws”:

Beautiful isn’t it? These act like tapers, but are far more convenient, and are intentionally meant for the septum wearer. Generally, they only stick out a little bit, so it just looks like you have a few nose hairs. Attractive. These “claws” come in all sizes, and will generally get you up to an 00g pretty easily. But as I said, you gotta take it easy, and listen to your body. If you try stretching your septum, and it’s not ready, you will know! You will most likely shed a few tears, and have a sneezing fit.

Cartilage.

My experience of this, is minimal. And is generally what I read. Cartilage piercings, look great in the Conch, in the flats of the ears, and sometimes where industrials, or just regular cartilage piercings are. See below:

The tunnel at the top, is a stretched conch. Its one of my favourite cartilage piercings. There are more methods involved in getting this done, and one of the most favourable, is the dermal punch. This involves taking a “sterilised hole punch” to the ear, and punching it straight through the ear leaving a visible hole.

It’s graphic, and its sure as hell looks painful. But its the quickest way to a hole . Stretching it, you just go the normal taper method, and in time because of the weight of the jewellery and the placement in the ear, it’ll stretch over time, so i’m told.

Summer is always a good season for people doing various activities. They might go to the beach, work

Summer is always a good season for people doing various activities. They might go to the beach, working out in the park, playing tennis with friends, and other more activities which are fun and make them good.

For all good activities you going to do during that time, you need footwear to help you mobile. To make you feel good there are things you must consider when buying footwear.

First, you have to see where your direction is. Are you going to the beach or tennis court or other place?

Okay, since you know your direction is to the beach, you have to prepare water sandal. You will look gorgeous with your swimsuit on when wearing water sandal. There are few colors of water sandal; you can just pick which match with your swimsuit.

Water sandal can also be worn during rafting and kayaking. Also great for the shower, for rainy days, and can be used to protect your feet when swimming, diving, or beach walking. This water sandal is soft plastic sandals with heel straps for boating. Good ones can be reasonably comfortable and will last for quite a while.

Don’t ruin it by wearing socks or nylons with sandals. Most sandals are designed to be worn barefoot, so they won’t fit as well with hosiery. You just relax with your water sandals and don’t try to add something because it will looks wired.

You got your beach footwear; now let’s check your tennis shoes. Some refer to tennis shoes as a substitute term for sneakers or athletic shoes. Although tennis shoes are types of sneakers or types of athletic shoes, they are not the same. Tennis shoes were developed specifically for tennis, but have developed a more general appeal.

Tennis shoe brands most commonly include Puma, Adidas, Diadora, K-Swiss, New Balance, Nike, Prince, Reebok, Wilson etc. The type of tennis shoe that you choose should depend on the playing level you are in. The best players look for brands that extend support and stability.

If you are a hard core player, try to choose that has a molded plastic torsion bar that extends from the outsole to the lateral side of the upper. This prevents feet from rolling over when players stretch for a shot.

And if you want more recreational tennis shoes for lifestyle shoe, you need tennis shoes that offer flexibility and comfort, with a hint of style. The upper is a combination of mesh and suede, while the midsole and outsole are both polyurethane.

There are other more shoes for your summer holiday; it’s your choice where your direction is. So, start by knowing where you go, enjoy!

Most of us like shoes that look good. However, should this be at the risk of comfort and injury? The

Most of us like shoes that look good. However, should this be at the risk of comfort and injury? There are many styles of shoes that not only look good but also they feel good. It is not necessary to give up one for the other.

What To Look For

When trying shoes on wiggle the toes to check for freedom of movement.

If you notice any discomfort try a larger size because the pain will only get worse. Remember to check the sole for flexibility by bending the shoe. If the sole is rigid and does not move with you, this could be a prescription for latter discomfort resulting in painful feet.

Walking Shoes

If you are standing on your feet all day then shoe comfort can really a big issue.

Feet will spread more when standing than sitting. Arch support and adequate toe room are very important. You can easily check support by placing your hand inside the shoe and checking for padding in vital areas like the heel, balls of the feet and arches.

Shoe Widths

When it comes to shoes, there is no such thing as one size fits all.

Depending on the breadth of your feet, you can buy the same size shoe in wider or narrower widths. Women’s’ widths run from AA (narrow) to EE (extra wide). Parallel sizes for men are BB (narrow) to EEEE (extra wide).

Flat feet

If you have flat feet then proper arch support is necessary to avoid foot pain. The better shoemakers will include some form of arch support. If additional support is desired then these may also be purchased in the form of partial or full sole inserts for added comfort.

Shoe Insoles

Like a car shoes have shock absorbers to prevent your feet from feeling the total impact of the bumps in the road. Full size insoles with proper cushioning will protect multiple pressure points and reduce injuries.

