Throughout the ages of the advertisement industry, music has played a huge part in the promotion process. Most recent examples of this is Apple’s Ipod Ad with ‘Jerk it out’ by The Caesars, MacDonald’s slogan ‘I’m Loving It’ by Justine Timberlake, and of course Pepsi’s remake of ‘We Will Rock You’ featuring Britney Spears, Beyonce and Pink. But once again Coca-Cola has outplayed its competitors with its new uplifting/self-inspiring song from the combined efforts of Janelle Monae, Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump, Panic at the Disco’s Brendon Urie, Gym Class Heroes’ Travis McCoy and who else but Gnarls Barkley himself. This single has been around for a few months now, but with Cola’s new summer line of advertisement reinforcing their new slogan ‘open up happiness,’ there is no doubt this will be topping charts soon.

the absolute worst of this millennium has to be given to guitar legend Jeff Beck (Ottawa 2008) who is a hundred years old and still wearing crazy glam rock glitter spandex from the 70s with a crosss-breed haircut of Brian May and Rod Stewart. Just like sports stars, you gotta retire with grace. Jeff missed that theory. we left after forty minutes of utter drivel and stumbled on an amazing samba band who were a lot more fun!

First, a note about the direction of CKTK. We will be posting our end-0f-the-decade thoughts soon. Also, our top albums of 2009 lists will drop in mid-to-late-December. To lead up to those, we will be posting our top ten albums of the year lists from 2005-2008, sans commentary. We will, of course, link to places online where that commentary is posted if it’s floating out there somewhere. We will also be creating new content, so that the site doesn’t just turn into “Listapalooza 2009″.

These lists will appear unchanged from when we originally wrote them toward the end of each year. This should show you a little bit about what to expect from each author, and hopefully, it will inspire you to go back and listen to some of those great albums that you’ve forgotten from those years.

Huil maar Brendon

Het emobandje dat in 2005 zo’n succesvol debuutje neerzette, wat is daar toch van geworden? Tsja. Het tweede album (als je het nog meegekregen hebt) kwam begin 2008 uit en verkocht ’slechts’ 1 miljoen exemplaren (het debuut verkocht 2,2 miljoen keer). Op dat tweede album besloten de jongens wat meer commerciële kutmuziek te gaan maken die nog beter zou verkopen. Nou, dat heeft z’n vruchten afgeworpen. Afgelopen juli hebben 2 bandleden (bassist en gitarist) de benen genomen wegens ‘creatieve meningsverschillen’. Tsja, dan weet je wel hoe laat het is. Ze zijn samen een nieuw bandje begonnen dat klinkt als een leuk geprobeerde Beatles-ripoff (vandaar die meningsverschillen!). Begin 2010 zou het derde album uit moeten komen. Het zal dus niet lang meer duren voor deze flater (kutreclame alert!) in de schappen ligt.

Kortom, het typische verhaal wat je kan verwachten van zo’n hypebandje dat ineens uit de lucht komt vallen: ze stijgen net zo snel weer op in diezelfde lucht. En dat is misschien maar goed ook, want eigenlijk had leadzanger Brendon Urie gewoon een irritante kutstem. Exit!

House of Heroes x Panic! At the Disco

Um duelo dos grandes. O House of Heroes surgiu no ultimo ano como uma das revelaçoes de 2008/2009, ganhando espaço e respeito no cenario do rock cristão com sua pegada bem indie alternativa e hits muitos loucos. Em contrapartida, seus rivais são é ninguem menos que o Panic! At The Disco que explodiu em 2005-2006 no auge da moda emo, onde mostrava ma persperctiva meio teatral-circense com letras ousadas sob um ritmo envolvente, como foi o caso do álbum A Fever You Can’t Swat Out, e no álbum seguinte Pretty Odd mantendo mais a linha do pop indie lembrando em muito os Beattles, algo também feito pelos caras do House of Heores que lançaram um EP com algumas versoes do grupo de Liverpool.

Blindside x The Used

Um pouco do emo gritado, ou secreamo, se preferirem. Nesse embate, os suecos do Blindside e o vocal rasgado de Christian Lindskog contra o emo agressivo do The Used de Bert McCkraken. Sobre as bandas, uma sonoridade agressiva com guitarras distorcidas, tratando de dilemas e sofrimentos (bem típico da onda emo) e sem falar, claro, o visual retô com direito a franjas.

