Palo Alto Woman Pulled Into Alley, Robbed
CBS San Francisco

PALO ALTO (CBS SF) — Police were asking the public for help tracking down a suspect who committed a strong-arm robbery Monday night in downtown Palo Alto, police said. The robbery happened about 10:45 p.m. Monday in the 200 block of Hamilton Avenue, police said. The victim, a woman in her 20s, waited until Tuesday to report the robbery, according to police. Investigators learned that the woman, who works at a downtown business, was heading west on Hamilton Avenue when a man grabbed her ponytail and pulled her into an alley between Ramona and Emerson streets, police said. The man demanded money from the victim and she complied, police said. He then fled the area through the alley, according to police. It was unknown whether the robbery was connected to any other downtown robberies this year, police said. The last robbery reported downtown was on March 3. The victim did not see the suspect and can only describe him as taller than 5-foot-5 with a deep, raspy voice, according to poli

Nooooooor Ashan

This blog is starting to look like a study of my own name.  I promise it won’t be, but I just thought of this while rereading my first post and remembered a couple of instances from my childhood. The first one was in kindergarten, my earliest school memory.  I was writing my name on my paper, and started out okay: “N”.  Then I proceeded with the “o”, and then another “o” … and for some reason I kept on going, “o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o” … I guess I just really liked making O’s.  I remember freaking out because I didn’t have an eraser, and raising my had and guiltily telling the teacher that I had messed up.  She told me, “That’s okay, you’ll just be ‘Noooooooooor’ today.”  I felt better. The second one was more agitating, and really set the tone for the rest of my K-12 life.  Another year, another teacher, I’m  not sure which but I’m betting 2nd grade, with Mrs. Beck.

A new chapter in my life – investing in our future.
BZNotes!

I spent much of the day yesterday with Salman Khan of Khan Academy, walking around the MIT campus and at events geared towards raising awareness and funds for his amazing effort to democratize education for all people of the world.  It was nice for both of us to walk around the campus where we not only got educated and ‘grew up’, but also found our spouses and some life-long friends. At one point in his talk at MIT Sal said “I am having the time of my life. I am pursuing my passions”. I could not agree with him more. As an entrepreneur and an investor, I have been privileged to be able to do the same for the last 10 years of my life. A new chapter in that life begins today as I announce starting June I will join Lux Capital as a partner in their Palo Alto office to continue to do what I am passionate about: investing in our future. Lux Capital is a NYC and Palo Alto based venture capital firm focused on founding, seeding and making early stage investments in emerging technologies. I ha

We Put Veterans First? Bullsh*t! Socialized Medicine in Action.
Code-Yankee!

I am a military veteran. In 1995, I was injured during a routine counter-drug operation in Panama. A CT scan showed that the accident had caused disc displacement and bulging in my lower back (lumbar) and my upper back. Throughout the rest of my military career, I suffered intermittent problems severe enough to cause terrific pain in my lower back and other pain and weakness problems in my legs, feet, arms and neck. By the time I retired from the military on June 1, 2009, I could be on my feet no more than 30 minutes at a time without suffering back muscle spasms. I carried medication with me everywhere I went. My ability to work the job of my choice came to an end within six months of my departure from the military. I spent the next year trying unsuccessfully to find alternative work that would accommodate my all-to-frequent back problems that left me bedridden and drug addled. Since 2011, the VA has been responsible for my medical care. It has been a battle to get effective treatment

Rep. Paul Ryan Endorses LGBT Adoption, While Newt Gingrich Digs In Against Equality
Bondings 2.0

Paul Ryan As marriage equality becomes law in state after state, related legal matters like adoption rights for LGBT individuals and same-gender couples are gaining public attention. Catholic public figures are reviewing long-standing positions by the hierarchy anew, with Republican Congressman Paul Ryan  endorsing equal adoption rights and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich speaking strongly against what he perceives as anti-Christian laws. Rep. Ryan, a Catholic, spoke at a town hall in Wisconsin last week where an attendee questioned him about a poor rating with the Human Rights Campaign, specifically a 1999 vote against allowing same-gender couples in the District of Columbia to adopt. David Gibson reports on the comments at Religion News Service, quoting Rep. Ryan as saying: “Adoption, I’d vote differently these days. That was I think a vote I took in my first term, 1999 or 2000. I do believe that if there are children who are orphans who do not have a loving person or couple, I th
