The KK’s are the most recent CELEBRITY endorsers for the Say No to H8 campaign in favor of SAME sex marriages in California.

What can I say about Lady GaGa? She is an artist. A true original. And it takes a lot for me to admit that about someone. Being an upcoming singer and songwriter myself, everyone that comes up is potential competition, and I should be rightly afraid of Lady GaGa. She has fought her way into the charts and into my heart, and she deserves every bit of success she gets.

When I was browsing the web last year, I came across a music video for “Just Dance” by a random blonde singer I’d never heard of. “What is this? Who is going to like this?” I thought to myself watching the video halfway before turning it off and rolling my eyes. As far as I knew, Lady GaGa was another manufactured pop mess that would die out soon enough.

Wrong.

Digging deeper into Lady GaGa’s biography, I learned that she is an accomplished self-taught pianist, songwriter, and singer, just like me. She came from nothing to show the world what she is made of and she is already living the dream I hope to accomplish soon myself. With that said, I’ve since become a huge fan who has already blown hundreds of dollars on GaGa merchandise and concert tickets. I am gladly feeding her fame. I cannot wait to see her in December. Until then, we have The Fame Mons†er to tide us over.

Bad Romance – The lead single and an eerie swirling anthem that makes you want to murder someone and make out with their corpse. It bursts with energy and raw emotion at the chorus and it’s more subdued stomping verses take you on a ride through GaGa’s twisted unconditional love for a best friend she can never be with. Rating: A+

Alejandro – I don’t really understand GaGa’s fake Spanish accent in the intro or her inspiration for this song. A Spanish ex-boyfriend? This song is obviously the “stay away from me I don’t want you” song. The chorus makes me think of cheering at a bullfight, its another chant-along chorus that makes you want to get up and twirl around in circles, something GaGa has mastered. Not the best song, not the worst. I wouldn’t make too much of a fuss over it but fans are in love with it. Rating: B

Monster – Back on track after Alejandro with a catchier more single-worthy song. I appreciate that the songs on this album are danceable but mid-tempo, not too fast and not too slow. I love the references to her Fame album, the “ma ma ma ma”s in the chorus and a line referencing Just Dance. It sounds like a mid 80s underground goth synth hit and that is a style I’m more than comfortable with. GaGa continues her “he ate my heart” theme crossing it over from the video interludes during her shows to this song. I can only imagine how cool a video for this song would be. Rating: A

Speechless – A track that was majorly hyped up after we all heard the news that GaGa wrote it for her dad when he refused to get healthy concerning his heart problems (don’t worry, he’s ok now). Its a mid-tempo ballad with guitars and strings that sounds like a song from Aerosmith’s 90s “Crazy” period. Nothing like anything else on TFM, and its a welcome change. The lyrics are from GaGa’s mother’s point of view as a kind of love letter to her husband (GaGa’s father). It does not live up to the hype of it being one of her best, if not her best song. Maybe her most personal but not her best. Rating: B

Dance In The Dark – Now THIS, is GaGa’s defining moment in my eyes. This, is what I consider her best song. Surpassing Paparazzi and even Bad Romance for me, as much as I “love, love, love” Bad Romance. Its a song where everything simply falls into place and makes you warm inside. It could be the gated 80s drums, the bouncing bubbly synth, or her voice itself, but its probably all of those things together. The stuttering edited background vocals add another layer of glitter to the pumping anthem. I could listen to it on repeat at least 10 times a day, and if I don’t stop it now, I may not get to the rest of the review. Rating: A+

Telephone (featuring Beyonce) – This song is going to take a long time to win my love. Its a standard dance tune with a predictable melody that Brooke Hogan could have recorded, and possibly done a better job of. I already have a favorite phone inspired song, and Its Kylie Minogue’s Speakerphone. Unfortunately, this is GaGa’s next single, as far as what’s been reported. It better have a damn good video on par with Bad Romance. If it doesn’t, it’ll continue not getting my attention. As far as she’s come creatively, I don’t see why GaGa has taken two steps back to do a standard modern pop song. If it was at the expense of featuring Beyonce, it wasn’t worth it. Rating: C-

So Happy I Could Die – A slower song that is really beautiful in a way. It is dance pop as usual, but slower and more adult somehow, matured. The lyrics aren’t anything you’d typically hear in a dance song. With GaGa, nothing is typical anyway, is it? I’m not sure exactly what its about but I think its just about living the moment on the dance floor. Which tends to get boring after a while but the “let go and dance” genre is kept alive in this song. Its also about self love with lyrics about looking at herself in the mirror and regaining confidence by touching herself to make everything alright again. Its simple but it’s message gets across. Rating: A

Teeth – The song starts with a disturbing looped chant that sounds like something out of the Iraq flashback scenes in The Exorcist. GaGa beckons a boy to take a bite of her “bad girl meat”. The lyrics in this song are embarrassing and raunchy for the sake of being raunchy. Simple can work, but this song is too simple. All I get from this song is the image of a disgusting dimly lit run down bar deep in rural Mexico with a sickly stripper rolling around on stage begging for attention. If this song was meant to be sexy, she is pretty far off the mark. To say I hate this song is too extreme. To say I like it is being generous. Rating: D

Overall rating: 9/10

GaGa’s second “body of work” as she calls it, is indeed it’s own entity, and most of it is incredibly catchy and memorable. Other parts drag on and make you wish a couple of the boring songs *cough*Telephone, Teeth*cough* had been replaced with better tracks. Fellow fans may argue that the album is completely perfect, but it isn’t.

