Viruses, Trojan, Malware, Why education is the only way

By now you have probably had one of the above or know someone that has had a run in with them.  With 99% of all email on the Internet being JUNK or SPAM most Malware is spread through email.  The new method of Malware ditribution is now via websites.  50% of all Malware infections are now from web pages.  Some of the sites that have been infected in the past are Twitter and Wikipedia.  I have witnessed myself an attempted  infection from a product review web site.

Here are the best ways to reduce or prevent an attack.

Always run a reputable AntiVirus product.  There is a disagreement if free software is worth the price.  My feeling is that anything is better than nothing, but poor software can give you a false sense of security.  Microsoft has released their Security Essentials and it is one of the best FREE security products available for individual computers.

Do not download software from file sharing sites.  Most of the software on these sites is infected with various viruses and malware.  It has even been reported that organized crime is hacking software and movies and posting them on these sites to gain access to peoples computers and money to help further their cause.

Practise safe surfing and emailing.  Large companies will never send you an email with a ZIP file in it and large software companies will not send you an email with a link to update or speed up their software.

The #1 infection we have been seeing for the past 2 months is a “fake anti-virus program”.  90% of all computers that we have had to clean have this virus on it.  It has come to the user as an email with a ZIP attachment from Adobe claimng to be an update or an email from a large shipping company claiming to be a label or tracking information.  Do not open these emails, they are all fake.  This has been the hardest virus to prevent since protection alone can not prevent it since the user is choosing to install it.  The other problem is that the virus is changing every week and the Anti-Virus vendors can not keep up with it.  The only way to is to educate your staff and prevent them from getting the email or opening the email.

Gold Panda; one of the best live knob twiddlers I’ve had the pleasure of encountering.

Mr Panda was one of the highlights of a series of amazing performance at the recent Nail the Cross festival in New Cross. Nail the Cross also featured Hudson Mohawke, Joy Orbison and a stellar Hyperdub stage amongst other great great acts. It’s better down South East. Props to No Pain in Pop, Adventures in the Beetroot Field and everyone else involved.

Other than celebrities and the Royal Family of Thailand, the most photographed person or animal this year has to be the the first baby panda born in Thailand. Earlier this year, the first baby panda was born in Thailand and the media just went crazy over the little guy. On the nationmultimedia.com website (the website for the Nation newspaper), they have had a picture of the little guy on the website almost every day. Channel 3 still shows videos of the the baby panda at least once a week. No creature, event or person has been so overexposed as this baby panda.
Corporations have,of course, have latched themselves to the baby panda bandwagon. They have done contests based on this animal. They have put his image on their packaging and their T-shirts. If this was the United States, he would have been on every news network and all sorts of memorabilia would be dedicated to this little panda such as key chains, T-shirts, lunch boxes, cereal boxes, etc. There would be a reality show showing the daily lives of the baby panda and his family. In the States, there would be no limits as to how they would exploit this little guy.
Why Thais have gone so crazy over this little creature is not known. It just might be that in a country that has been so full of bad news lately; it is just good to have some good news. Thais can say that they accomplished one thing and that is to have a panda born in captivity, a rare feat that even Americans have had trouble doing.

As I mentioned in the contest post, I did not select a random winner, but instead let someone else choose the winning pair of names. Its been a pretty hectic month, especially with the Holidays coming up and trying to get new items out before then!

As I said in my previous post, Annyka Bekkers of Blowpop very recently released a bunch of new items, and instead of putting everything all in one giant post, I want to savor each pretty

Today I want to talk about Cassie! The Cassie Low-rise Boyshorts & Bra set, that is. Click on the images to see larger versions:

The texturing on this set is gorgeous. Yes, it may all be virtual, but you can almost *feel* how soft and comfy these bra and panty sets are! The shading and highlighting are perfect, accentuating curves in all the right places. I really like the light shading right at the band above the ribcage area, which gives the bra a nice three-dimensional feel.

Cassie sets are available in a lot of delicious colors, and they all look fantastic. I also think these babies are a great bargain at the price they’re set, and I totally say go for the fatpack! That way you get to mix and match the colors, too, which is fun I own a lot of underwear, swimwear, and lingerie because I like to use these types of items in my shape ads for my store, and just based on my own personal consumer experience I’d have to say Annyka is arguably one of the best designers you’ll find on the grid right now, period. Seriously. I love her stuff.

The knit button boots I’m wearing in these shots are from a Japanese designer named Masami Niekerk. I’d actually found her boots by accident while browsing mindlessly through Xstreet. The boots are loaded with texture change options and walking sounds. I’m actually not a fan of shoes with sounds, but I loved all the sweet color options and it was only 10L! Speaking of Xstreet, I’m kind of sad about the impending changes that will be made to that site. I realize Linden Lab wants to create a marketplace that isn’t so cluttered, but once these new fees go into effect I sincerely doubt we’re going to find these sorts of gems anymore.

I’m also using LAQ’s latest Glow Skin release, Drew. Drew was actually an original Portrait Skin line face, but Mallory Cowen has given her the Glow treatment and the result is beautiful. Drew is available in three skintones. With each tone pack, you get ten makeups and a hairbase option for each.

Around the same time I tried on the Cassie undies, Carson bought a vacuum cleaner for me! It’s the Meggasuc Vacuum from -RC- Cluster and when you attach it to your avatar, a vacuuming animation takes place. I think it’s super cute, and tried it out in our new skybox that Carson’s been putting together. I loved it so much I had to take a vid, hehe.

And, see? The undies are so comfortable I like wearing them while doing housework.

It’s been a while since my last entry. I guess I’m not inspired enough to write something witty or close to it. Or maybe I’m just preoccupied with other stuff. Or maybe I’m just a sorry loser who thinks that he can continue doing this kind of stuff in the long run. But I think I’m sure of something here. I’m not experiencing a tragedy in my life now. If I am, I’m pretty sure I may be able to write a thing or two. I guess I’m happy and contented on whatever situation I am going through right now. It hurts at times, but I guess I’m pretty used to it now. I’ve been hurt in the past, so I guess I can take a few more hurts. If I can’t anymore, I’m not really sure.  But for the meantime, I guess glancing the other way isn’t a bad alternative.