Sabe aquele tipo de musica que segue aquela cadencia lenta, meio deprê, meio cult, e que embora muitas vezes dá sono, mas quando paramos pra observá-la em geral, vemos quão grande é a sua qualidade? Pois bem, esse é o estilo aqui mostrado por duas grandes bandas: o Cool Hand Luke e o tão conhecido Radiohead. Os fãs do Radiohead já conhecem há tempos a qualidade da banda oriunda de Oxford com seu rock experimetal profundo, ao passo que o Cool Hand Luke pode parecer simplório de inicio, mas basta uma singela observação na musicalidade da banda que a destaca para um alto nível. Um dos pontos fortes do CHL são as letras, profundamente voltadas a mensagens fé cristã e louvando sobretudo Deus.

O que pode ser considerado emo à primeira vista, logo tem seu conceito mudado, como é o visual do 30 Seconds To Mars que tem por líder o ator Jared Leto, talvez por isso, o visual, mas musicalmente, o A Life Echoed tem um som silmilar aos atores, alem de ser um som mais positive enfocado nas tematicas da vida, ao contrario do que acontece na banda californaina falando mais de temas exitenciais. Enfim, grandes bandas, embora o Life Echoed nao seja muito conhecido do cenario gospel, ainda mais pra nós brazucas.

Fazia tanto, mas tanto tempo que eu não tinha uma DR que já nem sabia mais as estratégias para fazê-la terminar logo. Perdi a mão nas traquitanas, não soube fazer humor para desviar o foco da briga, coisa em que era mestra antes. Odeio DR. Odeio procurar o sentido da vida no meio de um escombro de palavras impensadas e ditas.

Interessante que o tempo que passou entre a última DR e essa é proporcional ao tempo de outra experiência. Minha psicóloga vai vibrar com as pecinhas do seu Lego virtual se encaixando. Já posso vê-la batendo palminhas quando eu concordar que nada, absolutamente nada é por acaso.

2007 Marilyn Manson ออกอลบัม Drink Me Eat Me แต่ไม่ประสพน์ความสำเร็จเท่า The Golden Age Of Grotesque Twiggy Ramirez กลับมาอีกครั้งในปีเดียวกัน เขาบอกว่า ยิ่งอยู่ห่างจาก Manson เท่าไร ก็ทำให้เขาคิดถึงมากขึ้น Tim Skold ได้กลับไปอยู่วงเดิม คือ KMFDM ในปี 2009

ปี 2008 Marilyn Manson พบกับปัญหาอีกครั้งเมื่อ Pogo หรือ Madonna Wayne Gacy ออกจากวง และฟ้องเขาว่าวักลอบเงินวง เช่น ซื้อชุดเมียฮิตเลอร์ ให้แก่ Dita และจ่ายเงิน 12 ล้านเหรียญให้แก่ Evan Rachel Wood ใน Heart-Shaped Glasses Video และยังซื้อกระดูกเด็กจีนเป็น collection ของตัวเอง

2009 ต้นปี อลบัม The High End of Low ออกมาโดยความช่วยเหลือส่วนใหญ่เป็นของ Twiggy Ramirez หรือ Jeordie White แม้เขาจะเสียเวลามากกับวง Marilyn Manson เขาก็ยังไม่ทิ้งวง Goon Moon ที่เขาอยู่หลังจาก NIN (Nine Inch Nails) และ A Perfect Circle ระหว่างที่ห่างไกลจาก Manson นั่นเอง แฟนเพลงคาดหวังจะได้ฟัง Anti-Christ style อีก แต่ Twiggy บอกว่าเมื่อก่อนเขายังเด็ก เขาเลยทำมัน

House of Heroes x Panic! At the Disco

Um duelo dos grandes. O House of Heroes surgiu no ultimo ano como uma das revelaçoes de 2008/2009, ganhando espaço e respeito no cenario do rock cristão com sua pegada bem indie alternativa e hits muitos loucos. Em contrapartida, seus rivais são é ninguem menos que o Panic! At The Disco que explodiu em 2005-2006 no auge da moda emo, onde mostrava ma persperctiva meio teatral-circense com letras ousadas sob um ritmo envolvente, como foi o caso do álbum A Fever You Can’t Swat Out, e no álbum seguinte Pretty Odd mantendo mais a linha do pop indie lembrando em muito os Beattles, algo também feito pelos caras do House of Heores que lançaram um EP com algumas versoes do grupo de Liverpool.

