I rejoined the DaZZee team after about being out of the IT industry for about 8 years. It is amazing how much has changed. I have spent the last few months trying to get reacquainted with the many new things that we deal in. The most amazing things that I am seeing right now are involved with the virtualization of servers and desktops.

Hey all, sorry for the lack of posts this week and for not commenting on people’s blogs, it has been flat out at work with monthly reporting and at home as we are having some renovations done to the outside of the house before the baby arrives in Feb next year so there has been no time for photography this week.

This is a shot from Lake Burley Griffin looking east over the Carillion and out towards Russell and was taken just as the sun was rising. Without these clouds this shot would have been pretty lifeless so I was grateful that they decided to show up.

Starting to warm up here in Canberra, it hasn’t taken long for the green colours to be sucked out of the landscape, oh well I guess it was nice while it lasted and at least our dams are now over 50% full.

Well I went to see the animal doctor today to get me out of this pain.

And he gave me a shot of Rimadyl.

It is an anti-inflamatory/analgesic for dogs.

Oh it hurt when he put the shot in and I screamed in pain. And all i did was lick his eye!! He laughed….

But now its working, I’m at home and finally able to get some sleep.

I also have some doggie pills called Carprofen 100mg. I will start taking those tomorrow. 

They are the same as the shot, but my human can administer at home.

Vet wants to get an x-ray but he will have to put me out for that, not sure if that sounds like fun or not.

But I think the humans want to wait and see if this medicine helps any.

its possible that I have Panosteritis or osteoarthritis!

Pano would be the more likley though, its basically growing pains, and I AM a growing pup right now.

Panosteitis is a spontaneously occurring lameness that usually occurs in large breed dogs.  Affected dogs are usually in the 5 to 14 month age range and male dogs are more commonly infected than female dogs. The disease has been reported in dogs as young as 2 months and can occur in young mature dogs. The lameness tends to occur very suddenly, usually without a history of trauma or excessive exercise. In most cases one or the other front leg is affected first and then the problem tends to move around, making it appear that the lameness is shifting from leg to leg. There are often periods of improvement and worsening of the symptoms in a cyclic manner. This condition is self limiting, meaning that it will eventually go away, with or without treatment. Pain control can go a long way towards helping your pet feel more comfortable and should be used, though.

Osteoarthritis: are the same as they occur in the human body with arthritis, essentially, the “breakdown” of the (protective) cartilage that covers the ends of the bones at the joint. Sometimes, the tissues that line the joint may also be inflamed. Osteoarthritis however is associated with the growth of new bone around a moveable joint and the deterioration of the smooth cartilage that covers and protects the ends of the bones within it. In the more severe cases of osteoarthritis, the vet may suggest steroids or surgery, neither of which is risk-free.

Lets hope this passes soon.

I’m going to continue my nap now… while I can without the horrid pain! I’ve a few sleepless nights to catch up on!

 My family is the best family EVER, they are all taking such great care of me when I’m sick. I love them.

There’s an exciting new competition just been announced that I encourage all panoramic photographers to enter. It’s the International Photographic Pano Awards, open to both professional and amateur photographers. There is over US$10,000 in cash and prizes, from Lonely Planet, Apollo, Epson, PT Gui, and 360 Precision.

Here’s an explanation from their website:

“The inaugural 2010 International Pano Awards is dedicated to the art of panoramic photography. Advances in digital photography and software such as PTGui and Adobe Photoshop has resulted in an explosion in image stitching, especially in the panoramic format. Panoramic film photography also remains alive and well. The Pano Awards aims to showcase the work of panoramic photographers worldwide and be the largest and most important competition for panoramic photography.”

The judging panel includes some of the world’s top panoramic photographers, including Christian Fletcher, David Hugh Evans, Nick Rains, Jaspal Jandu, Peter Eastway, Christian Fleury, Glenn Beanland and yours truly.

