I went shopping on Black Friday. However, I am not one of those people that wake up at an ungodly ho

I went shopping on Black Friday. However, I am not one of those people that wake up at an ungodly hour to go shopping. I like my sleep and I don’t want to deal with the possibility of being trampled. I did go in the afternoon when it was less… insane to say the least.

I found something very disturbing which made me weep for humanity. Technically this was on Wednesday and not on Black Friday, but it was still at the mall. Just an FYI, I hate Twilight and anything dealing with sparkly vampires. The vampires I grew up with were terrifying and killed people. None of this sparkling, stalking, and general weakminded-ness of female characters.

I was in a toy store and saw a woman whom I am guessing is in her 30’s and she was wearing a “My Husband Sparkles” tshirt. A middle-age woman. Oh dear God. There are better male characters that are so much better than Edward Cullen. Edward Cullen has nothing on Mr. Darcy. Edward is a pathetic excuse of a character with no redeeming qualities whatsoever. I wish people would get over mooning over him and this God awful franchise soon.

And then I find this on FML, which I find very fitting for the situation:

Today, I woke up and looked in the mirror and noticed that my face was covered in glitter. I asked my wife about it and she said she put it on me while I was sleeping so that I would sparkle like Edward from Twilight when I’m in the sunlight. FML

And then I went to Borders, and I think in my head this was Borders way of making my day better after seeing that tshirt. There is a reason why bookstores are my happy place.

Invasion of adorable pandas!

Borders was invaded by plush pandas. All of the floor associates were not only handing out flyers, but were carrying pandas everywhere they went. And I kinda really wanted one. A lot. They were soft, fuzzy, and adorable. I’m a sucker for all three of those adjectives, especially if they’re in the same sentence.

It was supposed to be a promotion of a new children’s book about a panda. This wasn’t a random invasion of pandas.

Two giant pandas from China were welcomed to Australia with gifts of bamboo and a city party before

Two giant pandas from China were welcomed to Australia with gifts of bamboo and a city party before settling into their new home, a twenty five acre natural enclosure at the Adelaide Zoo.

Four year old male Wang Wang and 3 year-old female Fu Ni are on loan to the zoo for 10 years as part of a joint research program, and their arrival comes amid slightly strained relations between China and Australia.

The pandas were given a police escort to the zoo, which built a $7.25 million enclosure that includes bamboo plants and refrigerated rocks to keep them comfortable in Adelaide’s hot summers. Two Chinese handlers traveled with the pandas and will stay in Adelaide for a few months to help with their adjustment.

“They’re in the quarantine area and they are looking very happy and relaxed,” zoo spokeswoman Emily Rice said as they animals settled into their new quarters, stretching their legs and munching on fruit.

The pandas will be in quarantine at the zoo for 30 days, but will be visible to the public behind glass when their exhibit opens on December 14th.

Twelve life size panda figures lined the runway at the Adelaide airport, where the animals’ flight was met by state Premier Mike Rann and other state and zoo officials holding a “Welcome” sign and branches of bamboo.

An 18 vehicle convoy of floats then left the airport for downtown Adelaide, where a parade through the streets was followed by a public party lasting all afternoon.

The two pandas had been living at the Bifengxia Giant Panda Breeding Center in Ya’an City in southwestern Sichuan province, after the Wolong Giant Panda Research Center where they were living was destroyed in a massive earthquake last year.

Only about 1,600 of the animals live in the wild, while another 120 are in Chinese breeding facilities and zoos.

China uses payments from zoos that host loaned pandas to fund research and breeding programs. Under such loan agreements, any panda cubs born overseas to lent animals remain China’s property.

The pandas are expected to generate more than $600 million for the South Australia state economy during their time here, with an anticipated 262,000 overseas visitors and 1.3 million Australians visiting Adelaide to see the animals.

China often sends gifts of its unofficial national mascot to foreign nations as a sign of friendship. Chinese President Hu Jintao offered the pandas as a goodwill gesture during a 2007 visit to Australia.

So the zoo was fantastic!! I really liked it. Although I do have to say that I felt a little bit sad

So the zoo was fantastic!! I really liked it. Although I do have to say that I felt a little bit sad, seeing all the animals contained. I mean, I guess it’s good because they are safe and protected. But we saw these poor eagles that probably never get to spread their wings and really fly. That made me feel a little bit sad, but other than that I really enjoyed myself.

The Koalas, which I don’t think I have ever seen before, they were so cute! And all getting high on Eucalyptus, it smelled so good!