Diabetic Shoes

Preventing ulceration of the feet due to excessive rubbing of the shoes can become a major concern if you have diabetes. Because of loss of sensation in the extremities, a diabetic may be unaware of blisters on the feet. Custom fitted shoes may be the best solution if over the counter products are not working.

Swelling Feet

If your feet tend to swell, then you may want to consider buying shoes a size larger to reduce any discomfort and tightness after feet have swollen.

Walking In Your Shoes

When trying on new pair of shoes do not forget walk around the shoe store to get a sense of how they will feel once purchased.

Shoe Materials

Shoe materials like suede and leather provide not only more flexibility but comfort because the material is able to conform to the shape of the foot and exert less resistance in sensitive areas.

Uncomfortable Shoes

Narrow toed and high-heeled shoes if worned to excess can eventually cause injuries to the ankles, calves, toes, back and knees. High-heeled shoes have been known to distribute weight unevenly causing extra pressure on the ball and front of the foot. Conditions such as hammertoes and bunions have been directly attributed to these kinds of shoes. Many podiatrists recommend shoes with a maximum height of no more than 1inch for maximum comfort.

Finally

Feet are one of our most precious possessions. Take care of them and they will serve you well for many years to come. Abuse them and pay the price.

The weekend that just passed was quite busy. On Friday I headed to our favourite karaoke-spot, Karaoke All, here in Kasumigaseki, together with a bunch of classmates. As usual, most of the class was there, split up in to different rooms, but constantly heading over to visit each others’ rooms.

Nathan and Ayumi karaoke:ing it up.

On Saturday I spent most day at home, except for a short excursion to the nearest UNIQLO and Shimamura to buy some warm clothes (if you’ve read my previous blog-posts, then you understand…), where I found some sweaters and a nice new black coat! The rest of the day was spent calmly at home, studying and playing around with my DSi (uhh I feel like a total otaku admitting this). On Sunday I went in to Kawagoe with Okaasan, Neechan and Neechan’s childhood friend, to attend some お茶会 (おちゃかい – ochakai = tea-ceremony. Although literally, it means “tea-meeting”). The first place we went to was located in a very old, traditional Japanese house, and I’m very happy to have gone there and have seen such a house, because it was really beautiful! The garden outside was just as beautiful, and felt as if the person who planned it many years ago must have really thought it all through before planting each individual bush, tree and flower.

In the old Japanese house.

The garden, seen from the inside.

The garden and part of the house.

The second place we went to was in a newer building, and by a temple that I’ve visited before. At this place we happened to meet Aya-san, who walked along with us JSP’s during the Kawagoe Matsuri, when we pulled the float. Very nice to meet her again, and this accidental meeting led us in to attending a simplified lesson of how to do the tea-ceremony, right after we had attended the “real” one. It was fun to get this lesson, and made me realise how much more complicated the real one is! My neechan sure is awesome, who does the real thing! I’m excited to get to learn the real thing from her, whenever we both have time. Although, there’s one thing I know I won’t be able to do very well at all, and that is seiza (正座 – せいざ) – when you sit down with your legs folded under you! After about 10 minutes my legs are dead, and I can’t stand up right after, but have to stretch my legs in front of me for about 5 minutes before I manage to get up and walk like an old lady. Doing seiza two times in a row is slightly more uncomfortable than, let’s say, getting your legs crushed by an elephant. Although the good part about being the only gaijin in these ochakai, is that everyone allows me to sit down a bit more comfortably whenever they notice that I’m about to die (or at least it feels like my legs will). It’s very embarrassing sitting down differently than everyone else, and I usually try to only do it long enough for my legs so start feeling somewhat normal again, then I hurry to seiza again.

In the second ochakai. Notice everyone doing seiza. Even the little girl…

One slightly annoying thing about being the only gaijin at these very Japanesey cultural events, is the photographers. Combine these: very Japanese cultural event + gaijin + gaijin doing the cultural thingie quite well + big fat camera. What do you get? Oh yes! TONS of photos being taken of the named gaijin (in this case me). I believe I will figure in a bunch of official photos for the next pamphlet/website of “things to do in Kawagoe” or whatever they use the photos for (there were several official-looking photographers there for some reason). All of these photographers made me nervous (I hate having my picture taken, and even more so when I have my glasses on…), so I made several tiny mistakes because of these, of course. Like forgetting to bow to the person to my left, before taking the tea in front of me. Ah yes, drinking the tea is a complicated process, not just simply enduring excruciating pain from doing seiza, eating the sweets offered and drinking the tea. You also have to bow to the right person, at the right moment, take the cup with the correct movements, spin it around a the right amount of times before you drink it, spin it back, bow some more etc etc. Luckily my neechan taught me all about it. Or somewhat at least. Enough to impress on all the Japanese that see me doing it, which is good enough for me, until I learn to seiza without wanting to chop my own legs off.