Lake George is located about 20km’s north of Canberra, near Bungendore in NSW. I was out there chasing a storm over the Canberra Wind Farm (photo to come) a few weeks back and also managed to catch the last light hitting the surrounding hills. It was definitely a weird afternoon as directly to my left and behind me there was a huge storm front approaching which luckily held off until I was back in the car heading home. Mind you the drive home wasn’t that pleasant on the freeway, very slippery!

You may have asked yourself that it doesn’t look like a lake and in a way you would be right as Lake George has not had water in it for the best part of my life. I think that it would be cool if it was to fill up again but then again the consequences might not be great for the surrounding area.

This was only a quick processing job to get it on the blog so I might re-visit sometime to see if I can come up with something better.

Tried doing a different perspective on panoramas and i think they came out pretty cool.

These were taken at a back road near my house called highland valley which connects Rancho Bernardo/escondido to ramona

I think i went a little overboard with the color so it doesnt look natural. I will have to go back and fix that.

Otherwise here is the windansea picture i did last week but i messed with the color a bit

I really like this spot, but i think i will reshoot it with a tripod when we go to shoot for our printed ones. Also there were water spots on the camera, since it was sprinkling, and i think it hurts the image.

I have no idea how many photos this is. More than the last one!

Hey! Just wanted you to know that I’m still around! I haven’t left you all! I just am having a few technical difficulties which I promise to try to sort out as soon as I can!

This is another of those lovely waterfalls that Montagne d’Ambre is teaming with. I hope you enjoy.

Skies where pretty clear all day, I figured it would be a bust but I took may camera to work with me anyway. Around 6pm, I stuck my head out side and seen the start of what would be a fanstastic sunset. Featuring some Altocumulus clouds, the coloring started out faint but minute by minute, the colors and intensity started to peak. What a sunset!

Today’s image is a panorama of the river the runs under the Footbridge here in Hopewell. It’s made up of 12 images. I shot it from the center of the footbridge. The fall colours aren’t as intense as they were a few weeks ago, but they are still nice. I stitched the images together using the Photomerge Panorama maker in Photoshop.

You always want to shoot your panoramas in portrait orientation. This will give you far more pixels to play with when cropping the final image. End result is that since typically there is a lot to crop after stitching a pano, you have a taller image after cropping, meaning you have more options when printing. Also, meter the far edges and the center of the scene you want to shoot. Come to a compromise on exposure, and shoot on manual. You might get some over exposed areas and some under exposed areas, but these can be fixed after you stitch it together. If you shoot or an auto mode or semi auto mode you will get a different exposure for each frame and it will not look natural. Also, you want to focus in the same area of the frame each time. Make sure to have a good amount of over lap frame to frame. This will make sure you have plenty of room to work with. Ideally you will be shoot a pano with a tripod. It can also be done hand held, but typically you will need to do a lot of cropping after stitching.

This image was taken from Sausalito looking out toward Angel Island in the San Francisco Bay area.  Myself and Neal headed to the location about 30 minutes before first light which proved to be a good move as this is when I found the light to be at its best for this particular morning.  It was still dark so the city lights reflected nicely off the low lying cloud and light fog that was about.  We were also hoping for a spectacular sunrise but unfortunately the cloud was too heavy on the horizon.

Luck comes into play in a big way when you only have that one or two days to shoot a particular location. You can do as much research as you like, and have allllll the gear at hand, but having the weather do exactly what you want, when you want just isn’t going to happen.  I bet if Jesus was here today and into this whole photography thing he would capture some incredible images.

6 image stitch

Today when i went on my photo shoot with pham i was thinking about the project ahead and snapped a few photos to get content for my panoramic photo. I didnt use a tripod and just did a quick sweep across the beach to do a trial run. I think it came out pretty well, but if you get close you can see the areas where it didnt mesh well due to the constant motion of the waves and the clouds. I noticed the most around the horizon line.

i think i will do another trial run either with or without a tripod because this one was done candidly since the project wasnt assigned yet. Also, i noticed that there were water spots on the lense