Um pouco do emo gritado, ou secreamo, se preferirem. Nesse embate, os suecos do Blindside e o vocal rasgado de Christian Lindskog contra o emo agressivo do The Used de Bert McCkraken. Sobre as bandas, uma sonoridade agressiva com guitarras distorcidas, tratando de dilemas e sofrimentos (bem típico da onda emo) e sem falar, claro, o visual retô com direito a franjas.

Sabe aquele tipo de musica que segue aquela cadencia lenta, meio deprê, meio cult, e que embora muitas vezes dá sono, mas quando paramos pra observá-la em geral, vemos quão grande é a sua qualidade? Pois bem, esse é o estilo aqui mostrado por duas grandes bandas: o Cool Hand Luke e o tão conhecido Radiohead. Os fãs do Radiohead já conhecem há tempos a qualidade da banda oriunda de Oxford com seu rock experimetal profundo, ao passo que o Cool Hand Luke pode parecer simplório de inicio, mas basta uma singela observação na musicalidade da banda que a destaca para um alto nível. Um dos pontos fortes do CHL são as letras, profundamente voltadas a mensagens fé cristã e louvando sobretudo Deus.

O que pode ser considerado emo à primeira vista, logo tem seu conceito mudado, como é o visual do 30 Seconds To Mars que tem por líder o ator Jared Leto, talvez por isso, o visual, mas musicalmente, o A Life Echoed tem um som silmilar aos atores, alem de ser um som mais positive enfocado nas tematicas da vida, ao contrario do que acontece na banda californaina falando mais de temas exitenciais. Enfim, grandes bandas, embora o Life Echoed nao seja muito conhecido do cenario gospel, ainda mais pra nós brazucas.

>> El Centro de Extensión Cultural Alfonso Lagos de la Universidad de Concepción y el Centro Cultural de España, tienen el agrado de invitar a la inauguración de la muestra “Esto no/es una exposición de género”. Esta exposición fue concebida a partir de temas, como el fomento a la equidad de género y la lucha contra la violencia hacia la mujer, en ella participan obras de diversos artistas en cuanto a edades y estilos. La muestra aspira a que las obras no sólo seduzcan visualmente sino que gatillen preguntas y cuestionamientos en quienes la visitan. La cita es este Jueves, 12 de noviembre desde las 19:30 Horas en el Centro de Extensión Cultural Alfonso Lagos de la Universidad de Concepción ubicada en Isabel Riquelme 479.

>> Panic At The Disco, se presentó ayer Martes, en Santiago. La banda liderada por Branden Urie entró a escena luego de que Don Nadie los teloneara, a eso de las 22 horas. Tocaron todas sus canciones conocidas como “But It’s Better If You Do”, “Time to Dance” (en la apertura), “I Write Sins Not Tragedies”, “Lying Is The Most…”, “Nine in the Afternoon” y canciones de su nuevo disco como “New Perspective” entre otras. El Show tuvo como comentario generalizado, de que PATD, es de las buenas nuevas bandas, tiene una propuesta en escena y, según el vocalista, apenas tengan material nuevo, volverán a nuestro país.

>> El próximo Domingo 22 de noviembre se llevará a cabo la novena versión del Día de la música chilena: más de 8 horas de artistas locales en vivo en el Elipse del Parque O’Higgins de Santiago.

Desde las 11 hrs, el día de la música chilena arranca con estos artistas confirmados. Ojo que la entrada es liberada. Tocarán en vivo: Chancho en Piedra, Sonora de Tommy Rey, Manuel García, Cata Palacios, Zaturno, The Ganjas, Gepe, Mawashi, Ana Tijoux, Camila Moreno, Saiko, De Saloon entre otros.