Here I am searching for a kleenex for John. He likes to snap pictures of me, whenever he holds the camera.

The Meerkats were really cute. One was just lying on it’s back, like it was waiting for a belly rub, and the other one running around like crazy checking everyone out!

The zoo is really big. We spent a good 5 and a half hours there. There is a bus ride you can take around the whole park that takes about an hour, but we decided to just go it on foot. We did however do the aerial tram. It was really cool, and from the top we had a great view of San Diego from it. It’s pretty short, about 4 minutes from one side to the other.

After checking out some of the animals, we decided to have lunch. We found a little restaurant in the trees, near the Gorillas, called Albert’s. It was great. Something different from the usual hotdogs and burgers. I had a Portobello mushroom wrap and fries, and John had a chicken sandwich and fries. They also gave us fresh-baked bread to start, and it was still warm! Yummy!

Probably the most entertaining of the animals were the Orangutans. We were standing by the glass watching this little one play with a burlap sack, and then this other bigger one, came right up to me at the glass. It was pretty cute.

It was hard to get really good pictures through the glass. The lions were magnificent also. They were both just lazing around, but we got so close to the female because she was right next to the glass. And the male’s gaze kept following me. I think he just liked my red shirt.

Isn’t she beautiful? Looks like you could snuggle right up with her.

I think that the animal I liked best were the pandas. Both the pandas we saw were born in captivity at the San Diego zoo. They were so cute. I think I really like pandas because when I was little, pandas came to stay at the Calgary Zoo. It was a special exhibit, and my mom took me to a special event called “Breakfast with the Pandas”. We had to get up really early, they served us breakfast and then we got to see the pandas eat their breakfast up close with next to no one around. It was really cool, and one of those memories that has really stuck with me. (So thanks Mom!)

Aren’t they so cute? They remind me of Solomon, because of their cute faces.

So after the zoo, we were pretty tired. We decided to just head back to the hotel and veg. We watched tv and ordered room service. It was a perfect end to a great day. I like these kind of vacations where nothing is really planned, and we just do whatever!

Just returned from a lovely mini-getaway in Lille, France. (just 1 hour and 15 minutes by Eurostar from London St. Pancras) This city has everything you need for a short get away. Lovely shops, beautiful buildings, museums, food markets, gorgeous food and even a zoo, all packed into this quaint little town called Lille.

Hotel Des Tours

I decided to book this holiday to celebrate my husband’s birthday. We stayed at Hotel des Tours , centrally located in the heart of Lille’s Old Town. We had a lovely stay. As with most European cities, hotel room size is small but it had everything we need – TV, mini bar, good comfy bed, bright and clean bathroom with modern hair dryer. Hot breakfast was included every morning and check out time is 12pm. The Concierge pleasant. I requested a birthday cake delivery to our room prior to arrival and it was done with ease.

Minor set backs…

The drain in the bathtub made a loud noise during the night

there was smell of cigarettes in the hall that seeped into our room from neighbours who were smoking (even though this is supposed to be a smoke-free hotel). However, it wasn’t worth complaining for a 2 nights’ stay.

No safe in the room itself and the bathroom in our suite was rather dark but clean. It also had a funny looking old-style hair dryer that I can’t help but post a photo here to share…

It does the job and dried my hair but if you’re looking for ultimate chic and modern, then this hotel is perhaps not for you. Breakfast was included (price per night is a little more expensive than Hotel des Tours) with fresh french bread, deli meats, cheese, mini croissants and lovely spread each morning. The staff were professional and efficient and friendly.

Sights & Attractions

Make your way to the Grand’ Place and allow yourself to get just a little lost to discover the beautiful city of Lille. Below are some highlights and fun attractions.

Today was a bad day. I lost the feeling. It is so precious to me, I should cherish it like a softbal

Today was a bad day. I lost the feeling. It is so precious to me, I should cherish it like a softball sized diamond, and yet I throw it away. So lets reflect on the day shall we?.

Well I woke up, haha, so abnormal right? I had to get ready fast because I had Narnia rehearsal this morning and we normally have a family breakfast Saturday mornings. We went to our favorite taqueria that resides just down the street from our house. I had my usual breakfast burrito with beans, eggs, and potatoes. Swimming in salsa, it was amazing. Now if I was treating myself correctly I would have eaten no more than a fourth of it, but I consumed the whole thing. I told myself “It’s fine I will be full now all day, and I wont have to eat again today. I will move on tomorrow”. Then I went to rehearsal.