Luckily, the minor imperfections are drowned out by the standout tracks and the overall theme of the “album”. 8 tracks would have passed for an album in 1975 but we need a little more these days. This is only my opinion, but she could have done without this being called The Fame Mons†er, and simply titled it Mons†er, a double disc set with 10 songs, 5 on each disc. This album isn’t even connected to The Fame, admitted by GaGa herself.

She says she wouldn’t remove or add a single track but I think that’s her inner self proclaimed genius speaking. Every once in a while it wouldn’t hurt her to allow someone to guide her in the right direction in terms of picking the best songs for an album.

With all of that said, it’s fun and catchy and worthy of singing and dancing along to. Its perfectly GaGa and the monster theme is a welcome change in creativity from the usual female popstar image.

I would review the Bad Romance video but that would take up an entire day. All I can say is that the video blew me away and opened up my eyes to a whole new world of visual art. it is spectacular. If you want to buy and listen to The Fame Mons†er for yourself, be sure to watch the Bad Romance video too! This review is based on opinion but hopefully its given you an overview of what you can expect. Do I recommend buying it? Yes! If not, at least download it illegally! It is worth hearing some way or another! Love Nico

HOLY HELL!  New Moon Mania is now in full force, people!  The premiere was tonight in Westwood, CA and a billion trillion fans and celebrities were there.  I caught a little bit of the livefeed on the red carpet.  Anya Marina (from the soundtrack) was doing the red carpet coverage, and she’s an idiot.  Her voice was annoying and she spent a LOT of time talking about herself.  Twitter was much more entertaining, especially with the LTR girls there.  Pretty much everyone looked beautiful, even Rob!  Surprised?  No, no, of course not.

Kristen was… well, she was gorgeous.  Her dress was amazing, take a look, I picked the extra big size for you:

I think I’m in love!  I can’t wait to see her tonight on Conan O’Brien, word from the east coast Twitterers is she did a good job.  It’s so cool to see the difference between Kristen now and Kristen one year ago.  LOVE. I'm sorry!

So currently there is a show on my television right now called “Love Bites.”  It’s on MTV.  Basically, the entire premise of this half-hour show is debating whether or not Rob and Kristen are dating.  GROSS!  Why, MTV, WHY?!?!  You guys suck.  One minute you’re talking about the media invading their lives, the next minute you’re interviewing some a-hole paparazzi who swears he saw them making out or something.  Nice life MTV.  I hate you.  Changing the channel now.  I guess I can endure a few minutes of Jay Leno to see what’s going on with Mr. Taylor Lautner tonight.

We also have this.  People Magazine just named Rob the sexiest man alive.  Well, maybe.  That’s the word on the internet street, at least, but I couldn’t find anything official.  Sooo…. congratulations?  I guess?  Who cares.  I guess it’s kind of a big deal since that title usually goes to older men… nope, still don’t care.

Fact or Fake?

Ooh!  Taylor’s on!  He looks the same every day.  Girls are screaming.  He brought his grandma.  Awww… and now they’re showing an embarrassing clip from his past.  He hung out with old people in Vancouver to escape the crazy fans.  His laugh makes me cringe.  It’s kind of nerdy.  Sorry.  Oh crap!  Now they’re showing an exclusive clip from the movie!  I getter get out of here!  That’s it for tonight, I hope you all enjoy your week!  Thanks for reading!

PPS:  I saw the movie “Pirate Radio” yesterday.  It was awesome.  So fun and funny.  It stars a young actor named Tom Sturridge, who just happens to be a good friend of Rob.  After all this New Moon business dies down, I will discuss my theories on how these two friends (along with 3-4 other young British boys) are either a) clones or b) robots.  Stay tuned.

PPPS:  THREE MORE DAYS!!!  WEEEEEEE!!!!  Okay, now I really gots to go, we’re having a huge windstorm here in Seattle and my power is going to go out any second!  Yipes!

Cuando me enteré de la existencia de Gabourey Sidibe (este hermoso ángel que ven en la foto), supe lo que es el amor a primera vista, es decir, estoy seguro que a más de uno de ustedes le aparecieron lágrimas en los ojos al observar a Gaby en todo su esplendor, porque su belleza es tan impactante que te deja sin aliento. i love this video. i love that this video is older than i am and a hundred times more brilliant. seriously, such innovation for an 80’s music video.

and gaga. oh, gaga. this video is beautifully shot and her clothes are to die for, and i love how she satirizes the relationship between media and celebrity. go, girl.