The sweets offered during an ochakai are usually these pretty, and just as tasty as they look! Gotta love them!

My tea-tray during the simplified lesson.

Despite my complaining about seiza, I actually don’t say anything about it during the tea-ceremony, but sit there stoically, enduring the pain, until some kind soul lets me rest for a bit. I have to practice, it’s embarrassing!

On Sunday evening I headed out to Tokyo, for my first speed-date ever! It took place in Iidabashi, at LeafCup, an English-teaching place, where I went for an interview a while ago. Just on a side-note: I didn’t go there because of the speed-dating, I went there just for a fun thing, to try something new, meet some new people and get out a bit.

The whole process was…quite embarrassing, but fun! It was the first speed-date that I’ve ever been to, and most likely the last! The purpose was for us all to make new friends, and for the guys to practice their English, and if anyone happened to actually find someone they liked, well that was just a bonus. We were about 20 gaijin girls and just as many Japanese guys, and got 2 minutes to talk with each person. Before that, we all got name-tags and had to fill in a short sheet with personal information, such as name, age, birthday, origin, height, interests, education/work etc, which saved us time from asking all these things during the 2 minutes we actually got to talk to each other. Most of the guys were quite nervous, and some simply just creepy (like the 40-year old salary-man…iiikkk!!!). Most seemed really nice though, and I’d love to be friends with several of them, like Akira, the sword-martial-artist with his own temple who was soon to smile.

When we had finished, we all gathered in the same room, and got about 30 minutes to mingle around and talk more to any interesting person. Pretty much immediately Kaoru, a nice and fun (but, alas, too short and not my type) guy started talking to me, and when the time was up we all had to write down our 3 favourites. At the end of the night the matches were announced, and guess who was first up? Oh yes, that would be me. With Kaoru. I only wrote down his name because I sort of had to write down 3 persons, and he was nice enough. The one I really would have wanted to get matched together with, had unfortunately not written my name on his list apparently, but on the other hand, he was surrounded by girls every free moment. Oh well. I had to rush to the train to head back home, and Kaoru was nice enough to walk me to the station and ask for my email. I totally forgot to ask for his, which I fear he might have taken as un-interest from my part. In one way it’s true, I’m only interested in being his friend, no more. But you can never have too many friends, right? Oh well, we’ll see if I get an email from him or not, he was nice and fun, and it would be nice to have Japanese friends my age.

Shaykh Hussain Al-Awaaishah | Language: English | Format: PDF | Pages: 32 | Size: 1.5 MB
The Prophet (salallahu alaihi wa salam) said, “If one of you is afflicted with a calamity, then let him remember his calamity by me (i.e., by my death); for indeed, it is the greatest of calamities.”

It becomes clear to us from this hadith that the death of the Prophet is the greatest disaster that has occurred or will occur to the Muslim nation. The Messenger of Allah (salallahu alaihi wa salam) requests that when we remember our calamities or afflictions, we should remember his death and his parting as well, a reflective process through which our other disasters will become insignificant in comparison.

Whenever we lost any of our relatives or loved-ones, we are sure to have felt the pain of parting from him and the anxiety of the farewell. The question now is this: Have we had any such feelings or sentiments when we contemplate the death of the Prophet (salallahu alaihi wa salam).

What would happen if a man were to lose his entire family; his heart would ache and bleed while his tears would pour forth profusely. He marries after a period, and after many years pass, one of his sons dies. What is his sadness and pain if compared to the first calamity; is not the new affliction less painful in degree? And with that perspective – i.e., by remembering the death of the Prophet (salallahu alaihi wa salam) – we should console ourselves whenever we are afflicted with a hardship.