Halfway through rehearsal was snack time. It is a children’s theater so it is custom to have a break with a little snack and I ate two gram crackers. Why did I do this? I wasnt hungry, I wasnt bored. I ate them because they were there. I didnt even think, just saw it, grabbed it, and put it in my mouth.

Rehearsal finally ended and the beginners show began. The beginners conservatory this fall is Little Red Riding hood. I dressed all the children, talk about stress. And then ventured over to the next door coffee shop with my fellow stressed out individual for some coffee goodness. Being stressed out and a comfort eater this was not a good decision. I ordered a medium blended iced mocha! I even asked for whipped cream. It was the richest thing I think I have ever eaten.

Then it was back to the theater to undress all the children and head to basketball practice. I went to practice and once I got home I had four pieces of Cinnabon cinnamon swirl toast. I still felt empty and unhappy so I made some mashed potatoes. I ate them all and then had some crackers with peanut butter.

Talk about binge eating… holy cow! I feel so full I could die. So I decided to take a shower. It always helps get me back on track to see myself in the mirror with nothing on.

After I finished with all of that and now that I was all clean and refreshed (kinda refreshed, I’m still hating myself for today) I looked for something comfy and baggy to wear. I have a favorite set of pajamas that I got last christmas that have panda bears and bamboo all over them and I chose those. They arent super baggy which I like, step in the right direction I think, and they are super cute. They made me feel so much better.

I have to get the feeling back, I should finally get it and stop at nothing to lose it. Why cant I just do what is right? Why cant I think about my happiness and what will make me feel good? I only think about the moment and what I want not what I truly need for my wellbeing.

Panda bears saving my sanity today.

My husband Dr Ken Lichtenwalter and I were honored to meet and lunch with Cynthia Harnish. This amazing woman had a vision & become President & CEO of Inner-City Arts.

I know that Pandas affects our children in many ways as the autoimmune response overtakes the basil ganglia of the brain. I know because this happened to our son Jamie. He lost all fine motor skills in the blink of an eye. We need to give back to our children the talent they were born with. Let’s not allow PANDAS & PITAND to CRIPPLE our incredible, wonderful, bright children any longer.

My daughter, Tania and I MET with Dr Robert Reichler this morning in SEATTLE, WA. He needs help with this mission as he is being sought out to treat our children with PANDAS in his soon to be formed Seattle Clinic but needs Child Psychiatrists, Psychologists, immunologists, rheumotologists and scientists interested in devoting their careers to looking further into the causes of, markers & treatment options for Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Strep and OCD. If you are interested in helping our cause please respond to my email address.
Marcicooynhc@gmail.com. I will then forward on your information to Dr Robert Reichler. THANK YOU FOR CARING about the FUTURE of OUR CHILDREN. Once we get our staff together we will begin our quest for funding which will be critical to this endeavor.

The amazing Jane Lynch got her big break in the movie Best in Show. Last week she spoke with Terry Gross on Fresh Air, and it’s a delightful interview. Who knew Terry snorts a little when she laughs? Adorable! We get to hear it because Lynch is so damn funny and sends Terry into a couple of giggle fits. I laughed out loud on the bus a couple of times myself. Lynch is promoting her new show Glee, which speaking of delights … if you’re not a fan already, tune in Wednesdays on Fox.

Best in Show was a fabulous movie. Lynch and Jennifer Coolidge are an amazing comedic pair; they are perfectly ridiculous together.

And speaking of perfectly ridiculous, you simply must check this out. I have never heard of “Creative Grooming” shows before, but unless this is a giant hoax, these poor Poodles are all dolled up and ready to take top prize. These are just two of my favorite photos by Ren Netherland who, according to the article, “travels thousands of miles each year to attend each competition.” Remember: these are Poodles.

Finally, someone to understand all the battles involved with Pediatric Autoimmune Disorders causing Mental Illness Symptoms. This review by Holly Jahangiri illustrates all the wasted energy parents must spend “convincing” the medical community of PANDAS existance. Dr Robert Reichler and others have seen this since 2001.
vocab checks on all computer applications…
MS Office…
Blogger…
Twitter…
MSN…
anything…

there have been too many misuses of words…
i don’t even know if misuses is the correct word now…

…

got my handphone bill recently…
data usage…
for 384MB…
is $1917…
what??…
a whopping $1917…
lucky the data comes for free in my subscription…
but seriously…
in this age…
data costs so much?…

