With docile hearts, then, let all Christians hearken to the voice of their Common Father, who would have them, each and every one, intimately united with him as they approach the altar of God, professing the same faith, obedient to the same law, sharing in the same Sacrifice with a single intention and one sole desire. This is a duty imposed, of course, by the honor due to God. But the needs of our day and age demand it as well. After a long and cruel war which has rent whole peoples asunder with it rivalry and slaughter, men of good will are spending themselves in the effort to find the best possible way to restore peace to the world. It is, notwithstanding, Our belief that no plan or initiative can offer better prospect of success than that fervent religious spirit and zeal by which Christians must be formed and guided; in this way their common and whole-hearted acceptance of the same truth, along with their united obedience and loyalty to their appointed pastors, while rendering to God the worship due to Him, makes of them one brotherhood: “for we, being many, are one body: all that partake of one bread.
“He who heareth my word, and believeth …hath life everlasting.” (John, 5, 24) This affirmation by Jesus, which we heard in the Gospel, makes us think of the hardest moments of the pontificate of Pius XII, when, perceiving the collapse of every human certainty, he strongly felt the need, even through a constant ascetic effort, to adhere to Christ, the only certainty that never passes. Benedict XVI on Pius XII: (Translation from Rorate Caeli)

Typically, on the fiftieth anniversary of his ordination, tells Father McAuliffe, Pope Pius celebrated “his jubilee Mass not as Pope, but as a simple priest. Clad in snow-white vestments, without pontifical regalia, he walked to the altar simply, humbly and devoutly, just as he had done fifty years previously in the little village church of Riese; the only difference now being that he was surrounded by four hundred bishops and over fifty thousand people.” (Really great article on the life of St. Pius X)

But every Lord’s day do ye gather yourselves together, and break bread, and give thanksgiving after having confessed your transgressions, that your sacrifice may be pure. But let no one that is at variance with his fellow come together with you, until they be reconciled, that your sacrifice may not be profaned. For this is that which was spoken by the Lord: In every place and time offer to me a pure sacrifice; for I am a great King, says the Lord, and my name is wonderful among the nations. (Didache: 1st Century).

NEW YORK, April 28, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The decision by several prominent pro-abortion politicians to publicly receive Holy Communion at papal Masses during the recent visit of Pope Benedict XVI, despite clear Church teaching that says that their reception of Communion would constitute a grave sacrilege, may have backfired.

While at first it seemed like it would be business as usual, today Cardinal Edward Egan of New York issued a statement condemning the reception of Holy Communion by former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

The Archdiocese informed LifeSiteNews.com that the issue is being brought forward publicly at this time “because it has become a public issue and a public question.”

“The Catholic Church clearly teaches that abortion is a grave offense against the will of God,” said Egan. “Throughout my years as Archbishop of New York, I have repeated this teaching in sermons, articles, addresses, and interviews without hesitation or compromise of any kind.”

He continued, “Thus it was that I had an understanding with Mr. Rudolph Giuliani, when I became Archbishop of New York and he was serving as Mayor of New York, that he was not to receive the Eucharist because of his well-known support of abortion.”

“I deeply regret that Mr. Giuliani received the Eucharist during the Papal visit here in New York,” said Egan, “and I will be seeking a meeting with him to insist that he abide by our understanding.”

Responding to the matter in the press, Giuliani said that his faith “is a deeply personal matter and should remain confidential.”

Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, responded, “The Catholic faith is not simply about one’s private and confidential relationship with God. It’s public, as evidenced by the fact that Mr. Giuliani received Communion in public. Mr. Giuliani’s support of legal abortion is also public. That’s why Cardinal Egan’s remarks are entirely appropriate, as is his expectation that Mr. Giuliani abide by those remarks.”

The Pope, just prior to his elevation to the pontificate, issued a document to the US Bishops which outlined that in keeping with Church teaching, pro-abortion politicians who present themselves for communion even after being warned not to “must” be denied communion.

LifeSiteNews.com asked Joseph Zwilling, Director Office of Communications at the Archdiocese of New York, if there had been any communication on the matter between the Pope or Vatican and the Archdiocese. Zwilling replied, “No

Pope Benedict XVI was 100 percent correct when he recently stood up for the sanctity of every human

Pope Benedict XVI was 100 percent correct when he recently stood up for the sanctity of every human life, born and unborn, during the Papal Mass at Yankee Stadium. Any society that can cavalierly destroy God’s precious gift is contrary to our nature, and as such, a society that fails to respect human life is a sick society.

Fortunately, the strength of America’s pro-life movement, as evidenced by the spontaneous applause Benedict received at Yankee Stadium after defending the unborn as well as the success of pro-life candidates at the national level, gives me hope that all is not lost for our country. That said, much work needs to be done. Western Civilization is ill in terms of respecting life.

At a time when western civilization devalues life, this act of cruelty exhibited by Guillermo Vargas in his now-infamous “art” exhibit is hardly surprising. In fact, it is symptomatic of a sick culture. For those of you unfamiliar with what this scumbag did, Vargas tethered a dog, Natividad, to a wall and starved it to death while a bunch of voyeuristic freaks oohed and aahed. Nicaraguan authorities, rather than being outraged, classified the cruelty as “art.”

Indefensible acts are often described as art. In this sense, Vargas’ cruelty is nothing new. However, this is an example that some in the art world are regressing from offensive to evil. When hearing about incidents like this one, I am outraged, but I’m also glad that we have had popes like John Paul II and Benedict XVI. In fact, I’m hopeful that they arrived just in the nick of time.

The New York leg of the trip was superb. Every local station in NYC showed the Mass. Our Lord Jesus Christ on every channel. His Vicar was there to present His legitimate doctrine to the people. No man cometh to the Father, but by me. Millions heard the Truth, and saw the Church in Her Dignity via Her Liturgy . Great Day!

Pope Paul VI arrives for 1965 Mass at Yankee Stadium.

When Pope Benedict XVI celebrates Mass at Yankee Stadium on Sunday, it will be the third papal Mass in the venerable baseball cathedral, a record for any single venue in the United States.

On October 4, 1965, Pope Paul VI said Mass in front of more than 90,000 people at Yankee Stadium. Fourteen years later, on October 2, 1979, Pope John Paul II delivered Mass in the Bronx. Plaques honoring each occasion are located in the Stadium’s Monument Park.

Known mostly for baseball, Yankee Stadium has hosted many other famous sporting events, including Notre Dame-Army football, the New York football Giants, one Gotham Bowl, and boxing matches featuring Joe Louis, Sugar Ray Robinson and Muhammad Ali. The Isley Brothers, U2, Billy Joel and Pink Floyd are on the short list of performers who played Yankee Stadium.

A Jehovah’s Witness Convention attracted 123,707 people in 1950. The Stadium also hosted “A Prayer for America” in September of 2001 to honor the victims and heroes of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