For many of us, fear is the number one offender. It fills us with dread, affects us negatively both

For many of us, fear is the number one offender. It fills us with dread, affects us negatively both emotionally and physically, and we sometimes make decisions that are fear-based which we regret later. Fear can arise out of our perceptions, and let’s face it: a lot of us fear going to the dentist because we feel the experience is going to be a painful and stressful one. This is especially true with children. For them and their parents, the ordeal of a visit to the dentist can keep them from getting the treatment they need. Even oral sedation, or “numbing,” a method proven effective for preventing pain, can work better on some than others, and in some cases, it may not work at all.At 7 Day Dental, we are committed to painless dentistry and we do not want your children or you to avoid needed dental treatment because you fear pain. This is why we offer general anesthesia. Our board-certified anesthesiologists use an IV, or intravenous drip, which provides a safe, deep sedation, or sleep, to children and adults alike. Employing the same level of professional experience and type of equipment found in hospitals and surgery centers, our anesthesiologists carefully administer and regulate IV sedation for each patient, individually based on each one’s medical condition and the length of the procedure. There are few side effects, and patients can go home soon after. By literally sleeping through the entire dental procedure, patients not only avoid pain and discomfort, but also the stress and anxiety of hearing drills, feeling pressures, and simply being aware of the experience is eliminated. This is especially beneficial to children, who usually will not remember their dental treatment, and consequentially will have less dread seeing the dentist as they grow up.To illustrate this point, consider Johnny, a cute and energetic four-year old patient of ours. Like most children his age, Johnny enjoys candy and sodas. In Johnny’s case, it resulted in some pretty severe cavities in three of his front teeth. He came to 7 Day Dental several times to have his teeth treated, but regardless of how hard his dentist and his parents tried to calm and reassure Johnny, he would not allow the dentist to treat his teeth. He would squirm, kick, yell, and cry. We tried oral sedation, but this did not work for Johnny. When the decision was made to use IV sedation, however, the ordeal was over. While Johnny slept comfortably, his dentist repaired all three of his teeth in under an hour. Today, Johnny has a beautiful smile, and he doesn’t remember the experience at all. His parents are grateful for that smile, and we at 7 Day Dental are too, and a little proud that we could help.As this true story demonstrates, it is possible to have a stress-free, even comfortable visit to the dentist if you decide that you or your child would rather sleep during the entire affair. Children often do not recall the experience, and are less inclined to be fearful of the dentist. Because you or your child is relaxed and asleep, the dentist can also often complete all of the planned treatment at one time, allowing you to awaken with a beautiful smile!

I read one quote about love today by Theodor Storm… “Liebe ist nichts als die Angst des sterblichen Menschen vor dem Alleinsein” (Love is no more than the fear of the mortal human being of being alone). Storm was deep inside a romantic, while he uses his own experience with love and the painful truth of suffering through rejection and unfulfilled love. So true.
And then I watched new moon and again “love and pain” was the leading theme. In which Bella would put herself into danger just to see him and just to get the vision of being close. Love is so powerful it decides over us whether we ask her for or not, pain is the result no matter what and as many before also Bella agrees that the pain is what eventually shows her she is alive.
I try to tell myself the same thing each day and maybe that is why I am hurting myself. I need the security of being alive. Being in control is one way, but a painful way, because no one can ever control everything and even though my urge to be perfect is so incredibly strong it will in the end just leave me wounded and scared.
I have no sense of what else could be right, whatsoever, I am looking to find the answers to my nightly questions, the key to the lock of myself bearing the power of my soul to lead this life. I am lost still and all I do is try and all I can do is keep moving towards the right direction, whatever that may be.

For most of my life, I hated darkness. It gave the impression of being cold, uncaring, full of despair and exceedingly painful. For years, I was ignorant of just how much this fear affected me. One day, a gracious friend who has the gift of discernment shared with me that she could see a visible transformation in my countenance when the sun went down. She said I became quiet, fearful and clearly uncomfortable; moreover, she observed this in me numerous evenings. I was completely shocked by the revelation. Within days of learning about this ominous aspect of my life, I began to seek God for wisdom to understand this deep fear and how to replace it with peace and trust in Him. It was one more level of healing that was attained through a process of examining memories of things that occurred at night, walking through those memories with Christ Jesus with me, covering me in His love and prayerfully examining Bible verses about darkness and light. There are many Scriptures that have brought me comfort; the following is just one:

“For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” Colossians 1:9-14

I’ve been to the depths of your body,

Why?
Only for your pleasure.
Only because I think of what you’d think.
I hope you are pleased by me.
You make me how you want me,
Mold me like clay.
I transform before your eyes like magic.
But this one time,
When I beg you better respond,
when I plead, you must release me from your vice.
I am no longer your almighty wench, Earth.
I will no longer answer to your calls.
My tears run dry tonight,
my hope expired for months.

*Sigh*

The people of this earth will shatter at my will,
At least in my mind,
at least in my bound and gagged heart.
They are no longer the ligaments
That hold me at their will.
Tonight, I will no longer conform.
Tonight, I will be freed.
I am myself ’til the end.

If you try to forget the memories of your life you had before the divorce, if you excuse my pun

If you try to forget the memories of your life you had before the divorce, if you excuse my pun – forget it!