Singapore is receiving 2 pandas from China…
now what would they be called?…
the pandas they passed to Taiwan and Hong Kong all have some auspicious names…
so i guess AA and TT would be out of the equation…
localisation people~!!…

actually we do not really need pandas in the zoo to be reminded of China’s influence…
you just need to visit any corner of Singapore…
ANY…

i have a confession to make…
a confession that makes me start to wonder are all guys like this…

lately…
i discovered that i feel a sudden surge of joy everytime when i string a combo attack or acquire some cool-looking equipment while playing games…
are all boys like that?…

i was pretty ashamed at first…
why did go all excited when i see a wave of slashes on a monster…
hm…

i guess there is really a kid in all of us…
just took me by surprised…
because i always pride on the fact that i behave like a kid…
now i feel like a kid too…

i got to start visiting those animal dueling card machines in arcades…
then again…
i probably cannot recover if a kid actually defeat me in that…

just a thought…
slightly evil one…
but a good brain exercise nevertheless…

since pandas are such treasured creatures in China…
wouldn’t it be a bummer if the 2 pandas suffered any misfortune during their stay over here?…

think about it…

if one day while feeding the adorable animals…
the foreign worker from India was suddenly assaulted by the panda…
u have a rifle in ur hands and u need to kill one to save the other…

which one do u choose?…

would either nation go war on us because of ur choice?…

in either case…
u are not allowed to shoot both of them…

and…

f**k u in advance if u are an animal killer…

man killer goes to prison…
animal killer goes to hell~!…

u remember that…

by the way…
i will give u a sneak peek of the China Zoo soon…

try saying the above sentence really quick…
Zoo soon…

hahaha…

Last night Beth A Maloney was seen on FoxLA channel 11 at 10PM. Sammy’s case was presented on the Medical Detectives segment. It saddens me to think about all of the suffering children with PANDAS and other Neuropsychiatric Autoimmune Disorders. Parents need their Physician’s support. PLEASE DOCTORS listen to your patients and family members. Be willing to go out of your comfort zone and look into all possibilities. The world is everchanging. There are conditions which may not be listed in your medical text books. Do not dismiss these patients simply because you do not know the answers. Please take the time and do the research. This is what Dr Robert Reichler, founder of the Pacific Institute of Mental Health did for our family. Because of his love and passion for children with OCD, our son is well and thriving. Hopefully, because of Beth Maloney’s efforts, other children will get immediate attention to these disabling conditions and needless childhood suffering will be wiped out. Amoxicillin was the answer for our son, as his condition was related to a strep trigger. There is much more research needed to find other treatments for similar conditions without the strep component.

The thing about having pandas is… You bear the responsibility of making them procreate.

They’re like a Japanese puzzle box: If you manage to figure them out, well, good for you. If you don’t, your failure is widely publicised and you’re either technologically stupid or just generally incompetent.

As a physical manifestation of something that is alive however, pandas are very Chinese: there is a general subtlety that should not be overlooked. If you do, things can break down quite abruptly and obviously you won’t even know why – “Oops.”

Bowled over by gift of pandas:

Bowled over by gift of pandas
AFTER reading yesterday’s report, ‘China sending two pandas to Singapore’, I would like to thank Chinese President Hu Jintao and the Chinese government and its people for the two wonderful gifts of VIPs (Very Important Pandas).

Singapore is indeed honoured to receive such VIPs because pandas are China’s national treasures.

I am a nature and animal lover and it is a dream come true that Singapore will receive the two VIPs by 2011.

I believe many in Singapore will look forward to visiting the two VIPs at the zoo when they arrive.

I also hope the two VIPs will produce baby pandas during their stay in Singapore, so as to help increase the population of pandas.

Last but not least, I would like to welcome President Hu to Singapore for the Apec 2009 meeting and wish him and all Chinese in China the best of health.

Over 100 University of Adelaide students hope to become volunteers at Adelaide Zoo in the coming months.

The eager students recently attended a briefing session held in Union Hall and hosted by Zoos SA staff. In conjunction with the University of Adelaide, Zoos SA has been running a recruitment drive for volunteers with Chinese language skills or an interest in animals to cope with the anticipated increase in visitors when the Giant Pandas Wang Wang and Funi arrive later this year.

At the briefing the students were given an insight into what it means to be a volunteer at Adelaide Zoo, including what a typical day might involve. The students, once trained and qualified, will become members of the general volunteer pool and will perform a number of duties around the Zoo. The University of Adelaide is generously covering a number of costs for the student volunteers including their membership with the Royal Zoological of SA and special uniforms sporting the university crest. Next time you visit Adelaide Zoo, remember to look out for one of our student volunteer guides!