>> El supergrupo de Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters), Josh Homme (Queens Of The Stone Age) y John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin), Them-Crooked-Vultures, estrenó ayer su ópera prima homónima. El disco puede ser revisado en la cuenta de YouTube del trío y su edición en formato físico está fechada para el 16 de noviembre en el Reino Unido, mientras su salida en el mercado norteamericano ocurrirá el día después.

>> El bajista Billy Gould de Faith No More, manifestó desde Brasil, las ganas de la banda de volver para terminar acá su tour mundial de reunión, “The second coming”.

El propio músico sugirió preguntarle a su propia fanaticada si adhieren a la idea, cosa de sumar una fuerza suficiente para que haya una certificación de que pueden romperla acá una vez más.

La madrugada del martes se abrió la recolección de firmas, vía internet, a través del sitio www.humonegro.com, que participó de las conversaciones con Gould y también con el baterista Mike Bordin, constatando que ambos quedaron impresionados por la respuesta obtenida en nuestro país.

En menos de un día, el sitio ya tenía más de 3 mil “firmas” y a estas alturas ya superan los 5 mil. Con eso ya estaría un Teatro Caupolicán completo.

De concretarse el proyecto, Faith No More estaría de regreso acá el 2º semestre del 2010. Tienen fechas copadas hasta marzo y se alargarían en Estados Unidos, así que ése sería el momento.

FIRMA PARA QUE FAITH NO MORE CIERRE EL TOUR EN CHILE.

>> Guns N’ Roses, la mítica banda liderada por Axl Rose está a un paso de venir a nuestro país. Los promotores que manejan al conjunto ya tienen amarrado un tour latino que pasará por la región en febrero y marzo de 2010. Así también lo anunció el pasado sábado 7 el diario peruano “Perú 21”, afirmando que la agrupación aterrizará en febrero en Lima, en un recinto masivo, con capacidad para más de 40 mil personas.

En Chile, hoy son 3 las productoras que han lanzado ofertas para su regreso. Pese a los trámites, uno de los involucrados dice que es casi seguro su paso por la capital para marzo, aunque aún no se ha analizado el reducto que podría ser el Club Hipico.

I am Beth,  just a verbose girl with too much time on her hands and too much space on her Zune (which is better than an iPod in my opinion). I live and breath for music. I have three cats named Bellatrix, Tom, and Mini and two dogs named Kessie and Mikey. None of them have paid any atention to me since we got Bellatrix. I think they’re mad at me, but what can I say, Bella’s a sadistic bitch. Right now I have over 2,000 songs on my Zune and I’m always discovering more.  

Oh, and I’m gonna say this right of the bat, I do not like Ryan Ross. I have no problem with Panic! at the Disco or The Young Veins, I just don’t like Ryan Ross. Well, more like I don’t like the idea of him. I’m sure he’s a nice guy in person, but he annoys me. He’s eveywhere in bandom, and it’s overrated. He’s overrated. Turn around right now if your going to try to convince me otherwise.

Ontem foi muito traumatizante. Ler a cobertura do Panic At The Disco no Brasil e estar aqui tão longe. Ainda mais agora quando vi as fotos, os vídeos, o Setlist. Tudo que eu quero é que eles voltem o mais rápido possível pra cá e que façam um show em Porto Alegre.

BUT, mesmo estando hiper triste não tem como não comentar tudo, principalmente depois de ver as fotos do show e no aeroporto. Mesmo com toda a chuva que caiu ontem na Chácara do Jockey em São Paulo na hora do show, O Brendon estava lindo. Diferente da maioria das bandas, o Wardrobe dele é todo fino e tal. Usou no show um blazer muito bem cortado cinza, e até gravata, charme.

Aqui les dejo este video de panic at the disco, es un video un poco viejito. Para mi es un video raro pero me gusta, las personas salen con peceras en la cabeza para poder respirar eso se me hace muy curioso.

Os sintomas da depressão são muito variados, e eu estou sentindo todos eles pelo fato de saber que uma das melhores bandas que eu já tomei conhecimento na minha vida estão AQUI, estão no Brasil, e eu por morar no final do mundo não poderei estar lá presente, vendo o meu Urie.

É só pra me matar UM POUCO que eu fico vendo esses vídeos.. Gosto de sofrer.