You can believe that there is no way to get past this kind of problem. You will not forget the good times have endured especially if those memories including children, of course, but there is a way – not to forget – but to neutralize what you feel about this painful.
Just as you can look back and laugh at an eventwas at the time, deeply embarrassing, it is possible to exploit this natural heritage mental abilities changing feelings, and sharing bad for a shrug of the shoulders and that once it has been painful, even a laugh!

Memories are something that we have for life. These are sometimes good and sometimes they are difficult to maintain. There are some cases where all we really want to do is to forget the world and focus on our lives.

This is true for all those who are divorcing. ThisMay be the most difficult moment of your life and you take the steps necessary to keep the good memories and do not forget the old – but the change!

Even if you have many bad memories, perhaps after a long marriage, you can still make changes.
I am not talking about rewriting history. I agree with you that this is impossible. What you should understand is that memories are going on in your head now – as a repetition of an old TV show – and since this is an event, it ismay change, as they may change their minds.

You can be divorced after long marriages. You've had your share of ups and downs and it is important for you to keep the good memories so that we can maintain a positive attitude towards life.

When going through a divorce, you feel everything will bring up a family memory. You want to make sure that you will be able to cope with these times and allfeelings that go with it.

You may need to find a way to help them confront and overcome the things I remember the good old days. In these moments, it is useful to have a "reference" to cling.

Think of something that makes you laugh out loud – maybe a good friend who always gets your funny bone or a favorite comedy moment that always cracks up – and that replay in your mind again and again.

Whenever you hear coming over the laughter, just press yourthumb and all, (anything as long as the same each time). After a dozen times, only the action of pressing will result in a mini-laugh!

Now, when something suddenly reminds us of the painful memories, the use of compression on the finger-up, and you begin to have the idea that, far from the thank you for your feelings, your feelings are under your control.

One of the worst aspects of pain and anger is the feeling thatare beyond your control. Now do not need to be!

Sometimes it is good to have memories back. There are many occasions when you have these feelings of old memories rushing back. You'll have the convenience of those memories until he is able to control how they make you feel.

You want to be able to keep these memories to the back of your mind, but you also want to be able to overcome the negative feelings that some of these memories leave in Mayfor you. These simple but powerful techniques will help you to do.

We must remember that there will be many more new memories for you and your family. You want to take solace in the fact that you still have a life to live and want to maximize the life you have now. You want to move forward and continue to enjoy the finer things in life as possible.

The worst thing you can do is try to shut down the memories that you createdwith someone you loved, but now you're more in love with this person. Try to end the pain will only focus on more, and close the pleasant memory of you cause more pain!

How you use these techniques, you will find a way to accept the fact that the past is past and you must live for the future and what he has in Serbian for you.

Divorce is not the end of the world – is, like all the finals, a new beginning –and you want to find ways to move beyond the pain and get good things ahead.

Upgrade is becoming a very bad word for me. It seems that every time I hear the word upgrade, especially at work (though this applies other places as well as I will tell you later), it ends up meaning much annoyance for me.

Last week at work we changed Internet providers. the system was really slow for two or three days, but by the end of the week, it was running pretty smoothly. Monday it was down for about seven hours. Which means I had NOTHING to do. I was at work for six of those hours very bored. It happened again today. It was only an hour or two today, but it was still annoying.

I was thinking about how obnoxious it is when we feel the need to “fix” things on my way to work this morning as I drove into the road construction that has plagued my commute for (not kidding) almost four years straight. It moves around some, but it is ever-present. The finished one street about a year ago and I was so relieved, but it only lasted a month or two before they tore up the very same road again and are still repaving (and widening) it.

Why can’t we just do it right the first time and then give it a rest for a while? Same with computer “upgrades”, why aren’t these things extensively tested BEFORE an entire company has to endure the problem of “upgrading.” Seriously. I would hate to see the actual dollar figure for how much this most recent ISP switch has cost my newspaper.

Ok, I’ll be done ranting for the moment.

Little drops caress my soul.
The wind blows my coat a little farther away.
I run a little faster…
This is my life.
Daily visits from similar storms…
I beg for a new life each time,
But all I get is this rainy day.
All I know is this rainy day.
The drops growing with each thump on my back,
I cannot stop them.
No blessings for a girl like me…
Drip, drip…
Those aren’t raindrops this time,
but instead a stream of drops
fleeing from my hating eyes.
Dripping down my wet face,
they infect my soul
and grasp the soul of passersby.
The people pause, stare, shake their heads,
walk away.
No one dares help a girl in need,
As if they can see the curséd cloud upon my heart,
following my every move.
Stormy days await me,
and for now I’ll accept that.
My Life is a Rainy Day.
